How could you justify a traditional party in 40k with different races? Like, say a Space Marine, an Eldar, and an Ork got stranded together on a planet. What threat could cause them to not just kill each other immediately and actually work together?

>What threat could cause them to not just kill each other immediately and actually work together?
Chaos, Necrons, Tyranids.

Those are the big three villains that you could unite SM, Eldar, and Orks, if only for a short time.
>>
>>52974186
Temporary alliances are a thing. Heck, Rowboat has been hanging around with eldar for a while now. As far as a common enemy, probably chaos is your best bet. The ork would be the most difficult to rationalize, I think, because they really don't care about who they're fighting the majority of the time. You'd need Yarrick-level badassery to get them to respect you enough not to immediately try and kill you.
>>
>>52974220
Thats not true at all. Rogue Trader has tons of crews with Ork mercenaries onboard them, they're a staple of the genre. If anything the Ork is the EASIEST to justify because they are murderhobos by default.

Hell, the Space Marine could probably easily wrangle him supposing he was taller then the Ork was.
>>
>>52974186
Easy, have some frustrated water caste tau tearing out their non-existent hair just trying to keep everyone from killing each other.
>>
Scratch that, what class would each of the races be?

They don't, eldar would rather die than co operate with chaos marine, orks practicaly don't stop fighting with anybody. Replace CSM and ork with loyalist marine and tau/harlequin/dark eldar and it could happen.
>>
>>52974186
Dark Eldar have the Eldar, Kroot, and SM subdued in their slave arena. They will all be tormented for she who thirsts until their souls are completely flayed. They are all "naked" ( no power armor, no wrathbone).
>>
>>52976979
most Orks would be barbarian not fighter

WAAAAGH is almost literally barbarian rage
>>
>>52974220
>>52977267
But that's wrong you fucking retard.

Orks can get along with other races just fine.

The trick is to be bigger and stronger than the Orc. Show him whos DA BOSS.
>>
>>52974186
Ork could be a mercenary but I don't see the Chaos SM getting along with the Eldar in any circumstance

Eldar and Orks working together makes some sense actually given that they were both made by the Old Ones
>>
>>52977507
It only works if you live in WHFB or AoS.
>>
>>52977551
But again...that's wrong. Ork mercenaries are a thing.

Don't mind me I'm just an orks Freebooter

While true it is almost universally known that the orks WILL turn on you as soon as they think it will be fun. Often using the very guns you bribed them with.

Why you just let the Orks do their own thing when you hire them. They can't kill you if you're not there to be killed!
Or bribe them with a fancy hat.
>>

Human bounty hunter, Ork mekboy merc, questing marine errant, Eldar trying to stop a terrible prophesy. Lost Tau, possibly farsight enclave.
Maybe a necron exile?

The ship belongs to the Ork mekboy, his Boyz are all dead. He hires it to the human bounty hunter, who is travelling with the Eldar because she needs all the help she can get to stop the coming event. Along the way they stop at space stations on the fringe and while plying the cantina for info on their target, they find that a cloaked stranger has been asking the same questions. It's the marine.
While talking to the marine, a local gang/terrorist group attacks the bar for a shakeup and the PCs must fight to survive.
The Tau contributes and saves the marines hide from a close range plasma pistol attack, blasting the assailant's arm off.
The bounty hunter looks the pistol before they leave with the Tau in tow. He was stranded there and will work for transport back to place.

No, warrior, or that shitty class that only exists to be a worst version of the fighter which is already a low-tier class.

I'd follow my old game idea and abandon the bullshit of the setting to have a lone Sister of Battle sent out to discover why they never get called to fights, only for her to accidentally discovery the meta, get hunted by Sister-hungry Grey Knights, and team up with a Squat, Ork, a very terrified Imperial Guard, and a Tyranid who replaced a Chaos Marine's head in his armor.

Impending Nids.
Eldar meddling leads SM's and Orks to planet.
Shadow of the Warp/bad luck destroy WW gates.
Not as planned.
"Elite force" must infiltrate hive ship while armies hold the line.

Or

Warp is swallowing planet Crapsack.
Planet Crapsack holds Eldar relic (Pristine Seer Socks).
Eldar contact local =][= survivors, "help us get the socks and we'll let you escape through the WW."
=][= sends remaining Deathwatch.
DW Capt. knows a guy who knows a Freebootah band.
Hilarity ensues.

