So I am taking my new Tasigur to edh tonight. It was originally Mogis with lots of pain effects then it turned into nekusar adding control and wheel effects. that became Dralnu control but the deck was too slow and had few anwsers to enchantments so I turned it into tasigur. has this happened to anyone else? the slow shift from one deck to something completely different?

I'd swap Banishing Light for Cast Out or Darksteel Mutation depending on your meta.

Some cards you might like that are budget:
- Aetherflux Reservoir
- Archangel of Tithes
- Authority of the Consuls
- Black Sun's Zenith
- Divinity of Pride
- Felidar Sovereign (depending on how cheeky you wanna be)
- Karlov of the Ghost Council
- Kothophed, Soul Hoarder
- Ob Nixilis, Unshackled
- Polluted Bomb
- Souls of the Faultless
- Sword of the Animist
- Terminus
- Tymna the Weaver

Those are just off the top of my head and high on his EDHREC page. All but one are under $5 I believe.

>>
>>53149072
Selvala + Paradox engine Storm is insane. Love killing ppl with Aetherflux.
>>
>>53149755
It's my favourite win condition in the deck by far. Trostani is very good at generating huge amounts of life but actually winning can be hard if there are too many wraths going around. And Felidar Sovereign, Resistence and Stormfront require a turn after you cast them to win the game.

Aetherflux either win you the game instantly as it resolves or put the game into a mexican standoff situation where no one player can do anything to you without you being able to kill them in response.

Artifacts+Engine are just one wincon, but they also help me ramp into the others. There's nothing sweeter than putting a Whir on top with Brainstorm or Rack and double casting it to grab Paradox Engine and Gilded Lotus. The most common win I find myself going for is Paradox Engine and Capsize, but a fat Mizzix's Mastery fueled by Dack and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy with Bone Wand on the field works just as well. I'm playing enough library manipulation and every fetch I can so I can usually shuffle away cards on top I don't need.
Excuse the potato picture, packed up my desk lamp for moving so the light is awful.

deck dot tk/1QZI6JAa

Have played 3 rounds online already and haven't lost yet. Shit is dirty. Also two people have rage quit immediately following their losses. The salt is real. I've won with Akiri commander damage each game.

Having Tamiyo's Journal out with Akiri is fucking silly.
>>
>>53150701
>Pros
-Sac gets around indestructible effects
-Easy to reanimate or Feldon into play
-3/3 body can polish off the game if your opponent doesn't recover
-Leaves the rest of the board, so your Crucible lives
>Cons
-Leaves 3 lands
-3 lands is enough to cast spells under Trinisphere
-Harder to break symmetry than just making your lands indestructible
-Leaves the rest of the board, your opponents Crucible lives
>>
>>53149222
Add Wound Reflection. With that down, Kambal is a fucking beast. Combined with Gray Merchant of Asphodel, you can off the whole table at once.

So, who else would be likely 10k+ richer if he didn't open his deck?

A friend of mine was a thief and stole every magic card pack in the city, then gave them to me because he was caught once and couldn't keep them at his home

This was in 1994, so mostly alpha and beta, a few hundred packs worth. I traded a lotus for a bunch of stompies. Including leviathan

T1 plains, mana crypt, sol ring, mox opal, chrome mox (plus exiled card) plus felidar is a perfect 7 card hand in a singleton format. What are the odds? Plus you can still counter it with a T1 StP or Path so even then it isn't invincible like deadeye palinchron.

Because a lot of value-oriented control commanders fit the first category. Keranos, Wrexial, Sakashima, Kambal, Erebos, WR Avacyn, Tasigur, etc.

Uril doesn't need greaves.

But Dromoka is great due to the city of solitude effect.
They won't be killing your commander on your turn, so you can untap with your commander, turn her into a OHKO monster and go to town without interruption, or just slap down greaves and equip it without worrying about it getting sworded in response.

Silumgar and Okutai are dudes.

Of course, In Tarkir dragons are literally born from a magical storm and don't even lay eggs or anything, so I am not sure why there would be a difference...

Help a newb out, /edh/

What is a good deck breakdown for card functions? Specifically, how many lands/mana rocks/single target removal/board wipes/deck strategy/wincons, generally, is a good ratio? I don't need exact numbers, just an idea of what I'm aiming for. B/G commander if that helps.

you generally want 38-40 lands max then whatever amount of manarocks is appropriate for your ramp. Green has plenty of mana dorks to help you cast so that should give you an idea.

