It wasn't a common ocurrance in the Imperium of Man that someone would bother answer the question "Why we are superior?"

Normally, someone would it you in the head, not for heresy, but for showing a serious lack of common sense. "Of course we are superior," the figure of autority would say "Why else the Emperor would chosee to protect us?" It took many reprimads in the Schoola until the now commissar Seymour Mitchell would find the asnwer he so craved.

"Because the God-Emperor, in his infinite widsom saw wour perfection" A kind priest who arrived in the second-to-last year of Mitchell's time in the Schoola "Not our perfection in war, which we are; nor our perfection of our body, which it is. No, the perfection he witnessed was the one coming from our souls. Our wrath, our joy, our sorrow and our hope, He saw the beauty from it, but he knew that if not put in order we would not be better than the xenos and heretics." He preached at his audience of one. "Our souls gives us strenght, and Him on Terra gave us the means to use it to reclaim our birthright in the Galaxy and beyond!"

Commissar Mitchell could not stop thinking about it when he looked the papers of his new assignament: the 286th Siege Regiment of the Death Korps of Krieg. An odd choice of a regiment needing the assistance of the Commissariat. The good news were that Lord Commissar explained the reason.

"The Death Korps are I would dare to say the most loyal regiments in the Astra Militarum, their faith is barely matched, their will greater than andamiatum and the ruthelessness worthy of legend. Sadly, your last mission made you a witness of what happens if zeal is aimed at the wrong direction." Mitchell cringed at the memories of the purge of Sabre Titan, were the Imperial Guard had to take down the rebels from the Cult of Redemption.

Sadly, their desire to atone clouds their jugdment and lend themselves to their deaths when they would had been more useful if they could keep their martydom until it was necessary."

"So my assignament is to make sure they don't kill themselves?"

"Your mission is to make sure they die for The Emperor AND benefits their His Dominion. Is no different that the others regiments. What changes is the means." The Lord Commissar spoke in a calm tone. "You shall be the one who makes sure their lives arent wasted, the one who reminds them of the terror of dying without completing their duties, you must the one who teach them the worth of the word 'survival'" Commissar Mitchel was beggining to dread his new task.

"It won't be easy, while they are not catachans, they are ruthless to those found wanting and if they take the wrong idea it will be you the one who will serve in the firing line."

"I can convice them their atonement would come sooner if they don't waste their lives in foolish charges"

"Even if it's true, it will take the word of Our Immortal Lord himself to convice them to drop their act. It just happens their desire for martydom was what brought retribution to countless scum and don't get me started with the rumors about them having rights to use tech-heresy by the High Lords themselves by their efficience."

"I will not mention it."

"Good. The point is: be subtle, convince them to use tactics that sate their martydom without dooming the crusades against our foes."

"Understood, I will not fail in His demand."

"Prepare yourself and read those paper to get a better idea of them. Your vehicule will arrive tomorrow at 0600 hours. Dismissed." The Lord Commissar watched as Mitchell left his office and gave a pray to Him on Earth that his trust would be not wasted.
