Can we find this little guy a home? I really like the art
>>
>>53065413
I've had good success with him in my draft decks

For real though it's probably a better delver in those low spell count delver decks that probably shouldn't be playing delvers anyway.
>>
>>53065413
perhaps a grixis pyromancer shell? sort of like grxis control but lower to the ground, playing 4 pyromancers, 4 of these, some black delve threats, etc. I don't know if it would be good but it seems fun
>>
>>53064929
working on it, maybe you can help me

i dont see it in any color combo other than w/b to just shore up the fact that vehicles/creatures that work with vehicles (well) are subpar, so i can just use discard/push/path to make the deck from 'bad' to 'mediocre'

You can instantly disregard anyone removing the land destruction plan from LE. Even TWoo. Sure he made the deck but he's more into cards that make friends with each other than competitive aspects. Much love, Travis here

>playing

Currently working on a bw aristocrat deck with bone picker and the new black god but it's in a very beta stage.
>hating
Sun and moon. Not because it's annoying deck but because the guy who plays it where I play is awful. The place is super casual and small (the most we had was 15 and that's rare) so we all know each other well and are decent friends. In fact a lot of us go play commander after.
The guy who plays sun and moon takes advantage of everything. We usually give players the benefit of the doubt on things, don't check deck lists, and if someone makes a mistake like playing the wrong land or times the trigger wrong we usually let the, correct it. We also have a slightly mentally challenged guy that plays and it's an unwritten rule that he gets at least one win in the match. The sun and moon guy though preside boards, has a sideboard that's over 15 cards, and makes it so he has the perfect hand every time. The sideboard stuff he tries to hide by saying "oh I'm just making sure my sleeves are good" when he's actually putting in cards since he usually knows what everyone there plays. As for triggers if he Fucks one up he expects you to let him correct it but if you fuck up he won't give you the same courtesy. Like I played 8 rack against him and the rack deals damage at their upkeep. I forgot and mentioned it when he was drawing but he refused to take the damage since I didn't catch it right away even tho I let him correct 3 mistakes that match. He's never mulliganed but has had a leyline in opening hand every game. If you play burn he has leyline opening, chalice turn 2 and kor firewalker t3 every game without fail which shuts you down so you basically can't play. He doesn't let the autistic guy win and even makes fun of him. When the autistic guy beat him he basically slammed down his deck and stood in the corner until his next game.
>>
>>53067830
That card is terrible. Play cryptic
>>
>>53068376
Cont. We all hate him but his only friend therE is out only judge so the judge won't call him out on his shit. I'd go play somewhere else but I love everyone else there, the owner is cool, and it's really close. So now I build all decks with sun and moon hate in mind.

>spicy sideboard cards
For burn sideboard I put in ensnaring bridge and a lot of people think it's dumb but it has won me games that burn usually has a tough time against.
For grixis death shadow I have eidilon of the great revel in. It fucks up some decks and pumps up death's shadow

The most fun I've ever had playing magic was playing Legacy Worldgorger at stupidly casual FNM, playing what wight as well have been kitchen table.
Modern specifically, I would say Burn, hands down. Slamming Bolts all day long gives me a raging erection.
Recently I've been playing GB Tron with a playset of inquisitions and extractions. Its loads of fun.
I'm thinking about building Skred so I can slam stormbreath dragons like I'm playing Theros standard.
>>
>>53069246
Didn't see that coming
>>
>>53068789
My favorite deck I ran was actually one I ran by mistake. I was playing grixis deliver and wanted to put a card from my commander deck in. I think it was languish but I was in a hurry and accidentally grabbed nicol bolas the planeswalker in. I didn't realize it until I pulled him mid game. It was a grinds game and I actually was able to play him. Luckily it was a game against my friend who knew my deck and we started cracking up when he realized what happened. Ended up playing him 4 times that night and even got his ultimate off once and tied for first place.

Instead of attempting to ban out decks, instead manipulate how the deck operates to make it acceptable?

>>53067541
Actually, OP's card is from Planar Chaos, so it's a planeshifted card and not a futuresight card.
Meaning, it's the same effect as a card already created, but in a different color because it's from the alternate multiverse that touched our multiverse during the course of that block's story.
Like Red Akroma being that universe's version of our White Akroma.
>>
>>53072003
I just run circle of protection red but story circle is probably better in general

Vault seems a little hard. The Kamagawa legend lands are pretty good though.

