Cultists only really exist to die and take points; they're not worth it for 50 points and any upgrades make them massively overcosted;

A guardsmen infantry squad costs 50 points as well, but they get flak armor AND free lasguns AND they can take special weapons AND their sergeants get actual options.

If I were to kit out cultists with autoguns it'd cost 59 points for a whole unit, and they'd lost their extra attack from having a pistol and CCW, and they'd still only have a t-shirt save.

Cultists are the worst unit in the CSM codex other than defilers and apostles.

Stormsurges being walkers makes too much sense, even by GW's usual standards. The whole explanation behind MCs for them and Eldar is that they were agile compared to clunky Imperial walkers. However, the Stormsurge is basically designed to be clunky.

It even has 2 pilots.

Being an open-topped knight in regards to armor and hullpoints is entirely fair. If anything, I'd say to give it Slow and Purposeful while they're at it.

I put Neutron lasers and the extra heavy stubber on them. that's 120pts/model. the manipulator isn't worth it, it's way too expensive and iwnd isn't great on three wound models.

sometimes if I want to save costs I'll keep the eradication beamer on em. There's not a lot of fliers in my local meta but I sometimes bring one and only one icarus array onager, solo, if I'm playing the nids guy.

Infiltrators are highly situational. they'll all die really quick your first game with them but they're very good if you keep them hidden and try to make your opponent forget about them.

Trade out one of the warbosses for a Big Mek on bike with Kustom Force Field, also get a lucky stikk on either the warboss or big mek.

Swap bikes around to get a full unit of 15, then make a biker "deffstar"

Have the smaller units of bikes just be objective grabbers, avoid fights with them. Abuse the fact that you have ObSec on bikes.

And don't forget your free scout move for starting Zhadsnark attached to a unit.

Infiltrators are worth it if you can work them properly. Flechette Blaster + Taser Goads allows them to take all comers as you bury shit in dice, and you can fuck with people by using Protocols alongside the Aura to make your opponent hit on 5+. Dunestrider + Infiltrate + Stealth makes it pretty easy to cover hop and get them into combat, provided you manoeuvre them well to avoid getting shot into oblivion.

They fill a very similar niche as Assault Marines, albeit slower. Stealth makes their life getting across the table easier, though, despite their more fragile statline.

They're alright. The big downside they have is having only a single shot at BS 3. I've seen a lot of games where they'll struggle to do work due to low volume of fire. Markerlight support helps that a lot though.

If i go to play some pnp or 40k (lgs is quite large and has game nights till 2am on the weekends) there are three kinds of people. The first don't care and treat you like a person. The second are either that guy or become that guy and find a way to be terse, exclusionary, snobby, rude, and / or power-gamey even if they otherwise have a decent reputation. It's like what the fuck did I do to you? The third, and smallest group, while not being fit, kind of fall into the first group but will show interest in getting fit and ask questions about getting in shape.

Also, ugly or cute, fat or trim, every girl at the place has a weird way of trying to make their presence known to you. It's embarrassing. I just want to play some 40k.

The 3++ save for my Tyranid HQ is nice, but not very fluffy. The bonuses for my Chaos Marines are nice, but not really something needed to justify those two fighting.

Ideally, I would want to use it with Deldar to make an actual Chaos Eldar force, but that's really narrow and not worth building an army around in hopes of playing one particular faction.

Normally I'd say no flakk havocs but you don't have much else you could take instead that could do anti air anyway (other than some sorceries)

Iron warriors might be better for your Decurion so that you can give the Lord the Fleshmetal Exoskeleton and all your dudes stubborn/FnP 6+.

I can't speak much for the Night Lords Fear thing, the main issue with Fear in general is that on the units it affects, with the exception of Eldar and the unmarked Legions, it usually doesn't matter; there are so many fearless/ATSKNF units in the game that generally the only thing you'll cause fear on is guardsmen and firewarriors, both of which have access to leaders/buffs that make them fearless.

So yeah, all I'd recommend would be to switch to Iron Warriors and take the Fleshmetal Exoskeleton instead of the stormbolt plate. Your Havocs will get Tank Hunters too, which might make it better to take autocannons.

I actually prefer Night Lords for the nat 2+ jink on the Chaos Lord (I play around him, he's modeled as Zakk Wylde), free nightfighting (there's almost only shooting armies around) and +1 cover, and also the super useful "reroll all failed charges" shit. I don't use fear at all. The havocs actually don't have anti-air, but that's ok because there ain't many flyers around

I've always wanted to run a wych cult. The problem is that wyches really aren't that good. Like, at all.

WS4 S/T3 I6 6+ with a 4++ in melee and are 10ppm. They have combat drugs, but half of them are worthless. What the shit is +1I going to do for a model with I6? With a decent drug roll and a 4th turn charge when they have furious charge and feel no pain from power from pain, they might feel like a dedicated melee unit.

Still, oh well. The leader gets a Haywire grenade and a 4+ poison power sword at least. If I soften them up from afar first, maybe they'll do fine if I work a hammer/anvil with the Reavers.

