So Jumpers, if you have a fighting style, what does it look like?

Mine is pretty much just a modified Dragon Style: powerful attacks using my hands as claws, with punches and chops thrown in as needed, and kicks that resemble the sweeping of a dragon's tail. I use my overwhelming strength and speed and my insane flexibility, along with ki and elemental attacks, to keep my attacks coming in from random directions and keep my opponent unable to get a break and counterattack.

Straight Magician, except I dropped the Barrier perk for the A Heart to Call My Own perk and the Local Hero's Endurance perk. I also took the Plotbound drawback to pay for it all.

I was a bit nervous at first, but Goofy of all people survives just fine. I like to believe that I have at least as much survivability as Goofy

If only I had any idea what the actual plot of Wizard is. I should go ask him myself. Hey, Kamen Rider Wizard, what is your plot about why are you picking up a gun. Why are you shooting me?! WHY IS METAL CORGI WITH YOU?!

OH GOD THERE'S MORE OF THEM, TOO. QUICK, LUCAS, GET BASTION IN GUN MODE!

I know in the Medaka Box jump it says you will lose any powers not bought by cp with "growing up" but didn't someone find a way around it by using Adult Mode from Lyrical Nanoha jump? Just curious if that would actually work.
>>

Tell me about a time when you took a non drop-in origin, and discovered the life you'd been living up to that point believed or had done something with which you strongly disagreed.
>>
>>52884394
It wouldn't. The jump is quite clear on that, even if some people try to abuse the exact wording to get around what it means.
>>
>>52884421
That's totally Potato Mode.
>>
>>52884388
I didn't find the keyblades to be anything that amazing. Kingdom Hearts doesn't exist in every multiverse, and I don't need a keyblade to open things regardless of whether they're conceptual or physical. If you like the looks, I'd say just craft one yourself for the looks. If you like the magic effects then get it from the jump

Uh...only alt-chain rule of note I've done is no fiat backing at all. Purchases from previous jumps had a chance of backfiring or mixing poorly with other world elements. That chain had a VERY different dynamic.
>>

Normally, it's pretty much just Aikido modified to include strikes/holds using my Kamui's scarf tails.

In decidedly unfriendly bouts, some Susanoo-inspired moves creep in.
https://youtu.be/skGwYM4FeFg
>>
>>52884165
I've got a few test chains that went a little like this.

No drawbacks, No buying perks that cost 500cp or more, no warehouse or bodymod, no companions and every origin is just a drop in with different discounts.

Getting BS is so much more satisfying when you have to work for it and there's a lot less to keep track of so it's easier to keep focused on what's happening in character instead of just reading the shopping list and moving on.

Once upon a time robots went all Terminator on everybody but Captain America, Uther the Lightbringer, a Dwarf Fortress character, Madam-Not-Appearing-In-This-Trailer, Big Boss, and Soon-To-Be-DEATH-GUN stopped them.

Then they added Magilla Gorilla, White Mage, Clint Eastwood, Raiden, and Marty McFly to their roster, as well as some guy whose wife got kidnapped and brainwashed by terrorists so she'd kill him because he just refused to die otherwise.

Then their HQ went boom, OverGate happened and they shut down. They all went around doing their own thing until Magilla lit up the Bat-Signal again.

I actually really don't like the looks. Not even because of the whole key look, which is pretty cool, I guess? But because of the damn retarded hand guards. How the hell are you supposed to even hold that shit?
>>
>>52884388
Keyblades are the only thing that put Heartless down for good reliably and close a world's keyhole (which would otherwise be a way for Heartless to devour the world in its entirety) in-setting. If an anti-darkness magic foci sword isn't good enough for you, then that's just too bad.

I refuse to take certain "charisma" perks that pretty much make everybody react a certain way no matter what. I'll take perks that make me a better leader, I'll take perks that make me better at talking good, but I refuse to take perks that are nothing more than glorified brainwashing. Trap perks too.

As for drawbacks, I'm not too picky as long as it's not a guaranteed death or some kind of trap option. Fuck that shit.

Did I mention that I hate trap options?

So you're one of those guys.
>>
>>52884500
Hold it by the outer guard instead of the inner hilt and take up the same stance you'd use for a fencing foil or epee. The softer stance lessens the chance that the offgrip gets turned against you, and switch to a hand and half stance depending on your range. Thrusts are weak due to the outer guard being a bad handling point, but swings are about the same as how you'd parry with an epee and if you're focusing on footwork enough, you shouldn't have to swing or thrust wildly all the time anyways.

It works better with keyblades that have a more pointed end like the Leopardus or the Oblivion, but it can work with other keyblades too.
>>
>>52884580
>hate trap options
I guess you really hate Majikoi then huh?

Two-hand it and swing like a club most of the time. Sora actually gets pulled along by the Keyblade and/or makes it move by itself for some of his fancier moves.

Pokemon, of course. Sleipneir was obviously some one-of-a-kind mythical Pokemon that he took with him.

Doctor's Companion Chain:

>No warehouse. That's the TARDIS's job.
>Always import companions if there is an import option. Always.
>Doctor calls the shots over jumper. If The Doctor doesn't like it, jumper doesn't do it. Jumper is allowed to go behind The Doctor's back, however. Let's hope that doesn't happen, wouldn't want to disappoint/anger him.
>If The Doctor kicks jumper out or jumper leaves, the chain is over.
>Jumper will still receive 1000 CP by default, but will still have to pay to import companions
>Not really a rule but more of a 'something to steer clear of': Jumper is allowed to gain power, but the focus here is more on using wits and cleverness instead of outright curb stomping someone simply because that isn't very interesting and this is for fun. Take a ton of luck/I'm smart perks okay to circumvent this.

>>52884525
I never take the "the heroes hate you and want to kill you" drawbacks unless I personally hate the heroes. (Which is actually quite rare in the jumps I actually take, as much as I go on and on about how I hate generic light novel protags.)

