>>
>>53226900

It's growing everywhere I see. It's Warmahordes that's taking the hit.
>>
>>53226900
Turns out infinity players actually have a game to play, they can't be on 4chan 24/7 talking about a game being dead.
>>
Is Haqqislam a decent faction to start learning the game with? My LGS has a starter set in stock and I was thinking of grabbing it and having the owner run me through a practice game or two
>>
>>53226995
IMO it would be much more preferable to split red veil with someone. The Al Fasid is great and there's almost no way you'll find it anywhere else.

Not sure I could really recommend the haqq starter set on it's own merits desu. The ghuilams are ok, but not used as filler as much as other factions base infantry. The Taureg is good but you'll most likely use it as a normal rifle version. The Zheyadin and Kwarij are both relatively bad and only good for proxies.

Strictly for learning the game though it's ok. I just think without the Fasid the starter loses a lot of it's appeal.
>>
>>53227101
Breaker rifle Zhayedan is solid. Khawarij is meh but the spitfire and doc profiles have some merit.
>>
what's a cool colour scheme for haqq that isn't the studio scheme? I played a while ago, did this boring as fuck grey and red scheme and want to get back into it, any ideas?

Nah, I can't remember the last time it fell without reaching the post limit. Try the Malifaux thread. OTOH kicking a downed man feels kinda bad

Starting infinity with 200 points league. First two weaks armies are fixed, and we play kill missions and easy missions. then we will move in to more complex stuff. I build this out of the stuff I bought and got as a present and build this list

Zuyong Lt
Zuyong harris I will use the crane and pheasent for those
Hsien HMG
Celestial with controler for Kuang Chis
2xKuang Chis
Ruishi Remote bot
Kanren Killer device
Celestial Guard FO, mostly for the second and third week when we start doing missions. this is 199/200pts 4 SWC used.
I also have this models 1 sofotec. 2 more kuang chi, 2 aleph bots, 1 zuyong with rocket launcher, 1 bow ninja. I also have 12 zanshis, 2 rifle hsiens, a 2 tiger warriors and spec ops, I got as gift along side those models. they are old models not from new starter set.
>>
>>53228436
damn forgot the question. Is this workable, or should I replace some of the units in the army from the other models I have . Ah and the list is secret service sectorial.

>>
>>53228455
>>53228436

Zu Yong aren't available to IS, so I presume those are meant to be ZhanYing instead in a Haris with the Hsien?

You could make the Hsien the Lt, while the non-Haris ZhanYing can be a FO instead. The Rui Shi does kinda conflict with the Hsien as MSV2 attacker, and not as good without supportware (no normal hacker in that list).

You could arguably swap the Rui Shi for a Dakini HMG or a Garuda shotgun, both of which can still be bad news for the opponent, and doesn't 'lose' that much from not having supportware as they lack repeaters. Or perhaps a Dakini LGL and one more Kuang Shi for a full 10men group?

Zhayedan's decent. It's got its place. Best for removing squishies, Dogged/NWI units, and breaking heavy armor low BTS dudes behind cover. Super annoying in suppression fire.

I'll agree with you on the Khawarij Rifle+LSG. Definitely the first model you'd want to proxy as another loadout or replacement (I use it as an Ayyar).

For learning making it easy for learning the game, I'm not sure if it's totally true. It's got a lot of complex or uncommon rules like the unintuitive Shock+Breaker interaction with the Zhayedan, Poison, Super Jump, Bioimmunity, Speculative fire with grenades and the LGL on the Fasid, Sixth Sense.
>>
>>53224099
That's actually true, I FINALLY found people to play with and it was a goddamn blast. JSA is so much fun to play. I took out a Gecko with my Shikami and the other was taken out of action basically permanently with E/M2. I'm sorry for doubting you, Haramaki. This game is so much fun, my god I love it so much. First game I played yesterday was with Morats and I got destroyed but it was STILL a blast. I can't wait to play again.

Greys and reds sound nice to me. I know there's an official QK scheme that is blue white and red but I don't particularly like it that much.

I personally paint them in various tones of grey, with some details in white, red, and coal black. Mercenaries and irregulars do their own thing.

>>
>>53230940

I think the themes are just less accessible.

Infinity is has an almost Anime style. Anime is pretty popular and so is military sci fi.

Malifaux is a kind of steampunk hybrid lovecraft hybrid, which is a bit more niche and edgelordy. Most people are turned off by that.