I'm not a Living End player famalam, just noticed the lack of mentioning B&E

90% of your mana is spent as the following:
1-2 mana, mill 1 bigguy draw 1
2 mana, mill around 4 bigguys

The downside is the more you run, the less creatures you'll hit. I would try one for memes sake.

It's also interesting as a sub3cmc card and a way to build a living end deck. Having access to cheap spells that aren't Shriekmaw could be sweet.

I hate this card for what could have been. WotC flat said the White was going to get all tax based counters then they went back on it because they are a bunch of talent hacks and released a meek "Well we couldn't think of any ways to make blue counters interesting so were giving them back the tax counters"

okay, solitaire this last night and didn't work that bad.

Hi, I'm a Judge. I'm very sorry that you're having this experience. I'd suggest you talk to your store's owner first and foremost about this behavior, and what you feel is unfair partial behavior from the Judge. It's possible the owner doesn't realize there's an issue, and would rapidly correct it if their attention was called to it.

Second, if this is an actual certified Judge (instead of just 'the guy who handles the Judge stuff at the shop), I encourage you to report this shitheel behavior to their Regional Coordinator, and the Judge Conduct Committee.

As for my nigga Beleren, if your list runs Elixir he's a beast and a half. Alt wincon that ignores life total, at 3cmc, that also acts as a Mine, and is sometimes objectively better than even Dictate.

I really wanted to still run him, he's that sweet, but without Elixir he'll have a hard time getting multiple ults off.

I can post my old deck pic I used to shitpost, but it's outdated as fuck.

Also, every list needs a Gemstone Caverns imo, that greasy little land is perfect in the deck.

"Best" way is for mainboard Stomping sideboard Destructives, if you don't care too much about sideboard slots you can even sideboard the stomping ground to have that 4 helix inspiring vantage feelgoods.

There's no substitute for Reverly, card is just too bonkers, but if you don't want any green you can try a Patrician's Scorn in the sideboard along with a few War Priest of Thune (the least shitty enchantment removal I could find for R/W burn, and she's been decent)

Basically swaps 2 damage for a 2/2 and requires other slots for artifact removal too, but that's the best white has.

Colorshifted Reverly when?!?!?

I went 8-1 day one in GP Dallas. Out of 2019 people I was in 34th place above Seth Manfield. I knew day 2 it was time to rock. I went 1-4 and dropped. I didn't give up on the deck. I continued to tweak it, I even ran smuggler's copter for a while over wall of omens. Just as I was going to top 8 another super IQ, I lost my win and in to some faggot affinity player who dumped his hand turn one two games in a row. That's when I gave up. Hey, looking to build a black/green Eldrazi deck. Here's what I've got so far:

Seek the wilds
Natural Connection
Sylvan Scrying
3x Loam Larva
Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
Nissa's Renewal
Blisterpod
2x Scion Summoner
2x Grave Unbirthing
3x Carrier Thrall
3x Eyeless Watcher
2x Witness the End
2x Eldrazi Devastator
2x Scour From Existence
2x Conduit of Ruin
3x Ruin Processor
3x Complete Disregard
2x Transgress the Mind
2x Swarm Surge
Reality Smasher
Bane of Bala Ged
Grip of Desolation
Titan's Desolation
Sifter of Skulls
Corpse Churn
Oblivion Strike
Birthing Hulk

And I've got Ceaseless Ulamog on the way. This deck is mostly a labour of love cuz I think the Eldrazi are cool as shit. I need advice on any weaknesses/holes in the deck, plus on what lands to take. I've got 2 Mortuary Mires, a Fertile Thicket, an Evolving Wilds, an Unknown Shores and a Shrine to the forsaken gods. I've included Nissa and the Loam Larvas to help get lands out. Are there any other lands I should take? Should I include all of these or just a few.

First of all this is the wrong thread to be asking about this. Modern is a specific competitive format of mtg, not a time frame. If you want specific card choices go to the "kitchen table mtg" thread. But I will give you some general deck building advice, just so you can't say Modern general never did anything for you the next time you stumble in here with a casual shitbrew you want advice on.

When building a deck you need to keep a gameplan in mind: Curve out hard, ramp into your big dumb beaters, flood the board, kill all of their shit and stall the game, etc. If you just pile a bunch of cards you like together you're going to get crap. Consistency is king, identify your best cards to achieve your gameplan and play 4 of them, none of this piddly 2 of this and 2 of that shit. Look at decks other players have made, if you think this is cheating somehow or think that makes you "netdecking scum" then fuck off, no one got good at deckbuilding by refusing to look at other peoples' decks. Plus looking at decks in your colors helps you identify good cards in your colors, if a bunch of players run it then it must be doing something right. Finally, a point about card selection, if your vanilla beater isn't a 1 mana 12/12 turn 4 or a 2 mana 4/5 turn 3, then it's probably a shit card and you should include another creature with an effect, preferably one that doesn't require it having to survive an entire turn to get value off of.

