Lame idea of the day:
I see many complaining about HFY and Humans being protagonists everywhere etc.
So what about setting where humans would be evil and antagonists.
Like situation, where elves, dwarves etc accepted humans as their overlords, but their cruelty and tyranny was so unsettling that eventually they revolted, defeated them and wiped them out, banishing them to Hell. And now, humans are rising again, to reconquest their previous domains. and as Elf, Dwarf, etc Hero, you must fend of these tyrants.
It was just a shower thought so please dont judge me hard

So every human is Doomguy?
Make dwarf a Dorf Fort dwarf and every elf genocidal and you've got a setting I'd play the fuck out of.

*every dwarf

Relegating an entire race to Evil Tyrant Faction is almost always cheap and gimmicky. Especially when that race is humans because then it just feels like the author is making some kind of ham-fisted statement (even if they're not).

They didn't think that when they assigned 99% of dragons to that faction in skyrim, now did they?
I meant the General outliner. Of course there would be some peaceful human towns that separated several millenia ago, far away in mountains from their tyrannic relatives (Paarthurnax reference).

HFY isn't limited to humans being the unstoppable good guys y'know. Unstoppable bad guys is just as good.

A 'humans are cthulhu" campain where the pc's are evolved mice, rats, ect, ect. living in the deep woodlands like in the mouseguard. game starts when the PC village gets gassed and things get wilder from there.
The scientists from (not)NIMH become ever more aware of the rodent civilizations that have been popping up right under their noses and they begin working to globally wipe out the competing species. Abducted populations of rodents being used as black ops. game eventually movfes to the urban setting where the PCs raid the human laboratory and fuck over their messed up experiments and delay the stompage.

You can always rip off Dark Souls with human undead and dark signs.

Except HFY is almost entirely about pigeonholing races to an extreme (usually to then say 'but see how great humans are by comparison'), so this does seem pretty reasonable as an offshoot of such.

Well, the point is that they are stoppable and they must be stopped
I've been wanting to run a game where the players think they're humans, and an unstoppable biomechanical Lovecraftian armada invades their planet.
Turns out that the players are just human-shaped simulacrums made by some run-away AI, and the Lovecraftian armada is 'just' some corporate clean up crew. Even if the players manage to defeat the armada, more will come. And if those are defeated, the corporation will just send a search-and-destroy crew. And if that won't work, there's always the UN Spacy.
But I dunno. Sounds a bit mean to sic some existential cosmic post-cyberpunk-horror on a game that on first glance appears as military space opera.

Basically you end up with 40k and the worst parts of its fanbase.
The IoM couldnt be more of an uncaring fascist dystopia that would rather murder-suicide the entire human race into oblivion for nothing than try literally any other plan. The ONLY thing that makes them sympathetic is that they are human.
But it turns out thats enough. People sort of just assume that the human faction is their viewpoint unless you give them no choice.
You can make your humans as dogshit evil as you want, but you will inevitably attract some group of idiots who think they are in good company. "Hellsatan did nothing wrong, those 13 billion non-humans got what they deserved for wanting to own land. HUMANITY, FUCK YEEEEEAAAAAR"
That's basically Brandon Graham's Prophet, so I'm 100% in favour of it.

This is still HFY but antagonist flavor.
It would be more interesting if humans were orcs/goblins of setting. In sense of servants/slaves of evil overlord or bunch of bandits raiding and pillaging villages
I'd play the fuck out of a drifters style game as an elf or a dwarf fighting against hitler

Dragons are monsters so nobody cares.
