So, /swg/, I came a shocking realization a couple days ago.
>Luke Skywalker is the son of Anakin Skywalker and Queen Padme Amidala of Naboo
>Anakin Skywalker was immaculately conceived due to Palpatine fucking around with the force
>In a sense, he is Anakin's father.
>Therefore, Luke is a Jedi and the son of a Queen, and the grandson of Palpatine

They went in, they shot the shit, they emptied their pockets onto the floor, they wrote the most appalling goddamn graffiti, they hid tampons behind the toilets. Namefagging on this post because why not.
I worked as a laborer at a local plumbing company for a while, did some HVAC too, but whatever. Nearly every single goddamn time a house's sewers back up it's fucking tampons. probably 8 times out of every 10, maybe more often than that.
Rule of thumb was that if you pulled up to a house and you could tell a woman lived there, you could tell her or whoever answered the door that it was tampons before you even start snaking the sewer. I heard from coworkers that they've actually snaked out fucking fetuses and shit. It's even worse when that shit happened at one of the local high schools. Similar shit NEVER happens to men who live without women or in the men's rooms of the schools, it's night and day.

Anyone good with Saga Edition willing to give me some advice?
I'm joining a game, we're going to be unaligned spacers during the Rebellion Era, no Jedi Class but Force Sensitives are allowed.

I'm planning on building a Force Sensitive Scoundrel, the GM already approved ties to the Blazing Chain so I'm planning on starting with Force Sensitivity, Force Training and Force Directed Shot. I'm probably going to stick to more misdirection and manipulation with my force powers. Mostly mind tricks and hazes, maybe one or two grip.
Beyond that I'm considering picking up Force Pilot and Rapid Shot.

Otherwise I have no idea where else to build toward, I'm not a fan of most of the Scoundrel talents otherwise. Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Sup /swg/, I need advice.

I am debating taking out 2 ships from my First Order Crackswarm to put in an ace, but I'm not sure what to add in.

I have a couple of options, would you be able to help me figure out what ace fits my needs best in the current (or before euro results, I have no idea what was up with that leebo+miranda build)

So I've got 3 Omega Squadron Pilot with Weapons Guidance and Crack Shot- that's 60 points, leaving 40 for an ace. What do you think about these options?

- Rexler Brath with TIE/x7, Mk2 engines, and Expertise

- Colonel Vessery with TIE/D, Expertise, and a Tractor Beam

- Whisper with ACD, FCS, VI, and Intel Agent

- Vader with Prockets, Engine Upgrade, ATC, and Lone Wolf/Predator/Juke.

- Some sort of Fat Quickdraw, likely Predator+Advanced Sensors+LWF+Sensor Cluster

So what do you guys think?

Also, man do I wish Pulsed Ray Shielding wasn't Rebel/scum only- That shit would be great for Empire.

Plumbing's got some perks, like I've never known a poor plumber. They get the cash and earn every cent of it too.

I had a school holiday job to make some cash working for a friend of the family, really early computer networking for this doctor that wanted a LAN in his office

During the early days of the Afghan war, we where running around down in Kandahar and had kicked the Tally's out of the area, there was this huge fortress the Soviets had built on a hillock. Underneath though it was successive eras of English forts, local warlords forts and probably all the way back to when Alexander was last there. That was full of tiny little 5ft high tunnels stashed with guns, explosives and all manner of shit- sort of like archaeology for people with guns.

The locals wouldn't go near it because they reckoned it was haunted because the Soviets used to drag people into it and torture them to death by the dozens.

Haunted? Because of a little thing like that? Pshaw. If that's all it took to haunt somewhere, 95% of Russia and Eastern Europe by land area should be haunted wasteland driving everyone who dwells there into utter insanity or complete sociopathy. ....Which would explain a lot, actually.

Ah its an ancient place (literally and figuratively) with a lot of bloodshed and superstitions there. More than likely they've already done it. I know the yanks set up shop there for a while and maybe the brits as well after we left.
It was a real graveyard of old soviet shit like T34-85s, ZSU's and BM-21's- all literally stripped down to just a rusty chassis, anything useful like wheels, tyres, copper or engines was looted out of them and carried off long ago. But a real treat to look at as they where mostly things we'd only really read about in books.

In the continuing story of the "Accidentally Kidnapped Luke Skywalker" group:

Last session, the party stole a Star Destroyer with the aid of an ancient droid army. The bounty hunter revealed he was a blood relative of the Emperor and therefore had a claim to the throne. He more-or-less got some of the crew behind him, and sent many messages inciting rebellion to other Imperial ships.

