Playing?

Hating?

What do you think about counterspell in modern?

How do you think it would affect the meta/other archetypes?

What is your opinion on control?

What do you think would be a healthy addition to Modern? Are you opposed to supplemental product?

Do you think DSJ will die down or is it here to stay? Does it have a natural predator yet?

Do you think there is anything hurting the format?

Too good. 2 cmc counters need some drawback.

Not my thing, but if you like it go for it. I just don't want control to dominate the format. It seems more viable now than it has been historically.

Depends on the version of tron. I only have experience playing\ G/B Tron but I imagine G/W has a pretty easy time against DSJ between Path and all the sideboard hate they can pack.

>Playing?
5-Color Super-Friend Tron
>What do you think about counterspell in modern?
It's what the format needs. As a "Tron" player, my deck is basically a combo deck so control is my natural predator but I don't have to worry since there aren't any. Consistent & cheap counterspells that don't just delay the inevitable(ala Remand) are what would make control good. If they don't bring that in they really need to bring back a good quick finisher for the control shell, like Twin.
>What is your opinion on control?
I play it 95% of the time, especially in Draft/Sealed. The only reason I'm playing my 5-color Tron is because I don't feel it's good right now but the day it is I'm ready(clutching cryptically and JTMS should the deck be a thing again.
>Do you think there is anything hurting the format?
I woulda said Dredge and Infect but those both got nerfed so I'd say the formats okay atm. Still need real control in the format though(lantern doesn't count) imo.
>>
>>52460311
>As a "Tron" player, my deck is basically a combo deck so control is my natural predator
I don't know about your memey tron variant but regular Tron shits all over control. Tron is a huge part of what's keeping real control out of modern.

>Hating?
Prices on Liliana, Snaps, and Goyf. I have everything else, but I refuse to pay the prices they ask so I do without.
>What do you think about counterspell in modern?
Would be perfectly fine. Double blue is enough of a drawback- we already have plenty of similar dispruption.
>How do you think it would affect the meta/other archetypes?
As fast as the format is, I'm not sure if we would ever see a true draw-go style control deck. Might give control decks more game against Tron though. If it becomes too oppressive we have a gigantic selection of counter-hate in modern already.
>What is your opinion on control?
I enjoy playing against it, but rarely with it. It's not a play style I'm very familiar playing with, but for some reason I love baiting spells and grinding through removal.
>What do you think would be a healthy addition to Modern? Are you opposed to supplemental product?
I'd love for WotC to print some older cards that aren't quite Legacy viable, but might could find a place in modern. Counterspell being one of them. Flametongue Kavu, Plague Spitter, Braids, Cycling lands, the Decrees, Cabal Therapy, Pillage
>Do you think DSJ will die down or is it here to stay? Does it have a natural predator yet?
It's here for awhile. Something will crop up to counter it if it becomes too prevalent.
>Do you think there is anything hurting the format?
Lack of decent cantrips. Just ban the Storm wincons besides Dragonstorm so we can get a few rituals and the cantrips back.
>>
>>52462963
The deck plays 3 nobles and 3 liliana of the veil. You also need two untapped black sources, one of which must be green. I realize this isn't impossible but I wouldn't call it consistent by any stretch of the word.

I think it'll stick around, though I do think cracks will show eventually and push it down to the lower half of Tier 1 once the meta adjusts to it
>Do you think there is anything hurting the format?
Honestly, Death's Shadow is hurting the format a little. I feel like if you're playing Black you have to play DS or you're not playing optimally. And DS is a package deal: you get DS you get Thoughtseize and Street Wraith with no drawbacks, you can fetch/shock all day. You apply an insane clock while also stripping answers. I think the meta can and will shift around it, however.

Only if you can back her up with discard and lots of removal. If your opponent can only get 1 creature on the board lili is fantastic, if they can put multiple creatures down she's just a 3 mana edict and dies immediately. There's a reason only GBx style decks play lili, she fits those decks perfectly but doesn't slot into anything else.

Finally a real reason to play blue. RIP Twin.
>What is your opinion on control?
Respect it, takes more skill than I have.
>What do you think would be a healthy addition to Modern? Are you opposed to supplemental product?
Some kind of card that could support a deck that preys on non interactive decks to reduce the amount of killer Aggro in the format. Maybe an aura that lets you create token copies of a creature.
>Do you think DSJ will die down or is it here to stay? Does it have a natural predator yet?
Burn is already a natural predator IMO, it just comes down to patience. That being said, it's still early in the meta so there's plenty of time for things to shift.
>Do you think there is anything hurting the format?
DS is just another problem in a long string of overpowering threats in relation to underpowered answers. There needs to be a healthy balance between the two.

