That is one of the things I considered for it. The stardrakes ranged abilities fit the Klad Barag's pretty well. However its melee stuff was kindof lacking.

When I built the big hammer, I realized the warscroll needed a really nasty melee attack, and the carmine dragon fits that really well.

We all know what people hate, and we all know what people like to play with.

I like playing against mono skaven (no sayl etc) because they are not too common and all the things that can go wrong.

Really interesting video on Character sniping.

>>
>>53217094
In the Bad Times, I had a unified Nurgle force (mortals/beastmen). It would be nice to get the same synergies going between brayherd and marked armies (Deciples of Tzeench, Bloodborne, etc) at some point.
>>
>>53217251
A lot of people are crying for a lot of 40k's rules to be adapted to AoS (like shooting in combat) and I generally disagree with them.

But the one I agree that AoS would benefit from is you cant shoot at characters if another enemy unit is closer. Hero sniping in AoS is a problem I feel.

Otherwise I think 40k rules need to stay in 40k.
>>
>>53217283
If you watch that video you'll realise he's not asking for any 40k rules in AOS
>>
>>53217294
I know. I am just stating what I feel on the subject.
>>
>>53217251
A few of the weapon teams in formations deal with this too. If within 3" or something of an ally battalion unit, damage is moved or the save roll is increased (I don't remember off hand)

I like the ideas behind this guy's discussion for sure. GHB2 should deal with this, I hope.
>>
>>53217246
for some reason GW decided that the bonuses associated with the named KO ports should be tied to a requirement to paint the models in that ports color scheme.

outrage and denial ensued.

in the end it was irrelevant because no one really cares what/if you paint anyways.

>What army do you like playing AGAINST the most? Why? Is it the cool models? they are fun? They are EZ? ...

Seraphon. I have been Pestilens since i began WHFB and always sought out battles against their eternal enemy the Lizardmen, i both love and hate them.

I enjoy killing them, but i also like the cinematic feel of a hundred or so plague monks surrounding a small host of defiant saurus. they can be cheesy but it's the one army i have no problem with going full WAAC, no restraint needed and i expect nothing less from them.

Also Ironjawz. they don't fuck around and come straight at you. I like that
>>
>>53217207
Oh, I have a pretty decent idea of what to try. But I thought to ask just to see if I'd hear of choices I overlooked.

For now though, I am most convinced that I shouldn't be as focused on army composition combos as I should be on learning the skills relevant to the game. Eyeballing and estimating distances, piling smartly, managing traffic, etc.
>>
>>53217334
this is the reason why i was mostly away when i heard 8e was going to drop.

>>
>>53217334
Whether or not one's interpretation of the rules is relevant, it's all a moot point as it is one of those rules that literally nobody will enforce or give a shit about.

I could paint my KO pink and green and say they use barak-thryng rules, and literally no fucks will be given. So people can bitch all they want "b-but you have to paint it required colors" or "its not a real rule" it doesn't matter.

The stacking buffs characters provide are too valuable for them to be essentially immortal. Even as it is currently its difficult to dismantle an aetherstrike or mixed kunnin rukk. A Bloodletter bomb always does its work before you get at the general, and the banner, and sayl.

the dog barks if an enemy unit is set up within X inches of it and friendly units within Y of the dog get a free extra round of shooting out of sequence at the set up unit.

>>53217994
Warning Cry: It is said that it is impossible to sneak up on a Gryph-hound. If an enemy unit is set up within 10" of this unit, roll two dice. Any unit within that many inches of the Gryph-hounds is alerted to the enemy unit’s presence, and can attack it with one of its weapons as though it were your shooting phase.

Anytime anything is setup within 10" a hound, so any summon or deepstrike everything in 2d6 inches gets to shoot it.

