Since the dawn of time, the armies of Heaven and Hell Have waged an endless war. Drawn to the conflict was the Charred Council, an entity bound by ancient laws to preserve order and balance. It held that any great power, unchecked, threatened the very fabric of the universe. In time, Heaven and Hell came to honour the Council and its laws, for none were beyond the swift and terrible justice of the Council's enforcers - a fearsome brotherhood known as the Four Horsemen.

Amid the turmoil, the first humans emerged. The Council foretold that these weak, but cunning creatures would someday be integral to the Balance. Thus a third kingdom was named - the Kingdom of Man. By order of the Council, a truce was forged between Heaven and Hell. The great pact was bound by Seven Seals, to be broken at the appointed time - when Man's kingdom stood ready for the Endwar - a battle that would bring balance, and determine the ultimate fate of the three kingdoms.

But the Third Kingdom was betrayed. The Endwar was begun before the Seven Seals were broken and humanity, still ill-prepared for the Apocalypse, was obliterated. In the ensuing conflict it was Hell that ultimately triumphed over Heaven, some say thanks to the direct intervention of the Horseman War. Now the Earth is the Destroyer’s Kingdom and home to the demons of hell, monstrous creatures of the Abyss, and other, stranger beings. Heaven’s army, the Hellguard, who were exiled from the White City for their part in the Endwar, continue their doomed crusade, hoping that the last of the White City’s shame might die with them. And, in the ruins of the Earth, the last, desperate humans cling to survival on the periphery, knowing that Man will not see out another century.

The Apocalypse touches the realms far beyond earth: The Kingdom of the Dead is overrun by billions of lost souls but suffers under a ruler who cares little for his subjects; The Forge Lands teeter on the brink of destruction, threatened by the engulfing power of the Abyss beyond and unholy Corruption within; and from the Shadows ancient beasts and mad lords emerge to exploit the chaos. At the centre of creation The Charred Council sees all; it still sends forth its most fearsome agents to find those responsible for destroying the Balance and punish them, be they Sons of Man, Lords of Heaven, or the Dregs of Hell. Perhaps the Horseman still stand with them, perhaps they do not. Few would dare ask, even if they knew where to find them...

Campaign ideas and plot hooks. Could use some work.
>Set after The End War
>Other Humans survived The End War like The Hunter, others could have made deals with different Demons (including Vulgrim, Samiel or the Chosen), Angels (like Uriel), or one of the many Old Ones (like Ostegoth or Ulthane), allowing Heroic Human characters.
>All the Horsemen appeared during the end war and were accused of starting it early. Stay have since gone on the run to prove their innocence and may have even split up to cover more leads / make harder to track.

The Charred Council are recruiting capable and power warriors from across the realms, Angel, Demon, Old One, Undead.
>Hunt down the traitorous Horsemen.
>Find this mysterious Destroyer, determine how it was able to turn the Horsemen against the balance and lead the hordes of the Abyss to crush the armies of the White City.
>Patrol Earth, stop the depredations of the Demons and unceasing fury of the Angels, find any surviving Humans and protect what's left of the Third kingdom.

List of known realms:
>The First Kingdom: Heaven, including the outpost of Lostlight.
>The Second Kingdom: Hell, including the outpost Shadow's Edge.
>The Third Kingdom: Earth.
>The Veil, realm of the Crowfather.

>The Kingdom of the Dead, realm of the Dead Lords who shepherd the deceased to be cleansed of their past lives so that they may return to the Well of Souls, also home to a variety of Undead. (may include Argul's Tomb, but it greatly resembles Crowfather's Veil)
>The River Styx, A place existing between the Three Kingdoms, the Styx is a river filled with wrathful souls that became lost rather than making it to the Well of Souls and thus to the Kingdom of the Dead.
>The Charred Council's Realm, from this unknown place the Charred Council uphold the balance and send their enforcers to carry out their will.

