Depends on what, exactly, we're talking about.
Regarding D&D (because it always comes back to D&D), Mage Armor is typically equivalent to wearing scale mail (+4 AC). However, in some editions there are further improvements on Mage Armor, such as Greater Mage Armor (+6), equivalent to wearing splint mail, or Improved Mage Armor (up to +8), equivalent to full plate armor.
All these are completely invisible to the mundane eye.

Considering even leather armor, which is little more than a thick leather tunic, has ASF, the movements of arcane magic are thus unerringly precise. Anything that restricts you more than a breezy robe can disrupt it.

It does go down low enough to cover her crotch, but it also seems to be transparent. (Though that could just because it's wet in the pic.) It depends, a lot of people base their ideas of Egypt on the upper class, who wore a lot of clothes because they could afford to. That or the slaves, who might have a bare breast but wore simple and cheap clothing regardless. The middle class with really inventive revealing outfits aren't as commonly thought of, really, or you see the shirtlessness of the men but not the women.

The stuff they wore after becoming Islamic, where they technically followed Islamic conventions of modesty but the clothing was all see-through, is also pretty interesting.