The base is the worst part of him, unpainted sand and a really unnatural grass line going straight down it, it's fine to have a mixture of grass and sand but you need to make it look a bit more natural.
You've got a reasonable big area to work with, add some smaller rocks or some sort of other details (I find chunks of cork work great for this)

A handful of shooting units are too good so you blanket nerf all shooting units? This is idiotic.
>>
Cavalry needs a buff, make it fucking insane on the charge then mediocre the rest if the time.
>>
>>53221656
>>53221698
I hope this only applies to the new tome releases, where shooting is horribly undercosted and usually paired with multiple wounds or mortal wound potential.
>>
>>53221796
It's not just Longstrikes and Skyfires. Stormfiends, thundertusks, and hellcannons are not good for the future of this game.

We need rule changes that give the design team room to create new factions and cool special rules without making them too powerful because they can snipe characters easier
>>
>>53221950
No problem nerfing those units points or rule wise. But you can't tell me that Sisters of the Watch are worth 240 points for 10. If you blanket upcost all ranged you will hit things that really don't deserve it.

If you run the numbers for their other weapons Stormfiends need to do 1D3 per model with their flamethrowers for it to be in line. They aren't too cheap they have a broken rule.

Thundetusk could go to 3+ but I don't really think they are absurd compared to the Stonehorns, maybe they're both just too good.
The real problem is the Arrowboyz. Rukk is too cheap, it has low requirements, the effect is too strong. The models themselves are ridiculous at 2 wounds and .75 damage for 10 points each. They stack to 40 and trigger their bonus at just 20 they eat 40 wounds before being reduced in effectiveness.

How good is the Legion of Azgorh in AOS? I really like the look of their models but they're expensive as fuck from forge world and if I'm going to invest that much money into them I would want a seriously competitive army.

What are some of their biggest strengths and weaknesses? From what I can see by looking at their stats they're either heavy artillery focused or heavy cavalry focused. The problem that I'm seeing is that they don't seem to excel in either field.

Can someone here help me out with making a decent list with them? I typically run around 1k points since that seems to be the most common lists for my area. I kind of like the Magma Cannon but I think it's a little risky at 160 points, a 1/3 chance at completely wiffing each turn makes it a risky choice unless you have 2-3 of them.

I would also like to mix them with my Warherd bulls but both armies lack a general battleline option which fucking SUCKS since they seem like a good fit for one-another.

Allegiance: Chaos
Daemonsmith (100)
- Darkforged Weapon
20 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn (200)
20 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn (200)
Magma Cannon (140)
Magma Cannon (140)
Iron Daemon (200)

Total: 980/1000

That is the best I can really come up with by just looking at them. Would you do anything differently?

I know theres that one guy on here that keeps posting his WIP of these guys. Are you here now? What advice can you give a semi-new player that wants to get into them?
>>
>>53222277
Id rather see Stormfiends get Warpfire Projectors limited to 1 in 3

Thundertusk should get one of two changes:
1. 3+ instead of 2+, it's far too reliable right now for how much damage it does
2. Reduce the range from 18" to 8" or 12".

Arrowboyz definitely need to cost more than 100 for 10. I would increase their cost to 120 for 10 and increase the cost of the Kunnin Rukk to 140

I would also ban Aetherstrike from all tournament play
>>
>>53221488
I mean I don't have any pictures but rough recap:
Beastmen
1 Malagor
1 Morghur
1 Beastlord
1 Bray Shaman
10 Gors (two weapons)
10 Ungor Raiders
1 Ghorgon

BCR
1 Stonehorn
1 Thundertusk

First turn hilarity as Ungor Raiders moved like 14" and shot at the Stonehorn. Everyone running forward, Ungors were surprisingly not shit (though mostly bad dice rolls on his part I think). Basically MW spam killed most of my dudes. Malagor got Viletide off twice and did like 1-2 damage each time. All the heroes together managed to focus down the thundertusk. Really the ending was the funniest--it came down to the last combat phase during my turn and the Ghorgon managed to kill the Stonehorn. Played it out, if he hadn't, Stonehorn would literally have killed the Ghorgon on his turn of hitting back.