The party discovered fragments of plans for "Project Bastion" (Death Star II) in the S.D's archives and, being good rebels, transmitted them to /everyone/.

Needless to say, Vader and co were pissed, and not the least because the party had programmed all of their surplus battle droids left behind at the fuel depot to sing "Happy Birthday to Darth Vader" in cheap tinny voices. The Empire tracked down the stolen S.D in less than a day.

But the party, while frantically removing tracking devices, wisely parked the ship way too close to a star. The Empire's fleet dropped out of hyperspace... and into a mess of a fight. Outnumbered 8 to 1, the PCs tried to flee, but their ship was hit by an ion cannon shot and partially disabled. Then, the boarding started. With the newly converted Imperial troops turning on them, and Vader personally leading the charge, they knew they were fucked.

The battle was long and bloody. Evil Leia (turned by Darth Vader after Hoth) got into a lightsaber duel with the twi'lek pilot. It went surprisingly well for them both, thanks to their willingness to tap into the Dark Side. The twi'lek isn't exactly... morally upright. Oh, she likes people, but she also gets really angry.

Anyway, the duel more or less ended in a force explosion stalemate, giving them both a chance to escape. Meanwhile, Luke was fighting (and losing) to Vader, but defiantly refusing to give in and join the evil ex-Jedi. The bounty hunter tried to help by locking doors, throwing grenades, and shooting a lot, but Vader was strong in the Force and in the plot armor, and kept marching on.
>>
>>53623428
Anyway, the party managed to escape with most of their Rebel cell + a few Imperial officers + 2 battle droids (of the thousands they left behind), on their incredibly shitty ship, the Wanda.

But before they escaped, in the last few moments, Darth Vader cut Luke in half with a thrown lightsaber. Defiant, but so fucking dumb, to the last, the farmboy adventurer died on the Wanda's rusty ramp. Thus ends the Jedi...

Unless the force ghost of Obi-Wan can convince a very, very reluctant twi'lek to take up the cause.

Good luck, old man.

Intentional, more or less. The PCs more or less left Luke to his own devices even after realizing he was a kind of dim farmboy with a laser sword and not some all-conquering jedi general.

Besides, Vader has his second-in-command and successor now. She's politically savvy. She's well educated. She can be trained without endless whining.

Now all Vader needs to do is kill or convert the pretender to the Imperial throne and his path to seize power himself is clear.

They can probably go even further. If Trioculus and his buddies exist in your campaign, they'd probably be very interested in the news that Vader and his Jedi princess plan on usurping Papa Sheev (assuming the party knows about the usurpation plan). If the party plays its cards right, maybe it could even spiral into an early Imperial Civil War.

Oh, it's already Civil War time. Vader has all but declared the Grand Imperial Armada he built (to track down and kill Skywalker, you see) is beyond the Emperor's control. Right now there's no overt conflict, but the Death Star II is online ahead of schedule. Sheev's just waiting for Vader to make a stupid move... like marrying his daughter to a pretender to the throne. Right now, neither side is in position to crush the other, but it will happen soon enough.

I don't think Trioculus exists though. Despite the memery, it'd be a little... silly.

You're probably not wrong, but I've been trying to stick to "only the OT is canon, and we'll make the rest up as we go along." This means no Mandalore, no magic lightsaber crystals, and no need to deal with every other author's ideas for stuff.

>don't forget the part where he jacks off to his wife's character trying to fuck luke

Wait, you thought I was serious about that?

And I'm not sure how I can prove that the game's real. I can try to scan in the character sheets if you'd like? I mean... it's not like it's that ludicrous of a game.

>>53623919
>>53624003
I think you're both misreading the statement, which is totally my bad. I didn't mean "my game is /serious business/ and a three-eyed weirdo would be terrible. I meant "It'd be strange to include Trioculus because the game doesn't rely on much other outside-of-film canon, and I can't think of a good narrative reason to include him at this point, aside from /tg/ jollies."
>>
>>53624069
My actual point, my towering sarcasm aside, was similar to >>53623889 in that your game is already so silly, he'd fit right in.

Seeing as the Empire already appears to be politically divided, the PCs could feasibly get involved in the cloak-and-dagger world of Imperial military/intelligence politicking. Both Palps and Vader are going to need allies, and Trioculus' connections to the Grand Moffs do have the potential to make him a powerful contender in the impending ICW. Plus, everyone has to stop by Kessel at some point, right?