I got to play a couple games this week. Some interesting experiences.

I decided to try some Limited Insertion games because it's a weird format I have no experience with. I play MRRF and it was awkward making some of the lists in the first place, but surprisingly (to me at least) I handily won with my games. One against Pano with a Jotum the other against Haqq and a Maghriba.

First game against Pano I think I got kind of lucky. An AD guy with a multi rifle dropped behind my Anaconda and put two orders of shooting into, miraculously I passed all my armor. I think he got a little on tilt and abandoned the TAG to go after and kill Margot (who I deployed instead of parachuted). Had a firefight with the Jotum, shooting while jostling my linkteam to get a panzerfaust into position that force him to break suppression, but ended up not even being necessary as I killed it with crits and numbers game of ARM rolls. Duroc came in and cleaned house along the back nearly unopposed.

Similar story in my next game. B5 HMG and some Panzerfaust was enough to put the Magrhiba down in my active turn after a few orders. Duroc fell out of the sky, smoked, then nuked the doc, engineer, and another ghulam in one order.

Vive le France, I guess. I don't know.
I feel like these games weren't representative of the format, though. What is the normal gameplan/meta for Limited Insertion? What are the things to really look out for?
>>
>>53234719
>What is the normal gameplan/meta for Limited Insertion? What are the things to really look out for?
Good thing in LI is that you can field dudes you barely want to take otherwise. Anaconda is a good pick for MRRF.
>>
>>53234809
Well I'd say Anaconda isn't really a "good pick" it's basically necessary. Honestly I think Anaconda is a trash TAG, but it's pretty much impossible to reach 300 points in a single combat group without it. If you're playing LI as MRRF you're basically shackled to the thing or stuck playing drastically under points (which I'm not even sure is legal in Infinity? I know a lot of games have some limit on how far under points you can be, no idea if this exists in Infinity).

Going into it I basically decided to go very light on specialists and maximize firepower in the list (Moblot link with HMG, AP Rifles, And Panzer/Boarding Shotgun) because I was sure to see HI and other TAGs running around. Other than that I didn't really have much of a theory for approaching the format.
>>
>>53234719
Really dependant on the missions honestly. But generally you will see more HI (due to points) which means more hackers, which means more killer hackers. On top of that, infiltration and marker states are great as they minimize orders required to take objectives. Obviously, WBs aren't as good since irregular orders and cheap models can screw you.

I still am not convinced TAGs are not the way to go most of the time, unless you play a faction that literally can not fill 300 in 10 models without one.

One EXTREMELY important thing to remember is, as the second trun player you cannot strip orders. This makes first turn ridiculously good for many factions, and in my opinion means that it's better to keep your head down going second rather than invest in ARO pieces.

I've been playing Haqq in almost exclusively LI for a while, and saladin+fiday+going first is pretty ridiculous.
>>
>>53235034
Yeah removing the ability to remove orders on turn 1 was something that made me cock an eyebrow. I think winning first turn is a big advantage for most armies most of the time in this game (at least the advantage gained by going first is much easier to capitalize on than the advantages gained by going second) and it seems to be even better in LI.

I had the same thought about Hackers as well and I want to play with ALIVE while they are available (I'd be so happy if MRRF got to keep them after this season <3) but it's just too difficult to even bring a Wardriver or Alguacile in this format, let alone ALIVE. There's really no way to fit them without seriously gimping yourself.
>>
>>53235191
Idk, I think that going second and picking the table sides, then stripping orders is really powerful in normal play, since defensive links are very powerful. But since being super efficient with a 60 pt LI link almost hurts more than helps in LI, I tend to see more vanilla.

I personally hate ALIVE. I can't wait until they are gone. Some factions gaining that kind of hacking really throws off balance a lot.

Uxia seems like the kinda girl that'd sooner kick you in the nuts then laugh in your face if you asked her out. But if you two get to drinking in a crappy bar, some dipshit tries something and soon the entire bar erupts into a brawl. You're both laughing as you limp out of the bar, battered and bruised but victorious, and her blood's still up as she leads you into an alleyway...

>>53235191
Do you play missions or just throw your men at eachother in pitched battles?

Because every mission other than kill missions like Biotechvore Annihilation and Firefight favour going second for end of game objective grabs (if not, end of every turn objective grabs).