I've seen deck recipes in Modern costiong from $200 to $2000. $2000 seems utterly absurd but I could handle buying the lower cost decks.

Could I stay competitive in Modern if I set aside like $1000 a year for cards? Or is that not enough?
>>
>>53093976
If you pick a deck that won't get banned you can build it once and then just add to it as cards come out/expand it as the metagame evolves. Once you've bought the initial deck maintaining it is relatively cheap (unless they do something likeprint Voice of Resurgence)

Does anyone else wish that WotC would add a few more good mill cards to help make it more competitive? As it is, I still think it's an underrated strategy (not that it's top-tier); you can get lucky with mill + surgical extraction and extirpate to get rid of some of your opponent's critical cards.

22 lands is slightly too few, especially when 10 of them have a 'sacrifice this land' ability. This list wants 23-24.

SoX&Y are medium at best. These should probably be Smug Copters or Honor the Pure.

Maindeck Mindcensor is bad. These should probably be Serra Avengers or Blade Splicers, depending on if you're running Honor the Pure or Copters.

Judge's Familiar is EXTRA medium. These should 100% be Thraben Inspectors unless you're walking into a Storm meta, which you'd want Dryad Militants for.

Sunlance is literally retarded. Seriously, 4? At least play Condemn.

What's the best way to beat Eldrazi Tron? Seems like they're not as vulnerable to mana disruption as traditional Tron lists.
>>
>>53096089
I don't understand why this is still a top deck.
It seems so bad every time I play against it.

They don't find tron half the time and when they do it doesn't even seem to matter. Oh no, an endbringer or another smasher you could already afford.
Bant eldrazi and traditional tron are much better decks imo. The only thing this deck seems to stand on is chalice of the void.

That being said, mana denial and a fast clock is still key. They pretty much can't beat ensnaring bridge without ballista. Pithing Needle is great if you can find ways to deal with the other eldrazi like tks and smashers

Could Cast Out be decent in Abzan?

I can kinda see it as an alternative to Mishra's Bauble in Grim Flayer variants. Sure, it's not as good as Bauble turns 1-3, but turn 4 or later topdecking this could literally save you the game, where a late game Bauble is a liability.
>>
>>53096854
Also, being an Enchantment rather than an Artifact is usually going to be an upgrade for your Goyfs, since you're much more likely to be putting opposing Artifacts to the grave than opposing Enchantments.
>>
>>53095453
I mean, the guy went 5-0 with the list and what a world we live in when Thraben inspector is played over judge's familiar.
>>
>>53097247
>judge's familiar
Well that card sucks
>>
>>53097363
For what the deck is doing I feel it's a better card than Thraben inspector which basically read "pay 2 And draw card and skip your turn".
>>
>>53097694
You don't have to crack the clue immediately, and Inspector has synergy with things that care about artifacts, whereas Judge's Familiar is a 1/1 flying force spike for instants and sorceries only.
>>
I have been tasked with collecting the boosters for our yearly draft event for our convention in June. Which sets would work best right now? We traditionally have decent draw regardless of set, but id like some opinions so i don't pick something retarded and piss off our attendees.

I might just do an Amonkhet draft. Kaladesh/Aether Revolt were zero-removal trash, while Eldritch Moon was on par with Dark Ascension for boring.
SOI might be okay otherwise.
>>
>>53098063
>Kaladesh/Aether Revolt were zero-removal trash
what do you think amonkhet is
>>
>>53098109
The current release.
Whereas Kaladesh/Revolt forces people back to an awful set.

It's a matter of perception. Amonkhet is the typical draft format right now. It is average. There is nothing positive or negative about doing Amonkhet.

The last good block was Tarkir. Everything since then was mediocre to trash. If we're stuck picking from trash, why not pick the inoffensive trash?

How many times have you gone 5-0 with your list huh? This is competitive discussion and results are the best evidence of what's competitive.

G/R has the best sweepers, G/W has path so it's better in the mirror, and G/B has hand disruption and solid removal. Pretty much the only major difference between the 3 Gx variants.

