Depends on the varient you're playing.

Local play tends to allow it, but some groups try to assess it doesn't.

There is another rule "if you can claim an enemy piece with a legal move, then you may not make a move that does not claim an enemy piece" that gets more contention around here.

Playing without double jumps but with forced attack changes the dynamic quite nicely.

Other optional rules include "leap frog" where you can harmlessly jump over your own pieces (with further option to double jump in order to claim enemy pieces), "all kings" where backward movement is default, and "China" where filling all the king upgrade spaces is an alternate win condition.

I can't say whether double jumping is classically included, as I've never studied the history of this mediocre game.

Unlike other games there are countless official versions of checkers and all of them allow multicapture, actually they force you to multicapture unless at specific situations.

This is one of the rules that make checkers, be what it is.