No Cap on Active Companions in jump, however, all companions need to have a slot of some kind. 8 Companion slots free. 7 Pods. Feathers and Ring work, but I can only make one Cheat Mode duplicate. after that, they stop working. DxD Evil Pieces create companions/Slots but they must be characters who died in their source media.

Basically, any method works once, or as many times in a jump as I can purchase the option. After one time, Jumpchan goes from amused at my ingenuity to annoyed at my exploiting that particular loophole.

I just kinda ignore the companion limits on how many people you can have out. The spirit of the rule was to prevent massive armies sweeping across settings, and I don't use my companions for that so I kinda went fuck it and just let everyone hang out or do whatever they want.

I also sometimes end Jumps early when there isn't much to do. That's if I'm not in danger, the plot is over, the world is at peace and I don't have any possible plans or drawbacks that would require a longer stay. I don't like gaming the system or anything, but I do just get rid of the tedious bits so the story/my personal enjoyment doesn't get dragged through the mud too much as I gotta figure out what to do in the remaining seven years of yet another modern world without significant differences compared to ours.

I won't claim to understand it though, and anyone who says they do is a liar.
>>
>>52884881
I do. It's a lot harder to make a consistent story line while rolling, and I've rolled jumps way beyond my ability to handle more then once. For example, I rolled Imperium as fucking Jump #5. That was the exact opposite of fun.

You get more disappointment than not. Choose your jumps and you can stick with jumps that you actually like and avoid jumps that are just shitpost fodder. Roll and if you don't know a whole lot of IPs, then either be prepared to do too much research or get fucking bored.
>>
>>52884103
Depends on what kind of attention and what the chain is, really.

Writer Chain is more of a quiet sort who wants to be left alone to write and will sometimes appear to observe heroes and maybe train or advise them.

Well, ideally. Inevitably their companions pull them into stuff (Cu pissing the wrong person off, Nylocke seeing a GREAT INJUSTICE that he must change, Sakura wanting to go somewhere, or whatever, as Sage like Writer Nika wants to be left alone), or someone wanting power for any reason (good or bad) shows up at their doorstep, or someone threatens a person dear to them, or basically the plot shows up at their doorstep.

I haven't completely read all of Fate/Apocrypha, but telling from spoilers I'm pretty sure once Shirou Kotomine catches on that my jumper has Third Magic it's going to be FUN getting the hell away from him.
>>
>>52884938
>It's a lot harder to make a consistent story line while rolling
Doesn't that mean your storyline is way more genuine though?
>>
>>52884869
I combined it with an FMA Philo Stone, the HP Philo Stone, the Bloodstone from Noblesse, a couple Dragonstones from Fire Emblem and the Angel Stone from Symphonia.. then planning a few more things before I make it into my Gem.
>>
>>52884294

At its core, my style is basically Kosaka Style Ninjutsu with a few melee techniques and some Iaido preferences. Kosaka Style Ninjutsu comes from Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple. It's the style of a couple of the world's most dominant practitioners of weapons based martial arts and can be summed up as "absurd mastery of anything even resembling a weapon" with distinct ninja themes. I personally chose Shigure as my teacher.

That being said, my personal weapon is a Sacred Spear that I spared no expenses on stacking and customizing to my specifications. Maybe the most important upgrades from the perspective of my fighting style are the ones that allowed it to learn my skills from me wielding it and it being able to fight on its own with all the power and skill I would be able to employ.

So basically, Kosaka Style Ninjutsu that has evolved to the point where I'm literally employing teamwork with my own, magical super weapon, sometimes providing support at a distance with whatever esoteric powers I might have at my disposal.
>>
>>52884165
>Start with PMD
>Start with a very weak form and evolution for free
>No partner, can't take Partnerless
>Not part of the main plot at all, it'll be resolved by itself over the course of a few months or so.
>Jumper is a native to that world, so no meta-knowledge of other settings beforehand
That made it a good deal of fun, actually.
>>
>>52884968
Not if you're running a normal chain then suddenly you get shit like Sonichu or the Room. With over 800 jumps, rolling half the time leads to a jump that is just boring as shit. The storyline becomes I sat around for 10 years and waited for things to end because there either was no plot or I didn't care enough

More than I'd care to admit. Being a protagonist is rather addictive.

>>52884165
Don't have any at the moment. Life is kicking my free time in the nuts at every opportunity, so I'm having trouble just writing for the one.

>>52884294
I still like to fall back on my Fencing. As in, wielding an actual 6 foot section of white picket fence as a weapon. I was a little silly when I picked options in Ranma 1/2, so my unique martial art is Fence Fencing. Combined with the 'hiding things up my sleeves' and 'construction master' perks from that same Jump, I've cobbled together attacks like literally nailing my opponents to the floor or tripping my foes up with a hastily planted garden.

It's surprisingly effective.

It's more interesting than choosing. I did several chains, and after switching over to rolling instead of choosing I find I don't get bored as easily this way. I have to actually think of how I'm going to survive, or what I'm going to do for ten years, and building in ways that I usually wouldn't.

Rolling a few and choosing between them worked better for me but it still felt less like a legit chain than the standard choosing I was doing initially.

Jumper, do you have an archenemy? A drawback enemy that stuck around for some reason, or an evil Jumper that follows you around, a friendly rival that has a tendency to pop up when you least expect it?

Mine is of the Evil Jumper variety. He wasn't all that bad at the start, but his Benefactor pushed and prodded him in just the right direction for him to become a serious threat, starting in Infamous (Jump 4). At that point, he was the serial killer from that one drawback. He was a power absorber, dubbed a Leech Conduit, and grabbed fire, smoke, ash, and napalm right at the fucking start, and he's been a constant threat from that point on.

I've seen this a couple of times and I frankly don't get it. What do you mean by this?

I've had times where I don't really care for the setting or the jump itself, but that's never stopped me from finding a way to make it interesting/valuable for my chain.

