So how does your girlfriend feel about your love for tabletop?

Is she a fan too, or does she shit on it?

A girlfriend would significantly cut into my mini painting and shitposting time.

Both my wife and my girlfriend enjoy board games. Which is nice as I can use them as play testers.

They also enjoy cosplay and larp.
>>

>or does she shit on it?
She better not shit on my tabletop, I just had it refinished.

Kill yourself

She doesn't mind, but she doesn't play either. We tried to get her into it, but it quickly became aparent she's simply not interested at all. So usually when the game is held in our place, she just sit in other room and watch a movie or read a book.
>>
>>52182164
She participated with me all the time. I was very impressed; we've had a lot of fun with tabletop over the last seven years, even after getting married. It's been really great.

And now she's left me for one of the other players, and I'm going to butcher him and make her watch.

She'll play any setting that lets her have a dog companion. Her characters are all over the map, but they gotta have a borzoi. Fucking loves borzoi more than me, probably. I'd go for it RL but a. co-ownership of a dog is a pretty big leap and b. we live in a city, what're we going to do with a big-ass hunting dog.

She'd been doing it before I met her, though. One of my secret triumphs is when she replaced her phone background with a picture of us and not one of the borzoi owner blogs she follows. Apparently they're their own community.

So basically she's fine with me playing fantasy so long as she gets her own fantasy, which is owning a ridiculous dog. Not too bad.

>>52182164
She played D&D in high school, same as I did, and she plays in my game now.
I also got her into MTG, and she doesn't mind board games, but she never really gets in to them either - she likes playing a character rather than playing a game.

She's kinda ambivalent.
That's fair though, she never really played any games when she was younger, and would probably get a bit confused if she tried.
Also I haven't pressed her, because she's previously said she's uninterested.

He simply states that he cannot understand why any of us (the usual gang) has time to have girlfriends and family, as it takes away from the hobby.

On a completely unrelated not, I had a dream last night where a friend called me and said "Hey Elvira just moved into town do you go hang out at her place?" to which I of course responded "Hell yeah!" thinking I would get to see a bunch of cool memorabilia. When I arrived I found out the house was only half constructed and all her stuff beside the furniture was at her old place, disappointed I sat on her couch and ate some fairly underwhelming chicken that I ended up accidentally dropping on floor and then the dream ended.

I have no idea why I had that dream, what it means or why I thought I'd share it but there ya go

In my defense, it has nothing to do with them being girls. It's just that we've had negative experience with friends bringing their gf (and bf in one occasion) to game nights in the past.
As a matter of fact, he revealed to me he hesitated too.

Here, have an opposite anecdote:
>same friend GMing a one shot
>other friend joins too
>we're going to play in his country house
>brings his gf
>she wants play
>cool
>she makes a super special snowflake noble elf spellcaster
>one shot, so who cares
>she won't stop ordering the rest of the party
>play along to get this thing moving
>she gets mad at her bf over the dumbest and tiniest things
>things escalate
>they both storm out yelling
>spend the rest of the night drinking beer with friend while they have makeup sex

I play 5e with her other boyfriend. She's not in the game. I don't particularly think it interests her directly (though she's talked about doing a game with him), but she's a bit of a fantasy nerd herself so she flirts with some character concepts in some of her doodles.

She'd probably love to play cleric, it really seems her type.

I don't have one. But I want one.
It's just hard to find the time to put myself out there though. I work 10 hours a day and work weekends. Factoring in time spent getting ready for work, driving, and sleeping, I only have 3 1/2 hours of free time a day, and that's around 9 at night.

Actually, if you go to the Chicken Ranch (or whatever it's called, it's the closest legal Brothel to Vegas) It's only about $400-$600 depending on what sex acts you'd like. Prices are negotiable, and I hear most virgins get a discount.
>>
>>52186157
Commissioned sales. Because I'm commission, not hourly, I'm exempt from Overtime laws. So I work 46-50 hours a week. I also work about half an hour to 45 minutes away depending on traffic. Weekends are our busiest days, so everyone works them.
But I've never made even close half of what I do now, so yay I guess.

>>

>>
>>52186278
It's not worth it

I won't fucking touch sales

I'm looking for a job and the cultures keep coming after me

The other day I got a phonecall that woke me out of a dead sleep (I work nights so this was at 9 am) and a woman with an Indian access to tells me they saw my resume and liked it, and I've bee. Shopping it around so I'm like oh shit cool. We have a brief phone interview and it seems like she's into me (professionally speaking) and then she just offhandedly mentions it was for fucking insurance sales. I had to stop her spiel twice to get her to confirm, and when I told her I wasn't interested in comissioned sales she spouted off a okthanksbye and hung up

Fuckers are trying to trick me.

