I would assume so. I mean, it'd be easy enough to say the bacchus from that one greek/roman play was a real thing and those spirits live on to the modern day. Lust is a pretty easy emotion to rouse up, I imagine some spirit would get an orgy cult going.
>>

Most of it was pretty okay all things considered. I just wanted to see redone contracts, those things were all fucking over the place. Some were totally useless some were pretty broken. I like the idea of the new contracts, still on one to five dot scale you buy any you want to, but can't remember off the top of my head if they were any good.

I get you. Personally I thought the Pledge crafting system could have been formatted better and maybe streamlined a bit. Also, the penalties for high Wyrd seemed to mostly just be inconveniences that would bog the game down.
>>
>>53329125
Beckett's kind of their signature character, he's a vampire archaeologist constantly on the look out for Book of Nod apocrypha, also the Gehenna novel has him as the main character.

Jack's a Brujah who dates back to the 1st edition clanbook and makes his living in the Anarch Free States- somewhat of a mentor to them.
>>
>>53329125

Jack likes to stir up shit, because reasons.

And Beckett's a skeptical scholar investigating the origins of Kindred and all the myths surrounding them.

I just went to the wikia for WW stuff and got this list of where Smiling Jack is from:

VTM: Clanbook: Brujah, p. 66
VTM: Clanbook: Brujah Revised, p. 95
VTM: Encyclopaedia Vampirica, p. 152-153
VTM: Guide to the Anarchs, p. 161-162
VTM: Gehenna: The Final Night
VTM: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
VTM: Clanbook: Brujah, p. 69

And this here is for Beckett:

VTM: The Book of Nod Bullet-pdf Bullet-nip (Commentary)
VTM: Lay Down With Lions Bullet-pdf (Second book of the Year of the Scarab Trilogy)
VTM: Land of the Dead Bullet-pdf (Third book of the Year of the Scarab Trilogy)
VTM: Vampire the Masquerade: Beckett Bullet-pdf (Comic Book)
VAV: Victorian Age Vampire Book III of III: The Wounded King Bullet-pdf (Contains probably the only canon sex scene he's ever been involved in on pg. 201-205)
VTM: Transylvania Chronicles IV: The Dragon Ascendant
VTM: Nights of Prophecy, p. 127 (House of Lies)
VTM: Time Of Thin Blood, p. 50-54 (Commentary)
VTM: Gehenna: The Final Night
VTM: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

I really don't like the new pledge system. I get that it could get a little crazy in 1e and also they wanted to tone things down from demon contracts but I really liked them. Things like swearing to watch out for each other and the one that let mortals see you're true form were always really cool to me and I really liked that one marriage pledge.

Who knows. I don't know what goes through his head, personally. I've looked in and out of his twitter. At one point after he quit he was going to make a vampire game 'about monsters, but not written BY monsters' and he stopped doing that, then he's made a 'Southern California Vampire' novel. He talks incessantly about politics and shit which makes no sense unless you're hyper-left.

Other than the whole "the prey must not know", or them getting pissy that they'd done it on their home turf, I can't see any reason they'd care other than perhaps being moderately impressed.

Also from a meta perspective, are Hosts just weird spirits, or creatures from the Lower Depths?

Bane: Young boys in tights.
>>
>>53331852

Think about how long it takes for an OPP book to come out even without delays. Then remember that you only get paid when the book gets published if you're a dev, and half on final and half on publishing if you're just a writer.

Might as well ditch the pay if you're not enjoying the work anymore, since the rate of pay pretty much means that things don't change very much.

How about Jack Skellington from a Nightmare Before Christmas as a Namtaru Predator who has Kinship with Changelings, Sin-Eaters and likely more? He is probably the Apex of whatever game he is in. Halloween Town is his Lair, with Chambers being shared with other Beasts of his Brood. He would impose the Wondrous (Halloween Decorations And Monsters) Lair Trait on the Hive. His plan to kidnap Santa Claus was due to his identity crisis over being a monster that has to spread fear over and over, but he eventually embraced who he was and defeated a much worse Beast (Oogie Boogie), possibly earning his Incarnate Inheritance in the process. Santa might have been a high level Changeling who was kidnapped through the use of cold iron and his Frailties. Jack's mortal identity might be a party organizer and wise aristocrat, as a reference to how much he loves holidays and books, as well as that classy look he has.