Utron is a control deck; you're looking to stop them early game with typical modern counterspells and eventually use your overwhelming mana advantage to win via mindslaver lock, wurmcoil, ulamog, or whatever else you're running.

Eldrazitron is a colorless midrange deck that runs the tronlands because it doesn't really have anything better to run in those slots. Because it's also using temples to ramp, it's the most resilient to land destruction as it doesn't need tron to go off.
>>
>>53101111
Bolas isn't even a very good card. Karn and ugin are much stronger

Wizards has done so much to make this game less fun.

U Tron is similar to classic Control.
Gx plays more like Midrange, where you want to jam big stuff until you win.
>>
dumb question

making a mill deck.
how do I deal with eldrazi/cards that shuffle graveyards into libraries.

Can I exile during the trigger?
>>
>>53102556
If Emrakul is shuffling the graveyard back into the library, how do you plan on exiling it?
>>
>>53102556
You can exile it from the graveyard in response to the shuffle trigger but the graveyard still gets shuffled even if the Eldrazi is gone.

Also, not to discourage you, but mill doesn't work. Its cards are not efficient enough nor are there enough of them. You're just spending money on a deck that can't hack it even casually. The only way Mill works is when it's put into a control shell as a win condition and in that case you're still better off using a better win condition.
>>
>>53102556
>Emmy trigger on the stack

That's the worst """"lantern"""" list I've ever seen and you should actually look into what a real list looks like instead of some Tezztron shitbrew.

Lantern is good because it attacks from a unique angle that's difficult for a lot of decks to interact with and it rewards player knowledge and experience in all of it's matchups. It's a very operator dependent deck and can be difficult to hate out.

For what an actual list looks like I'd recommend checking out any of these lists

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-lantern-control-27351#paper
>>
>>53099336
That's not me(the guy who posted the list) but hatebears/dnt metashare is on the rise and is placing more. I'm not saying the deck is as consistent DSJ but it's far from shitty.

>Wow I now have to make decisions instead of having an objectively correct play of 'do both' now?

Go fuck yourself. It's bad enough that cards aren't being made with proper downsides anymore, but defending damage on the stack just proves you don't want to have to make situational value judgments.
>>
>>53102981
>lanternfags actually believe this
Is there a land on top of their deck? No? Well let's mill until there is!
>>
>>53103507
It's about playing when you don't have a complete lock you mong. Pro tip: We don't start with all of our lock pieces in hand or on the board.

2/10 I replied
>>
>>53101646
BG Elves is really the only way to play. You could shove white in there for sideboard options, but that's about it.
>>
>>53102981
I don't understand. What's the win condition? Codex shredder?
>>
>>53103615
The win condition is codex shredder or waiting for your opponent to scoop once the lock is in place
>>
>>53103615
With Lantern, the idea is you lock your opponent out of drawing anything useful by using a combination of your 8 mill rocks in the deck + Lantern of insight. This coupled with ensnaring bridge to turn of creature strategies can seal games, but sometimes you need cards like pithing needle and surgical to do that.

The wincon is mill mill but it often never comes to that because once you've got a lock of 3+ mill rocks and bridge it's all but over. it's much better than a confused amalgam of Tron, Tezzerator and Lantern like the link that was posted.

so, a long ass fucking time ago I played casual MTG. A friend I met at work got me back into it a few weeks ago, and last night let me borrow his burn deck for my first modern experience. Had a blast even though I did poorly.

Back in ~2009, the last time I played magic, I had a blue/black/white artifact deck that relied heavily on the card trinket mage and being able to grab a few utility artifacts in each game. is there anything similar in modern? I'm aware of the format's absurd price tag, but the store had 20+ people playing so it seems like something I'll get a lot of enjoyment out of, I don't mind dropping upwards of 1000 for a solid deck.

If you want, you can try to mill your opponent in one shot.
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/instant-deck-tech-wall-mill-modern

I prefer to call it "Phenax's Labyrinth" because the walls corner the opponent into a dead end of delirium.

Looks pretty sweet Anon. Devo is flexible in many ways and has a lot of room for fun cards. I'm not going the CoCo route (instead running a playset of Primals and a Genesis Wave) but it's a fine strat alongside the Knights.

I went pure U/G, no white for Knight or Red for Wolfrun, and I run Garruks and Kioras.

Garruk is a beast in the deck (turn 2 Garruk with Arbor/Sprawl), but if you don't care for him Kiora does an almost identical job, and playing both on turn 2 followed by a 3drop usually gets people to concede