My girlfriend wants me to run a game of MAID. I have mixed feelings about this.
>>
>>52182164

She's not a fan but she doesn't mind it. She makes fun of it sometimes but is pretty chill.

Occasionally she's expressed a passing interest in learning but I'm not really keen for that to happen. Bringing a girlfriend into a game is fraught at the best of times, and in her case I'm not convinced she could take it seriously enough not to ruin it for everyone else. (Not that trpgs are srs bsns or anything but some basic level of commitment is necessary as a player.) The only character idea she has ever suggested was 'a dwarf, mage, version of Danny DeVito. Wearing a thong.' Which I don't necessarily find encouraging.
>>
She sometimes dresses up as an LoTR elf and throws me a cheap knight costume and yells something about being her Aragorn, or whatever.

What kind of beta fuck stays in a relationship where their partner shits on their passions?

I'm not currently in a relationship, but when read: if I am, I expect partner to at least tolerate my interests. If she loves tabletop, that's great. If she doesn't, that's fine, but she should understand it's something I enjoy.

If you let someone try to change you by telling you your interests are bad, you deserve what you get.

When we started dating and talking about things that we liked I mentioned that I liked 'board games' and she told me she loved playing board games. We were both being a little bit dishonest - when I said 'board games' I meant CCG's and wargames, and when she said that she 'loved board games' she meant she liked playing Monopoly once a year on Christmas afternoon.

During the first year she tried, just like I tried to get into some of her interests (like anime). She would sit across from me and try to puzzle out the card games, the war games, the occasional RPG. As time passed and we stopped trying to impress each other, her interest faded, and these days we never play them.

And I think that's fine, to be honest. She has her things, I have my things, and we some other things that we do together. I hit up the LGS two or three times a month to play, and she's never said one bad word about my playing.

The first person I dated when I moved to this city was way big in to CCG's, and it was kind of a pain. The mostly male population of players seemed to low-key resent me for snagging the qt of the group. Every interaction with them was a sort of contest, with each of them trying to show me up at every turn. I'm not big on confrontation, so that made playing very unpleasant for a while.

Compromising like adults, on my 4chan? Madness.

I didn't say I was never in a relationship. I had a nice casual thing for about a year. I unfortunately had to move a few States away so we can't really see each other anymore. She had too much going on in her life to leave and I wasn't willing to live in Texas.

But sure, a relationship should be based in commonality/compatibility, but each person still needs to be their own person. Sacrificing all of your individuality isn't healthy.
>>
Wife hates pretty much anything to with tabletop games. At first she could compromise but lately she's gotten way more bitchy about it.

As soon as i get my own apartment it's divorce time. I don't even love her any more. It feels more like we're just living together than being husband and wife.

Never get married folks, it never lasts. The whole "True Love" schtick is just a lie perpetuated by fools and idealists. I wish i knew that before i fell for it like a sucker.

Girlfriend started out sort of hanging around on Saturday night game night as we played at my place and she lived there.

She developed a habit of interjecting at the most inappropriate moments with something cutting or just generally quite funny - this also had something to do with the amount of wine she'd drunk.

The DM finds it impossible to do a girly voice so she started getting roped in to play NPCs, then after a couple more months statted out the most magical realm character imaginable (for me anyway) and started playing.

That was about seven years ago. Still here.

My hobbies are fitness, firearms, cars, miniatures, and computers.

She certainly thinks the miniatures hobby is the nerdy/geeky-est one. But it doesn't bother her at all. Shit, she rides horses, and stable fees are 800 a fucking month, and that's not including farrier, vet, or supplements (horses eat performance food too) so she has no room to complain.

She's actually hinted that in a way she likes my miniature hobby because it means I have a somewhat artistic side, whatever that means.

Children from two parents that are genetically different have a much higher proclivity for congenital maladies. Sometimes they are also too different from either parent to accept or donor organs to or from either parent. It's fairly well known in the medical world (I'm an er nurse).

There's a reason the hottest topic in big pharma is race tailored medicine. Cellular respiration can even be slightly different between races. Drugs like Bidil exist because people of African descent are genetically different enough where heart medicine that normally works on eurasians has extremely poor efficacy on those African descended people.

Animal husbandry I think shows the biggest impact of significantly mixing. Breed two dogs that are similar but just different enough, say an German shepherd and a Belgian shepherd, and you'll get hybrid vigour and a stellar product. Breed two animals that are too different, say a Doberman and a Dachshund, and you get a minpin, which have a slew of health and behavioral problems as a breed. Hybrids that do get papers to breed, usually have the stiff requirement that they breed with one of the two breeds of their parents, to normalize the line. Second and 3rd generation hybrid vigor is very very rare and you usually end up with a very poor animal.