It could be interesting to make Jack a regular but powerful Beast, and he asks the PCs to help him kidnap Santa. He could use his high social standing to do all kinds of favors for them in return, and the PCs could take the plot of the movie in alternate directions if they wanted. They might end up with an Incarnate Jack as a friend, or an enemy. You could even set up Oogie Boogie as a rival Beast who tries to bribe the PCs to mess up Jack's plan. Oogie Boogie could be a Namtaru Ravager. He poses as an owner of respectable casinos and such, but he's actually a crook who loves to make people think they can win easy money and then ruins their lives by crushing them with debt, sometimes even secretly hiring his victims as "assistants" (read: criminals). And he has a grudge against Jack because Jack built his reputation on shutting down some of Oogie's operations.

Can anyone please explain to me why the developers of Changeling The Lost 2ED were changed recently? I thought it was almost done. No rumors, please.
>>
>>53334661
David HIll quit because NuWW hired a person to write their mobile game, and ostensibly work on V5, who Hill claims harassed him when he lived in the US (note that Hill lives in Tokyo).

They were apparently expecting this and having someone do rewrites on parts of the book near the end there and apparently there was some double work being done by Hill and someone else.

10 dot Disciplines were defined in the End Times books I believe.
6 dot Spheres were mentioned in Horizon: Stronghold of Hope
10 dot Spheres were exemplified in Masters of the Art.
6 dot abilities are also made explicit in both Werewolf & Mummy, but the supplements elude me.

The various high-level abilities were not made with balance in mind; Archspheres blow 6+ Disciplines out of the water by miles.
Use them at your own risk.

Can a Vampire regenerate a split open head?

And if so how many times?
>>
>>53337296
As far as I know, a vampire can regenerate any wound that is not immediately fatal or a stake through the heart, as long as they have enough Vitae. Surviving a wound that should kill a human is a Breaking Point for Humanity in Reqiuem, though.
>>
>>53337476

Vampires do heal from damage notoriously fast though, as well as being ridiculously durable to the point where shooting a vampire is about as effective as punching a human. You CAN shoot a vampire to death, but you can also punch a human to death.
As long as a vampire has blood and isn't in torpor he can heal, and some vampires won't torpor if they're frenzied.

>i asked him what was up he just clammed up
>after a while he said he didnt like something about the game and the way i gm'd
>i asked him what specifically was wrong so we could change that in the future

What would the various Groups Of Interest from the SCP Foundation universe be in the CoD?

Foundation = Hunter Conspiracy

Global Occult Coalition = Another Hunter Conspiracy, likely part of Task Force VALKYRIE. They'd have access to Second Sight-like Endowments and more.

Are We Cool Yet = A bunch of mortals with advanced magic item crafting abilities organized in a dadaist, 4chanesque way

Church Of The Broken God = large scale God-Machine Cult

The Factory = God-Machine Infrastructure co-opted by the Abyss or a Lower Depth?

Herman Fuller's Circus Of The Disquieting = A rag tag bunch of misfits travelling and perfoming together for mutual protection and being in a family, has beings and items from several splats

Marshall Carter & Dark = Ashwood Abbey turned up to 11

Serpent's Hand = a Nameless Order of Mages and lesser sorcerers that make their base of operations in a Mysterious Place that connects many points in the cosmology and holds vast arcane knowledge.

Doctor Wondertainment = Godlike Spirit of Toys and Fun? A Genius? Malfunctioning God-Machine Angel?
>>

I hope they've at least ditched the "Mulder's Lament" concept.
That they don't bother to hide the existence of their super-tech from the world, in a setting filled with Supernaturals who go to extreme lengths to hide, was pretty retarded.

Also the focus on retarded super-soft sci-fi concepts was entirely stupid.