Have to say the MW spam on the BCR is just as stupid and OP as everyone has been bitching about, but we still had fun with the sheer incredulity of it all.

Its an army you play because you think they look good. Not because they have spectacular rules.

You need a Castellan in there so you can focus fire shit with 30 fireglaives, with lord of war and his little wound buff they put out like 20 rend-1 damage.

The iron demon looks weak as hell, but the magmas cannons look ok at 3 average damage per shot they're just slow and short range.

As an aside why do so many forgeworld models look like twice eaten vomit?
>>
>>53222443
Thundertusk at 3+ average 4 damage, they take a hit and you're getting 2.3 damage for 340 points. That's why I'm leery of messing with them. I can get Kairos and a LoC for cheaper than two Thundertusk and they crank out like 15-16 mortal wounds between their four spells a turn and can be made to almost never fail.
>>
>>53223052
The difference here is that the Thundertusk can move 8+D6" before shooting while the LOC can't move before casting his spells

It's fine for spells to do mortal wounds because their threat range is easier to play around. Stormfiends and Thundertusks do too much damage, too reliably, from too far away.

None of them had ever witnessed such a dazzling vision of unholy power.

The column of light resembled the gaze of a god, shining down benevolently on its most beloved child. A glittering mantle of snowflakes surrounded Sigvald as he surveyed his brutish enemies. “AVERT YOUR GAZE!” he cried, his voice ringing out across the battlefield and his eyes blazing with scorn. He turned his sword towards Mord Huk’s knights. “DO NOT PRESUME TO TURN SUCH REPULSIVE FACES IN MY DIRECTION!” To their amazement, whole swathes of the army looked away in shame, humbled by the prince’s words. Others roared in defiance and launched themselves at him, but before they could reach the Geld-Prince, their brother-knights clubbed them to the ground, desperate to protect the glittering prince..."

>>
>>53228769
Kharadron is stronger than Sylvaneth is stronger than Jawz. It does however depend on how you build it, Kharadron is only ridiculous if stack the maximum of one type of gun in max size units and keep your ships down to just the ironclad, two frigates, or none at all.

I personally like Sylvaneth because it can still be strong with fluffy looking compositions that have nice mixes of all their units types. They also get battalions that allow a few out faction units for variety without breaking allegiance.
>>
>>53228867
The Kharadron list I mused over for awhile was Admiral, Khemist, 2x 10 Arkanauts (3 volleys in one, 3 skyhooks in the other), 6 Endrinriggers with drill cannons, and a frigate. Would go with Mhornar.

Currently I'm leaning towards Kharadron, but Sylvaneth are aesthetically pleasing.

Wrong.
Snipers will finally be usable.
Also, preferred enemy now is for sniping characters as well.

Units will have to fire at the closest, but other characters/models can pick them out. So my Leman Russ or Inquisitor can choose any target.
My guard will have to fire at units if close than the character.

I'm not sure about this anon saying another treelord, most lists run one treelord ancient and not much else. Larger 2000 / 2500 point games might have a spirit of durthu around too but if you're just starting I'd focus on 1000.

Tree revenants give you some mobility outside woods, so can come in from behind to aim for enemy wizards and such. Kurnoth hunters are your big damage dealers, whether ranged or melee, so grab they're probably a good next step as well.
Past that it depends how you want to build your army. There's quite a few fun battalions sylvaneth can do so have a look in the codex and see what interests you.

Because enforcing sticking to one port during the course of a tournament is the only reasonable way to ignore the "paintgate". That's the only point of the entire fucking thing.
You should, in a tournament setting, not be able to play mhornar against one, and zilfin against the next opponent just because zilfin would suddenly be better.
You can achieve this in 2 ways: paint gate, or by saying "paint them however you want, but note your port on your list and stick to it, or you're out".
Needless to say, the second option is vastly preferable to the first.

If you don't have to paint your dudes in the port's colors to get the port's bonuses then where in the rules does it explain how you get the bonuses?

