>Think of an idea for something relating to a campaign
>Premise, character, whatever
>Go out of your way to come up with something thought out that makes sense for the context of the game
>Present the idea to someone for their thoughts
>"So basically it's [Insert established media/character/thing here]"
>That's all they say

And? That happens to everyone, it's why made/saw/played threads are a thing.

>try to change things up in what you think is going to be a relatively repetitive game
>toss in some sci-fi elements in a contemporary fantasy game
>try your best to spook players with some creepy monsters
>after the game everyone had fun
>except one player
>he hated it and wants to sit out for the rest of the arc
welcome to the modern era of entertainment where everything has been done and no good original ideas can exist, part of why there are so many reboots/sequels now days

I feel like I should know this anime girl, even though she's very generic-looking

The last true original idea was the space opera, and thats since been done to death.
There is no "Final frontier" so far as media goes anymore. Its now about what you do with whats available.
>>53719703
this is why all may campaign ideas start with
>it's like X mixed with Y
originality is overrated anyway, specially on RPGs. Best villain I ever had was just copying sarevok from bg 1.

That's pretty much right. The "originality doesn't exist thing" is kind of a meme. Sure everything's been done before, but at least you can do your own take on an existing concept and it will still be relatively unique.

What is the absolute worst is people who think they're clever or knowledgeable by drawing comparisons.
OH SO YOUR IDEA IS BASICALLY X AND Y.
Yeah thanks for the insight, fuck off.

Kirie from Himouto Umaru-chan I think.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's her now. Thanks anon, that was bugging me this whole time.