I don't even really get how going to settings you know or care about even helps in this regard, since I rollchain for the specific purpose of getting way from settings I'm familiar with, and like to avoid them else my chain gets same-y.

One of Jumper's friends/companions may also be the chain BBEG. I'm not entirely sure on that yet since they're genuine friends and stuff and make concessions for one another all the time despite disagreeing on a few points.

The reason I say this is Jumper can't help the hero traits, while the friend/companion is classic BBEG material. We're talking eating people for power, amassing hostile takeovers for resources and social strength, plotting in the background of each setting to take down threats to herself or others in the group, etc.

At the same time, Jumper doesn't know a lot of what she's actively doing, she mixes in half-truths to cover her ass and she always makes sure to have an argument ready in the case she's ever discovered. Like, she never ends up killing people who aren't on the list we picked up from Soul Eater, and everyone in the group already agreed those people were deserving of death what with the long list of crimes and Death himself giving approval. So if we ever find out about her body count, she can retread the ground we've already tread.

So, yeah, it's a very strange situation where we're not enemies, but there's definitely potential for things implode. When I took the JUMPER drawback in F/SN, the "worst case scenario" that made the JUMPER who wanted to end everything, a big contributing factor was things going really bad between me and my friend. To be precise, she somehow got infected by JUMPER's Madness Wavelength despite relative low exposure compared to even other companions. She then orchestrated the deaths of other companions and ate their corpses to keep them safe inside of her forever. It doesn't make sense, but it makes more sense in context.

I used to take any random jump I rolled, including the ones that weren't very well done or were extremely long winded.

Fairies in Harry potter are basically bugs with vaguely humanlike shapes. They also make decent decorations at christmas.

In PKH They're actually true fae serious business plot device tier perfection and the gateway for Harry to succeed at everything because the author has a thing for that.

As for Colonel Sanders apparantly despite ruling the known world from the shadows, Dumbledore somehow doesn't know about KFC and was easily tricked into thinking that the Colonel himself was the dark lord of muggles and a serious threat to his rule. It's exactly as dumb as it sounds.

Well, we have several jumps where you can acquire magic that can be taught to people. Alternatively, you could give him Force powers and make him a Dark Lord of the Sith, that ought to be something unique. Also, you can teach him how to be a dark lord in terms of scheming and all that, or you can just use stuff like Sacrificial Bestowment or the Loyalty reward from Dishonored 1 to give him a copy of your scheming/villain perks, if you have any.

>>52886360
Shitposting aside the main problems that have been brought up about those jumps are as follows.
The narrative for the "jumps" doesn't fit jumpchain, so to begin with they should have been in /cyoag/ not here. They're just CYOAs using a similar template.
The second problem is that his English skills are poor and his writing level is low, so he often makes jumps that are difficult to read and are low in quality. Jumps that are too long for their own good or have confusing and pointless wording.
The third problem is that his jumps don't stick to canon and often add things that aren't found in canon.
The fourth problem is that the jumps are rarely checked for balance because people look at how long they are and just wave it along. If you look back there's barely any critique on it, which goes to show that they aren't checked for quality to begin with.
The fifth overlaps with the second and third and that's dead weight. If you look through the jumps normally over half of the jump can be ignored completely which means that the length wasn't necessary to begin with.

He's one of the better examples of a low tier jumpmaker, but that's not saying much since the only redeeming quality of his is that he's alright at formatting.

>>52886589
>The third problem is that his jumps don't stick to canon and often add things that aren't found in canon.

Fourth isn't a fault either. If someone has a balance problem they can go and take it up with him. He does listen you know.

>The third isn't a problem. Unless it's clearly for the sake of powergrabs original flavor is a good thing.
The last time this was brought up people explained that this was a problem because inserting original flavor in the way that he does it prevented people from making jumps in the same franchise, because he inserts things where they don't belong. Also there's no clue where he gets these original ideas from so no one has a clue what they're supposed to do.

>Fourth isn't a fault either. If someone has a balance problem they can go and take it up with him. He does listen you know.
He's a SB jumpmaker, there's no reason to make an account over there just for a single person. On top of this, there's no reason to bother since his jumps aren't made for this drive and won't be accepted here.

>As for the first. It's easily ignored if you don't like it. To me the survey team is neat and is a recurring team of friendly faces for when I don't keep companions around.
It shouldn't exist in the first place. It's unnecessary and forces people to read some story they have no clue about. If it didn't exist, people wouldn't be forced to ignore it, hence it's a fault.

>For the second. I wouldn't say they're poor, but that's an opinion. He does have problems with length, but it's always readable even if it's longwinded. At worst I'd say he's average. I've never had to take a step back and reread a perk 3 times to figure out what the text says for example.
If a person cannot express himself properly in one sentence, that is a sign of poor communication skills. His inability to write anything concise is a sign of poor writing. The average English writer is much better than this.

The survey team is fucking weird as hell and isn't a part of jumpchain. It was super jarring to see the in Spirited Away and jammed me out of the immersion. I haven't too deeply read any of Dirge's other jumps for this reason. he also rambles too much in his jumps when I just want to know what the hell this perk does so I can move on.

If he's so serious about perfecting his art, he needs to learn there's value in brevity. Resorting to long ass rambles just bores the reader.

I mean I'm not someone who typically criticizes jumpmakers but Dirge like other people has problems, but the amount of demonizing he receives is ridiculous. Sure, he might be a jerk at times, but who isn't at some points?

I'm explaining objectively what the faults are since that was what the question was. If you want to overlook them I can't stop you, but pretending that they don't exist by sidestepping them doesn't mean they're gone.

The people who brought up the jumpmaking point made it very clear that there wasn't a point to try and make a jump if he was just going to leech items that would have been in their jump, so it does prevent people from making jumps.

If his jumps were accepted you wouldn't have people continue to harass others about using them. You can say that on paper they're accepted, but it won't change the fact that it would be better if somebody else not associated with shitposting made the jump instead. If you're going to say accepted and add a tagline saying don't tell anyone you use it because you'll get shit on, it's better to say it just got rejected in the first place.

