Of course it'll be awful. They shouldn't make movies like that. They should just use the universe, and tell interesting stories within it, with cameos tying them together at best.

One movie with the Night of a Thosuand Arcane Duels. Another movie as a love-story in Tilea. A trilogy about a small group of people and the Storm of Chaos. Yet another movie follows a Witch-Hunter that unveils the truth of the Skaven.

And so on.

>>52897452
Wow, the scale when they're right next to eachother like that really seem off. The dwarf seems way taller than he should, and the proportions compared to a human is just.. odd.

Scale him up and he'd almost just be an ogre.

It is indeed due to hero scaling, which means you get 15% more Dawi per Dawi.

Fixed them up to be guild-approved and animated. Comes in Reikland Red and Middenland Blue.

>>52897799

Am i crazy or do the imperials have huge packages down there if you catch my drift.
>>
Is FRP2e still popular or relevant?

I think it's fun and I've enjoyed it and heard it's considered the best edition, but fuck me if it isn't hard to find players.
>>
>>52897532
The problem with movies like that is that it requires an understanding of the setting - not just by the viewers, but by the writers and directors and stuff.

I think if you had told Peter Jackson to make his own LoTR movie instead of the Hobbit, he wouldn't be able to do it - he's probably a creative guy, but he can't just pull an entire story out of thin air, and make it something that works for a movie.

>but not every movie is an adaptation!

But in that case they aren't using someone else's setting to make it. I would recommend that a WFB movie at least be based off a short story - and there are some amazing ones that I think could be stretched into a good film with some padding.
>>
>>52897799
Yeah boi, that looks a lot better.

Is there no way to turn off Hero Scaling? I own the game, but have never played it, but if I do, I can see myself hating that shit.
>>
>>52897870
Most people I know who play it have fairly long-running groups.
I'm not sure it's a game with broad appeal so much as it inspires a degree of loyalty.
>>
>>52897906
What you'd want is this one: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=688554241

>>
>>52897870
I know a lot of people that plays it, and yeah, it's still pretty popular - especially once GW shat on it and people stopped waiting for a 2.5 edition or 4th edition.

It's got some minor issues, and some minor things that was introduced in Dark Heresy (made by the same people, building on the same system, so I consider it an evolution of the same system, with concessions/considerations due to the change of setting) such as a better way to gauge Corruption (like, at all), Perception being a proper Characteristic (more meaningful than you'd think), and a few things like that.

Other issues, such as the completely fucked economy (prices are all over the fucking place for seemingly no reason) are an issue, but it's not really major. But yeah, my point is that there are issues, it's not a perfect system. It's frustrating that no united elven or united dwarfen books were ever released, despite being planned.

But it's pretty damn solid, and surprisingly enough it feels a lot better and more consistent than the later WH40kRP games. Once you get the hang of it, it doesn't feel as dated as you'd think. Like, at all.

There's some warhams anon that runs a PnP Discord that focuses primarily on WFRP2, but I don't have the link.

After 6+ years of neglecting them, I am finally embarking on the task of painting my dark elves. I have these models waiting on shields and bases, but they look far better than the single color drybrush they had lived with all their lives. With 180 models left to go, I am trying to break them down into manageable 8-10 man chunks that I can complete in an evening.

Post pictures of your core units I guess so we can look at cool stuff (not mine).

180 models, how horrifying anon, I was in a similiar timeframe with my army, having only assembled 2 units and I found the best way to survive the monotony of it was to try and paint some of the units in a different fashion, slightly mind you but giving each unit it's own unique style really helped me keep my sanity. Also if you want them DONE. settle on a quality for your core and don't go beyond except for front rankers.

Yeah, I'm trying to get through core first so that I can have my dessert afterwards. Sadly, when I was younger, I went on an ebay spree buying warrior boxes at $12-16 a piece, so I have dozens and dozens of the suckers laying around.

I like your axe guy on the left. That weapon looks like its made to do a single messy job.
>>
>>52899383
hey thanks anon, the empire greatswords kit(I only had the funds for one) comes with heaps of glue on sidearm axes/sheathed swords , it was easy enough to convert his original sword to the greatsword 1h axe.

I also gotta note that you can kill the monotony by buggering with poses too, anything to keep it fresh. Don't be afraid if you burnt out though,a similiar method, and after 28 bows, 20 swordsman, 15 knights+conversions , I could only do my first 10 of 20 greatswords before my productivity flew away. It doesn't help that they are my final unit in my army to actually get built and painted(before I worry about basing)

Pic related is not core, but I only completed him 2 weeks ago
>>
I have 700 models needing painting over the summer.

