Anyone here have experience building a Magic: the Gathering battle box / wizard's tower?

Basically

>shared deck of ~200+ cards
>no lands in deck; instead, each player has 1 of each basic land and 5 allied guildgates in a command zone and may play one to the battlefield each turn (acts for all intents and purposes as playing a land from hand)
>start with four cards, no mulligans, max hand size still 7

I rarely have more than 1 other person to play Magic with, and while we've enjoyed playing Pauper against one another I'm looking for something with more variance.

not really, but my friend and I used to jokingly play a format where we'd pick up a stack of nonland cards and draw from it the way you do with wizard's tower. for your land drop, you could put a card from your hand facedown and it counts as any color. totally retarded format but it was fun between matches and what not

if you like battle boxes you might enjoy building a cube.
>>
I've played Wizard's Tower with a proxy powered cube

It was stupid but fun

Sounds fun, but I guess you'd need strong/expensive cards to make it really good. Pauper Commander might be another option for you.
>>
I've done it, it was fun, but rarely got played as we usually did either my 15 Card Highlander cube, or if there were more than two players, went straight into Type 4.

If you don't want to spend as much time as a Cube takes to build, it's a good choice.

I just put mine together, super fucking fun, and can double as a dumb bomb cube when we have lots of people. Got my regulars to chip in for sleeves and they shelled out for like five hundred dragonsleeves

I'll post pics in a sec

>bomb cube
bleh, please learn how to build a real cube. A pile of your favorite cards does not a cube make

You sound like a fun guy to play with