Companions are brought in on a per-jump basis. Some settings just weren't made to have certain people in them, and some companions just wouldn't want to go to a few. Imagine what your D&D party would do in modern day tokyo. It would be more hassle than it's worth. So usually I just keep them timefrozen for that jump.
>>
>>52887070
Jumpmaking isn't just about writing a jump. All of our jumpmakers have gone through the thread multiple times and developed experience through feedback here. SB jumpmakers don't have that. Anyone can write a lot, just look at fanfiction.net. But if they have the same problems consistently that means they're inexperienced because they haven't fixed the problems.

It's not like there's a guide to namefags or something, so no I might not know whatever history there is. From what I see, he dumped a few jumps twice when he was active here, didn't bother going through the feedback process like most jumpmakers would and then left for SB. I don't think there's anything wrong with judging by what I see.

If he's apparently that experienced and he still has that many problems with his jumps, that says something pretty bad about his jumpmaking.

>It's mandatory if you want people to not call you out for being wrong when shitting out factually incorrect information like it's objective.
All you've done is tell me that he used to take feedback in the way distant past that you don't know about and oh he wrote a whole bunch of words so he has to be experienced. This isn't drama, it's just you insisting that your opinion is right and mine is wrong, using outdated information that doesn't match up with the current reality to justify your opinion.

This argument is so trite that it's meaningless.

'He may have been here for years, made dozens of jumps, received criticism gracefully and grew from it over time, but he he isn't here right now so past doesn't matter.'

'I don't like the way he writes which means that his jumps are OBJECTIVELY bad. Just because you don't accept the fact that I'm OBJECTIVELY right, doesn't mean I'm not.'

'I'm shitposting about his jumps, which means that my shitposting is justified, because if they were good I wouldn't be shitposting!'

'There's too much content here, we need to rip out the scenarios and remove all descriptive language, explanations, and context from the writing.'

This is every point that has ever been brought to bare against Dirge, and it's always delivered in the exact same way, there's no difference. >OAA points out that Dirge had been shitting on him ever since he picked up Air Gear
>OAA realizes he got himself involved in drama but felt he needed to correct people saying Dirge was nice so lost control
>People meme that Dirge has been harassing jumpmakers all over IRC

I can recognize the last part as a meme, but I don't see why OAA would lie about Dirge harassing him. Seems kind of stupid to lie about a person that's left, like, what would he even be lying for?
>>
>>52888165
That there is a plain words section at all is a problem. There shouldn't be a need for that.
>>
>>52888105
From what I've seen OAA seems to regret mentioning whatever argument he had with Dirge because of the autist that locked onto it. I don't think OAA ever really said anything about hating Dirge/thinking he's a bad jump maker. It's all the autist with abandonment issues trying to start shit.
>>
>>52888155
It was a really common debate that used to show up on IRC where Dirge insisted he had issues with length and couldn't manage it, but everybody else would basically ignore him or just tell him it wasn't a problem. The impression that "Dirge never gets feedback" was because most people ignored the problems that he brought up himself, basically he shit on his own jumps so hard that other people didn't bother. I don't think the Survey Team was something he'd ever yield on and judging by his SB posts he doesn't even run normal jumpchain anymore, but the length, wordiness, and variety of options were always things he hounded himself on.

So when people turn around and deny that the problems exist in a way it's like saying Dirge's opinions were also shit. I'm not sure how SB treats his jumps, but the irony is that by the end SB gave him more criticism than we did here.
>>
>>52888165
>People complained about the length and the difficulty of understanding what some perks did and if you look at his newer jumps he puts in sections at the bottom that summarise the perks/items/etc and puts it in plain words what they do.
I honestly don't understand why. His perks aren't unclear in what they do, and the reason they're long is because they actually fucking explain themselves. A lot of what people complained about with perks if they ever even bother to talk about them anymore is how unclear a lot of them are written. Dirge's Perk text is already pretty clear and through, I have no clue how anyone could be confused about what those perks do.

> Jumpers! Do you have a bird alt-form?
I don't think I do, actually. I mean, I can shapeshift, so technically I can be a bird whenever I feel like it, but I don't have a bird base form to be in.
I do have a Pigeot, though, from my very first jump, if that counts? It is a Pigeot. It's special abilities are Pigeot abilities.

> How huge is it?
SO huge.
Okay, so, like, most trainers are like, "I want to be the strongest!", and so they put a lot of time and energy into training and move learning and all that stuff. I caved on that pretty early.
But Pidgeys are super easy to catch, and you don't see a lot of trainers with them in any canon (except for, awesomely enough, Gary/Blue, whose Pigeot is mega-stronk), and I decided, "You know what? I'm not gonna go for strong. I'm just gonna have the BIGGEST PIGEOT.
So, a not insubstantial chunk of my Pokedollars went to buying vitamins and supplements and whatever the Poke-equivilant to protein powder is and just giving it all to my Pigeot. That thing is mega-huge now. Like, the size of an actual truck.

It is, consequently, actually really strong now. Not the strongest, but, like, strongfat, you know? It can kick up windstorms like nobody's business or just hipcheck you into a fucking tree.
Huge birb.

I know that kindof wasn't the topic, but when the fuck else am I going to get a chance to talk about my hugeass Pigeot?
>>
>>52888183
I didn't say he's lying, but what harrassment means is this case could mean many things.
To me it looks as though OAA was given shit on occasion over Air Gear.
Given that Dirge is still waiting on Dino Crisis I think I know why.