I tried a list once with IW against Tau that was a bit similar, but it was a Warband+Fist of the Gods.

I had Autocannon and Missile Havocs and a Bike Lord with the Fleshmetal Exoskeleton.

I rolled the 4+ FnP warlord trait and basically had a budget smash fucker that ended up punching his Stormsurge to death.

The 6+ FnP mainly helped when they got shot at by lighter guns, but Stubborn was the real MVP; I gave 0 ground during the game because of it.

Yeah man. I first started fists because I thought they're ultras without that superiority complex bullshit. Then their chapter tactics are great. Then their 30k legion rules are amazing.

At first glance they look like a shooting legion with disciplined fire and tank hunters, but man they rock in assault too.

Their templars are one of the very best loyalist assault units and they have some of the best terminators available to anyone. Storm shield sporting, assault cannon wielding, teleporting fucking terminators.

I know people think phalanx warders are garbage but I've had amazing luck with them once i figured them out. Don't use them proactively the way you would termites, templars, vets, or support squads. Use them reactively. I make them expensive by loading them up with power axes, but combine that with their bolt pistol shots before chariging and hammer of wrath attacks for shield charge, you get a decent amount of "attacks" in before combat has even started. They also effectively have toughness 5 and so are immune to a lot of Id. Give em an apothecary and use them to rescue units from assaults you don't want them to be in.

I have found myself with a block of free time after a while of being inactive and I want to start playing again.

I want to run a Sisters of Battle/Scions list in a fluffy, attack dogs of the church sort of way, I am going out of my way (and my mind) to find some Sabaat pattern helmets to put on these Dream-forge models. I've seen a few people do the sisters conversion with them which look quite good but I was thinking of using their Jaegers as Scion stand ins. I'm looking for opinions on if that's acceptable. Pic related is what I'd be using as a stand in for a hellgun/scion trooper with a basic loadout. I am on the fence considering how comically large that rifle looks in the models hands let alone what a plasma or melta would look like.

I'd say Heralds of Ruin killteam, personally. There's more variety of models and interesting things you can take, and you're not as restricted with having to take full units.

The only thing I like from regular kill team is the idea of specialists to upgrade your models. Helps personalize them more.

Not quite sure what you meant by that/if you got what I meant, but only one model per unit can use a grenade in melee, so unless the chaplain isn't attached (ie not a part of the unit) you'll be making one meltabomb attack.

Also yeah, you kinda are wasting the chaplain if he's not in melee, but you're also kinda wasting the bike squad if they're tied up in melee and not shooting. You could make them work together but you gotta be extremely to not get bogged down in a multi-turn fight, so avoid big squads of weak chaff units.

Likely not, although it mostly depends on how you ask for the help rather than asking for help itself. It's kinda hard to be attention seeking without at least some awareness of it, so if you don't think you are you probably aren't.

You could maybe drop the meltabombs from the chaplain (since he has s8 from his powerfist, and the bike sergeant can make the single meltabomb attack allowed) and see if 20 points is easier to spend.

I curl 65 dumbbells for reps though. Trust me, you get to a point where you think "ah man, if I could curl 40 for reps, I'd have made it".. then it's 50, then 65, and you end up warming up with 35-40lbs. Then you watch a really skinny kid who used to be you, but didn't read or watch anything before starting, throwing their whole body into curling 25lbs and think "should i break the social contract and let him know he's not helping himself, or should I just leave it".

The same goes for shrugs. Started off at 40 in each hand, not I'm at 110.

It's tough because more often than not, they've gone to heavy for themselves, and telling them to drop a little weight could be an ego buster for some.

So you know, it took me about 3 years to go from skinny-fat 180lbs at 6'4" to 235 at about 8% bf. It took a ton of work and I really had to commit to the right diets, for both bulking and cutting. Anyone who tells you a 12 week program or whatever will get you there is trying to sell you something.

Too many points. Marines are god awful compared to the actual chaff that both your lists provide. Marines are literally ONLY EVER worth taking MSU in rhinos and that's because they're compulsory. There's too much that disregards the meager survivability you have in comparison to more numbers.
On one hand you have a blob of 20 marines at minimum 300 points with VotLW
On the other hand you can get 100 plague zombies with fearless and a 4++ for that cost.

I feel this is more viable in 1500pts than it looks at first glance. I mean, each Eversor is capable of killing or badly mauling any unit in the game other than deathstars, and has a good chance of taking even MEQ with him when he does.

All of them have melta bombs and roll 3d6 to charge.

There's 11 assassins there. How many seperate units does you average 1500pts list actually have?

The towers/core/shield gen thing is there really just because of how they want you to play.

Losing your army would mean losing the game if it was traditonal "annihilation" mode. Buildings are squishy in general and are very much meant to be forward bases around the map.

I built 20 landspeeders with multimeltas and giggled as I reduced all his tech to nothing in about 30 seconds and there was shit all he could do about it. Killing sheild generators let you kill the turrets yes, but it also gives you resources for elites/etc.

