Don't get my hopes up, anon. We all know we're just going to go back to hating ourselves tomorrow, because we don't do anything worthwhile with our lives, and then not doing anything worthwhile with out lives because we hate ourselves.

You can't do it alone, but if you need it done that means you're alone.

Bumping for Truth!

Mr. Dressup (Ernie Coombs) was our Canadian version of Mr. Rogers. And was actually Fred Rogers' understudy for years, so he knew his stuff, and was much beloved by Canadian children during his 30 year run as a result.

I was playing a paladin in my current campaign till I died to an unlucky Orc decapitation.
I'm now playing the goblin who we rescued from being abused by Bugbears, who I converted to Torm's light.

Even when I played the standard LG human Paladin, and I slagged my party members off for being half-breeds or demi-humans or diabolists, I would have given my life for them, and in the end I did.

In RP terms that's what inspired the goblin I converted to go from our butler to a full blown Cleric of Torm

There were so many subtleties to the show I missed as a child but can appreciate as an adult. Did you ever notice whenever King Friday XIII ever made a proclamation all of the humans in Make Believe would respond "Correct as always," but when his niece Lady Aberlane would reply it was always with a slight sigh and a "Correct as usual"? Brilliant, brilliant stuff.

Hello anons. OP here. I'm sorry to hear you feel this way. But I want to plant a seed of an idea in your heads. I'm hoping that you'll take care of it, and help grow it into a big colorful flower.

It might not grow. And if it doesn't, that's not your fault. Sometimes it's not the right season to plant things. Don't worry. I've got plenty of seeds. We can try again another time.

If you feel like your life isn't worth living for yourself, try living it for other people. There's probably a soup kitchen in your town that could use another hand ladling. The dogs at the local animal shelter almost certainly want someone to walk them and play with them.

I was in your shoes a long time ago, and I know how hopeless it felt. But volunteering changed that. I had people to talk to. People who missed me when I wasn't there. People who depended on me. And all that helped me take off those depressed shoes, put on a pair of sneakers, and start jogging in the right direction.

That's not to say service will fix all your problems. I still don't have a qt3.14 gf and I'm still a good 30 pounds overweight.

But when you start giving, when you start lifting other people up, you show everyone the wonderful things that happen when we all work together. And once the whole world knows the importance of helping each other, sooner or later, someone out there will help lift you up as well.

It's going to be a beautiful flower. I just know it.

He was a big proponent of educational television for children and public broadcasting (in a time when TV was thought of only as a distraction or a best a source of news for adults) and pretty much single-handedly kept PBS (American public broadcasting, responsible for things like Mr. Rogers' Neighbourhood and Sesame Street) on the air.

He also defended recording TV as fair use, which was a contentious issue - broadcasters and tv show producers were arguing that making your own home tapes of broadcasts was stealing their property and cutting into their profits. Mr. Rogers went to bat for recording because he wanted kids who weren't at home when his show was on to have a chance to watch it with their families. If he didn't, home recording would have stopped with the Betamax.

You don't have to give up. There are plenty of folks who will run games online, and you might make some friends that way. If you're shy, text-only games are a little slower, but may be easier for you to handle. Try lurking in the gamefinder thread, and watch for a GM who's running something you're interested in.

If you just don't feel like playing with other people, that's okay, too. Sometimes we all need some time alone, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the traditional games we all love. There's a lot of single player games you could play, from wargames to board games to RPGs and gamebooks.

His childrens' show, Mr Rogers' Neighborhood, is up on pbskids.org/rogers/ if you want to see what you missed.
It was a little slow-paced for me as a kid, so I didn't watch it much, but it was nice to know that it was on, and sometimes if I was feeling down I'd switch over and watch it instead of whatever fast-paced toy commercial I usually watched. It's very comfy.

Thank you for your kind words. There's just no playerbase in Ukraine, and I don't believe in online roleplaying. Guess I'll stick to roguelikes and dungeon crawlers.

We just had a big board kerfluffle about how bad it was to make believe, and how we should instead only talk about making believe.

It's an avalanche of newfags who think cynicism and shitting on this that are generally considered good automatically makes you smarter. Any hope of meaningful discussion has long since been dashed, and the only people who have actually lost anything are the three guys still here from way back in the day.

Not about how bad it is, anon. About how happy we are now that there's a special place for everyone to play make believe as best they can, and for people to talk about different make believe games where everyone has space to have fun.

It's a beautiful day in the neighboardhood.

Do you have any friends you like hanging out with? Maybe invite them for a night where you DM?

You can make your own playerbase. you might even be surprised at who takes interest.

This 100%. The notion of "I prove my intelligence by shitting on things. If I know enough about something to condemn it, I MUST be smart" drives me nuts.

Fa/tg/uys, you want to prove you're smart? Construct a logical argument and acknowledge merits where possible.
>>
>>52308240

That special place is a ghetto, though. They were forced into it, that's not a neighborly way of doing things.
>>
>>52308245
Don't have any friends.
>>
>>52308257
That would require them to invest time and effort into constructing a logical argument when they don't even believe the effort to be worth it.