I don't think he meant that Dirge was constantly hounding him every single day, there's a possibility I'm wrong and if I am someone should correct me, but it seems wildly out of character for this to be the case.
There's saying someone is a jerk sometimes and then there's saying you hate them and everything they stand for. OAA hasn't done that to my knowledge and I think people need to stop putting him on the spot for an offhand comment.
>>
>>52888199
The thing is, we liked the jumps he fucking gave us, and usually didn't want him to change them too much by removing shit.
>>
>>52888185
It's more that some people don't like fluff. Like the anon who complained about how the exalted jumps were written. More a matter of personal taste than anything.
>>
>>52888200
Because not everybody likes the same style of writing, it's not really all that complex. That's why it's silly to think that people shouldn't hate Dirge's jumps, because those jumps are an extreme example of a cyoa and not the norm. When you have extremes, there'll be people who hate it. Not everyone likes Traveller's Tale for instance.
>>
God, are you guys fucking dodos or something? You don't seem to have any short term memory. Next thread you guys are going to totally forget this argument ever happened and are going to go back to believing that maybe the shitposter actually has a point to be shitting on dirge constantly, and that OAA agrees with him, and who's this Dirge person again? I hear he's a shitposter. Fuck
>>
Mmmm, so I've been thinking about this for a bit. One of the problems we have that causes many threads to devolve into pointless arguments is a lack of stimulating conversation, right? The more social people here have a lot of energy and drive to talk about something but don't know what, so they just respond to the first thing that comes up. Some anons have admitted to shitposting or responding to shitposting out of sheer boredom.

Maybe we should start trying to invest in new conversation starters or topics? I mean yeah, we get the random questions for people and those are nice but the subjects don't really have the substance for something prolonged. Someone asks question, people answer question, that's it. This is a single player game, most people are personally invested and don't care as much about the chains of other people, especially since there's no investment. The only consistent things we got going for us as far as prolonged conversation material would be "shitposting", "Jump development" and "current flavor setting" and the second one has died off some since people rarely go through the steps of a Jump with thread anymore.

What do you guys think? Is there something we could talk about together that would get more people personally invested? Maybe we could talk about the things we like most about different Jumps and which Jumps we think did those things the best? Why we feel that, what other people would recommend, stuff like that
>>
>>52888199
That makes sense. I just wasn't seeing it from what you posted.
I disagree that people are shitting on him by liking what he produced in it's current state though.
What one person considers a problem is not necessarily the same to the next person, and there's nothing wrong with merely disagreeing.

>>52888229
There's a difference from not likeing something and claiming your opinion on something is OBJECTIVE FACT. There's also the blatant samefagging, constant shitposting by bring it up where it has no place, and constant lying on top of all that, which makes Anti-Dirge posting obnoxious.
>>
>>52888210
Well the way I see it, if OAA feels that strongly about it that he's willing to voice it despite the guaranteed shitstorm, then it must have been something pretty serious. Otherwise why wouldn't he just have forgotten about it, especially something that's over two years old now? I've seen OAA on IRC and he's pretty chill, that makes me think it was something really offensive that Dirge did.
>>
>>52888252
The whole thing mainly annoys me because it means the Spirited Away jump will never be posted here. I really want the bathhouse.
>>
>>52888253
Every thread someone rolls for a jump. That jump and it's setting becomes the thread topic. This way, people can actually talk about the more obscure jumps/settings and we don't have to engage with shitposting since we have other conversation.
>>
>>52888300
And yet if he felt so seriously about it then he wouldn't be backing away from it everytime he's pressed.
He outright asked people to stop trying to drag him into this shitheap.
That is not the actions of someone who feels strongly on the matter.
>>
>>52888300
I mean, we still don't have an Air Gear jump, so it might just be because OAA claimed it, still has it claimed, and hasn't worked on it in the entire time. I would be a little mad if I cared about Air Gear, which Dirge might, so it might have been a prolonged thing.

>>
>>52888345
Has Dirge himself ever said anything about Air Gear?
>>
>>52888300
I've looked in the archive and it was more an offhand comment that he didn't seem that friendly to him.
And he said that he wasn't paying attention to the thread when he made it and didn't seem like OAA was expecting the whole "Are you saying he was harassing/making personal attacks" thing.
http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/52201007/#52202345

Looking through the archives about Dirge being mentioned it really seems to me like someone with a grudge against Dirge leaving.
>>
>>52888299
When you keep in mind that Dirge was a lot worse with his own criticism of his jumps than the shitposters it isn't all that bad, because you can tell the shitposters have no clue. I remember Dirge literally getting angry at himself because he felt like he didn't write one of the narrating perspectives in the tone that he wanted because there weren't enough lines to distinguish the character properly. Their points are all kiddy grade compared to what Dirge was focused on.

>>52888312
I think in time somebody will make a jump for it. I mean we've had people show some interest in Ghibli jumps. Probably won't have the same style of scenario since I don't think anyone bothers with that kind of style, but it wouldn't stop you from getting a bathhouse yourself.
>>
>>52888253
I'd like to hear about world-building stuff as it relates to things like generic jumps.

I'd rather not make thread topics "Jump X and what it did right" because that seems like it easily turns into "...and this is what it did wrong, and this is why its author sucks", and then people are picking it over and before you know it someone will go "Okay, Jump X has A, B and C wrong, there's no name on it, someone take it down and do a new version".
>>
So what are some interesting people in certain settings to use The Real Fake from Majikoi on?

One of the Hogwarts founders in Harry Potter seems like you could pick up some cool knowledge for example. Find out if there are anymore secrets in Hogwarts and etc.
>>
>>52888373
He's not interested in it if that's what you're asking. The last time it got brought up with him he was more interested in Tenjo Tenge than he was in Air Gear. Whatever happened between OAA and him was presumably private. I would have thought that Dirge would have given him more shit over Protoss than anything considering he actually seemed excited.
>>
>>52888408
World building sounds like a really cool idea too. I wasn't into it much, but a lot of people seemed pretty into Duel Monsters world building when Eager was bringing that up and it lasted for a good long while. If we can get people talking about how they handled generic and other freeform plot Jumps, it might inspire other people to do new stuff when they head there.

