I found myself inspirated to make a CYOA, however I have some troubles regarding the point distribution. How do you handle them in your CYOAs? What are the mechanics you found yourselves defaulting to?

Ask yourself "Do I need points in this cyoa?" "Will it make the cyoa better or more indepth?"

Whatever you decide on points make sure that there are a few options to spend left over points on, if you're doing more then 1pt / option/tier. Nothing more annoying then having left over points and nothing to spend them on.

I liked the few I saw that were 1pt per tier with usually 3 tiers of powers/stuff. Also GiftedAnon did a good job with point spreads in his Gifted and Super Soldier (remake & original) cyoas. You can look at Tokhaar's dark elf slave one for a really bad and confusing way to do points.

Also you have to decide between universal points and points for various sections. More point types = more work for the player and can detract from the cyoa but can be necessary depending on how you've got various sections set up. e.g. points for items vs powers. etc..

Somewhat obvious advice incoming, but still needs to be restated. The system needs to match the...mood of your CYOA more than anything. High-point, high-math systems are fine (assuming you've the #crunch chops to pull it off), but only if you're setting out to make a mathy system. Extremely loose, low-# systems can be just as impactful and can give just as much inspiration for character building, but only if you've designed the system to do just that.

While my expertise is more in P&Ps than CYOAs, I think a lot of the same advice holds true. Hero system is great for creating a certain flavour of campaign--and building characters for it is great if you've got a calculator and some spreadsheets. FAE has basically no math, but can produce just as realized characters. Apocalypse World has an entirely different relationship between #s and players. You'll see very different campaigns coming out of each.

What sort of CYOA are you planning? And how do you want people to approach building a character for it?

Meanwhile, we act as support for Grail to make his hunting much easier, and are rewarded for the increase in efficiency with whatever share of the profit he feels is fair. Lisette seems like a good sort, so I doubt Grail will have a problem with her. None of us are really equipped to deal with any of the events (maybe Lisette could get an unlucky hit on the Dragonrider but that is pushing it) so we just have a small scale inconsequential existence.

As companions, I pick:

Gamer Slime - to push me into mastering my fine manipulation. Tentacled should help here.
Lewd Slime - for hanky panky, and getting comfortable with my new body in sexual situations.

Sports Slime - again, to master my new body.

Basically, I'll chill and get used to my new state of being, as well as set up the contacts I need to integrate my fellow slimes to the general society. Since my body now has superficial appearance of oil, I'll learn to give massages, maybe have some romantic adventures with the curious (and, of course, other slimes). The old me is a heterosexual male, but I'll try it with men just to see if that works for me.

A possible long-term plan is to become a dental assistant. With my Cleaning Agent ability, I can clean the patient's mouth far more effectively than any human, as well as eat away damaged dental bone gently and precisely. I should also be able to deal with saliva without those suction things dentists use. It's a pity I can't afford Rich, otherwise I could finish the job by turning my mass to gold, but with 3D printing making inroads into the industry that's a minor benefit anyway.

The future is bright and oozy.

This is one of the beasts for the expansion; I dropped it from this one in favour of the Clawfish because I needed more aquatics.

This anon has a good point, when you add large number of options even if they aren't required, there should be some sort of compensation, as where this DLC even comes with a cost for entry(not that a gold coin is that big of a deal). At least for something like this if you spend 12 holy points you should be able to judge literally everything, even if it doesn't come with the special knowledge that the bestiary grants.

You see enemies that you are able to judge more often. If you have a lot to judge, theoretically you should almost never see your 'weakpoints'.

I'm thinking about making a CYOA again. Tell me, of which of these ideas do you guys like the most.

1. Pseudo-sequel to the magical awakening one. Would give you the option to become either a vampire, lich, or werewolf, each with their own unique stuff. Roughly the same length as Magical Awakening.

Drawbacks being that 2/3rds of the CYOA would likely not be interesting for people.

Good part being that each "tree" would be relatively fleshed out, with about as many options as the equipment and the magic from the first one.

2: Something about Skitarii?

Like a become a Skitarii CYOA, where you'd pick your augmentations and shit, then pick a Forge World. Not sure where I'd go with this one. Would be similar to the space bounty hunter one.

3: Finish the Fleshweavers ripoff.

How does Travellers operates? I mean, they can travel through time and space, they could just go back in time to uncover mysteries, jump into an enemies heartchamber and plant an explosive charger or topple regimes before they start. Freeze Time is really good to get out of sticky situations and its useful to fuck people while they are frozen. If I havent used the miracle and there are only a few days to the next week I will probably be using this on B'Elanna to put her in a lot of embarrassing and lewd situations.

Will probably have to put a gag on the fairy since I took holiest of swords and the poor fairy will constantly have my dick in her making her go crazy with pleasure.

Spent a total of 23 Holy Points and 5 Golden coins, gained 8 Holy points and 1 mythical points from drawbacks so it should check out evenly.