And that's the trouble, isn't it? Nothing is worth it anymore. Why even bother when it's all amounting to nothing? When even the great pyramids will vanish someday, never to resurface again from the desert?

Why bother when the same cold void is waiting for everything that lives and everything that doesn't?
>>
>>52273936
I like to believe that if society ever collapsed there'd be a religion dedicated to living by the virtues Mr. Rogers espoused. They'd be called the Neighbors and they'd never go on crusade or burn heretics at the stake, they'd just be genuine and content people spreading their good feelings over the air waves.

>The PCs are all demons of some sort
>At one point in their lives they came across a priest who defeated them with his holy power
>However, instead of destroying them, he set about to teach them the error of their ways and how to use their powers for good
>A Spider demon who terrorized a village now makes clothing for the villagers with her silk
>The Ogre in the forest cuts and plants trees and helps the woodsmen carry the wood into their village
>The water demon protects the fishermen from storms

You have to make your own meaning. Be kind, even to people who are unkind towards you, and try to leave the world a little better than you found it.
>>
>>52308957
If only I could believe that anymore.

You keep doing you, okay?
>>
>>52308460
We'd get the same thing if people followed Jesus correctly, but we've seen how that turned out. I'm not so sure that the same thing wouldn't happen to Mr. Rogers.
>>
>>52309891

I don't know, it depends on the amount of scriptures these hypothetical Rogers cultists wield. The Bible has a poor signal-to-noise ratio, and you can find a passage in there to justify just about any nasty thing you like, which allows a great deal of drift in the practice of religions that claim to be based on it.
>>
>>52310031
Doesn't help that it sends a lot of contradictory messages (like the whole thing in the Sodom and Gomorrah story where Abraham offers his virgin daughters to a rapey mob and is somehow still the good guy of the story)

It is if you want to be intellectually honest. Especially if you plan to criticize religious people, because in reality, their beliefs are no more ridiculous than yours.
>>
>>52308957
I agree to some extent, though my view on life is more hedonistic. I say do what makes you feel happy. If helping others makes you feel happy then good for you. If murdering people somehow makes you happy then go for it. Can't enjoy yourself and want to end it all? I wish you a quick and painless end.

You only have one short life, you owe it to yourself to squeeze what enjoyment you can out of it.
>>
>>52312019
There is no point in being intellectually honest. Most people aren't, like religious people as you said yourself.
>>
>>52308957

It was Lot, not Abraham
>The abridged story of Sodom and Gomorrah:
God tells Abraham that Sodom and Gomorrah (which the latter had previously helped liberate) are horribly sinful, so he is going to nuke them. Abraham (who's nephew, Lot, currently lives in Sodom) asks him to spare the city if 50 righteous people are found in them. God says he would, if it were the case, and so the patriarch proceeds to haggle the number down to 10. God humors him, and sends two angels disguised as men to Sodom. They encounter Lot, and being a righteous person who thus considers hospitality to be sacred, he tells them that they can crash at his place. The rest of the city finds out, and all the men, who have no concept of hospitality, decide that they want to rape the travelers. So they surround Lot's house and demand that he send them out so that they can gang rape them. Lot doesn't want to betray his promise of hospitality to his visitors, and realizes that the sodomites won't leave unless they get to fuck someone, so (picking what he regards as a lesser evil) he offers them his daughters instead. When they refuse and try to break into the house, the angels reveal themselves and blind the sodomite men. Since Lot and family (numbering less than 10) are the only inhabitants of either city that aren't assholes, they have Lot gather his family to leave so that God can nuke Sodom and Gomorrah. They're told not to look back while God is raining fire on them, but his wife does anyway, and turns to salt.

Later, in the mountains, Lot's two daughters become convinced that the three of them are the last people in existence, and that it is their responsibility to rebuild the species. So they proceed to get their father drunk, and fuck him in his sleep over the next two days.

How would a water demon protect people from storms? Wouldn't a Sky Demon or a Wind Demon fit better since they could actually divert clouds and shit?

What's delusional about it? I recognize that we're all just chemical reactions and electrical synapses, that life and the universe has no objective purpose and are we're all here by pure chance. So what? More power to me and to you to decide it's and our purpose for our selves. You like saving lives as a doctor, reveling in the shear fact that you exist, or maybe just playing pretend in the internet? Boom, there's your purpose, what ever it is that makes you happy or that you deem a worthy goal. Why would you need anymore meaning than what ever it is you want it to be?
I know me and any effect I could ever have on the universe will be gone as if it had never happened in a century or two. Big woop, so will everyone else given time. Why should my footprint span the universe and last eternity to be meaningfull? Isn't that just a little (ie: extremely) arrogant? What use will such a thing have after my death? None, save to those who knew me.
