I believe the implication is traditional games like board games and card games.
>>
Winning a board/card/war game isnt preceded by waves of adrenalin.
>>
>>52464425

Could it be? Should it be?
>>
Honour, respect, humility, knowing it will amount to nothing etc.
>>
Winning a game, although a joyous experience, means that the game is over, and that is sobering and somber. The smile is for delight, and the nod is for respect.

Let's take a moment to acknowledge the moment that has passed.
>>
>>52464320
An athlete is typically engaged in strenuous aerobic activity up to the moment of judgment, which amplifies emotional responses for bio-chemical reasons.
We are not disembodied minds of pure logic.
>>
>>52464441

>Honour

My adversary does me great dishonor by treating my defeat at his hand as if it were a mere trifle.
>>
>>52464320
>Athletes are high on tons of Adrenalin at the time of winning because they act on muscle memory more than on conscious decision, which leaves the mind relaxed enough to quickly snap into full celebration mode which is further amplified by the mentioned Adrenalin
>Traditional gamers are mentally 100% in the zone, making the victory more of a relief of pressure with the realization of victory coming slightly later.

You ever been to a casino man? People get real emotional about it.

Professional poker players sure, but they're not gambling their own money.

ngl i punch into my palm and hoot every time I roll really good. Sometimes I get out of my chair and pace circles muttering "fuck yes" to myself when something works out, before sitting back down and doing breaths to not make it happen again.

but i'm just an excitable person. and extremely shitty at poker.

I don't play mini scams or card scams
>>
>>52464320
Depending on the game I do shout, cheer, and jump.

I also laugh loudly. A lot.

It's great to have a group of close friends who you can play with, and who aren't afraid of being challenged by the GM in meaningful ways.

Act purely on muscle memory and you will lose every game

We are not animals that can't control themselves.
Mostly.

There are some noisy, childish neckbeards that will do that.

>>52464320
Jumping for joy while playing card games and the like tends to knock over the table, which is frowned upon.
>>
>>52464320
Winning an athletic competition is an actual accomplishment, playing a board game isn't.

The definition of "sore winner" varies greatly between the cultures of athletic sports and board/card games.

Although I believe not interacting with your opponent at all after a game is pretty rude. Maybe I'm the odd one, but as a Magic player, I believe you should at least give a handshake with the ol' "good games," parting at least. I get kinda put off by opponents that refuse to chat a little after the game.

But yeah, showing a bit of pride in athletic sports is considered acceptable. Being prideful in traditional games makes you look more like an asshole.
>>
>>52464493
This guy understands

Also not all athletes start screaming and jumping for joy when they win, endurance athletes like runners and cyclists usually just collapse and chuckle a bit because they're literally too tired to do anything else.
>>
>>52464752
Gambling gives you rush because you're putting yourself in a high risk and high reward situation.

And yet successful poker players keep expression so indifferent they became proverbial for it.

Too add on to this, I think the reason prideful reactions are frowned upon in traditional games is because you're really only making decisions. And to presume you're better than the opponent is to practically say you're smarter than them.

Also there's the existence of variance, or chance, in many traditional games, so a "better" opponent can always lose at some point.
>>
Nerds are a different class of people. Tend to be quieter, less outgoing, more reserved- screaming and jumping up and down isn't something they like doing most of the time.
>>
>>52464320
Because the radical feminists are breathing down our necks and the slightest show of emotion will cause them to swarm us and destroy our lives for the horrible crime of having fun while not being a woman or a tranny. That's why gamers that have almost nothing are so outspoken, they have nothing to lose and can say the things we are all thinking without consequence.

>Stop playing D&D 3.PF.

>>52464320
We're all fat and don't like moving in general.
>>
>>52464320
Speaking for myself it's because winning wasn't my goal, it's just a consequence of doing my best. The only times I've ever been overly excited about winning is because winning became more important than having a good time and showing the other player(s) what I was capable of.

Depends on the game.
A game like tennis is all atheltics/mechanical skill with almost no tactics/strategy, so it's probably smart to 'lose yourself' and just react to everything if you want to win
>>
>>52474820
That's not even close to true regarding tennis.

>>

>>
>>52464320
For me, it was a butthurt fuckboi in my group who treated anyone else winning like a personal insult.
>>
>>52468573
Not really. There's definitely stages to it, and in the beginning getting better at a physical sport such as tennis, fencing or karate or whatever means that you learn to think in a different way and look for specific things. Getting even better after that requires you to learn to "shut off" your brain and rely almost entirely on your muscle memory and instincts.

In a way this also applies to traditionally mental activities as well. When asked a professional Magic player, for example, is asked why they choose to make a crucial play, or why they didn't make one, they often can't answer; they just "knew" that was the way to do it.

>wrong

Pro players - and I'll include TTGs here - have a deep emotional investment in winning. It's the reason for their participation and, in certain specimens, seems to define their whole existence. Bro-tier ca/tg/irls and elegan/tg/entlemen know the difference between a sport and a game: scorekeeping. We gamers prefer to have some laughs with each other and MAYBE keep score, but it's not an essential element. Adult beverages and barbecue are nice options too, but everyone having a good time is paramount.

>What's wrong with you guys?
