Simple. Establish a Parliament or other form of semi-democratic government that I don't explicitly have to run but that I can keep an eye on as I become the world's most elegant bachelor.

Gain a wonderful wife, then inexplicably turn evil just for the sake of being evil. My wife and I shall become power liches and, knowing how those pesky heroes tend to work, never do anything more than be slightly annoying to seemingly random towns and villages.
