My main HQ is an Archmagos (called Xander, after Gilbert Alexander from Bioshock) who led his Biologis fleet to dig in and set up their own fortified Forge System during the Heresy. He loaded his mind into his fleet's flagship cogitators, and downloads it into a new body whenever he needs to do shit. If he "dies", he's still cool, but he loses the data he had on the body, hence the "still losing Slay The Warlord" thing. However, as he is a pisspoor fighter, he dies a LOT, and his code degenerates a little every time. He's still entirely functional, but occasionally he'll do something completely off the wall for no apparent reason.

Eventually, he realizes this at the close of the Schism of Mars, and partitions the sections of his mind that are still functional off into the ship. Those are mostly the engineering, surgery and command sections as he kept those updated, but he loses all his memories, so he's a disembodied mind who controls his subordinates and uses their memories, but they gain his frankly insane capabilities and mental capacity. The raving madman who declared himself Damnatio Ad Gladium after the Heresy and led his Taghmata against the Dark Mechanicum during the Scouring, finally being killed by House Atrax storming Cyclotrathe is an ENTIRELY unrelated individual, and not at all his last body and thousands of years of memories without an actual mind as such driven by the last commands of the sentient Xander before his ascendance.

In 30k, he uses the Inar Satarael rules, and I'm working on a model for him with a spider-mech body from the old metal LoTR Spider Queen, with Kataphron armour plates and weapons. In 40k, he's whatever model happens to be the Warlord at the time, because Symbiote Consciousness.

The warband is more complex, having been built back when KSons had... well very little.
The sorceror is a big eugenics nut, treating his Raptors as "failed progeny", usually second or third generation warp-weak, and most of their armor painted black, whilst units like havoks are the talentless spawn of sorcerors which still might have potential in their geneseed, and so only have a single black shoulder-pad to denote their inferior status.

Mutants are just rubricked, and he's constantly trying to capture or bargain for pure psyker geneseed to throw into the pool.
Why a "fenris obsessed" HQ decides to traipse around doing genetic tests on his warband... well that's a plot hole I never reallly filled.

IG trucks when

I've heard they have them for logistics purposes but they don't have models. Tauroxes are too butt ugly in every way, and not in the cool butt ugly way like Russes.

Are any ultramarine successors as space-roman as they are? Most just seem generic-marine-flavor.

So templates are officially gone, which means they can actually mix up the ranges on all the different kinds of flamer type weapons. This brings things back to 2nd Edition where they had four different teardrop templates. Any predictions on profiles for hand flamers, heavy flamers, or anything else that previously used a template? Hell, the death spinner on Warp Spiders used to use a template.

So like a hand flamer might have a 6" range and the heavy flamer might have 12".

My dudes that I have never done in favour of Carcharodons are a DA/NL hybrid chapter that was formed after the Thramas crusade. Basically NL loyalists leaving the fleet and joining DA pursuants. The group was thought dead after the Crusade but they stayed there, in the asshole of the galaxy, and slowly merged together. Marines end up being influenced by either geneseed after several hundred years, which in turn means veterans divided between NL and DA minded marines.
There's a lot more fluff, but I don't want to spam stuff.

Well, my Tau's story about the planet they're based on is that they were sent there as a scouting force by Farsight before the schism, and they ended up on an Imperial Hiveworld that was mysteriously abandoned.

Their colony is set up in a pretty secretive way, though early on they came into conflict with Ork lootas who wanted to scrap the city for tech and bits. They lost most of their heavier battlesuits in the conflict, including their commander, though a Fireblade managed to kill the Warboss and turn the tide.

Fast-forward, and they're still hiding out on that rock, though they're woefully undersupplied. A lot of their tech is out of date or had more makeshift repairs. They're only somewhat aware of the divide between the Enclaves and the main Empire, though don't really care about the differences, mostly focused on holding their post.

My knowledge of KSons lore goes no further than 'I've seen Magnus on TTS', 'Fuck the Fucking Furries', and 'Ahriman Done Goofed', so I dunno how common what you describe is, but I love the idea of a sorcerous commander, constantly experimenting on his armies. (Not sure if he sees them as 'minions', 'pawns', or 'children'.) Oddly enough, reminds me of a Tzimisce I played years and years ago in Vampire.

So far I have a TS Warband named Warpthunder Coven who enjoy riding discs and bikes.
Allied with an Iron Warriors Warband who they helped during the Great Crusade and got along with as some sort of honoring to their primarchs' "kinship" if you will.

The TS HQ that I named Magusar spams Ectomancy like a motherfucker, while turbo-boosting on his disc left and right, and given he prefers speed, he doesn't deploy his Rubricae all that much.

I honestly don't know where to go from here other than them going about looking for hidden tech and artefacts and "help" renegade guard join chaos.

Currently the reasons I have to pick the TH/SS over the sword and bolter is the x2 strength, AP2 and the 3++ over the 4++. However, I lose fleshbane (which is a bit irrelevant because most things get wounded by str8 on a 2+ anyways) and lack of ranged weapons render his (admittedly rather shitty) warlord trait useless.

