Maybe try a super-light game like Risus and just spring it on people when you've got a group hanging out and trying to figure out what to do. Have pre-prepared characters and an adventure ready, so you can hit the ground running and be playing within 10 minutes of suggesting the game.

I'd probably advise finding a pre-established group anon, especially if you're new. Unless you want to GM, in which case, look for players looking for a GM, there always are.

In my experience it's mostly having friends in the hobby and getting lucky with the timing of a new group being started. Either one of your friends or a friend of a friend starts a game and you ask or are invited to join.

Guess I can't really explain how to make it work from scratch.

You start GMing, and force anyone that you can find to play with you. You're going to have to do most of the work.

People have zero fucking attention span. If you want to make it work, you need to make it the most fun goddamn thing that they've ever done in their lives. Most people are also retarded, and terrified of math for some reason, so don't make them do any of that. Then, as you play more drip feed them mechanics, until they too become full on grognards.
