Emperor's Children decided not to go full frontal, rare STC printouts were unveiled and Imperial Army needs Marine supervision for some reason. Sadly Knight Houses killed the Baneblade star and Magnus has artificer rubble. The Lacarymaerta got bored of not having robot dinosaurs and Mortarion left his mask at home. One member in a squad can throw a grenade instead of shooting any other weapon. Unlike in 7th, I think it makes sense to extend that to melee because shooting pistols in melee is now a thing.

Personally I rather like fortifying, but I've literally never seen anyone use a Fortification in a game. No idea why, they seem cool and you can convert to your heart's content. Any of them any good? I feel like giving the pet fleshbags something to hide behind/under/inside would improve morale and also be fun.

It's difficult to find a place for them, isn't it? I mean, you can take most legions and play them on either side. People already do that, often under alternative color schemes but still using the legion rules. What do you gain by using the Blackshield rules and fluff?

FW has many of the same people painting their display stuff iirc, but like to make use of their specialist paints. They also tend to go for a grittier and slightly more "realistic" style, rather than bright edge highlights. Kinda similar to the older Eavy Metal stuff in a way.

You can't base the Imperium on science and reason while simultaneously refusing to discuss this incredibly dangerous and important subject with the men charged with protecting and expanding your empire. Hell, if Lorgar and the Word Bearers had been informed about the Warp ahead of time while they were still staunch supporters of the Emperor, they probably would've had a blast going to town on worlds for any trace of warp-based religions.

But, as we've known for a long time, for all of the Emperor's intelligence, he has very little in the way of social skills or common sense.

Updated list rating? I know it's still very low on points but that's all I can play with now. Hoping to start a narrative and fluff them up while I continue to collect stuff. If anything I want to know if it's a good chassis to build off of.

Oh, cool. I'd be cautious though, you can easily spend upwards of 600 points on just a handful of Custodes, and as you've already got a Primarchstar going (I assume) you're looking at a potential third of your points contained in a spartan tank.

Just food for thought, a trio of laser destroyers, a Sicarian, and a good ol' contemptor-Mortis backing up whatever reavers/veterans/Terminators you want will make for a solid fluffy list capable of dealing with a lot of stuff

I'm looking to do something with my BaC terminator captain. Is there a nice all around set-up for a Terminator Praetor that I should aim for? I don't mind doing a bit of converting if necessary.

It's a good start, but a lot of people question Laser Destroyer Vindicators - they disappoint so often. I'm not sure why; they seem fine on paper. I suppose Laser Destroyer Rapiers are often more efficient.

Fluffwise, Imperial Fists like Terminators a lot and they are very good, at least in the outgoing edition. Consider some. I'd consider giving the veterans some plasma or melta... but you don't have to; we don't know what'll happen to those weapons in 8th ed. Combi-melta vets are very popular right now, but they'll be so much better in 8th ed. that they should cost way too much to equip your whole squad with them.

And maybe you'll want Breachers as troops, if they get cheaper in 8th and/or you run Stone Gauntlet someday. Right now they work better in squads of 10.

Things to avoid: more than about two Thanatars and Scoria, Reductor Medusa spam and Droplites (Secutarii Hoplites deepstriking in an Arvus Lighter) unless things get hardcore. Myrmidon Destructors with Grav Imploders are also pretty fucking nasty in a transport, and spamming Triaros conveyers is also extremely powerful, since they're basically Castellax but much faster, have Flare Shielded Crassus Armoured Assault Transport stats and can ram at S9 and Haywire.

If it was just a MkII with plates, why even call it a new mark? MkIV nor V with such things don't get to be a new mark or even a variant, really. If the MkIII wasn't tough, they wouldn't use them all the way to M41 as heavy armours, they would have just slapped some plates on any mark and use that.

Nah, it was because all their other titans were Mars and probably so that they'd look good together in group shots and probably a lot of Heresy era stuff was Mars designed. Other forge worlds probably hadn't gotten their own designs off the ground enough to make an impact.

Seeing that the Mars armour plates are all separate from the kit, and they've already put out a Lucious style head, FW would have no problems releasing a Lucious conversion kit with square armour plates. They'll just hold on that one till the sales of the Mars start going down.

I don't get the thing about the Aquillon, they look like modified/streamlined Cataphractii to me? In comparison I think Tartaros has a different torso entirely, and the shoulders look like something in-between. Which makes sense if Tartaros is the most advanced and Aquillon is modified/improved Cataphractii. Presumably Tartaros uses some Aquillon elements when it became economical to include them?

It's probably something entirely more mundane, on long-running projects you get staff drift; either the people who cared leave for new challenges and get replaced by not as good people, or they get bored and their attention to detail drops.

Knights beat the DarkMech :(
Got to the point that the DarkMech lost their one Vulturax and Porphyrion and then couldn't really hurt them at all short of fistfighting and being exploded when they won.

This is why Knight lists can be a tad boring, especially when the Mech had way more killpoints on the table than the Knights.

Hey /Hhg/! I'm trying to fluff out my UM force, and I know a lot of you are pretty knowledgeable historyfags, so mind giving some ideas?

As is, I'm (obviously) gonna base the army off of Rome, specifically the ideas of veterans. The army list coincides, its termies with some locatorus, some vets, and dreads/Sicarians plus other stuff.

For their background, I was thinking of either making it something like Labienus and his men, and have them be the old dogs that served as front line troops in some of Guilliman's more vigorous conquest, OR base it off of the Roman force that fought Boudica and have them as relative nobody's that earned honor after fending off a massive cultist uprising.

Either way, I'm excited to blend HH and history together, and any help is appreciated.

Do Knight lists pay Price of Failure, or do they skip that along with the 25% LoW limit? Seems a little odd to impose all these restrictions to stop armies like that and then ignore them completely by letting you just ally in however many you want.

Oh, I was mostly wondering which sounded cooler, and if anyone had other nuggets of insight to add. Though historically I like the whole Boudica thing better (not everyday you face an army 20x your size and decide that charging is the best strategy, and then literally kill them on their own fortifications), labienus' role and story fits better with the army and UM in general.

Double-tapped the Vulturax to kill a Lancer, then went in and beat the fuck out of a Gallant before it exploded in his face and killed him and his one remaining Castellax with two D sixes on the BOOM. Wasn't really much for him to sink his teeth into, since all the melee Knights died and then there was just an Atrapos and Porphyrion standing off and methodically blasting apart all the Castellax.

Cybernetica really isn't the kind of army you want to take on a Knight list with, really. Durability doesn't stand for much, you're too slow to challenge the shooty ones and yo have very limited S7+ without many Vulturax. Also, he didn't bother spending 60 points to get his Thralls up to 20 per unit, which meant they couldn't really tarpit.

They should have had the leather arm/shoulder things but I personally may end up shaving off the Custodes detail (maybe once Chinamen get their hands on them) switch of the eagle shoulder for the other non eagle shoulder and maybe try a different helmet for my upcoming true-scale Marines using nuMarines and hopefully converted mkII plastic Marines which GW better release this year

Well, currently on my fourth cup of tea today, so you're more than right there. I kind of like the idea of the Old Albian proto-dreads and Ironside troops, makes me think they were essentially Leviathan clanker walkers and Fallout power armour. Given they eventually helped the Emperor out during Unification after apparently putting up a hell of a fight, maybe there's an excuse for a Blackshields force there? Might be cool to run.