The only reference I can find is the second page of this >>53231468 where it says you can get the bonuses by painting them the right colors. No alternate way of obtaining the bonuses is even mentioned so far as I can tell.

There is nothing wrong with complaining about not having a recent release. I complained about the lack of dwarfs because fyreslayers don't actually exist, but when you see someone get something new, it is only the Skaven that insist they should get the exact same thing.

It used to be Elves that done that, even with other Elf factions. I remember the rage from High Elf players when Wood Elves got magic arrows in their last book, saying how they should get the same thing, as well as army wide armour piercing to make it fair.

>>53244946
He meant the faction in AoS, not actual vampire counts. I have a feeling GW really wishes it didn't split the races into dozen factions, esp. the Death.
>>
>>53244946
Hes talking about the new subfaction divisions that happened during the conversion to aos. Soulblight is effectively just the Vampire Lord, Coven Throne, and Bloodknights, which aren't even a real unit since 99% of people convert them. They had FEC cannibalize the Vargheist and Zombie Dragon. Vampire Counts in a dustbin for dead models.

Vampires still exist obviously since Fyreslayers are fighting them in some fluff in their battletome, but they are likely going to be deep in line for any releases or re-imaginings. The next thing death gets if the shadow elves or whatever aren't in death will likely be new Deathlords.

>>

they're OP, they are the easy as hell to one drop, they can create 40k esque death stars and their battleline units are artillery units with min 10 max 40 wounds ( people tend to run them 30+ models).

Cool army ruined by power gaming arseholes and bad game design. They're what Eldar was to 40k 7th.
>>

New Skaven player here. I've been building my army, and I think I've got a solid foundation going. Now I'm looking at getting some kind of big, flashy unit and I can't decide between Thanquol or a Verminlord of some variety. Looks-wise I like them roughly equally, so I was wondering what would be the best option for semi-competitive games.

As a side question, how good are Hell-Pit Abominations in AoS? I've always liked the model, but I seem to hardly ever see anyone use them.
>>
>>53246279
Do spidergrots!
>>
>>53247012
Looking at the warscroll I would say that it is a pretty decent behemoth, so if you like it, then go for it.
>>
>>53247012
I proxy Boneripper without Thanquol and some handswaps as a Hell Pit, since I prefer the miniature and he looks better in my Skryre themed force.

What's the rest of your force like?
>>
>>53247117
Current model total is 80 clanrats, 40 monks, a Screaming Bell, Warp Lightning Cannon, 4 rat ogres, 2 warlords, 2 warlock engineers, a plague priest, a ratling gun, warpfire thrower, poison wind mortar, along with some packmasters and giant rats. Looking to grab a box of Stormfriends and Stormvermin before getting whatever Big Guy I end up choosing, to round everything out. I haven't really sat down to put it into a coherent list yet.
>>
>>53247244
Get a vermin lord
You can use him with your monks or run as a warbringer for your clanrats etc.
Hes more flexible for future armies.
>>
>>53246279
I heartily recommend Moonclan Grots. Amaze and entertain your friends with a grot warbosses, general being with moon-cuttas, battle brew, bellowing tyrant and a great deal of moxie. Zip around with your destro move and hunt for those 6's, see how many wounds you can pop in a single combat.
>>
>>53247012
>As a side question, how good are Hell-Pit Abominations in AoS? I've always liked the model, but I seem to hardly ever see anyone use them.

I play Moulder and think they are awful for the 300 pts price tag, especially when Stormfiends exist. if they were 260 or so i'd be happier

we need the GHB2 to fix this, and really the entire Moulder line needs points / warscroll fixing
>>
>>53247399
They need to change Stormfiends equipment options to be closer to the box. 3 Projector fiends is just ludicrous.

And comparing every other 200+ Skaven unit is not totally fair since Stormfiends are so strong right now that the question will always be: 'Why are you using those 200+ points for something else than Stormfiends"
>>
>>53247266

Wouldn't a combat-focused moonclan warboss be really fragile? They're only 4 wounds!

