Besides, I've played just about every other starter race and I've learned to love playing humans. And since most of the people i play with are special snowflakes I'm the only human most of the time.

I just can't find much of a good reason for most of my characters to not be human. If I'm ever tempted by non-human, it's usually because of mechanical features, but even then I can't picture them as a non-human, as easily.

As long as your group isn't too munchkin-y, you should be able to embrace non-humans flaws.

Some of my most fun characters have been a kobold that could scarcely lift his own pack and a birdfolk whose hollow bones gave him the con of a damp napkin.

Player characters are inherently snowflakes, though. Just because the party consists of a giant, a tengu, a warforged, a half-angel sparkle dog, and a goblin doesn't mean the entire world is like that; the PCs could very well be the few of their kind in a realm of mostly humans.

It's the players' story, not the GM's. If you want to restrict PC choices to conform to your brilliant, definitely-will-be-published novel series, go ahead, but that's pretty much spitting in the face of what roleplaying has long been: a collaborative narrative.

If Gygax hated them, why did the first edition of non-human races have a bunch of half-assed rules like how every elf had to be a ranger or wizard or every dwarf had to be a fighter?

Why is the supposition in the thread that if you aren't playing a human, you are trying to be a snowflake?
I have found that mindset even in people who don't really play pnp games, the shitbaggery that stems from it ruins what could be inventive play and imaginative characters.

I almost always play human or dwarf. My friends say it's because I'm boring, they are correct