It's a box too protect your groin, or a groin guard as they sometimes call them.

Codpiece is the word you're looking for.
>>
>>52899237

This is good advice, I stick to three tones of the base, shade and one highlight except for faces which get a minor one on the noes and cheeks. You have to be strict or you'll never get them done.

Also I would sit down and do some lists. Sometimes you just want more for the sake of them. Are you ever going to really use those 50 empire handgunners? Don't be afraid to sell some when you know 20 will do for 99% of games.
>>
>>52900285

Well, I guess you could call it a codpiece but they're usually made from the same material as what they're attached to. A box is something you wear underneath but it's all pretty similar, it turns you into 'muh dick'.
>>
Are there any mods that make TWW as good as MTW 2? Because everytime my friends and I play we think its fun for a bit, but then we get bored of the shallow gameplay and go back to playing MTW 2. We have a mod that supposedly slow combat down, but battles are still over in a few minutes. There's also an annoying auto route feature that ensures that battles can't longer than 5ish minutes.

The fact that its Warhammer makes me want to play, and I actually like how heroes work, but it isn't one of the stronger TW games.
>>
>>52900298
>Are you ever going to really use those 50 empire handgunners?

Codpiece is the name in English for both the fabric variety and the armour piece.
>>
>>52900510

Yeah when it's attached to armour. A codpiece on a pair of trousers like the empire guys would just be a flap of fabric. Underneath they will have some cured leather to act as a guard.

I wonder who green-lighted 'lets just do some 'mysterious' butt-bandit steampunk squats for our totally brand-new setting where there's enough perfunctory gibberish phoned in that we can do anything we want!'

The AoS setting is so devoid of any meaning because everyone respawns to go capture another flag, i mean realmgate#00948431 whilst killing off anything that could resemble character development in 'realms' that cover apparent infinity with suitably vague terms like 'life' and 'death'. All the while fighting against an innumerable enemy that will inevitably win for you to respawn and create yet another bunch of planets or whatever based on some butchered ancient mythology to go and keep selling plastic crack to kids.

So rather than actual dwarf sky-pirates in zeppelins in WHFB. We get shitty, faceless stunty sigmarines in the worst setting possible.

>It's states that it only blocks damage from spells and not magical attacks.

How normal is fire attacks? Do you expect to face 1-2 enemy units with flaming attacks, or are we thinking everyone has it?

Why the fuck does that "hundreds of thousands of knights" faggot keep coming here and where the fuck did that shitty meme start? The empire likely has hundreds of thousands of normal soldiers if we go by real life army size. I'm pretty sure at no point in history did any nation have 100k knights that's fucking ridiculous
>>
>>52904802
ain't the Empire composed of multiple nations
>>
>>52904802
Average army for the time period would probably be about 30k men, a third of them cavalry, and not all those horsemen being "knights". So if each Empire state can raise an army about that size when it needs to fight, that's more like tens of thousands of knights.
>>
>>52904715
Yes.

Saving points for shit like Blood Knights and Terrorgheists while a hero vamp works as a discount blender.

The following is the main builds.

>Blender Lord
>Cheap Wizard, vamp or Necro

>Master wizard, vamp or Necro
>Cheap blender or secondary wizard, vamp or Necro

>Master wizard, vamp or Necro
>Forbidden lore Lord vamp

All of the above will have one of the following
>Wight King BSB with Grave Guard or Black Knights
>Vampire BSB

Note that while you can use a Wight King who isn't a BSB Vampires are better for points even if you don't upgrade them.

You take Necromancers in order to save points. You don't want your wizard in melee usually unless you plan on a complete blitz so spending more to give them fighting prowess but costing yourself a BSB is a waste.

Wraiths and banshees usually suck. Not really worth bothering with.
>>
>>52904831
If you combined every nation in Europe I'm still not certain they would have anywhere close to "hundreds of thousands." Regular armies barely had that many soldiers until ww2 and we're talking about a medieval society consult being attacked by barbarians already in the borders.
>>
>>52904488
you gotta read the rulebook anon, it doesn't take too long and their is a copy in the op. but heres the quick and dirty.

1. what item/unit?

2. depending on your enemy/your own army comp expect a canny player to back accordingly.
a certain lore of magic adds fire damage, as well as for example warrior priests being able to turn on a fire damage button every turn.