You two make a fair point. But I think that the whole "Marry the pretender to the Empire to Evil Leia, at a ceremony presided over by Darth Vader, and then lead a combined Rebel, Pirate, and Imperial fleet to take on the Death Star II" is sufficiently complicated that adding in a new element might be silly.

Who knows? Leia and the Bounty Hunter might even succeed in bringing Vader back to the light-ish side via a ludicrous sit-com style event. You know, make him remember what it was like to be loved, and to be happy, and to feel any emotions other than rage and sorrow.

Or he'll just choke them all to death and take over the Empire himself.

>feasibly get involved in the cloak-and-dagger world of Imperial military/intelligence politicking.

They could, but their specialties appear to be havoc, murder, and misinformation, not clandestine deals and backstabbing. They might try and convince some Grand Moffs that their rebellion will be more rewarding than life under an increasingly brutal and unstable Emperor, but that's about it. Maybe they'll try and convince some Imperial leaders that they could be "kingmakers", and feed their dreams of glory.

Does anyone else feel like the way ion and tractor effects work in X-wing is a little retarded? The whole point of them is seemingly so you can control the movement of ships and keep them where you can get to them and attack them, which you really only need for high mobility ships that arc dodge or just move around a ton like protectorate fighters, strikers defenders, maybe A-wings or K-wings, but most of those ships are the same kinds that are highly likely to be able to easily evade ion or tractor cannon 3-die shots through high natural agility, evade actions and upgrades like autothrusters. You can hit all of them easier with bombs I guess, but with bombs comes the issue of having to have the mobility to get to where you need to drop them first which is why you don't see people running bomb loadout Y-wings. There's also the ion torpedos which are 4-die but since modifying torpedos sucks for everyone but jumpmasters they don't seem significantly better against the ships you most want to get the effects on.
The ships that ion and tractor effects generally end up actually hitting are low agility small ships like B-wings and Y-wings which really don't need more shit fucking with their already ass mobility, and low agility large ships like the decimator, shuttle, ghost and falcon who hardly get affected by them anyway because of large ships handling the tokens differently. It seems like instead of controlling the movements of the ships you'd really want to control the movement of, tractors and ions just fuck more with ships that already have enough issues getting where they want to be.

Not to go all SJW in a thread about nerds and spaceships, but this shit happens because sex ed is so fucked.

50% of the US population does, has, or will menstruate; and yet girls are embarrassed about it and boys are disgusted by unused, dry tampons.

All sorts of weird sexist conservative gender role shit stops anyone from ever sitting all the teenagers down and explaining menstruation and tampons, and so they're just sort of left to their own devices and whatever devices their friends and family members pass down to them. Imagine if that's how toilet paper was treated culturally - if people were grossed out just by holding sealed packages of it, and however your dad disposed of toilet paper after he wiped his ass is what he passed down to you, and half the people never even learned to wash their hands after.

Hell, when I was in school, our teacher had to explain condoms off the record because we had a retarded abstinence only curriculum. And that was in Ohio, not Alabama.

Write-up of the lists at Armada Worlds and at EU championship (not by me, just sharing).
>>
>>53629135
Copypasta summary:
1. Based off the information we have (15/16 lists) no one made Top 8 at either event with less than 5 activations, in fact the average was greater than 5 at 5.53333333.

2. Unsurprisingly given point one, flotillas were almost omnipresent in most fleets. 48! 48 flotillas were taken in the 15 lists we have data for, and only a single list did not take at least one of them. Again, just like activations the average was very high at 3.2.

3. Squadrons were also present in heavy numbers in both sets of Top 8. The average across the 15 lists we have is 102.666667 points spent on squadrons. A sub-point to this is that middling amounts of squadrons are nowhere to be seen.

>>

I'd say Heroes of the Resistance.

While Ghost gives you some good cards (Sabine, conner net, cluster mines, etc) I feel that you get more value out of the Heroes set with stuff like Integrated Astromech, ps9Poe, Rey's crew upgrade, nuHan, etc. Ultimately, you need both sets for the modern Rebel meta, but my opinion is that Heroes is one of the first kits a new rebel player should buy.

Plus, I was thinking about Ezra on Keyan Farlander - assuming I can go "Okay so Im stressed, so Im going to turn this into a crit, and then spend that stress token to turn the other focus into a hit" - or would that not work?