Not great right now, but I disagree with people who act like the sky is falling the moment their favorite archetype isn't the best.

Baleful Strix. I am opposed, I'd rather not have supplemental products be limited by what would be too strong in modern, and I think having some supplemental products be legal and some not would be a big mess.

>>52477154
Infect is not good anymore anon. it lost gitaxian probe and dsj became the most played deck. inkmoth is your best card against a midrange meta, plus you can try running more spellskites but it still going to be hard
>>
>>52477154

Maybe try going Bant for extra removal? Path+Condemn seems like it would be backbreaking against DS.
>>
>>52476882
>very good against all creature-based modern decks
Nah. Big Elspeth is better. Uptick to fight wide, downtick for a few big creatures.
It's just the mana cost that makes her a sideboard at most.

lotv works for Junk/Junk/8 Rack because she works well for their discard/remove gameplan, and distracts attention away from the player himself.
She fits into a frame. She does not take over games herself, nor are any of these decks built around her. They are certainly weakened without, but not crippled.

Running a Hierarch in Abzan just to get lotv out a turn early is incredibly questionable. This was the original statement being responded to.
She is good, but not that good.

Having 3 mana on 2 isn't just for Lili, there are a lot of other things you can do as well. The exalted trigger is actually relevant too since it can break goyf mirrors and help your tokens trade in the mirror.

There's also the argument that she helps under a blood moon but that one is kinda dumb since those decks usually end up bolting her anyways.

Infect is a retarded mechanic, or poison is to be more precise. It's literally just a 2nd type of damage that works exactly like all other damage to players does except it's separate, doubled, and you can't interact with it using life gain and similar effects. Poison adds nothing to the game over regular damage while essentially stopping a bunch of cards from not working when people are playing with it.

i've been fooling around with an enchantment prison build and i haven't gotten many games in but i think it should do well against dsj. if you curve out up to turn 4/5, you can essentially lock them out as they will deck out before drawing enough mana sources to deal you a single point of damage through leyline, ghostly prison, sphere of safety, etc. Suppression field, runed halo, leonin arbiter ideally give you time to stabilize

>can someone explain Modern possibility Storm

Sure thing I actually play the deck from time to time for hilarity. You basically use Possibility Storm to hardcast an Emrakul the Aeons Torn for free through its trigger thereby getting you a free turn and then attacking, the old method was to use Ornithopter but this prohibited you from playing any artifacts but the new thing to do is to use Endless One so you can now play mana artifacts like Pentad Prism.

So what you do is get Possibility Storm on the field, cast an Endless One, Possibility Storm replacement effect happens and starts exiling cards from the top of your deck until a creature is revealed, since Emrakul is the only creature in your deck you get to CAST it for free through Possibility Storm's effect thereby getting the Timewalk effect of the cast. Attack next turn with Annihilator 6 and you should more or less be able to win from there on out.

Funny thing is it's actually quite difficult for them to interact with trying to remove your Possibility Storm since they'll end up casting something random instead.
>>
>>52479674
The Voices help there. Also there's not many people playing remand these days.

2bh these might single handedly breath life into loam decks, which as an archetype has been suffering for years. they're decent, just niche m8

you're not going to believe me but I forgot about snapcaster

i'll add him and see how it goes

-2 dank dwellers, -3 meme in the ice, -1 izzet charm, +4 stormchaser mage, +1 mana leak, +1 vapor snag
>>
>>52483372

Why not play 1-2 copies of Wandering Fumarole as an extra beater if needed? I know the CIPT doesn't warrant a 4x but you could probably run 1-2.
>>
>>52483372
Get rid of 1 Steam Vents, 1 mountain and 1 island.

Replace with 2 Blue/AnyColor fetch and Red/AnyColor fetch.

-2 Dank Dwellers +2 Stormchasers.
-3 Thing +2 or 3 Smug Caster and/or 1 more Leak
>>
>>52483372

Could probably run Sulfur Falls as painless duals.
>>
>>52483524
>>52483691
>>52483737
>>52483794

Aight, dank dwellers removed, 3 more fetches in, 4 snapcasters and stormchasers

Overall lower curve and more fetches for searing blaze should do wonders

And for sulfur falls, I actually prefer spirebluff as fastland, but I could try it
>>
>>52475851
Is this bait or are you an idiot?
These are great nigga. All the usefulness of duals, now on the much beloved cycle lands
>>

How does it feel that bogles masterrace just rekt a jeskai control shitter?
>>
>>52483880

I would cut Searing Blaze altogether and replace them with something else. You aren't running enough fetches to have reliable ways to trigger the landfall condition, if you look at Burn they're running 10-12 fetches to have reliable triggers for it.