In short if you run a whole heap of shit with regen, expect to get flammed. just nuke whatever stuff has flames or throw zombies/skeles at it to ignore it.

3. "unless noted, special rules do not apply to either do not normally apply to the mount/vice versa with the rider"
. but you really gotta read page85- 86 of the big rulebook. it explains better than I can how cav are/

4. p85-86 anon, if you have the little rulebook it's 82-83. you will mess up some rules if you don't familiarize.
in short no though. hits always strike the rider, monstrous cav get a special roll to decide what they do if the rider dies though sometimes

also as you are playing vc, here is a hint, try and have your angry killy vampire lord, with at least one back up necromancer so your entire plan doesn't go poof if your lord eats too many cannonballs.

Yeah, just like the real life Holy Roman Empire they have little ethnic ties, open dislike and bigotry towards each other, and are united only by adherence to the same faith and threat of invasion. Considering them one country, or even what the EU is, is a modern misinterpretation. Its more like the Delian League where there's more boddy assholes than just Sparta and Athens.

Anon, "there are as many elves as the plot desires" implies numbers mean nothing. There there is no credibility to the writing.

That those "hundreds of thousands of knights" lose to Archaon and his retainers if they got lost and wandered into a portal from the Chaos Wastes to the Empire while stumbling around for their morning piss.

Did you forget how GW accidently wrote the Imperial Guard as being greenskin numbers?
>>
>>52904919
You realize even historically sometimes specific numbers wouldn't be all that accurate - prone to exaggeration, or miscalculation? 'Hundreds of thousands of knights' could just mean 'a lot of knights,' like how we say we have hundreds of things to do, or thousands of problems to deal with.

so the dirty of it is this. if you have a vamp on a zombie dragon
you can choose which of the two to hit in melee, if you shoot them though unless the shooter has the sniper rule hits must be randomised.

oh also it's only monstorous mounts which get the special if the rider dies rules. keep that in mind

He's making a joke on how GW will dump anything they can't reasonably copyright as being their original ideas, so something as obvious as Jaffar won't fly.

Probably why Bretonnia was cut too - pretty much everything about them was obviously a ripoff of medieval history or literature (Robin Hood, Joan of Arc, King Arthur, etc). Tomb Kings might have gone for the same reason, even if it wasn't as direct.

BSB bubble will help with crumble, the Barrows is indeed the one, and Grave Guard are a durable and killy block of troops. Black Knights are the same thing but mounted and thus slightly more killy and durable.

GG/BK are not mandatory by any means. But they are good.

The numbers don't matter, all you need to know are that massive armies fought and some irrelevant towns got destroyed and a bunch of people died. Trying to figure out how the populations and logistics would make sense will cause unnecessary headache and ultimately solve nothing. Unless you're so autistic you need real figures from the fluff, in which case you get anywhere from a large imperial army having only a few thousand soldiers at the major chaos incursion that was volgonoff to dark elves having 80k soldiers garrisoning a single watchtower

Other than bridging the suspension of disbelief and providing investment in the story.

Its the difference between an author who spends years editing a book to eliminate all plot holes and one who pushes out a book a year that they spent maybe two months of it writing.

Otherwise you end up with something like AoS, where the stakes are made up and the results don't matter because the threadbare story is just there to fluff up main characters.
>>
>>52904715

My recommendation is at 2500 points you probably want a L4 Necromancer and a L1 Vampire lord.

Here's what I use.

Vampire Lord - 220
Level 1 Wizard
Heavy Armour - 6
Enchanted Shield - 5
Ogre Blade - 40
Talisman of Preservation - 45
Quickblood - 30
Red Fury - 50
= 396

Master Necromancer - 165
Level 4 Wizard - 35
Dispel Scroll - 25
= 225

Pretty standard stuff. The Necro has a pile of 20 zombies to shield him at the back.
>>
>>52905218
I assumed you were avoiding named characters.

Take Krell with Kemmler. Like Vlad and Isabella, you don't want one without the other.

HeinKrell is good.

>>

No, Warcraft is a ridiculous subscription fee game.

Or it was. May have gone f2p now, fuck if I care any more.

Also, learn your history. Warcraft was the pet project of a Blizzard designer who wanted to make a Warhammer game but was retooled when the execs at Blizz (not GW as the myth goes) wanted it to be their own game.

Later on Metzen went full Faerun on it.

You're a meme.

