Yes. This is why it is offensive. It inherently lumps people together by the simple merit of their skin. It creates a homogeneous group out of what shouldn't be.

It also harkens back to the days of "Colored People" and will dredge up thoughts of colored only restrooms, drinking fountains and such.

There are a lot of people, of all ethnicity, who hate the term. I have met black people who would much rather be called anything else because at least a racial slur is honest, instead of a backhanded attempt to hide what is, ultimately, a racist term.