The thing I love about Awakening is that it accepts almost NONE of the shit it uses symbolically actually works. It's the metaphor it stands for that they use.
They don't wave their mystic wand because that DOES anything, they wave it because that symbolically represents their command of the universe, which they can slot into their imago to reinforce it.
>>
>>53338393
OK, I must admit that I'm a part of the team. Regarding the need for a stronger masquerade in Genius, we are considering bringing back the Secret War, but keeping it open ended and customizable in order to maintain that toolbox feel of the CoD.

The focus on disproven scientific theories as frameworks for Wonders will likely be removed, as well.
>>
>>53338393
Thoroughly reading into the various sources of magic in fictional works is always a pleasure.

I do love the symbolism behind Awakening, surely more so than the consensual reality of Ascension.
>>
>>53338459

I'm pretty sure one of the books has an example Shadow cult that worships a Pan/Bacchus-like spirit. It had its members become a debased pleasure cult.

I can imagine such a spirit being the one to bargain with if you want to become luridly attractive or seductively charismatic.

Would Amaterasu from Okami work as an epic Werewolf? I'd call her a Royal Avatar of Helios, but apparently Helios and Luna do not create Royal Avatars.

Yeah, Helios is known for not liking Werewolves very much and for almost never changing his mind. Which makes the fact that she gained his favor even more epic.

>denies personal property

Wanting to be paid for personal contracted labor is still compatable with not believing traditional landlord systems and managerial business organization to be personal property. You can participate in a system you hate while still criticising it according to your worldview. Most libertarians still pay taxes, most socialists still participate in a capitalist market and most dominionists still operate in a secular state.

Eclipse Phase is an IP that the people who release it for free own. Hill wants money for a work for hire project because he's contracted to get some for working on a property he does not own. >Implying hybridizing the two for ultimate magefaggotry isn't the best answer

On an unrelated note, I'm running a Mage/Demon chronicle and have noticed how ridiculous contracts can get when the other party is a Mage.

We have a Demon and a Mage who have a setup where the Mage uses his magic to make bank, become famous, or whatever the Demon needs for a cover and trades it for things like longevity, the true names and social security numbers of prominent Seers, locations of artifacts, etc.
>>
So if it only takes six dots in a sphere to kill Caine. Why does he still exist?

Do archmages know of him?
>>
>>53345484

Of course they do.

Do archmages care about him? No, not really.
>>
>>53345484
>Do archmages know of him?
Yes. They know of him. Gaining primordial knowledge isn't difficult for sufficiently competent Mages.
Voormas acquired the dagger carved from the stone Caine used to kill his brother Abel.

Theoretically, an Archmage COULD (definitely so) annihilate Caine, whether it be six dots or above, but they're too far gone and lofty to really give a damn.
>>
>>53345484
You could end Vampirism entirely by lacing Forces 9 with Prime 6. This includes Caine.

You can't defend against the universe being thrown at you.
>>
>>53345467
I can't believe I didn't think of that before.

There has to be a way this can go wrong.
>>
Is Caine actually weaker than an Archmage or is this just nonsensical Mage wanking?
>>
Do aliens exist in CofD? I'm putting together a minor order/group of allied legacies for my game called the 'Tellurian Travelers'. They travel the universe in arcanotech spacecraft trying to find a world free from paradox and if other life forms can awaken.

They occasionally return to earth to recruit more mages and share whatever oddities they've found. Think a mix of Star Trek, Jules Verne, Event Horizon, and Dune.
>>
>>53345675
Go and have a look at Masters of the Art. It's a terrible supplement and reads like a beta product.

It is however overpowered beyond recognition.
>>
>>53345579

Well the Seers are eventually going to figure it out, find a rival Agency, and start doing it too. That's a given. They may even be better at it.

More immediately, there is a group in Mage called the Austere that I've always viewed as G-M sympathizers.

One of them already lost a Cyborg on Cyborg deathmatch with the Transhuman Engineer, so I'm sure they'd love to find a way to fuck the cabal/ring back.

>>53345743

I posted >>53344430 earlier, but it's a fansplat. That said, between Faeries playing pretend, The Greys in Summoners, references to Aliens running Cheiron in Mortal Remains, and other vague hints, I'd say they don't want to give a definitive answer.