At the same time, Heroes is the fucking Millenium Falcon, and an x-wing. The T65 might be much prettier and forever my waifu, but the T70 is still a good time, and HoR has some fun aces.

>>53631084
>what do you already have?
Way too fucking much considering how new I am.
Me and my gf have basically just been playing casual skirmishes against one another, and buying what we think looks cool so between us we have Core set 1 and 2, X-Wing set, Interceptor, SF first order TIE, Decimator, U-wing, A-wing, Reb Aces and Rebel Transport.
I bought the transport just because I had to have Wes and Hobbie and I have bad self control

As for what looks cooler, I do love the Ghost's design, but the other set is the Falcon and an X-Wing.
Its hard to call just on more cool, for me at least.

It works, but isn't that effective. Having hit-hit-hit is pretty damn similar to hit-hit-crit,

Also, the odds of getting 2 or more focus results (so keyan is changing results with his ability, as opposed to just dumping his stress) aren't great.

Ezra and Hera on a U-wing with FCS is a really funny ship that can park anywhere on the board as a spinning turret and still get full dice mods.

Right. The people on Tatooine drink the water.

Nobody is shipping water off of Tatooine, because there's not even enough for the residents.
>>
>>53634944
Granted we only saw a single town, but tattooine didn't strike me as a terribly wealthy or even populated place. For drinking water to be expensive enough that Luke could afford his own aircraft... it doesn't seem likely. What's more logical is a lot of water is produced on a moisture farm and it's mostly used on agriculture. The volume of output would explain the Skywalker's money.

What would be the best SW analogue for my Wooden Waifu?

She's fast, tough and can be modded for pretty much any role you could think of from heavy fighter, recon, EW warfare, precision bombing and torpedo runs. She's a mid-sized gal and not a natural dog-fighter but she'll always make it home.

None of the ships I looked at quite matched. The B-wing has the guns, modability and survivability but is too slow. Perhaps one could mod the Scurrg or Aggressor Assault Fighter to have more powerful engines at the expense of some payload but I'd prefer a stock vessel. No limits on system just the preference that she could still be relevant for GCW-era even if it required refits.

Then again, an ISD-II costs 145.7 million credits. Meanwhile, a Ford-class carrier is estimated to have a unit cost of US$9 billion. I guess it would make sense if KDY is working with crazy economies of scale and if mature, long-existing tech like hyperdrives and turbolasers turned out to be crazy cheap, but still, it seems a little off to me. The value of the credit can get a bit odd at times. And then there's the different credits that have existed throughout the setting. Rebel Alliance credits vary in value depending on the merchant and the exchange rate of Old Republic to Imperial credits is unknown.

Yes, just spray water on an otherwise dry field, in the scorching sun, on a desert planet, with no visible drainage.

This is literally just begging for both irrigation induced rise in salinity salting the fields from right under your nose, possibly salting them so fast that your plants will die of it before even reaching halfway to harvest, and even if they don't salt so quickly, they are going to die anyways due to a million little water droplets acting as lenses and burning the plants alive.

Like, Jesus, I get that not everybody can be in the known about the basics of irrigation and farming, but this is fucking 8th grade geography knowledge, and fucking anybody should know that it a bad idea to water THE LEAVES and not THE FUCKING ROOTS on even a hot summer day in fucking Norway, let alone in a god damn desert, holy fuck.

Also, water IS the crops on Tatooine most of the time. This irrigation method is a horrendous waste of water and I would expect someone from a planet with water so scarce you have to farm it to AT LEAST use fucking underground water droplet pipe irrigation.

The PCs are hired by the rebellion to escort a young girl off of a remote shit-hole planet, and along the way are supposed to recruit a once legendary-now-retired warrior who lives as a hermit.
They learn that the warrior was once a Jedi, but something seems to have happened to him to cut off/reduce his connection to the force. The girl is in fact his clone, one of the few survivors of an Imperial program experimenting with cloning Jedi to make force-sensitive slave assassins. She's trying to get to a safe have for other escaped experiments.
You're being pursued by a combination of Imperial agents and a crew of hardcore mercenaries who know the terrain and have extensive cybernetic enhancements. They're secretly being aided by an Inquisitor who's an earlier, monstrous product of the program.
Regardless of how hard you try, the ending is very bittersweet.