If you can take the moon prodder and squig version it can be very strong, although unreliable as any moonclan unit, especcially with the possible d6 damage of the squig.

And, if you have an heavy hitter units such as an unit of fellwater troggoths or a giant, you can sneak him on one side for a bunch of extra wounds.

And it's missiles weapons are fairly good.

Or you can just use him as a buff for your big unit of spearmen, best if 40+.
>>
>>53247861
>And comparing every other 200+ Skaven unit is not totally fair

True. but the Hellpit is still really crap for 300.

A Shitty 2d6 movement only 12 wounds and a basically useless 5+ save let it down hard. Only upside is decent melee and it heals d3 wounds.

The "Too horrible to die" ability shouldn't be factored into the cost since it's totally random and unlikely but clearly it is. If the Hellpit ALWAYS got back up with d6 wounds upon it's first death then sure.

You want a treelord ancient (made from your treelord,) 10 tree revenants, another box of dryads for 1k.

Here's what I run.

Sylvaneth, 1000.
++ Gnarl Root Wargrove 80pts ++

++ Household 20pts ++
> Treelord ancient 300
> Branchwych 100
> 10 tree revenants 200

> Kurnoth Hunters w/ scythes x3 180
> Dryads x10 120

Gnarlroot has some sweet bonuses and you can include any ORDER WIZARD like sisters of the thorn or a celestial hurricanum or even a slaan.

It comes with 2 buffs.

>Any Gnarlroot Wargrove Treelord Ancient, Branchwraith or Branchwych can cast one extra spell and unbind an extra spell.

>Each Gnarlroot Wargrove Wizard knows the following spell: Verdurous Harmony cast value 7, select friendly SYLVANETH unit within 18" One model in that unit that has been slain earlier during the battle is returned to life. Return d3 models to the unit if they are Dryads or Tree Revenants instead.

Usse Silent Communion in the herophase with your Treelord, while also casting Regrowth on himself and Verduous Harmony on the Kurnoth Hunters.

Branchwych hides behind Dryads and hides in a sylvaneth wyldwood you move around using Treesong, while casting Mystic Shield on your dryads.

Tree Revenants BAMF behind your enemies lines ontto their table edge and assault any ranged or artillery units he has.

Treelord should take either the Briarsheath (-1 to hit for all rolls made by enemy units) or Oaken Armour (+1 to save results), or Moonstone of Hidden ways (teleport anywhere outside of 4" of enemy models. This counts as him moving. he can still charge.) and the spell Regrowth.

Branchwych takes the spell Treesong (moves wyldwoods and any units wholly inside them 2d6,) Seed of rebirth (First time they die, instead return them to life with D3 wounds) or Acorn of Ages (set up a wyldwood within 5" once per game) or Ranu's Lamentiri (Add 2 to the casting role of deepwood lore spells, and 1 to every other.)

So how's Empire... or well... "Freeguild", these days?

Also, while there's a lively model resale scene around where I live in, it seems no-one ever sells their Empire stuff. Is there something just so loyalty-inspiring about huge pants, codpieces and mustachios?
>>
>>53249782
They are actually pretty decent. When taken in their battalion and with the general on horse, they have some really potent shooting. Reecius took them to Adepticon and did rather well.
>>
>>53249649
If you put the warboss close enough to an unity of spearmen those 40ish attacks 4+/2+/-/1 with double damage on a 4+ are gonna be quite scary.

Especially against a big monster unit.

Given that they survive the encounter...

>>53249866
Anything that can get at least 24" 4+/3+ -1 1 damage shooting at 15 points per shot or better is going to be aces at tournaments. That means bring 4 cannons.

I read a bit on the buggers and now I'm just mystified. With a general around, you'll gladly have louts of handgunners firing at 16 2+ 2+ - 1, up to three units per general. And that marksman with 30" range, damage 2 firing at +1 +2?

Units always fail hit and wound rolls of 1 so 2+/2+ is the max, but yes handgunners can get there if they don't move with buffs.