>>
>>53345850
>I wonder what would happen if everyone unanimously agreed on Archmages being better than Caine.
>Would the Magefags lose their purpose?

No, because the archmages vs. Luna argument would still remain unresolved.
>>
>>53345743
There is no such thing as world free from Paradox/Quiescence/Dissonance. The Exarchs are responsible for maintaining the Lie, and they are not planetary in scope, they are cosmic.

However, if you want Awakened Space Opera, you can simply portray Atlantis as a vast Space Civlization with members from human and alien species. However, the Sundering scattered them all over time and space, and the Exarchs have been trying to keep us from reuniting or even coomunicating, since that could cause a massive increase in the number of Awakenings.
>>
>>53345916
>archmages vs Luna

I'm pretty sure the majority edged out in favor of the Archmages.
>>
>>53345930

>>
>>53345850

>>
>>53345916
You only need Transfiguration to beat Luna by permanently enchanting yourself in various ways to counter spirits of any quality.

Or just get up to Spirit 10 and slap her an automatic Ban.
>>
>>53345467
>>53345579
Gotta remember that the strength of the cover is based off the power of the connection.
So walking into a job as an investment banker with fate and tidily making bank for a week before selling it on wouldn't provide much of a buff.
The demon, if they want a strong cover, would be tempted to go after stuff like family members, closest friends, childhood memories, etc.
(that said if the goal is just making bank, or done over a long period of time, you can easily set up a very tidy little scam.)
But the mage'll always get that little ping on their senses when the pact is formed, reminding them that they could get arcane xp if they just *figured out how this works.*
>>
>>53345930
>There is no such thing as world free from Paradox/Quiescence/Dissonance. The Exarchs are responsible for maintaining the Lie, and they are not planetary in scope, they are cosmic.

I understand. I probably should've given more details about my setting. There exists a legend about an entire planet that was created during the time before a place that escaped whatever the exarchs did. It's considered to be a myth by the majority of awakened but mages that have explored space have found unexplainable phenomena that keeps the myth alive.
>>
>>53345850

Magefag chiming in to say I never cared for the wanking, and "better" is subjective.

More powerful, sure.

However, Caine is a more interesting character than most archmages.

Dante is a garden-variety messiah, Porthos is extremely dangerous comedic relief, and Asswad is just "you lose" with stats attached. Medea's kind of fun, though.

Especially if you show her Caster from Fate.

>>53345981

And somehow avoid the rest of the Pax skullfucking you to death.

>>53346005

True, though it does result in the demons having access to the ability to add "High-paying job," "Windfall," "Fame," or whatever else they can magic up to any existing cover that a demon wanted it for.

Any Demon who wants such a thing for a cover could get it through them.

The Seers will probably set mortals up with these things and force them to sign them away in exchange for things that benefit the Seer. Because, while Mages are bastards, Seers are extra super-duper bastards.
>>
>>53346072

World of Darkness brand was bought again, and they decided to release more oWoD shit.
So to differentiate nWoD from their new "One World of Darkness" brand, nWoD was renamed as "Chronicles of Darkness".
Which was followed with a bunch of shitty old grognards saying that CofD was not the "real" world of dakrness

Personally, I don't really mind.
Means people don't immediately think "oh yeah, that Vampire the Masquerade thing", then I talk about it.
Plus it further distances CofD from the shit of oWoD and its horrendously awfuls devs.

Also means that people don't have the same immediate expectation that it's about the same kind of themes, or in the same universe.
>>
>>53348571
nWoD second edition. Mostly minor mechanical updates.
-Conditions are a new thing. Exactly what they sound like, either last for a scene or permanent, various affects, you get XP if they get incontinent. Replaced derangements.
-Semi proper social system now. 'Doors' equal to resolve + composure, roll an extended action based on the targets disposition, a few other permutations. I wish it was a bit more versatile but then again, rousing speeches only have so much of a place in horror stories.
-Combat got a few tinkers. All weapons do lethal, damage rating is now automatic damage with a success instead of adding to the pool.
-Morality is gone, integrity is in. Less good vs evil more how crazy are you from general wear down from doing stuff
-Individual new stuff across various gamelines, to much to go into in once post. Of note is integrity equivalents are now not just morality+ anymore.