To add to this, you can then rake a mini-blender in heroes or a wight king with fencers blade and the other tricksters shard to hunt enemy characters. Be warned if you pull this off you will generate levels of hutthurt rarely seen among grown men.

Kemmler mentioned that the enemy must name all their magic items within 12'', and this confuses me slightly.

And is Kemmler's sword a trap?
>Do you want him with your GG or in a zombunker?

Stakes had meaning. When a village near Altdorf gets wiped out, to fans there's immediate context and future implications.

Everything in AoS exists for one story, and the only stakes are McGuffins introduced in that story and the general idea of losing something. It has no bearing on anything else because the entire setting is about gods and Chaos Gods, so a small village near some city has no importance in any way, shaoe, or form.
>>

Warcraft is heavily lifted from Warhammer. Its just lighter hearted and more fantastic since its inception didn't try to be plausible whereas Warhammer once did, and unfortunately borders on capeshit.

$140, and the time it takes to play. That's three boxed units new, or an entire army on ebay with patience and luck. Painted and played.

I just don't see a whole lot of love or nostalgia for the Red Period. Seems people like 6e's grimdarkness or 3e's retro grimness. Warcraft was somewhat inspired by what Warhammer looked like in 1994-5, and went off in its own direction. I really dislike the casual connection of the two as if Warcraft has anything to do with Warhammer post about 1997.

Araby fell so fast because its own people hated jaffar and only followed him out of fear. Once they saw that the knights presented an opportunity for freedom (and also that they'd end up as a red smear on the sand if they stood against them) many of them turned against jaffar and fucked up all of his plans during the final battle.

Also the skaven were behind the whole thing and only did it to weaken all nations involved, they didn't give a shit who won and likely withdrew all their support for jaffar once they realized he was on the losing side

So I'm really shit at making lists and posting this for everyone to laugh at/ give suggestions. I'm playing against wood elves, 2000 pts. Will give reasons for stuff at the end:
Lords/Heros:
>Warlord (General)
Swift slaying, Dawnstone, Tricksters Helm
>Greyseer
Dispell scroll, Tailismen of preservation
>Warlock Engineer
Lvl 1, Warp energy condenser, Doomrocket
>Assassin
Brass orb

Core:
>Skaven Slaves x50
Musician
>Skaven Slaves x50
Musician
>Storm Vermin x30
Sheilds, Musician, Champ, Storm Banner
>Night Runners x15
Warp Grinder

Special:
>Poisonwind Globadiers x5
Champ
>poisonwind Globadiers x5
Champ

Rare:
>Hellpit abomination
>Warplightning Cannon
>Warplightning cannon

Warlord goes in Storm vermin unit. Grey seer might just hop around. Assassin hides in nightrunners, who will be warmachine/mage hunters with grinder. The globadiers just follow the skaven slaves and lob shit into them with life is cheap rules. Storm banner because fucking elves and bows.
Biggest problems: Getting shit on them before arrows block out the sun. Also hoping globes can help with the treemen.

I tend to jump to reacting to these things as im a former skaven player, but something you've missed;

>assassin with brass orb

That's a Clan Skyre specific weapon, not accessible to Clan Eshin characters.

If you're worried about treemen and cavalry, take Plague Censor Bearers instead of globadiers.
>Hatred
>Frenzy
>flails
>toughness tests on any in base contact with them (before always strikes first. You breath faster than you fight elves)
>skirmishers

I've always leaned towards clanrats over slaves, as I prefer the weapon teams that are available rather than just having more bodies on the field. You wouldn't be taking units of 50, more units of 30 in 6 rows of 5, but it does the job for leadership purposes.

Where are you putting that grey seer. He'll get killed if he's running around on his own.

No, of course not. Imagine how bad that would harm my mercenary band's reputation if it got out that their leader was willing to lay with men for money - or worse, if things got garbled so that they thought offering sex instead of pay was acceptable. I'd get this one bag of gold, but I'd never get a job again - maybe that ass-loving faggot would even work to make sure I didn't get a job so I'd have to keep coming back to him.

There's a point where the money just isn't worth it, even if you really need it. I'd rather take on a few desperate jobs - at least then you can say that they served as mercenaries and rebuilt their reputation, instead of having to whore themselves out.

Squares are much better, without an easy way to tell facing all melee games just turn into a scrum in the middle. The exception being skirmish games like LotR where you have 20 men a side.

Now that 40K seems to be pulling itself out of the ditch it's been in since 5th edition we need an alternative game even more. What's the point of playing AoS and 40K when they're pretty much the same game now?