Dead worlds:

Know methods of traversing the worlds:
>The Tree of Life/Death (exists in every realm except for earth)
>Serpent Holes, can potentially connect to every realm, requires powerful entity to manifest them (Vulgrim, Azrael, Samael, Crowfather, Archon Lucien, The Charred Council)

The Makers of the Forge Lands
POWER
2 (1d8)
COHESION
2
FEATURES
The remaining Makers in the Forge Lands, based out of Tri-Stone. They hold back the tide of Corruption consuming their world but only just. They used to create worlds and wonders, but now their Constructs and artifacts are being turned against them. They seek to repower their forge so that they retake their world.
PROBLEMS
Corruption tainting the land (3). Once mighty Constructs and allies have either been corrupted or gone rogue (2). The Fire and Tears of the mountain have ceased flowing to The Forge (1). The Foundry where the Heartstones for Constructs are kept has been cut off (1). Horrible monsters still roam the lands between settlements (1)
TROUBLE
8
DOMINION
8
GOAL
Purge the Corruption from the Forge Lands.
>>
>>53677369
You need to scale back the Troubles a bit or scale up the power - "If the Trouble score ever equals the faction's maximum action die roll, the faction will collapse from its many problems." Why not have it so that Corruption has taken or is just about to take one of the major areas? The Drenchfort was the first one to be taken from them and then shut down, but there was clearly enough time and resources afterwards for them to make the Guardian.

If its any help, I rewatched the Maker cutscenes again and worked out a rough timeline with my best guesses for when things happened.

>Maker Ulthane is approached by the Angels
>Ulthane makes the Armageddon blade and then reforges six of the Seven Seals
>Apocalypse. Maker constructs like the Guardians summoned to fight for one side or the other. Possibly some Makers go with them.
>Abbadon captured. Angels lose.
>Ulthane exiles himself to Earth for his part in the debacle by using the Tree of Life.
>Corruption a growing problem. Unknown if existed pre-Apocalypse.
>More Makers follow Ulthane's example and leave. Others are overtaken by Corruption.
>Drenchfort lost to Corruption. Tears of the Mountain shut down. Way to Drenchfort barred in the hopes Corruption cannot spread. This fails.
>More Makers and Constructs die or become Corrupted.
>Way to the Tree of Life blocked by Corruption. Trapped, desperate Makers more likely to fall and attempts to break blockade end in disaster.
>Work on The Guardian begins. Three Makers need to give their lives to make Heartstones for the Guardian. One turns out to be corrupted.
>Cauldron Corrupted.
>Work on Guardian abandoned. Foundry abandoned.
>Retreat to Tristone, all other settlements in the forest abandoned.
>Vulgrim sets up shop / starts looting?
>Makers dwindle in number to six you meet in DS2
>Death arrives. Events of Darksiders 2.
>Main events of Darksiders 1.
.
We know that DS1 happens 100 years after the apocalypse, so the timeline has to fit that.
>>

Also, if we want normal humans who remember the Apocalypse even vaguely that means it has to be somewhere in the first fifty years after. More like twenty to thirty given the way that the Demon Lord Belial fits into DS2 and how old the human in that seemed. The Charred Council lets War out exactly a century after he gets splatted by Straga the first time, by which time humans are definitively toast.

In the prequel comic Darksiders II: Death's Door, Death fought an angel in Marseilles, France in 1722. The Angel wielded the crossblade war would later find (The cathedral they fight in possibly becoming the twilight cathedral post-apocalypse) and she is tainted by corruption and is spreading among humans before death stops her.

Right, but there's clearly a point not long after the Apocalypse where Corruption hadn't completely taken over Forge Lands because Karn talks about how the Drenchfort was lost first and Thane (and others) escaped using the Tree of Life.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SnHl_e1-SQ&feature=youtu.be&t=25m50s

Its quite possible that Corruption was always there, but it certainly appears that its only gone bananas after the Makers were weakened by the Apocalypse and all but one of their Guardians get tithed to the fight. Something similar appears to have happened with the other three realms - Lostlight falls because the Archon goes bonkers when he realises what he's done, Shadow's Edge falls because Samael isn't there to hold his realm together, and it sets into the Dead Kingdoms because the lord of Bones doesn't care enough about his subjects to try and stem the tide.

Can't say I'm interested in Darksiders, but as someone with extensive experience running and playing Godbound, I wish you the best of luck, because that system is a true clusterfuck.
>>
>>53679941
Any specifics on the clusterfuckery?