Kiiiiiiinda? It is psycho-active, and is probably in the shitty state it is because of how reality's pretty fucking nasty and dark in CofD.

However the Shadow isn't really "evil", just predatory.
However one of the most important factors, is that the more people there are, the thicker the gauntlet which holds them back is.

Though we do make really lovely shells for more powerful Spirits to wriggle their way inside and fuse with to prolong their existence within the mortal realm.

Here's a curious question that invokes some interesting perspective.

If you could redesign CofD from the ground up wholesale, which splat(s) would you make the strongest and why?

Shame they won't say it for nWoD.

Hunters
>>

Aha! Someone mentioned it! Now I can ask: Aside from the one that makes them spirit-chrysalids, and the one that turns them into sort-of-kuei-jin-sorcerer-poets, anyone seen any good fanworks on them?
>>
>>53350872
Existing splat? Mages. The entire point of the game is about being a powerful motherfucker, and tempering that with Wisdom, or going crazy with power and leaving everyone else holding the bag.

Followed by the other existing splats in the order of Demons, then Mummies, then Prometheans, then Werewolves, then Changleings, then Geists, then Vampires, then Hunters.

Fuck Beasts. Literally. Bind them up in the Astral and leave them there for later use.

So what's the deal with Mages being uber-powerful and almighty? Wasn't the reason Tremere became vampires because it was becoming increasingly difficult to use magic even in the Middle Ages?

Why should undead bloodsucking societal parasites be above the obsessive power-hungry scientists of the hidden magical world?

Because they just should, right? Jesus Vampire players are insufferable.

Thaumaturgy was a niche practice until House Tremere made the jump across splats. They didn't invent it but they refined, expanded and proliferated it.

Vampires of that age are basically fantasy dragons. Incredibly self assured, for good reason, of their utter superiority to anything that isn't Daddy (pic related).

So yeah, absolutely. Sure, an Antediluvian (probably) can't spin off a pocket universe and make it their own bizarre creation like an archmaster, but they've got their own fuckabouts.
>>
>>53351577
It only takes one Antediluvian pissing off an Archmage for them to find out that there are things out there tougher than even "Daddy".
>>
>>53351648
it also requires archmages to actually be able to walk on earth or you know canonically exist.
>>
>>53351648

Some are powerful enough to do so.

Not sure if serious.
>>
>>53351733
uh in MtA archmages were basically all in the umbra when it got cut off from reality. they cant get back. then theres the fact that in the entire existence of the game line theres been like 4 archmages and not one with a power above a 6. this super impressive archmages that everyone keeps talking about with 9s in everything dont seem to actually exist.
>>
>>53351771
So, uh, they do canonically exist and there were always examples of them walking in reality. You know it, I know it, anyone who picks up any of the more wanky books knows it. They usually just have to sit down and shut up or get bitchslapped by the cosmos. Right.

Less bullshit, more actual trolling. It's not like the game line is light on stuff for that.

Except some are still on Earth. Medea, Voormas, Senex, Dante, Al-Aswad (The Unnamed) and his various cohorts.

>then theres the fact that in the entire existence of the game line theres been like 4 archmages and not one with a power above a 6
There are a good half dozen mentioned Archmages having went above six dots.
>>
>>53351802
so the only thing you have to point to is a guy who gets possessed by something vastly more powerful than an archmage and only exists in the non cannonical end of the world scenario.

He wasn't possessed by anything. He's the first of the Nephandi. A Qlippothic Oracle.
>>
>>53351828
Voormas, Senex, Al-Aswad and the other Aswadim were all prominent in Revised post Avatar Storm.

Medea is currently too insane to even acknowledge the modern era.

there are like 3 and they're all only during the actual end of the world. other than that you have a handful of asshats walking around with a 6. this isnt quiet what the boards would have you believe.

The Avatar Storm locked access to the Deep Umbra and the reverse access to the Consensus.

Either you were on Earth or you weren't.
The most powerful of Archmages aren't affiliated with any of the factions and are off in space somewhere.

Archmages with nine dots explicitly exist. No names are given, but they're out there.