They are the T'ron Environmental Research Expedition, more specifically, the T'ron Expedition Defense Cadre. They are based on one of the many huskworlds in the Zone of Silence where they have established habi-domes in an attempt to reclaim the planets. In the habi-domes they research and develop new methods of terraforming to further aid the Tau Empire's expansion endeavors. They chose the dead worlds because they are completely blank canvases with little to no influence on the experiments and allow the researchers to attain the clearest results. The Defense Cadre scouts ahead of the main research expedition to ensure the safety of the researchers when they go out to other worlds to deploy later-stage terraforming technology, which is where they get their place on the table.
One guess as to what my paint scheme is.

Irony strikes when Vect comes into power and "convinces" them to halfway assimilate into the Black Heart Kabal by becoming one of their arms in the lower tiers. Thus, the Kabal of the Torn Soul is established, always led by the forcibly maintained family line of Twins. Recently, the Black Heart has "requested" that the Torn Soul infiltrate the Ynnari and report their findings.

My Chaos Marines follow Prince Athalion the Beloved, who is oddly enough not actually a champion of Slaanesh. His childhood was spent as a poor palace servant to a rich and spoiled prince, whom he envied to an insane degree. Even after the Black Legion sacked the world and scooped him up, he's still such a petty bastard that he stole the (long-dead) prince's title and tries to affect royal mannerisms and behavior. He holds court, speaks exclusively in High Gothic, manages to hold his fork just right at dinner, etc. Beneath everything remains a small, insecure, jealous child that can totally flip out when someone punctures his affectations. His top goal is actually to murder everyone in the warband that originally recruited him, along with anyone else who could reveal his actual origin. No one but him gives a shit but he puts entire cities to the torch to try and hide his "shame".

I've got my Chaos Warband set up into three main parts. The first is a renegade band of space marines with a knight/dragon theme, famous for their warchanting to the degree that they elevated it to an artform. He wears a Crux Terminatus on his right shoulder that he stole from a Terminator captain of Golden Sons Chapter several millennia ago. In a sick parody of Horus slaying Sanguinius, he cut down the resplendent champion, plucked his greatest honor, and then went all the way to Baal just to dump the body in space where the Blood Angels would find it. Also it was rigged with a bomb.

Anyway, my KDK warband was inspired almost entirely by pic related. They were an Ultramarines successor that fought in the Badab war and managed to stay loyal through it. Their specialty was biker shock assaults and they make use of chain spears and a special pattern of bike that uses a ramming plow to push through cover and assault their enemies directly. They recruited by hosting a massive tournament every few years on their recruitment world, a feudal ice planet. The Badab war and a Tyranid invasion of their home system took a heavy toll on their numbers and to recoup, they started hosting the tournament nearly constantly. Before long, Khorne took notice of the constant bloodshed and was pleased. Within years, neophytes, scouts and even full marines became corrupt, and within a decade over half the chapter became lost to Khorne and rebelled against the other half. The captain of the second company lead the heretics in assaulting the chapter master's fortress monastery, and in a heated duel, killed his chapter master in single combat, claiming what was left of the chapter for himself and renamed themselves in honor of Khorne.

Now, the tournament never stops. The warband now scours their own system and nearby ones with a band of raving cultists and daemons spawned in their bloody wake, destroying planetary defenses in the name of a good fight and capturing whoever they can to haul back to their world to fuel the eternal tournament.

I'm still kinda stuck on chapter names though, both pre and post fall to chaos. I'm torn on their new name and can't decide between Red Fangs or Mouth of Swords.

My Skitarii inhabit this ancient DAoT spaceship an explorator fleet dredged up in the Halo Stars. Thinking some kind of human version of a Craftworld (though not to that scale). They abducted and uplifted an entire feudal world's population to staff in and try their best to move their fleet through space without being noticed. They drift to any hostile-held world (or Imperial world that nobody particularly cares about) and seizes them for resources, either by "negotiating" with the locals or obliterating anything that puts up a fight off the surface with macrocannon bombardment and lightning Skitarii assault. They're still exploring and cataloguing the ship, but one of the relics they've found are a series of titan armours that appear to be forerunners to Knights, capable of tearing holes in reality and warping through (Because I love that scrap of fluff from Lucius about the Warp Runners).

On the flip side, local retailers who can open web stores will enjoy increased sales since people can order online while supporting their local store at the same time.

My Blood Angels successors are called the Void Vultures and engage in ritualized cannibalism after every battle and are about as tribal and as vicious as the Carcharodons.

Due to the fact a Daemon Prince framed them, their Chapter was found to be traitors, were chased off of their homeworld and have become renegades, along with joining up forces with a rogue trader and they continue to fight the enemies of Man. The PDF of their homeworld were forced to join penal legions and fight throughout the galaxy.

That's about all I've got thus far in a nutshell. Is it good?

I'm hoping they release some characters for Alpha Legion. It seems like they kind of get the short end of the stick development-wise.