Or

Huge Space Hulk emerges from warp.
Onboard are 3 survivors previously lost in time from previous missions to the hulk.

SM Tech Marine who has a freezer full of gene seed to deliver from a believed lost Chapter. Needs power source to keep freezer running.

Autarch and her wheelbarrow full of soulstones belonging to her craftworld (Cw was destroyed by nids, was made part of the hulk, and they're nesting on the intact infinity circuit). Needs aid securing the infinity circuit.

Kommando Boss who's pretty sure his second in command nicked his rokk when he went to piss and fell into the warp. Needs gubbins, escape route, can't kill daemons.

DEldar Gladiatrix who just wants to get the FUCK out of here!...while also maybe keistering a few soulstones. For good luck. Unf. (wasn't originally on the hulk, decided it was good place for a pirate elf blood orgy and was stranded when fuckbuddy got et). Needs space cocaine cut with powdered baby. And steady supply of dead things to provide life energy.

Universe's unluckiest Tau private who's ship just hit the fucking hulk by accident. OH AUN, IT BURNS!

Nids, nids everywhere.
Also malfunctioning Crons.
Also Nurgle Daemons.
Also everything bad.
Plan is to fight and hide while the hulk drifts out of dark space. Secure Inf. Circuit as power source for base. Repair Tau ship. Find supplies. Get phat gubbins. Fuck with snooty craftworlder and steal soulstones. NOT DIE WITH THESE LUNATICS!

Orks make easy alliances. So long as there is something better to fight, Orks are probably actually pretty close to friendly. Plus, Orks love loot, so if you say that they get ALL of the wreckage of the fight (Not like you want much anyways), and offer the boss a really nice chunk of metal, you can get them fighting other people for as long as there are other people to fight. Long-term alliances might be tricky, but conceivably 1 Ork would be perfectly content not trying to kill a few people so long as they were usually going to fight someone else, and they forgave the occasional punch to the jaw.
A crafty Terminator or Dreadnaught could probably convince some Orks that they were da boss if so inclined.
Eldar honestly also make convenient alliances, since all you need to do to fluff it is say there is a prophecy somewhere that says X Eldar must work with Y Mon' Keigh, Ork, or whatever, and bam. Unwavering ally.
Dark Eldar are honestly like Orks, except they like loot more than hitting things.
Guardsmen are easy, they just want to boost that survival rating another 0.1%. If an Ork wants to fight the other guy more, why would they say no?
Space Marines are tricky. Most chapters are very unreasonable, and even the more reasonable chapters would probably only agree to a ceasefire until the other, more pressing threat is dead. A chapter like the Salamanders would probably be the most likely to do this.
The rest of the Imperium have their particular trigger-factions, but otherwise could probably be reasoned with similarly to the more reasonable Space Marine chapters. The Adeptus Mechanicus can also be bribed.
Khorne flavored Chaos is pretty compatible with Orks. Tzeentchian flavored Chaos could reasonably assist anyone, though whether this assistance is appreciated may vary.
Tau are generally agreeable.
Tyranids do not get along with anyone, and are the best bet for getting others to work together.
>>
>>52974186
Imagine for a moment that the Adeptus Mechanicus stumbles upon a bunch of Mekboyz, and maybe a Big Mek. Maybe some looters.
Imagine for a moment that someone in that party was truly fascinated in getting the Mek's to build some impossible things and take notes.
Imagine for a moment that these people don't shoot the Meks, but instead offer them the opportunity to be shuttled away to a place full of more loot and bitz than they had ever seen before in their lives.
Imagine that the Meks and looters agreed.
I want to see this continue.

>>52976979

Ork would be Barbarian, while IG would be dex fighter.

>Though getting them to listen to you is the tricky part.
That's why you have to fins their boss, and 'eadbutt 'im REEEL gud, that tends to get their attention, then you wait for them to finish laughing at hims and kicking him while e's down, then 'eadbutt the up-and-coming lads and you might have found yourself some mercenaries.

You'll of course have to give them a fresh beating if times get lean, boring or if they start to seem like they're fitting in too well.