They're basically evil Scandinavians crossbred with Russians.
At best you'll meet a nice one that's only passive-aggressive and will only try to stab you when they're drunk, then the far end of the spectrum is pretty much endemic autism and the usual, glacial, miserable slavic mentality of 'fuck everything'. They're sort of confused as to being part of Sweden or part of Russia, then deciding they don't want to be part of the world any more and do their level best to be as contrary as possible on the way out- usually by hanging out with the edgiest kid on the block, Germany.
Then hope to die in the process.
Course, they didn't die, despite hanging out with Germans, living in a frozen wasteland and killing lots of Russians. So they just drunkenly lurch from one miserable day to another without any of the optimism of Norway or happy-go lucky attitude of Sweden. There was also the Red-White period early on where they did their level best to kill each other off as expediently as possible (because no one else could be bothered)- and failed.

>Specializations:
>Bounty Hunter - Mandalorian Wannabe (gets a jetpack, etc) [Splatbook XYZ pg7]

With the new inclusion of Thug Droids in the C-ROC expansion, does anyone else forsee any sort of other Team slot upgrades that grant Dice modification for huge ships?

A Team that gives Predator? A team that lets you change your focus results? Will any of these exist in the future?

Anyone buy the C-ROC that is willing to part with a copy of Thug Droids?I need some to do general thuggery on my Raider

I've always liked the idea of an elite squadron of Imp pilots comprised of survivors of previous squadrons that the PCs have destroyed.

That Op Spec is a godsend if your list also has other ships with Snapshot.

A good example is 2 TIE/SF's with Snap Shot, LWF, Sensor Cluster, and FCS.

The issue with that is that because Rhymer is overcosted due to his ago (Compare him to Tomax) that all of this shit is 101 points.

You can either cut Rhymer's frame or swap the sensor clusters to Primed Thrusters.

Man, I wish rhymer was costed correctly at 23 points.

I know, the bigger ships in Armada are really beautiful, but the squad models and lack of paint and detail really disappoints for the price. Seriously 20-25 dollars for a squad and you get unpainted pieces...Happy Meal toys have better quality sculpts...

I guess if you wanted to really tart it up and price is no object, could buy a TIE/X-wing from xwing minis and just put it on the base as a representative of the squadron. They are really nice mini's by themselves.

Yeah range 2 with rhymer is cool and all, but try this on for size:

Captain Oicunn
>snap shot, hull upgrade, Vader, bo'shek, Intel agent, doubtless
Major Stridan
>fcs, op spec, systems officer, pattern analyzer, engine upgrade

Both at ps4 with a big base bumper that can possibly manipulate its target into snapshot/Vader range.

Horrey Shiiett those look really good...but Come on man, for the price that Fantasy F. charges, they should have some rudimentry paint job. Having to put in the effort to actually apply paint to them should make them atleast half the price. 20 dollars? you know how much that pack of fighters probably costs to produce...? The card art is probably the most expensive thing in the pack...

I reckon the box and card is probably the most expensive part :)
Little low-detail plastics like that are probably 5cents each in mass production, at the most. Real shit painting them would be that lack of detail, TIE's seem to be a bit easier as its mostly just outlines and single colours.

It probably has less to do with cost and more to do with them just not having the painters available. All of the shit they make for both Armada and X-wing probably puts the factories they get this stuff from at their breaking point. The backlog for X-wing reprints right now is getting ridiculous. Also don't forget design costs, and the fact that for prepainted stuff they still don't charge that much even in Armada. They have to make that up somewhere.

I don't really care. They look fine on the TT to me, and that's what matters.
>>
>>53665166
Except they literally lose money on the X-wing core set. They've said as much. Armada's pricing is no doubt in part because they decided they wanted to stop doing that.

Now I do think the $100 MSRP is a bit much, I would have tried for 80 myself, but you still get a crap ton of stuff in the Armada core set.

We get roger rogered down here in Australia for mini's, regardless of who makes them. One of the guys in our group owns a games store franchise, so quite a few of our guys have them at 'cost+tiny bit' and its gone a bit fucking crazy.

>Well why should we Armada folk have to pay for the shit choices that F.F makes to bend over backwards for the X-Wing game..?

We also benefit massively from the lessons learned too. Armada is an infinitely better designed game than X-wing was. And it's still way cheaper to get a complete collection for.

Don't feel too sorry for him, we let him play with our ships and the trade off is that his lovely missus turned him from being a large knuckle dragging, violent neanderthal into something almost resembling a human being once in a while.
If we're feeling really generous we even let him win once in a while.