I just don't see how you can enjoy it when it's almost nothing but grey - especially those Yeomen.

I can understand wanting a more uniform look, but it's not even trying to vary up its shades of grey like some Wissenland schemes do, and the armor just blends in to the grey and makes it look even more colorless.

I don't really get the children's toys insult - they're colorful, sure, but the middle ages were full of color, and a lot of later timeperiods too. It wasn't really until about WW1 that you started seeing uniforms of grays and browns for camouflage - before that most uniforms and such were brightly colored, like the British Redcoats. It's not really childish at all.

State Troops are supposed to have a lot of variation in quality of funding - generally poor as fuck in the north, rich as fuck in the south.
>>
>>52915563
I also prefer the idea that though a states troopers share a uniform they are directly answerable to the baron or lord that hires them rather than the Elector Count of the province.

Centralisation is a bit flaky at the Imperial tech level, and while the employers of state troopers answer to the Elector Count there is a wide variation in how good the troops are, how loyal they are, etc.

>>
>>52912460
Mordheim is so dark and gloomy, you'd think Human Mercs would actually liven it up with colour a bit.

>>52915563
that is not entirely accurate, western Counties are richer, namely Reikland, Wissenland, Westerland and Middenland, while the central provinces are mixed with Averland and Talabecland being wealthy, while Stirland is dirt poor. The Eastern Provinces are almost entirely poor too, Ostermark, Ostland and Sylvania are poor as shit.

Don't know about Hochland, but I think Nordland is just pissed about being raided a lot.
>>
>>52915691
Honestly, even if Stirland is that poor, I'd still never field models without shoes because they look like garbage, and at the end of the day, it's gotta look good above all else, imo.
>>
>>52915635
Why would they be a must? In rocky areas sure, but if your feet are tough enough you'll handle most ground alright.

If you still think they should be a must, could be ways to explain why they aren't there - maybe they lost them in the mud, or it's like those Welsh longbowmen who'd actually take one boot off because it supposedly helped in rough terrain. Or they gambled them away. Or maybe they were supposed to have state-issued boots, but they never got them - but their own shoes were against regulations, so they couldn't wear them.

Right now they just use guns (fire damage) and regular 2H axes (magic & fire damage) just to see what I could fiddle around with.

Probably destroying the Chaos Wastes permanently. I love SoC myself and have often wondered this.

First, before anything else, Franz would definitely need to go find Archaon and give him a royal asswhipping and/or capture him. After that, he'd probably set his sights on the North if he can hold together the West, since they've now proven Chaos can in fact be defeated.

While trying to keep everyone who hates each other together and fighting, it'd be likely that technology and industry would be put on maximum overdrive to prepare their armies to make the march into the North, and also give their home guard a fighting chance at the massing Greenskins of the Badlands.

tldr I think it'd take more than 10-15 years and before going off to colonize the unknown world the Empire would most likely have to make sure the Chaos threat is ended entirely, and once their borders are secure, they expand outward, and that would go pretty much like it did historically, with Imperial conquistadors, piracy, and maybe the rise of Albion as a naval power tied with Bretonnia and the Empire for dominance of the seas.

>>Are the rules set up so that you don't HAVE to tell your opponent which models are equipped with what?

If I remember correctly, the rulebook assumes you don't know each others magic items(Hints all the items that reveal them). Usually in a casual setting this is ignored, but it makes the game way more fun to be surprised by a hero with something cool you didn't expect.

>>Do you want him with your GG or in a zombunker?

You want him wherever Krell is. Like
>>52905261 said, when they are together they are armazing. Keep them close so Krell can act as his bodyguard. There is no need really to be afraid to keep him on the frontline, his Cloak gives him either Ethereal, or fly. So unless some magic item bearing Hero comes along you will be fine(But Krell is there to take the challenge from that Hero so? Even then you should be fine). If you see a super scary unit coming, it might be a good idea to fly away, but usually it's better to just stay in my experience. His blade may seem underwhelming, but he has 3 attacks, and has a pretty good chance of at least killing SOMETHING, which is useful for raising a few more GG(Who are so expensive that it makes it insanely worth it.).

>How would you kit out a regular Wight King anyway?

Depends on what you want them to do. If you want an extra combat hero(For whatever reason) just give him an Ogre Blade, and the Dragon Helm, with a shield. He will be running around with a 3+ armour save, 2++ against flaming, with 3 S:6 Killing Blow attacks in combat, pretty decent.