I think you have a point, maybe the "right and wrong" mindset isn't the best for that type of conversation. I think it could still be really good if we're talking options and possibilities and cool stuff though, and I don't think we should shy away from moderate possibilities when most topics already have that potential. It might also bring old Jumps to the attention of new people which would be cool.
>>
>>52888408
Really? I don't think that's realistic or even possible in this environment. Any attempt to remove just is met with terrifying levels of hostility and vitriol, no matter how bad those jumps actually are.

Even then, settings are more interesting to talk about even for good jumps, because jumps themselves aren't all encompassing, there's a lot that isn't covered or defined, a lot of room for adventure and discovery if you actually care about the source material.

I mean, we don't really talk about the jumps too much when we talk about Exalted, now do we?

People bring up things to shitpost about all the time, having someone attempt to drag the current discussion through the mud is at least better than having the shitposters bring whatever they want up and controlling the conversation.
>>
>>52888377
At this point this is just going back to arguments of personal experience, so honestly unless OAA himself comes out and says differently, there isn't a point debating who is right or wrong. I mean if Dirge really did harass him, it's in the past and if things between them really are that bad, it might just be for the best if both of them are in separate places entirely.
>>
>>52888472
>having someone attempt to drag the current discussion through the mud is at least better than having the shitposters bring whatever they want up and controlling the conversation.

Moreover, it usually doesn't actually work, because people are more interested in talking about the current subject matter than they are whatever drama is being brought up.

Maybe something like "How do you get the most out of Perk X"?

Could even do something like "Thread makes a X jump" - someone picks a setting we don't have a jump for, to try and get anons to pitch in perks, items, drawbacks. The anon who posed the setting can sort the ideas and maybe get most of a jump WIP out of it.

This looks like a recipe for disaster that boils down to people arguing over what setting to do and what perks they want to see before people start slinging powerwankers or nerfwhores at each other.

At least just discussing a setting keeps things civil. Trying to collectively make a jump just invites people to give their opinion on how they think jumps should be made.
>>
>>52888533
Maybe once in a while we could do a roll chain that only goes for a single thread? Jump chain speed run?
>>
>>52888553
That's just for the Majikoi only effect, since you get more then the effect in future jumps. In majikoi you generally get the power of the people you're copying, same with abilities.
>>
>>52888533
I like these ideas too! We get a lot of popular perks, but we don't have as many people posting how they end up using them. People could even ask questions or advice from people who have taken the Perk about how they've used it or what they would suggest it being used for in the context of the anon's chain.

We'd need someone responsible to lead the projects when doing community projects, but it sounds like loads of fun to come together and make new Jumps together. We even have lists for "Jumps that need to get made" so we're not lacking in ideas, right?
>>
>>52888553
I think that's only for the initial part of the perk, I think post jump they can be stronger as you don't get any of their abilities, just their memories (which you have to unlock over time) and their physical appearance. I could be wrong though.

I think it might be less of a risk if a willing jumpmaker interceded to a degree. Not so much that it became their project, but enough that we didn't collapse into anarchy.

>>
>>52888613
I could see it working if it was anon, but the moment you associated a namefag to it people will let their bias take over. It's also a bit of a pain if it turns out the thread picks something where there's already a WIP out there somewhere. Like I had no clue Marvel had a pdf for Honorverse for the longest time.
>>
>>52888663
Maybe a namefag who doesn't get much attention but makes decent enough Jumps? Do we have any of those, ones shitposters don't bitch about regularly?
>>
>>52888663
I don't think most of us have big issues with most of our namefags. Some of them have a stigma attached for a small number of anons, but I don't think that matters too much, since most of them are pretty clean anyway.

Isn't that the reason we have a list of WiPs in the first place? To keep track of what's actually being worked on? How do our jump makers even know if someone else is already working on something or not if they don't have a way of figuring it out?
>>
>>52888688
Maybe Gauntlet if he's up to it. I've never seen a shitstorm with him in the center, so he has that to his credit.
>>
>>52888688
DeSu's managed to avoid the shitposter's attention, and he's made some pretty good jumps.
>>
>>52888696
Problem is normally writing style. When the jumpmaker is off doing their own thing and throws out a finished product, it's hard to turn around and point out problems. When it's happening live, harassing them is easy and then the process falls apart. And when it's a collaborative effort you can't really tell them to suck it because that just invites more vitriol.

The list of WIPs honestly doesn't account for a lot of the jumps that are being worked on because it isn't kept up to date very well. Normally people just ask but it isn't like we have that many jumpmakers active to begin with. We probably don't even have twenty jumpmakers active anymore.
>>
>>52888704
>>52888740
Okay, cool! That's a couple of people right there, just have to see if they'd like to go for it. We should probably try to figure more out some time so there's not too much pressure on any one person.
>>
>>52888748
That seems like something we have to work up to. Like, give it some time to figure out who's doing what when and how, because just jumping into it feels dangerous.
>>
>>52888748
You can just make it open application and tell them to organize the details like time, gathering people, and the actual jumpmaking details. Asking for people that make "good jumps" is kind of pointless because good tends to be subjective and on top of that, ideally the anons will be actively checking quality anyways.
>>
>>52888757
Well the incentive isn't really there to begin with. Unlike free jumpmaking this requires whoever volunteers to basically sit at their computer for whenever the thread needs them to and do the compiling work.

If anything you still have no clue how well the roll a jump and discuss it for the whole thread idea is going to work. It'll be good game if you roll something that's too obscure for anybody to even discuss.
>>
>>52888783
I'll probably be able to carry a conversation about most jumps on the drive just on the basis of knowing a lot about media and having consumed a lot of information about the settings that have had jumps made for them.
>>
>>52888757
Mmmm, you have a good point there. Since this would be something new, baby steps would be ideal. Sorry, think I just got a bit excitable.

>>52888767
You have a firm point anon, I think I'd like that position for things. So it'd basically be like "hey, why don't we do x jump, do we have a volunteer to head the project?" and then that person would start talking things out with people to see what type of involvement and how much everyone wants.