If you still aren't privy to removal and counters then you should probably do more research out of this thread because the sheer amount of counters, removal, etc. in any numerous amount of situations is nearly limitless.

Serras sanctum and cabal coffers are allowed even though the permanents they scale with are even more protected because you normally cant shit out 6 lands/enchantments in one turn

Been trying to get some help with my shitty Atraxa list to make it more fun and give it some more direction as well.

It works most of the time but is often inconsistent and clogs up a bit. Also always plays the same every game and I feel like there's a lot of stuff I could do to make things more interesting.

>>
>>53154764
that deck worked a lot better for me when i ran it under zedruu instead. the daxos problem is that he needs to be out before you start getting value out of playing your enchantments, but zedruu can come down whenever you've got the mana and turn your dead oblivion rings or whatever into card draw. also, blue.

eh, i just took the mana base out and built it into combo teysa. that deck was a lot more on the power level of my group.

>>
>>53154738
>>53154764
The problem with Daxos is that his effect doesn't even fit in an enchantress deck. He gives you the ability to create tokens... ok, why would I want that? It's not like you gain tokens whenever you cast an enchantment, like Sigil of the Empty Throne. THAT would actually be a good effect. No, instead you have to pay for your tokens, your enchantments only make the bigger.
You're unironically better off running Kambal, who has an enchantment-like effect, at the helm of your BW enchantress deck.

>>
>>53155042
atraxa is a bit of a trap, but breya and yidris are incredible. was the guy who shilled out trying to play saskia or something?
>>
>>53155042
Seems like you're playing with people who think that "I have 4 colors" means "My deck should be 1/4 of each," instead of "My deck should be 1/3 of one color, 1/4 of two others, and 1/6th of the last." Proportions, are, of course, not accurate.
Blue is the best color, which is why Saskia is the worst of the 5.
>>
>>53154018
The starting base of a roughly assembled deck I normally aim for 45 mana source and less than 3.4 average cmc. I don't count ramp spells higher than 4 in this figure. Closer to 3.4 I up the mana sources. Not much MLD in my meta so I am normally light on rocks compared to average decks. I'm around 4ish rocks, average for a solid deck is probably closer to 6 or 7.

Depending on color combo I aim for roughly a combo of removal that meets the following criteria:
- 7 can hit creatures
- 5 can hit enchantments/artifacts
- 3 can hit lands
- 2 can hit GY
- 3 can wipe the board of creatures

I do not count counters in this list but I do count bounce.

I try to get 4 or 5 continuous sources of draw, preferably 5 or less if my Commander doesn't draw. More if I'm in blue.

Wincons is completely up in the air and you need to goldfish that shit. More tutors can mean lighter on all the aforementioned numbers (though you really don't wanna be tutoring for lands so I'd skimp on ramp last). If you weren't golgari I'd probably recommend 2 or 3 sources of restore effects but you'll likely be abusing your yard so it doesn't matter here.

These figures are tuned for my meta so don't treat them as gospel. Tune for your meta and goldfish, goldfish, goldfish to see what you can do with the deck the first couple turns.
>>
>>53155062
Heh, it was Atraxa in fact. I've seen the others flop around similarly. Now that you mention it though, Breya is the only one I've seen put up a real fight.

I don't know where to start, but my immediate cuts would be:
>Prismatic Omen
Does nothing in a 2 color deck.
>Primeval Bounty
6 mana do nothing unless you have more cards, and 2 of the 3 options will cost mana, so you probably won't be doing it that turn with a 3.26 average cmc

>>53155887

thanks for suggestions guys

im not surprised you suggested prismatic omen but its been very helpful since a lot of cards have double colored pips and sometimes ill have a turn where i have plenty of total mana but not quite enough white mana for instance

ill think about that one, its also really nice to have cheap enchantments that arent situational, like i can cast them any time for decent value

i get it though, 2 colors, seems weird to run a 5 color staple

as far as the planeswalkers go, im definitely thinking ill cut ally of zendikar because a lot of times just having bodies in play doesnt help in my meta when people are trying to combo off

im not interested in cutting down to only 1 or 2 walkers though, in testing, the walkers are very important to the deck, because they are continuous value that doesnt die to board wipes
>>
>Guy plays Geist and puts 3 enchantments on him, hits me for 15 on turn 4.
>Turn 5 he goes to put an enchantment on it that would give it infect, which would end the game, and I flash a board wipe in response.
>My turn I kill all of his lands and swing in with my 6/3 Akiri
>He complains that I'm not playing "Casual EDH".

