My friends will spend 3 weeks pitching outlandish character ideas that aren't even from the same damn system We're talking shit like were-ferrets in D&D, and vampire drow in shadowrun tier, and these are the ones I haven't purged from my mind if I say non core, and we haven't even gotten past sesson 5 of ANY campaign.

However as DM it's easier to keep track of content from core only. In the case of 3.PF, non-core includes a sprawling alien vista of crazyness of varying quality. Not to mention varying tone, the DM has an idea of the kind of campaign they are ready to run and bloodbending, tattoo-powered catfolk might not be part of it.

The 6th level spell guys tend too be pretty balanced and in high sorcery world make the most sense as adventurers. They usually have enough skills that everyone can do something out of combat, enough HP, attack and gear selection to fight and a repetior of magic tricks that is useful but not overwhelming. Plus they have the capacity to specialise in whatever they like most without turning themselves into over specialised autists.

This means party members can still fulfil particular roles but it keeps the core element of decision making alive by never completely locking actions behind number walls. It gives characters reason to deviate from a single rote strategy, or if they already have one it doesn't destroy them to have it broken up.