I'd argue the order strip is right where it needs to be in power against larger pools but too strong against smaller more elite forces, so it makes perfect sense that LI does away with it.
>>
>>53239695
>So how does the in between on range bands work? If someone is 24 inches away are they 16-24 or are they 24-32?
If you can't discern between over 24 and under 24 or otherwise believe the model is right on the line, it is under 24, it is in the 16-24 range.

http://wiki.infinitythegame.com/en/index.php?title=Weapon_Profile&redirect=no#Range

>Range Example
>A Combi Rifle firing against a target at Short Range (from 0.01″ to 8″) applies a +3 MOD to the shooter's BS Attribute.
>At Medium Range (8.01″ to 16″), it applies a +3 MOD to the shooter's BS.
>At Long Range (16.01″ to 32″), the Combi applies a -3 MOD to the shooter's BS.
>Finally, at Maximum Range (32.01″ to 48″), the Combi Rifle applies a -6 MOD to the shooter's BS. Any BS Attack made with this weapon against a target farther than 48 inches fails automatically.

My brother is interested in joining me in Infinity. He says that what he wants the most is to plan an army heavy in tachikomas.

Should I point him in the direction of Yu Jing or Nomads?
>>
>>53243072
PanO, Yu Jing and Nomads are all valid options for remote-heavy play. See which ones he likes the look of the most.
>>
>>53243072

I reckon Yu Jing can field the best rounded REM heavy force thanks to getting MSV2 rems.

And Rui Shi with marksmanship supportware is pretty monstrious until someone crits it.
>>
>>53243072

PanO has a couple of very strong remotes. Yu Jing has a big list of weird, offensive remotes. Nomads is the best at defensive remotes.

All are good choices.

>>53243444
>>53243419

Not focused on them, but Imperial Service can field more than any other Yu Jing force. For Nomads vanilla is best. All PanO armies can put out a decent number of remotes, but vanilla or NCA get you the most.
>>
>>53243583
4 legged ones which are probably what your bro wants, not really.

There's 2 legged rems in fireteams in Onyx contact force (or you could go Aleph and hold out for operational subsection),

>>53243583
No, but it's kind of hard to run a list entirely dedicated to remotes.

I suggest also looking into the engineers and hackers available in the army too.

Also what units you'd need to shore up a remote heavy army's weaknesses.

Ex: Pano emotes have trouble vs Camo, TO Camo, and Optical Disrupters so you maybe wanna run an Aquila Guard, Nisses, ect

Yu Jing remotes have limited long range offensive capabilities outside the ARO bot, so enemy ARO bots and snipers can be a difficult thing. Some drop troops, a Hsien, or a Daofei could probably help clear those out so your remotes can rampage.

Stupid question, but has O-12/anything about humanity left the Milky Way?

Also, anyone have any conversions? I remember seeing someone who modded Spetsnaz and I think a Tankhunter into Vindicares. Kinda want to see Space Marines as PanO religious units.

I remember one of the fans exclaiming "It has zombie hookers" -as a selling point. Yeah, mate. That's not a plus in my books. Some of the models look nice, but I prefer the discontinued metal line in most cases anyway.

Not even close. The Human Sphere is pretty tiny, only about a dozen systems connected by wormholes.

Blatantly stolen from 40k, but desert pink cloth+silver/grey everything else. Kinda like the weird British morning patrol camos from WWII.

How would infinity play if they replaced the D20 with 2 D10s or just replaced the D20 completely with a D10 or D12? I believe that D20s are too much of a virable.

A clusterfuck of rewriting the rules and balance issues.

Moving to a d12 would fuck up everything as you attempt to switch from 5% steps to 8% steps. ALL of the numbers in the game would need redoing.

Going to 1d10 ranges from stripping task variability at the least disruptive (take your final normal d20 target number and map it down to a d10), to stripping a lot of the distinctness out of the model types and screwing up the entire target mod system by switching to d10 as first principal.

2d10 is a bell curve of sorts, and is heavily weighted toward results of 9-13. Target numbers below that become MUCH worse, while target numbers above that get much better with the exception of Critical Hits (and Armor checks, of course). A target number above 16, fairly common in Close Combat and quite possible at range, has less chance of a critical hit on 2d10 than on 1d20, while the 7-15 range of targets has a higher crit chance. There is NO good fix.

You can't change the dice the game uses without changing everything else around it.

D20 isn't really any more or less fickle than any other die, it just has a finer level of granularity. When you're making a roll on a D20 you just have x% chance of succeeding like any other roll, going in increments of 5%. Infinity dice gets complicated with F2F rolls.