This shit has to stop.
>>
>>53156013

yeah i've been thinking about cutting nevermore, but on the other hand, its really fuckin annoying to go off and play my whole deck only to be dead to cyc rift

everybody so far has suggested cutting primeval bounty and my only argument against cutting it is that its a pet card, so that ones probably going

i guess youre right that i have other cards that do what nissa does, but damn she makes A LOT of mana usually. i could see myself cutting her if i was also cutting dawn's reflection, and just give up slightly on the untap land for massive mana theme
>>
>>53156146
At this point "Casual EDH" means "letting me win".

Come in with a different deck and explain how you didn't know how everyone else played, and thought it'd get countered - basically everything getting off the wrong foot. If they still don't accept that, fuck them, go full Bolas control and fuck them all.

i mean, pretty much all of my decks are casual anyway. the deck i played was a hapatra list i just threw together, and both devoted druid and quillspike are cards that would go in there anyway. the combo was a (mostly) unintentional include in the deck.

Anon please.
>>
>>53154018
Ultimately, the decisions are up to you, but here's how I approach it:
1. You've got 99 cards to deal with. A 33/66 division is roughly one land per two spells (most everyone would say this isn't enough, but consider that I'm not counting nonland mana sources into that tally).

Consider your curve. Where are:
Your first and second most represented CMCs
The highest 4-6 cards in terms of CMC
CMCs of your most important cards/staples/"I need to be able to play this pretty much always" cards
If your commander is important, their CMC

All these values are important. What you generally want to see:
1. Enough lands to get your VIP cards out ASAP. If your staple cards are up at 4-5 CMC, you're going to need to go way more dense on lands.
2. Enough lands to get up to your major CMC areas at reasonable speed. Ideally, whatever CMC is the most represented will have the most staples, and the second highest will have either already been hit or not be too far off from this point. This is second in hierarchical importance, however- first come staples, then come high curve points.
If your commander isn't staple to your strategy, here's where you consider their CMC, and also the larger CMCs in your deck. Make sure you can at least get to these CMCs- this is most important for people who see their most important CMCs in the 2-4 range and cut as lean as possible without accounting for X-costs or the big Timmy cards that cost 8+ mana.

Your lands are the backbone of your deck, as you will always see them. Mana rocks and ramp are secondary, but you should always have them as a portion of your lands (what colors you're in and how high you curve out affect the "how much of this" a ton). Single target removal is usually a staple, but overdoing it severely weakens your deck. Always run at least one board wipe, and sit comfortably at 2-3 on average. Deck strategy or theme should be roughly 60-80% of the deck's total cards, depending on how combo-y or goodstuff it is.
>>
>>53157618
If you don't feel like reading and want a starting point you don't need to understand/will learn to adapt with experience, try this:

36-38 lands, fill up to roughly 42-46 slots in total with lands + mana rocks + ramp + acceleration.
For every 3 cards you have on-flavor, theme, or strategy, have 1 staple such as spot removal, wipe, tutors, whatever. Do not count the aforementioned ramp into these values, do not count cards that are considered staples as staples if they directly feed your theme (i.e., reanimation in a graveyard-heavy deck). Err on the side of staples, cuts are hard but you rarely absolutely need every "on-theme" card... at least compared to needing staples.

>>
>>53158692
This, if you are getting a game of archenemy, then you need to be up to snuff to deal with it. Bitching that your decks aren't really that strong will get you nowhere. Think about it, someone kills you off turn 3 and then tries to say shit like
>Woops that was just a good draw :^)

You are not going to let up on that guy, because clearly he can win at any time with 6 lands and the right grip after a wheel. Maybe most people's decks can do that if they magical Christmasland out, but the trick is that yours did and theirs never has. Retire the deck or make it stronger, you aren't getting back what you had.