Up the mana leak count to 3, play the rest as Boomerang. You have a pretty solid mechanics of a tempo deck and bouncing their only land with Boomerang when you're turn 2 on the play is backbreaking in some matchups. Also if you're going to run Goblin Dark Dwellers, you gotta run Boom//Bust. Young Pyromancer could also be considered as a card choice.

Unsubstantiate in the sideboard for the decks that play copies of Cavern of Souls.
>>
>>52484172

Is there a stream going on?
>>
>>52475851
Horizon Canopy is $30, and these are better because they don't take up your landdrop to cycle, meaning if you cycle into a land you DO need you can play it.
>>
>>52484201

It really goes faster now. Maybe I shouldn't need the extra 3 fetches but they help thinning the deck a little bit
>>
>>52484679
>boomerang
>rift bolt
just stop
>>
>>52484679

You shouldn't really care about deck thinning anyway, if you really want to thin your deck out a bit you can play Thought Scour and you have Snapcaster to flashback whatever gets put in the graveyard, mind you I wouldn't play Thought Scour unless you had some sort of Delve payoff. The average cmc of your deck is like 1.5/2 cmc. Also i'd play Thing in the Ice over Stormchaser Mage because you will need TiTi for the aggro matchups that go wide. I would definitely consider putting Young Pyromancer somewhere in your deck.
>>
Different anon than Izzet memester over there. But why doesn't dark dwellers see play? Its such a good curve topper for midrange
>>
>>52483372
>>52484679

imo you should choose between prowess and countermagic. in a deck with so many counters you'll often be swinging or just 1 or 2 damage because you have to hold up mana to interact on their turn. if you want to run a lot of counters, play pyro instead of swiftspear desu.
>>
>>52484947

It does or did see play. Patrick Chapin ran it in a Grixis Control shell when Ancestral Vision was unbanned alongside Boom//Bust to cast the Bust side for free.
>>
>>52484947
>5 mana 4/4

That's why
>>
>>52484679
I've got some feedback if you want, I played UR delver a lot last summer but that was before death's shadow was really a deck and grixis control wasn't really popular. I think you're favored against death's shadow but grixis seems like a nightmare matchup.

I really recommend young pyro over stormchaser mage, going wide gives you some game against decks with spot removal and stormchaser is atrocious with counterspells.

Boomerang is a meme, the games where you curve delver into boomerang your land never happen. Go up to 4 vapor snag though, it's one of the best cards in the deck and the reason to play UR over grixis.

Cut rift bolt, you want your burn spells when you draw them. I ran a couple of burst lightnings and an electrolyze.

I trimmed down to 2 snapcasters, it's really not that good unless it's flashing back lightning bolt. You're also basically always low on mana since you only have 18 lands and 4 cantrips.

Spell snare and spell pierce are better than mana leak for the same reason. You want your interaction to be 1 mana. The only reason you run remand is because the fact that is cycles is huge. I would play 1 mana leak at most.

Up to 8 fetch lands is fine. You really want your first two lands to be duals. Only 1 basic mountain though. If you ever have more than one basic mountain in play you won't be able to cast your spells.

Play 2-3 blood moon in the board. It gets you free wins. If you wanna get cute you can play a desolate lighthouse, a batterskull, and a keranos also. Ancestral vision also might be good but I haven't tried it.

>>
>>52485027

>Boomerang is a meme

It's not, while being able to bounce a land on the play is great that's not the only reason to run it but there are times when you want to push back that Eldrazi Temple. Right now being able to answer any resolved permanent you can't get rid of(especially Chalice set to 1 in first game when on the draw etc.) While i'm not advocating that Vapor Snag be 100% replaced by Boomerang, Boomerang is actually a good card to run a few copies of maindeck right now and can be emergency short removal for things you can't bolt or if you don't have Vapor Snap. Times have changed.

I can, I kept telling people not to sell out because the deck is still good, it just plays a tad slightly fairer by not winning turn 2 or turn 3 and consistently has a winning spot on turn 4 or turn 5. My stupid friend sold his Amulet Bloom deck and he never played a single game with it after building.

>>52485639
some people splash white for nahiri or other planeswalkers, im only considering splashing a color that gives me enchantment removal or something to deal with combo -- this is the absolute worst matchup for the deck

Aetherflux Reservoir is far and away better.
SS is still just a shitty casual deck, and it's not hard to sideboard responses in, but if we're talking about it, at least talk about it right.