In this context I was talking "good" as in stuff people generally liked and didn't really have anything negative to say.
>>
>>52888800
I'd say try it and see. You can try to carry it, but if the interest isn't there to begin with, you'd have to be forcing it more than anything in order to keep things going. And if people are more interested in discussing another jump chances are they'll do just that anyways.
>>
>>52888411
Really, there are tons. Just pick a historical figure. Chances are, if they're mentioned, then they're important.

Fingolfin (LotR)
Manus (Dark Souls)
Galorian (The Elder Scrolls)
Yu the Great, possibly, it depends (JttW)
technically Wuya (Xiaolin Showdown)
Lex Luthor (DC)
Tony Stark (Marvel)
Guru Laghima (A:tLoK)
Phoenix Lord Asurmen (40k)
Hashirama (Naruto)
>>
>>52888783
I mean, its more a matter of having it be a topic for a thread, anons throwing ideas at a wall for a while, putting it into a pastebin. What the jump maker would be there for would be to keep anons from devolving into an argument over how the jump should be made, and to keep discussion about what should actually go in it.
>>
>>52888811
If people do volunteer work, most people aren't going to come out and say that it's bad. The community acceptance aspect is something that can end up backfiring on you assuming that it works, especially if it sets up a standard as to what a "thread accepted jump" should be and future jumps get held against that standard. Time zones and activity will also likely cut down on the people you have available, which means that you're more than likely going to have the same people volunteering.
>>
>>52888852
I don't think that's going to stop people from criticizing the ideas posited by the thread. Anon's can be most vicious to other anon's ideas after all.
>>
>>52888827
Again, it's a matter of interest. If you pitch a setting like Dungeon Meshi, you might get a flurry of activity because DM is pretty popular here on /tg/. If you pitch a setting like Poseidon's Children, you might only get two or three people.

Organizing group activities when there's this level of variation means you absolutely have to do the ground works to make sure that you don't run into a case where the whole thing flops because of a lack of organization.
>>
>>52888874
Criticism isn't really the problem. It's when people get into the mindset that they have a quality standard and end up using it blindly as a crutch. We already have people that justify certain jumpmaking decisions based on precedents in other jumps. If a standard does form, this would be the easiest place for it to spring up from.

In some ways having a standard is a good thing. But depending on who sets that standard, you get different outcomes. A jump standard made by someone like Heavens will be different from one made by someone like Gauntlet. When it comes to pitching ideas things can get out of control real fast, and some jumpmakers don't handle that as well as others.
>>
>>52888877
Well, I don't think you could rush into it even if you did chose a popular property, I feel like you have to do some groundwork anyway.
>>
If you want a case in point, when /cyoag/ made a collective cyoa, the organization work was laid down pretty fast, but the way it worked was a blind input system where everybody was limited to one entry with a short blurb. It kept things under control and everybody had a chance to participate.

For a jump this doesn't necessarily work. Everybody might focus on the perks and no one will think of items. Or people might just be able to think of the same two or three things in a setting which are iconic leaving the jumpmaker with the burden of handling the rest. You need to work out the details beforehand to try and cut down the possibilities if you want it to work out smoothly. Because if it crashes and burns too many times, people aren't likely to volunteer for it again
>>
>>52888924
Have a couple public documents for Perks, Items, Fluff, Companions, ect, discuss and criticism the ideas in the thread, sort out what's good and what isn't, and compile it into a WiP. Might be a bit of a mess, but it's doable.
>>
>>52888912
You actually can. Take a look at the Persona 5 exchange up top. Impromptu back and forth, but it's basically what you're going to get either way. People aren't likely to write out full perks, they'll just be tossing ideas out and hoping some of it sticks.

The minimal amount of groundwork needed in a jump isn't that much because the template is already there. It's the mindset that generally needs work, because the jumpmaker is normally in a different frame of mind from the anons, and even different jumpmakers have different ways of tackling the same problem, which makes expressing that a challenge.

If you do it the cyoag way, you're basically praying for a popular IP because blind input only works when there's enough interest. If you do it live, there are way too many other problems to consider along the way. I remember the MGCYOA discussion back then was a shitshow.
>>
>>52888958
>Fluff
I'd leave this one out completely. Perks, Items, and Companions are things people can generally agree on. Fluff is not. Arguments about fluff devolve into the same sort of my tastes are better than your tastes arguments that basically sum up jumpmaker drama.

The WIP and compilation end is usually handled by the jumpmaker. Most jumpmakers should already have a system in place which works for them in making a jump, something that they can just insert ideas into. It's the ideas that the community needs to agree on.

I've got an absolute shitload of birdforms. There are a few places where I'm convinced they're pretty much the best option (Rosario + Vampire for Siren and Overlord for Birdman for instance) and I tend to go bird or birdlike whenever I get a choice of monstrous appearance.

It usually looks like a bat hawk as I generally stick to having gold eyes and black hair and I like the little tuft on their heads that goes up and down depending on mood.

Because I cram a bunch of forms together all the time and took some of the more powerful "you keep growing" perks and a few that let you be small with the advantages of bigness the size can vary extremely. Powers are what I can pretty much usually do but I do take quite a lot of sonic/shouting abilities and given my possible size I could REEEEEE loud enough to cause the world to end.

what could you expect if you somehow managed to shift sakuras attention from shirou to jumper?

(Insert joke about cat hiding amongst the birds)
>>
Is there a reason why the balance of the HunterXHunter jump is so shitty? For 250CP you can become basically Meruem, which is fucking ridiculous, especially in comparison with the capstones of the other origins.
>>
>>52889359
When I asked the thread, they agreed it was a flat 500CP on two separate occasions, on account of you can only take that perk if you're a Chimera Ant, and the jump doesn't say what the discounts are.

There's nothing in the jump that suggests that it isn't discounted, but let's assume the price is 500CP. That would still make it the OTB of the jump, because nothing else can hold a candle it it. Hell, even an undiscounted 1000CP would arguably be too cheap.

