i'd try to get this metal scriptor while available since he's far cheaper than the plastic one.
Furthermore you cant really go wrong with this gauntlet tactical squad box (rhino + tactical squad)
I'd skimp on the start collecting as i am not a fan of the baal pred, but ymmv.

Lastly there is a new edition around the corner(rumors: June) so some things might change especially the rulebook and codex might be obsolete by then. I.e. you might want to use the ones in the OP until then.

you might want to read up on bubblewrap, i.e. put cheap guardsmen infront the armor preventing your death company from charging the tanks.

What's the verdict on prepainted models?
I have a seller who's put a bunch of fairly well painted miniatures in my chapter up for auction at a low price WITH free shipping... but something about it feels wrong. The idea that they wouldn't match the rest of my army, not completely, being higher quality and different style... the fact that I didn't assemble them or go through the process of painting them, and that I couldn't take credit for the nice work.
It feels weird. But they're such a good value.

No, I bought the Mk IIb many years ago, like between 5E and 6E, and there was never any option for getting just the Mk IIb parts, it was always the whole model.

Who the fuck has a spare LR lying around anyway. The kit replaces the entire top hull so you can't just slap it on a completed raider.

BA player here. I find that going HAM on your death company tends to be a waste of points because they dont really last much longer than normal assault marines against anything with good shooting. Especially with the characters on them. 1 Squad can be good if you can keep them alive. Also death company dreads in drop pods are not as good as they seem because they only have front armour 12 and can't charge straight away. If you want to go with a melee type dread then Furiosos are much better. If you want to try bashing tanks to death try the orbital intervention strike force with thunder hammer termies. They will end up costing less than the death company and get more done.

Since I don't want to be a complete scumbag I guess this is the next best thing to a war convocation? I plan on putting divination in my large kataphron unit along with Cawl and dominus so I can give them sky fire/monster hunter/tank hunter each turn. Dragoons will be in the maniple for better movement turn 1. Coteaz gives interceptor so my knight is protected a bit better and gives me a better chance at getting first turn which I sorely need. Tartaros pads go on Indomitus shoulders quite well. There's a little bit of looseness, so I assume Tartaros shoulders are just slightly thicker, but I don't think it's anything a little filing won't fix.

When I take letters to the post office, if it looks thick they run it through this thing with a slot to determine if it'll fit through a mail slot and if it doesn't, they're not gonna deliver it to your door. It killed my store too. People have been showing up only to play that and they only bring enough models for SW. I asked a guy for a game of 40k and he looked so hesitant. I then pointed him to another guy who wanted to play Shadow War and then he got super excited.

I just got back into 40k 3 months ago after 8 years of not playing, so 7th edition is exciting and new for me, but everyone else in the store is bored and wanting something else.

Ynnari is pretty trash against Guard thankfully. Especially if you bring Emperor's Wrath and blobs. I've stomped all the Ynnari players at our store lately and it's been a great time. All their extra shooting can't hit tanks out of LoS, they are clumped up to make sure they can Soul Braap, most of the extra shooting just goes towards making small dents into blobs. Speed only means a lot when you have room to flank, but if that flank is filled with bodies, you don't have much room to go.

Still not using War Convocation as much as it's been suggested, falls under the category of "too good to play" outside of tournaments in my opinion. I intend to give the kataphrons prescience caddies and help my knight from getting popped early with interceptor from coteaz. I'm not sure if Cawl is worth the points however, and I'm also unsure if I should make him my warlord and get Obsec or drop him and lump the latter detachments together as a whole skitarii maniple. That they did, though GW has had a turn for the better recently. Relatively speaking though. Stuff like Lost Patrol and Silver Tower work because they're self contained experiences. Gangs of Commaragh kinda does as well, thanks to its limited scale, but it's still a game that assumes everyone's going to be buying and building their own force.

It's the same same deal with KT and SWAG. I get the feeling that, as ever, GW is a miniature company and they're uninterested in supporting the long term growth of smaller games that people will only buy 10-20 models for. They'll put these games out and hope they serve as avenues to get people into 40k, which will have them buying scores of minis.

Avernii, being 1st company, has vets, dreads, techmarines, transports, battle tanks, and gunships, all under the command of the 1st clan company. But that's just fluff. Running a 1st company task force (if that's what you're thinking of) is the same as in Codex: Space Marines. Other than that, vets and dreads, with a fuckload of vehicles. Clan raukaan supplement might be of some use, even if that's third company.