However, running a second one as a BSB is a good idea(If you want a BSB that is). Give him A shield(Duh), and the Armour of Destiny. Nothing else needed, he isn't for combat, he is a buffer for you army who is still okay in combat. He will have a 4+ armour and a 4++ ward, which is needed for him.

I think Wight Kings always make good BSB holders.
>>
>>52918002
There have been threads on the idea in the past, if you're curious enough to go looking at what other anons have thought.

No, he can take magic items, UNLESS he brings a Magic Standard on the BSB, then he is limited to banners.

At some point you have to realise it's a lost cause and instead of changing everything to fit in with GW's grand scheme you just walk away. We're not exactly short of alternatives.

It's just not the game I really want to play. I admit I don't care about the rules of WFB all that much, but I don't really want to 'make do' with AoS, you know?

> the absolutely awful models and lore

This has a lot to do with it for me.

Also it lacks well, a lot of depth. I tried it for a while, and it just got boring. Three of my friends also got really into it then stopped after getting bored due to the lack of variety and such. Also one in particular got mad about how un balanced it all is. Also yes, we all played with the Generals handbook.

It also just has some bad design decisions. Such as the roll every round for initive. Meaning you can GO TWO TIMES IN A ROW! Now, people will say this is okay and adds "Depth" but I think it is just retarded.

Also, it's not a mass battle fantasy game, which is what I am after. It is 40k with fantasy models. It's not block combat, fighting through the bitter end. It's fully armoured space sky dwarves flying around and getting in and out of transports. It's like a super skrimish game blown up.

The rules for shooting are very stupid. As an archer unit can shoot into combat, including their own. Meaning you get to shoot people in the face, then use your swords. Or even worse, somehow shoot ANOTHER enemy unit, and still attack in combat. I hate that system.

All around, AoS still feels half baked and shitty to me personally. Try out both game if you're interested, and play whichever you like more. Just a warningt hough that Warhammer Fantasy and AoS play VERY differently, but all in all WF is way more in depth. Good luck, Anon.

Pic related is the greastest injustive of AoS, also all the amazing units and armies squatted by AoS. Fuck you GW.

If you are serious and want to have a real discussion then I shall give you a serious answer, but this is obviously only my opinion.

Some major issues for me are...

1. It's rules are oversimplified. I choose this word carefully, some great games out there have very concise rules not massively longer than AoS, but what AoS lacks is any precision. Simple things like being able to shoot out of cover, how modifiers are applied etc. are not covered and it's left up to use to decide. This oversimplification also results in another problem, the game doesn't simulate a battle in anyway. Age of Sigmar does have a level of strategy but it does not correspond to real tactics, trying to hit your enemy's flanks, tie up his ranged units. The tactics are very gamy, ie. have all your models in a perfect circle to stop something behind being charged. This isn't how real battles are fought, even at a skirmish scale.

2. A lack of respect for the player base. This is covered in 1. but basically I get the impression GW doesn't care. They want to sell collectable models and don't care about the game anymore, but they know out and out saying this would get them flak, so they have provided us with the bare skeleton of a game that requires no maintenance. It's more like something I would expect to find in a cereal box with some cardboard soldiers, not something the largest miniatures producer in the world would come up with.

3. This one is more of a personal preference but I always preferred rank and file for melee. It solves a lot of these problems.

There probably more but I haven't thought about AoS's rules in at least a year and this is already pretty long.

People started getting over the shock of losing the Old World a little bit and realised there's a possibility that the new system and setting can be appreciated on its own merits.

Is this shilling?

I'm big into 2e of WFRP and I gave Zweihander a try. This was a little back before its final release, but from what I played, I didn't like it much at all. I like complexity and all, but Zweihander felt like it had almost Fatal levels of detail and it got extremely boring extremely fast.

This is what the 9th Age is becoming. More of a love letter to 8th than a system that seriously tries to improve the game.

It's getting more and more granular to try and iron out the bugs but it's just turning into a mess.

When the new system is as bad, and the setting as subpar as AoS, ya. it is.

CA should make its own Warhammer tabletop. Alternative continuity that takes place in a universe were Manny didn't backstab everyone, and Chaos was defeated. at the cost of the entire world being a barren husk of what it was, with dark monsters infesting everywhere, and crumbling nations fighting for struggle.

The Empire could be lead by Gelt, whose crowned himself emperor.

Question about WFRP2e.

