In the current group, I/party spend most campfires doing the following:

-discussing events of session/ campaign

-being fed delicious rat stew by the half-ork paladin nobody wants to tell isn't a great cook

-begging the cleric to let me use the dangerous magical artefacts we decided not to use just because like 2 people died, stupid good party

-modifying my musket

Campfires are good opportunities for small side projects the player can do over multiple sessions, RP conversations and/or a bit of humour if your game is usually a bit serious

Party trust in my group has dwindled to the point my wizard sleeps alone in a rope trick every night without fail and the other party members safeguard themselves alone too.
I miss narrating what we ate and how we unwound.

not quite the same thing, but I'm running a pirate campaign and long parts of sessions have been spent getting drunk and starting shit in port bars

the PCs just sit around drinking with the crew, and occasionally socialising with/tormenting the locals

I love that the Jester has a camping skill called "Tiger's Eye" that makes him quote Eye of the Tiger.

Most of his camping abilities are references to popular songs. It's a nice little Easter egg! One of his abilities also makes him knee slide to the front row.

We don't really sit around a campfire anymore. We are in a desert and sleep in the day and travel by night.

My players had a really awkward time role playing with each other when this campaign started.
Only one player seemed comfortable role playing with the others and the other three could only role play with me.
One of them could barely do that despite having been in a previous campaign of mine.

The entirety of the session tonight was just role playing, they had arguments with each other, and came to agreements.
They had serious discussions with NPCs, made independent choices and asked questions that were logical for their characters,
and did things I hadn't planned for.

This session was great and I have no idea what these kids are going to do next.
