Alright, so the campaign was set in a city run by amoral Wizards, and so was off the bat pretty crazy. For the holidays, our GM wrote up a fun Christmastime Adventure, in which an elf escaped the horrors of Santa's workshop and showed up at our bar, enlisting the party in an attempt to lead a glorious revolution against Santa's regime. We infiltrated the north pole, fought all of the Reindeer (Each one being a different kind of absurd pun based boss. Rudolf was the Reigndeer, who had innate magic and powers. Dancer was the Refraindeer, who could bardic inspiration others. Prancer was the Slaindeer, who was a zombie. And Blitzen was the Traindeer, and was a goddamn train.)
Eventually we confronted Santa, only to find that he was too strong, as he was a Paladin of himself, and had the powers of Smite Naughty, which our relatively morally flexible party was not equipped for. We traveled out into the wintery wastes of the pole to find the source of Santa's power and convince it that he had fallen from his duty, and eventually found that the Claus line was a hereditary one, and that there must always be a Santa Claus. That was when the DM brought forth a piece of brilliant work. Through a massive set of proving trials, we learned that the only member of the party without a written family history, the Elephant, was in fact a member of the Claus line, and was suitable to usurp Santa and free the north pole.

So we jacked the sled and had a massive battle with Santa on a sled going at 200mph across the night sky, wherein we convinced the powers of Nice that he had fallen, and then kicked him into the ocean.

It was a good game.

I always wanted to DM an Armello campaign. In fact, I have already the players willing me to make it happen. And there is just one true furry among them. The real problem is that I don't know how is the good way to catch the feel of these kind of settings. How much violence is too much violence? When it is too serious, or too light hearthed? And, more importantly, how do I avoid the players becoming murdering machines in the disguise or a cute bunny morph?

But, anyways, Armello has a kind of darkness which doesn't look too gritty or too dark. Most of the old tales we were told in our childhood, in fact, are pretty dark in a vacuum. The Big Bad Wolf has eaten Little Red Riding Hood's granmother and was wearing a disguise with her clothes in order to devour her grand-daugther too. But it doesn't feel so bad or hardcore, while a Kaos cultist could do the same and sound edgy. This is the point I am trying to achieve. Maybe keeping it as cartoon violence until the dramatical death takes place "offscreen" (I describe the killing move, not how your head falls from their shoulders).

If not, look at it as a way to balance things. Because a group of players who comes from D&D will surely RIP AND TEAR everything which pings "bad" and won't doubt of taking bloody SWATS operations of degutting people on their sleep.

BTW, yes, political intriges would be the main game. Maybe I would do like Might and Magic 7 and make them start as the co-owners of a feud in the middle of the contested lands of each clans, which, of course, putted them there as owners so there is at least one representative allied to them when "favors" are asked.

My GM loves in-setting racism and anyone who isn't part of the majority race of whatever town they're in will get anywhere from mildly heckled to treatment like what you had, even if it's just an elf in a human town or human around dwarves.