I'm wanting to go an Engineer career route, but I'm starting to feel like Engineer is an underpowered Advanced Career. If you're gun-focused character, I don't see why going Engineer would be worth it. Highwayman for example gets many of the same abilities, only better, and many more talents. Engineers only get two talents and some mediocre characteristic advances. Is there any reason to go with Engineer? If I ran a game, I'd almost consider giving it more Talents or something. It just looks so weak.

>>52919744

>the game doesn't simulate a battle in anyway.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. The simulation stuff is neat but GW always took it too far and it resulted in bogged down games and ambiguous rules.

It's fine for a game to just be a game.

I don't get this at all since they've launched the community site. Not to mention that various competitive groups have said that GW invited them to headquarters for either General's Handbook for AoS or possibly the 8th Edition of 40k to meet with the designers, play games with the new rules sets, and give their impressions on things that they thought needed to be changed.

GW isn't being 100% transparent, but also no longer do they seem to be containing themselves to people within the headquarters and possibly a select few around it and using that group as a basis for rules testing. I believe they've also confirmed that they are capable of and have checked out the various forums to see what people are saying about various things.
>>
>>52925669

>Is there any reason to go with Engineer?

Because you want to play an Engineer?

...

If you are using the career rules straight out the book then for starters Engineer and Highwayman have different career entrances.

Also having access to more abilities and stats doesn't instantly make a career better, it makes it cost more XP to complete. Meanwhile the Engineer could have switched career again, for example to Pistolier (while keeping things like access to engineer weapons gained from being an Engineer).

Personally I wouldn't mind tweaking the career system as needed though to create the character the player wants if it makes sense, or indeed stopping a change if it doesn't make sense. (no you can't become a boatman while we are adventuring in the desert sorry).

Not who you are talking to but what would be a good career path for someone who wants to use firearms well? More 'Sharpe's Rifles' than 'Imperial Engineer' The sheer number of classes are a bit overwhelming there.

Hey so I'm trying to figure out a good army for warhammer 8th edition 'regiments of renown' ruleset. I have the following empire units I could stick in
Knights Wlances
Reiksguards
Greatswords
swordsmen
Archers
1 handgunner

I Just don't know what effectively kills stuff
I would love for bundles of halberders but it's a luxury I don't seem to have

I Often fight 100points of dryads or chaos

My usual list is an inner circle Knight leader, then an assortment of greatswords and handgunners.
>>
>>52905857

Ok, so, this list has some glaring problems:

1) The warlord kit is completely off. Trickster helm on a t4 char is quite useless for 50 points, at least put him on a Rogre (which you can do since WElves have no artillery). Dawstone is quite bad, as your warlord has a 4+ armor save and everything in the WE book has armor piercing. Give him a 5+ ward save or put him on a war litter and add a shield if you want to run dawnstone, but even there against most lords it will be a rerollable 5 or 6.

2) NEVER, EVER run a Seer alone against Welves, they'll shred him. Don't put him into slaves either, as 5 ambusher on the charge will win combat against standard slaves AND if you run the seer is insta-dead

3)Engineer: the warp condenser is decent, the doomrocket is golden.

4) You're not running a BSB. This is bad. Very Bad.

5)The assassin can't run Brass Orb (which is quite useless anyway vs elves) and it's a terrible unit, skip it and for those point get a bsb and a couple of naked engeneer to boost that slave LD.

Core troops:

Slaves are ok, as Storm Vemrin (but if you run a BSB i'd recommend giving them another banner, mabe the Under Empire one, as 2d6 str2 hits are golden vs skaven).

Night runners are mediocre and bad in every way. Get some clanrats with a warfire thrower instead.

Specials:

Globadiers are laughably bad, overcosted, and in a block of 5 with D5 they'll run even from 1-2 wounds.

Get a single unit of gutter runner to pelt elves down.

Also, plague monks are pretty good against elves since they bring a shitload of attacks
>>
>>52926196

You have a few options there depending on how exactly you want to do things.

If you are wanting to go full sharpshooter then Targeteer would be your goal but picking up gunpowder weapons on the way.

>Hunter - Soldier - Targeteer:
Would give you the best range of stuff for a skirmisher/scout "sharpe's rifles" type with a gunpowder weapon. The downside is being without the gun for your first career.

>Soldier - Hunter - Targeteer:
Similar to the above but you would have to spend an extra 100xp to move from Soldier to Hunter. Advantages are you wouldn't have to complete the Soldier career and you would get your gun right from the get go.