It's sort of complicated to explain without being able to use visual examples but it's not even vaguely moba-ish despite idiots bleating otherwise.

If you have their counters they die fast.

It can be summed up as "line" infantry, which are just generic dudes, die in droves and are not quite as robust as you might think. As an analogy a regular marine is pretty close to a Marauder from starcraft in terms of survivability.

Elites on the other hand have a very large hitpoint pool and take reduced damage from things that are not their specific hard counter. If they are alone and isolated they die pretty quickly.

I'd replace the sorcerer by the Heralds Anarchic formation for cheap divination, just 3 heralds with almost no stuff. Give prescience to your AC havocs and Forgefiend, this might look unfluffy but actually, using alternate models and some narrative (e.g. chaos servitors that tell the dudes where to aim at) it will greatly improve what your force already does, so it will feel both more powerful and fluffy when you play it, assuming you like the "I got 'em guns" playstyle

Actually now I think about -1 WS won't do shit unless they're Either WS 2 or 5, maybe make it so it counts as defensive grenades instead, including the ability to throw it for blinding. It's more of a support item that way.

Eh, defensive grenades would imply they're getting charged, which means they're actually dead from shooting. I think giving -1 to hit the wyches would be fine. It's their tarpit option. Hydras are their murder option, Flails are their specialist option, and Shardnet Impailer is their defensive option.

I think generally, Plasma is better for some of the targets broadsides want to shoot at, if not the range.

I'd also say you probably want to go for the same weapons for the entire squad.

Missilesides tend to be better for light vehicle hunting and anti-air, which Orks don't have too much problems with. Thus, if you're using them for allies, I would go for the Rifles and plasma which can go after higher armor targets from a greater range.

Sometimes you run in to melee armies like daemons and don't forget you can throw defensive grenades to blind squads, reducing them to WS and BS 1, that would be the main point of the net.

Bag them with the net and then swoop in to kill them on the charge.

Falt out -1 to hit would be silly vs things like WS10 bloodthirsters.

You're probably going to want to kitbash.

Dudes with some sort of range finder/bionic eye like pic related; maybe a servitor or human/cultist, give them radio equipment like a vox caster and maybe binoculars.

Also; keep in mind, Daemonic Instability makes it so they can only join units with Daemonic Instability, so any powers that affect their own unit only will be useless unless they buddy up with each other.

Pretty sure the prime is the most expensive (and also worse) T5 3 wound HQ in the game outside of special characters. It's imidiate peers are the ork warboss, necron overlord and genestealer patriach.

All of those are at least 35 points cheaper and the only one that isn't just outright a better unit is the warboss, but for the price of a prime you can buy two warbosses.

A tyranid prime is worth maybe 75-85 points, but costs 125.

Instead, certain units shouldn't be usable before a set points minimum, and only 1 per however many points may be used, and they can't make up more than a percentage of your total points.

This is how 30k does it with LoW only being taken at 2000 points minimum, they can't take up more than 25% of your force's cost, and you can only take one Master of The Legion (Character that lets you take Rites of War) per 1000 points.

Exactly. Restricted AV for point values doesn't really solve the problem. The only time a Land raider is remotely is at very low point levels where a lot of armies don't have enough anti-tank for one unless you know ahead of time.

Better would be to just restrict the actual problem units to 1 per 1000 points, and ban full on superheavies from below 1000 points.

The only exception to this for 30k would be a Rite of War that lets you take your legion's primarch as an HQ instead of a LoW, and Terminators/Veterans (and I think legion specific terminators that are elites as well) as troops, but you can't take a LoW and if the Primarch dies I think it makes it so all your units aren't scoring.

AP is only part of the problem. It's also rather easy to glance vehicles to death in many cases. Having a random chance to explode and lose 200 points to a 10 point gun isn't helping matters though.

Even if AP was getting nerfed and vehicles couldn't explode as easily anymore, it still wouldn't be that difficult to take out landraiders in low point games.

Even without it, though, stuff like Haywire and Grav just shits all over heavy AV vehicles. A single Kataphron unit, either Destroyer or Breacher, can technically kill pretty much every vehicle in a single turn. Grav Centurions can also do that to a majority of things. There's plenty of ways to either insta-pop a vehicle or to make it useless (like immobilizing a Land Raider with a cheap 200-400 point payload).

Had plenty of times where I witnessed and caused a Gorkanaut to explode or break down where it deployed, same for LRs.

Highest I know of is the Chaos Turkey and the Stormraven. Grav has enough shots to bring them down usually, since you just need to roll two 6s to cause it to immobilize and often crash. There's also options like an Icarus Array or the Ork Kannon that also immobilizes and only costs 30 points per gun.

Vehicles and AV is one of the weakest unit types this edition, there's just way too much to counter them effectively without making big cuts in your overall army strength, since most anti-AV or even AA guns are still decent against anything else.