In general I wish more game systems would move to multiple dice and a bell curve style dice system. Maybe WarmaHordes has biased me, but I think it's the best way to do things. It makes the dice a little more predictable or easier to plan around. Adding or subtracting flat numbers just shifts the distribution up or down, adding an extra die gives you a whole new distribution.

Overall I like Infinity's dice system, though. It's certainly unique, but it's not overly complex and it's functional. Crits can fuck off though, I hate that they exist in every game. It also triggers my autism that armor rolls are backwards in Infinity. Everything else is roll = or below, armor specifically is roll in EXCESS of the damage value. It's WEIRD and I do not like it. I don't know why they couldn't have just made armor values large numbers like the rest of a model's stats and had damage subtract from that value and then roll = or below like everything else in the game. Some stuff like AP would have to be changed, but it wouldn't have been that hard to work around. Also, I find it odd that all dice mods are in increments of 3. I guess it makes things easy to remember and calculate, but it seems really limiting and arbitrary.
>>
>>53247195
Think of it as a roll to pierce the armour rather than a save.
>>
>>53247195
Armor rolls are there to screw loaded dice.

MODS in increments of 3 i think simulate +1 on a d6 die.

You can think of it however you like, it's still the one roll in the game that is completely different and backwards from the rest of the system. Never mind the fact that is clearly a "save" and not a damage roll. The defending player makes a roll modified by ARM trying to exceed the damage value of the weapon (warmahordes does damage rolls where dice are added to the damage of a weapon by the attacking player and trying to exceed the ARM value of the defending player).

It will just always stick out as this weird quirky, backwards roll. A lot of games have the one roll that doesn't really make sense. In WHFB it was trying to roll under your courage stat. In MERCS I think their backwards rolls was also courage, or perhaps the armor roll I can't remember any longer. Alas poor MERCS. I'm not sure whatever happened to that game, I think it got a second edition, but it the game died out in my area 6 years ago. The minis make decent Infinity proxies, though.
>>
>>53247522
Why try to "simulate" a D6, though? What's the point? I mean, the D20 gives you all this extra space to work in and fine tune balance or numbers and you're going to arbitrarily hold yourself to constraints that roughly approximate another die?

Don't get me wrong, I think the dice system is more or less fine. These are minor quibbles and fascinations of mine, the game works fine. There are just these quirks that don't really make sense to me.

The backwards roll in order to check cheaters who may be using loaded dice is the best explanation and I never even thought of that. It's a little cynical, but it makes perfect sense. Is that an assumption? Did CB state this? Or is it just a common practice in game design to have a roll like that and I've been ignorant of the method?
>>
>>53247784
I think a few games have at least one "backwards" roll to screw loaded dice. In 40k it was Leadership.
>>
>>53247920
>Or is it just a common practice in game design to have a roll like that and I've been ignorant of the method?
I can't think where offhand but I've definitely seen it in a few places.
>>
>>53247920
It's pretty common to have a roll that works in reverse, yeah. I don't think it's something they teach you in class but it's a clever little trick a lot of designers seem to use.
>>
The most common d20s made frequently have some minor bias, and occasionally have a bad one. Being a very roll-y shape helps even that out on the right surfaces, but a strong bias can still emerge. Test your dice in salt water (add enough salt to water until the dice float, then spin them; most will return to one face; the speed with which they do so is the kicker). Even a bias toward the middle is a bias, and can be the ideal one for Infinity.

Also, DON'T let anyone use MtG life trackers as dice, especially in Infinity. They are numbered differently and a bias is far more predictable on a life tracker.
>>
>>53248507
They are also not intended to be used as dice, so their rolling QA/QC is lacking.

>Crits can fuck off though, I hate that they exist in every game.
Try playing Infinity without crits. Avatars fucking everywhere.

Crits are important to give you a small chance of winning every fight, or else it would become boring and high arm would be king.
>>
>>53248795
There are still better ways to do it to make it more interactive. Something along the lines of:
>Auto-winning ftf
>Auto wounding if you crit AND win the ftf
>Reducing armor to 0 if they have to take a save
>>
>>53248795
>Try playing Infinity without crits. Avatars fucking everywhere.
Not him, but I did. Crits are fun but retardedly not costed. Take out crits and burst is no longer do-all end-all miracle cure, HI and TAGs are viable and strong even without the new pilot rules, AP weapons make sense.

Also, at 137/3.5, the Avatar better be the hugest dick in the game.