If you weren't so interested in the light infantry side of things (which is where I was thinking Hunter might be useful) you could simply go Soldier into Veteran then on into Champion.

If you didn't want to be a Soldier (perhaps personal taste or the setting would make that restrictive) Coachman, Ferryman and Roadwarden are the other Basic Careers with access to Gunpowder weapons and all three can exit into Highwayman for not too shabby gun user that has a firearm from the very start.

>>52922061

Oh sorry, did not see you posted a corrected list. Here we go again:

1) warpolock pistol is unnecessary on GSeer, get another clanrat

2) Spears are not that useful, clanrat need to survive, not to kill, and you lose the 6+ ward save.

Mortars against elves are not that good, I'd get either throwers or ratlings.
>>
So /tg/ which warhammer fantasy race would have best waifus? Ignoring the shit tier ones like dwarves and elves. So far I'm thinking the skaven likely have some pretty good waifus would be pretty.
>>
>>52920002
Honestly it was better than rolling for charge distance.
>>
>>52914133
Yes they are.

The book itself has some lore as well, and the army list are expanded.
>>
>>52926769

Should have added that I would say Targeteer for the goal because it has +35 BS and fairly easy to get trappings. To be honest if I was GM I would say your gun from Soldier or bow from Hunter would suffice.

Champion allows for +40 BS but has much more difficult to acquire trappings.

If you didn't really mind having a lower BS but maybe more useful general skills then something like Soldier - Vagabond - Scout could work.

The advantage of starting with Soldier does mean you get a firearm rather than a blunderbuss or pistols while Vagabond and Scout both have fairly easy to get trappings.

>I had been thinking something over and wanted some input: WHat would it take for the Empire to enter a full industrial revolution/age of exploration? I was writing an adventure for WFRP meant to take place 10-15 years post SoC, and was curious if that would be enough time for such things to begin.

Depends on what you mean with "begin". It's arguably already "begun". It's still slow, but by the time of Storm of Chaos, the Empire has already started scratching the surface of both an Age of Exploration and begun a nascent industrial revolution.

I would say that it would take about 50 years at least after the Storm of Chaos before that is readily apparent to people, however, because with the Storm of Chaos and the following rebellions, plagues, and famines that are sure to follow, we have something vaguely analogous to the Black Plague in Europe, in which a lot of people died and freed up resources for the others, forcing innovation instead of just population growth, and made social change possible because expertise (even if it's just farming) became very valuable.

I always thought "Post-SoC" was a completely wasted opportunity that they never did anything with, it had tremendous potential. All the potential issues right in the immediate aftermath, famines, the uncertainty of Archaon's fate, the cults running amock, the warherds on the move, Chaos Dwarfs hiding out in the forests together with beastmen and others, all had tremendous potential, and the possible Age of Sail/Age of Exploration/Nascent Industrial Age that you could have if you timeskipped away from that puts a very different spin on things where you could keep the essential universe the same, but play up/tone down certain aspects of it, for something that is the same at it's core, but superficially different and with a slightly different appeal.

Instead, GW did nothing with it, and then shitcanned it all. They never understood the appeal of Warhammer Fantasy at all.

>So early WFRP had Dawi witch hunters devoted to the ancestor god Gazul.

Never heard of this. Source? I think that sounds awesome, and little reason to discard it just because it's old.

I wouldn't give them darker beards on principle, unless you want to make it look like the beards are dyed, which honestly could be a nice touch to a cult dedicated to the ancestral god of death; chalk it up to ritual, if you want.

Absolutely go with dark-coloured armour, perhaps in the area of dark brown, reds, or blues, with the signature black robes/clothes underneath the armour.
>>
>>52927368
there is no real chance of an Age of Sail while the Asur keep a lid on Human Naval movement, even so explorers have to dodge High Elf patrols.

on top of that a Industrial Revolution would shatter the empires unique composition and just move it closer to historical stuff which other anons mentioned already- wouldn't be too thrilling in practice.

Though the end of the SoC opens the opportunity of entering a 30 years war like Scenario where mercenary bands and religious armies hunt down and engage chaos strahglers, cultists and beastmen scattered through the old world. might also open the door for an Imperial Inquisition, or several Inquisitions focused on eradicating chaos wordhip in the Old World, comvined with the invasion and partial pacification of Norsca.

There are so many opportunities that do not involve Line Infantry(which wouldn't work in the Warhammer world anyway) and Factories, it would be a shame to leave them untapped.

Also someone make a new thread
