This was actually a plot point in Mass Effect. The Asari live for a thousand years and due to their psychic nature and weird monogender biology are compatible with all forms of sentient life. Due to their incredibly long life spans the whole "til death do us part" permanency of marriage that other species practice isn't really a thing in their culture, as they almost inevitably drift apart apart over the centuries or move on.

The closest analogue they have is an idolization of lovers who died while they were still together, which they heavily romanticize and will pine after even centuries after they are gone. Because of this, relationships with other species are prized because the 100 years or fewer they have together is long enough to form a connection but not long enough to drift apart, so when the partner inevitably dies they can romanticize what might have been had they been given more time.

It's like all the bands that had breakout releases but prematurely split up at the height of their fame, so they went out at the peak of their parabola instead of the downward slope. It's the difference between Nirvana and the Goo Goo Dolls.

The 'Elven Romance' story is a little rough on the dialogue, but it's still sweet - very good for something written in a thread, and I have a fondness for the picture.

I'd be a little concerned for his motives, especially if he seemed to be born and raised among drow deep in the caves - who's to say if they're beyond seducing slaves instead of capturing them?