With all the jumps set in that time, I'm sure everyone gets the chance to go to school a fair few times.

For those of you who actually go, what do you do? Do you play it normally? Mess around? Empower students and make your very own animu?
>>
>>52889508
Mess around and mostly ignore things outside the bare minimum. I like blending in with society but not sticking out.

Stashed it in my warehouse to mess with Aizen. I have a habit of doing that with things I steal from villains. I grab something they need for their schemes, say "oh, you wanted this, bro?" or something equally childish, and then teleport it into my Warehouse.

Depends what the jump's gimmick is, but I usually play student life straight. Not needing to sleep or study means I have a lot more time for extra-curricular activities.

Good thing or bad thing?
>>

I think most people are just gonna be neutral. It was a decent standalone ninja movie from like four years ago. Doesn't really have an outstanding fanbase, fandom or cult following.
>>
>>52889508
I go all in on it, normal all the way. High school was the fucking best and getting to relive some of mu favourite years of my life whilst able to breeze through all the boring and hard bits? It's all clubs, all festivals, all concerts, all the time.

>>52889713
Looks pretty good. Always surprised to see people able to make stuff with just a single movie as base, so I'd say you did good working with such limited bases. Never seen it though. I imagine it's still a WIP as it's missing drawbacks?
>>
>>52889508
Everybody is going to enjoy their time. No matter how much money and magic I'll have to inject.

>>52889697
Your school had all that? Heh, nothing but jealousy here.

>>52889710
DO NOT.

No, dammit. It was supposed to be one attempt only...
>>
>>52889765
Well we'll call it natural talent then, that seems fair to me.
>>
>>52889587
>Is in now way an absolute thing, you’re still only human.

Should be "no" rather than "now" I imagine in "I like you more and more".

There's also pretty inconsistent capitalization of titles. Companion option would be nice for imports. Drop-In capstone is pretty weedy compared to the others (particularly compared to the ninja one which is probably the strongest option) but other than that I like it a lot. No idea about the setting but there's some really neat stuff in here.

I'm the asshole student who doesn't pay attention to anything the teacher is saying in class and then aces every assignment, test, and extra credit option.
Generally teachers either hate my guts entirely, or think I'm extraordinarily gifted and bemoan the fact that I'm not applying myself properly.
Or there are the teachers who just don't care. I like those teachers.

But it's basically just that none of it matters as long as I get "good grades", and it's otherwise basically a vacation for me. I zone out in classes a lot, read books, sleep, and play hookey.
... that all assuming of course that I don't just decide to fuck with all of it and drop out entirely because I'd rather aimlessly wander the city. I'll go full delinquent given half an excuse to do so. Because it's fun to act like you're hot shit even though you're not really doing anything to deserve it.
>>
>>52889657
Sorry that was me. It was just not a jump I was expecting to appear.
It seems fine at a quick read, but I'm not sure why Drop Ins get a ninja technique as their capstone.
>>
>>52889906
mostly because I tend to shape jumps accounting for first jump jumpers, and it's something that would be pretty nifty for a drop-in looking to survive interfering with Ninjas.
>>
>>52889508
Varies class by class. Basically depends on how much I like the teachers.

In Harry Potter for instance I spent a lot of potions lessons knocking together the potions effortlessly due to the perk so spent a lot of time writing and drawing a comic called "The Adventures of Professor Snape" which mostly had Snape acting like how he does in Potter Puppet Pals while working in stuff he actually says in lessons whenever it'd be funny.

I also spent a certain amount of time making documentaries about Snape's day to day life and then airing them in the Gryffindor common room.

Both the comics and the documentaries were very well produced.

I got a lot of detentions.

The jump is old and by someone who made it then left really. We have a lot of those where the maker doesn't stick around after or does & doesnt want to be credited. Its pretty poorly made but there's nothing we can really do about it.

I'm sure when HxH comes off haitus he'll come back. The joke here is that the manga is on indefinite haitus.

>>52890188
No, you were someone else. You were the SB tier wording abuse and the fact that you're trying to portray it as a solution instead of flagrant abuse is shameful.

It was a fun thought experiment.
>>
>>52890225
Shame really, HxH is a great series. Wish it could've gotten better treatment, like Zoldyck its capstone is to be stronk. While 32 tons is nothing to sneeze about, that's still leaving out the assassination arts they do. Kurta clan's description gives detail about their eyes but not why it makes them special.

The insect perk tree is op as pointed out. Nothing wrong with it, but to be King for only 500cp total (300cp race + 200cp capstone) blows everything else out the water.

Oh well. I did like Greed Island arc, I thought the idea of having advanced technology that's able to make a card game real. That was cool. Especially how spells worked.
>>
>>52890311
Iirc it wasn't advanced technology, but advanced nen. Basically, there were so many restrictions on the cards that they could be made as powerful and as long lasting as they were in the series. But I agree, Greed Island was one of the high points of the manga.
>>
>>52889587
There is a funny thing in the jump, the Officer background got the gun perk while the Drop-In got the guns.

Spam goats (superhuman retarded fodder) is something that all witches can do, even without being specially strong.

Crafting a good furniture might result in a powerful servant with some magical capabilities.

As a side note, at Voyager levels the goats that you spam can harm multiversal characters and eat multiverses.
>>
>>52890548
What makes a witch a voyager? Is it something learnt or are they higher dimensional beings that have travelled to a lower dimensional reality or something?

It's not gay if it's a three way.
>>
>>52890578
It's unknown. Of the three Voyagers, two seemed to go to quite an ordeal (they survived their own logic errors) and the other was granted her abilities by Featherine.

Theoretically it can be learn, but not in-chain due to the limitations placed on the jump.

>>52890801
I just meant to say that the more powerful you are, the more powerful furniture you can easily produce.

It's the ability to buy your race that keeps people going back to Forgotten Realms. It's a cool option and people enjoy having a high powered alt-form.

Danger 5 says you can make extremely powerful guns if you use gold.
