This has been a hilariously confusing time to decide I want to get into 40k.
I only kinda understood 7E's rules, and I have a feeling that almost-understanding is making it more difficult for me to get the reveals they've been going through.
Doesn't help that it's *kinda* like AoS, except when it isn't.
Not saying I don't like it, saying that I'm basically forced to wait until the book actually comes out before I can have an opinion on these rules.
(Which I guess gives me a leg-up on people creating their opinions based on teasers...)

Combat is terrifying now. Gunlines are in trouble now by being close. Dedicated melee units are going to do serious damage.

Well my 1st army was half of a starter box, so I didn't have a whole lot of choice as to my first models I ever had. But after that, just pick a single unit/box of models you like, and build your force around that. I really liked fire warriors and devilfish, so I got them, and now I have a pretty decent Tau force build around my favorite dudes

Well, my first army was Tyranids, since I fell in love with one of the homebrew hivefleets from 1d4chan. After I basically stole from that and got a sizable army of fire-breathing monsters though, I moved on to others.

Tau I started up because I really like their focus on teamwork and cooperation. After that, I pretty much shifted all of my attention to a Slaanesh Chaos marine army, since I really like the sheer variety of modeling and conversion opportunities there are to do weird stuff with them.

Go with aesthetic and fluff Anon. With 8E everything will have new profiles, rules and role. I was thinking about getting into 40k with Tau during 7e but dropped it when first 8e teases showed around. I started playing AoS so now I'm thinking about Nurgle so I can play both games with one army.

Theory: We won't just be getting numarines but also nuchaosmarines. Space Marines with their prickly and temperamental pride will have some turn to chaos at the arrival of the numarines and threats of being made irrelevant.

Safe choice is bits and pieces or some no name invented chapter.
More major choice would be see one of the existing chapters turn to chaos.
Highly unlikely will be a major named chapter turning to chaos.


Could also be used to justify the addition of some of the new post horus heresy gear to CSM. While it wouldn't be believable that a single chapter could supply anything of volume we're also told plasma is quite rare but it abounds.

My big issue (at least with Ahriman) is he has a huge maroon cape (including popped collar) with metal details that the backpack & arms cover.

My painting isn't terribly steady either so it helps me get to some tight areas which I'd fuck up while painting.

I don't like playing the orks myself (Except in EC where it can be fun to jump on and just be a stupid fucking Ork.) but they are one of GW's best race designs by far. I only do the vidya but I like the guard because of their military aesthetic, their playstyle. The tau because of their high tech aesthetic, playstyle and battlesuits. It's hardest for me to really figure out a single all-consuming favorite CSM or LSM though. Like my favorite Primarch will be magnus (and Vulkan) but I like the siege mentality of the Iron warriors or fistos but I like the look of the black templars yet dislike their playstyle while the Salamander's pyromania doesn't work for me.

4chinz thought I was spamming and freaked out so I posted blind.

So as an Eldar player, I'm glad to report I got completely kerbstomped today. Admech/Skittles vs my Eldar, 1000pts. I play an unoptimised aspect heavy list, and he took a fairly optimised Admech list. He took the troop guys with t5 and grav weapons, the tank with s10 ap1 template, doctrinea and cards, the whole works.

I killed one model the entire game, and that was with my vypers. Admittedly I was rolling terribly and he was rolling great, but it was nice to be kerbstomped for once. Hype as fuck for 8'th, hopefully it's going to balance everything out. As a sidenote, is taking Cawl at 1k considered a dick move? He's insanely hard to kiill and has excellent shooting/melee. I didn't complain because I play Eldar, but he seemed a little bit broken for his points. And no, I don't have a WK or consider them fair. The only op units I had were 1 unit of 3 scatbikes and a single Hornet. I'm sick of getting shit just for playing Eldar, I love their japanese/celtic fluff and just want to have fun games with them

If you are genuinely asking. Just undercoat spray your army in black, paint the armor grey and then do the flesh / metal detail.

Hell you could just dry brush them and then pick out any details, which would likely provide quicker and better results.

Either that or buy another base coat color which you intend to use as the primary uniform shade.

I was actually thinking earlier today that you might see a kind of soft squatting where genestealer cult is given more emphasis and material while the nids are given less. Perhaps even some kind of retcon that elevates the authority of genestealers vis-a-vis the hivemind, since with genestealers you can do more fluff and storytelling than with mindless eating things. Basically have the nids get the same treatment the crons got to give them more personality.

It probably won't end with the nids being truly removed as an army list since despite the love of sky-is-squatting we've seen more armies being added, not less. But I can fully believe that you'll see the genestealers getting more/all the attention and nids being left to float behind them.

It's a meme but I think we use it more to refer to soft-squatting because referring to an army being neglected, forgotten and rarely ever updated is more fun as 'squatted' than 'sister-of-battled' or "brettonnia'd".

Also the willingness to pseudo-squat everything in warhammer fantasy does suggest some factions on the periphery are not truly 100% safe. That being said soft squatting or SOB-ing seems far more likely given the hostile PR retiring an army would earn.