I'm curious as to what sorts of factions, anomalies, and mutants would pop up on Malachor V. If set during the GCW, there would probably be small groups of both Imps and Rebs--Bevel Lemelisk knew it existed and Luke apparently pondered the possibility of raiding the place for ancient Jedi gubbins. Maybe a crazy Dark Side cult as the Monolith equivalent in the Trayus Academy ruins, plus an obligatory population of Scum. Anomaly-wise, gravity-based ones like whirligigs, springboards, and vortices would probably show up. And of course, there's the reptile monsters from KOTOR 2. Not sure what else to add to the planet, though.

I have 405 exp to spend (party finished an arc and got 400 exp reward for that). Being playing a Force Sensitive Doctor with FR2 (haven't got Dedication and Reflexes) plus Move power (got all controll upgrades as well as 2xStrength), Influence (no upgrades) and Sense (No upgrades). Stats all 2, WP 3. Doctor spec got 2 5xp talents (surgeon and resolve). GM approve usage of FaD specs and Powers. Where should i invest my talents. I'm thinking about Soresu Defender with Armorer (like the specs), although Niman Discipline also seems nice. Any tips on what to pick?

Edge of the system, there's a secret imperial fleet whose only job is to interdict the shit out of the place.
You might be able to get in with proper imp credentials and a bit of luck but you're not getting back out without a signed note from Palpatine.

Is it appropriate to give the players obligation to represent crimes, or debts incurred unintentionally?

Say they've become wanted on backwater planet #7, or they crashed their ship into someone important's ship and they want reimbursement for damages.

On one hand it seems appropriate for the mechanic, and on the other hand it seems like over time they'd rack up an absurd amount of single digit obligations for crime x or incident y.

>>

Sound enough logic for me.

It gives them a good money sink too, since they can pour it into reducing those minor obligations (as opposed to bigger ones they can't just buy off, or at least not with the amount of money they've got access to).

For completeness though, I was just asking about including it in obligation. Even if I didn't it would follow them around. But like I said, I've been won over.

Do you have a lightsaber? If not, there's no reason to bother with Soresu/Armorer. Besides, Move with upgrades is a very effective weapon on its own, although you may have to occasionally spend a Destiny Point to say "there's a bigass rock over there."

Depending on your Medicine skill, you could also get a ton of mileage out of Heal/Harm.

>Shipfag's Starship Combat Fixes for EotE/AoR/FaD
>http://www.mediafire.com/file/y9w713etmckbs98/Shipfag.JPG

So what does this fix, exactly? Newbie here and I don't really get it.
>>
>>53677342
In the core system, it is VERY easy to destroy a starship, mostly because starships (especially the silhouette 3-5 ships that PCs tend to get) have very few points of Hull Trauma and System Strain. The PCs' ship blowing up is an automatic TPK. Most GMs would prefer not to have the party die to some random TIE fighters.

That's what the first thing attempts to fix, by adding extra Hull Trauma and System Strain to ships.

Additionally, there is no mechanical difference between shooting at a Y-Wing with piloting 0 versus an A-Wing with piloting 5, despite the many examples of starfighter dogfights where skilled pilots are able to avoid attacks.

That's what the second fix is for, by allowing piloting and handling to factor into being shot at. This also gives PCs a better chance of survival, since they'll likely have higher piloting than random TIEs.

Thirdly, shields do not actually reduce damage, instead affecting the likelihood to hit. Personally, I think this is appropriate, since Star Wars shields are often described as "deflector shields" that can divert glancing blows, but cannot stop direct hits. However, I understand that this is different from many depictions of shields-as-added-protection, and shields not actually reducing damage can seem counterintuitive.

That's the third fix, changing shields to directly reduce damage. Again, this makes PCs more likely to survive, since PC ships are far more likely to have shields than some random TIE.

Basically, to answer your question:

Core starship combat is described as "rocket tag", and can very easily lead to an unsatisfying TPK. Shipfag attempts to fix this by increasing the resilience of ships in general, and allowing more ways for PCs to prevail over generic 'minion' ships.
>>
>>53677342
Space combat, especially fighters, tend to resolve in one turn because they are so fragile. Because of how targeting works on the planetary scale, going first means you will probably hit and blow up your target.

Increasing survivability fixes some of these issues and gets you closer to the fighter combat in the novels.