I assigned a point to either Elf or Dwarf based on which I prefer, ignoring ones where they agree (such as liking Boku no Pico), the Douglas Adams/Terry Pratchett split, and the JoJo/KLK one because I have no preference over their weebisms.

Humans are in the "similar but just different enough" range, though. Or even in the "basically the same" area, given how most modern races have significant historical interbreeding.
>>
>>52190609
Yes, but it has to be done with animals that are significantly similar but just different enough. The introgression of DNA has to be supplemental. Hence why I used the examples I did.

This happened in humans too. Coincidentally all within 150 years in various locations around the world, and all due to political consolidation. Tokugawa Japan, Tudor England, Qing dynasty Manchuria, Hohenzollern Prussia, to name a few. Basically what you go due to political consolidation was the heavily pushed marriages of once rival families or disparate peoples that would never have mixed before but are encouraged to to secure the political hegemony of a ruler. This mixing of significantly similar but just different enough peoples coincides with an in jump of high single to low double digits in these regions and an explosion of enterprise, literature, art, culture, ethics, economy, philosophy, and societal systems that catapulted them to be amongst the most powerful in their respective regions within a century.

Like that's going to happen for some time. I spend too much time focused on uni work, and sadly years of listening to my mother's stories of either growing up or being in the military have left me with unreasonably high standards.

Plus, its just hard to find a girl I like. There are only a few girls in my field of study, and I don't care too much for them. Most of the girls that I go to church in lack that certain fire or ambition I like. Normie girls are generally unappealing to me, especially really pale girls. And even though I tend to get along well with Asian girls, It always feels awkward because growing up my family has always hosted Japanese exchange students, so they tend to feel too much like a sister rather than a prospective gf.

Add in the fact that I'm a sold 4/10, a 5'9" manlet, and a literal autist who ironically cannot stand to be around other autists, my chances are pretty dang slim.

All I want is to one day find my own Sarah Conner, Ellen Ripley, Samus Aran, or Nabooru. Its just not fair.

Honestly I don't give a fuck. When the day comes that she notices I disappear for 8 hours a week and demands an explanation I'll reveal my deep dark secrets of dice rolling and barbarians. It should be a good lead-in that I paint a lot of fantasy/scifi landscapes and some Tin-Tin tier comics in my spare time but if its real she'll understand.

Or we'll compromise
>I give up dice rolling until I'm old and boring anyway
>she gives up her breast reduction until they're hitting her knees
>>
>>52191003
>Really bothersome medical conditions

This plus more. Temperament, while influenced by environment is also strongly dictated by genetic expression. Animals are bred for desired temperament, humans are no exception. Mixed children statistically do quite poorly at academics and have a much higher proclivity to dysfunctional adulthood and crime.

Like I said, you can do what you want, but for me, I wouldn't fee ethical in saddling a kid with this like I don't feel ethical in saddling them with debt that they'll have to pay the interest in because my government is crap with money.

Nah, that's the aspergers. I developed the inferiority complex as a defense mechanism due to observing how other aspies tend to be vain and convinced of their objective superiority in everything, so I cultivated a sense of self loathing to keep me from turning into a Sheldon Cooper brand of asperger. And yes, that kind does exist, and I've seen too many of them in school and support groups than I'm comfortable with. Really though, aside from the confidence issues in regards to finding girls, it has worked wonders in helping me learn and behave as a proper and somewhat productive member of adult society without having to rely on considerations and disabilities nonesense

Religion is the original nerd crack. Star Wars and Marvel comics came later.

Well, first of all I had a highly supportive family and a good church life growing up, plus the idea of not only someone who will always love and care for you, but also a specified and codified system of atonement and forgiveness for wrongdoings and sins that required action on the part of the belligerent greatly appealed to young me and my huge justice boner.

As I grew older, I had a lot of support to get further in to the study of scripture and doctrine, and to channel my energy into that. Combined with the bit where the concept of the existance of the "unmoved mover" seemed intuitive to me helped continue my interest in religion.

Further, it was also my local church and youth leaders and the adults there that helped provide a great amount of emotional and academic support during adolescence, as well as their support for me in the Scouting program and their constant push for my to strive to always improve in life and scouting, and was what helped me eventually get my Eagle.

Also, the metaphor of the "refiner's fire" really appealed to the sword-nerd in me greatly.

Then once I got into College, and started taking my intro to philosophy classes, I immediately fell in love with existentialism, particularly of Kierkegaard, as it helped give me even more backbone and personal connection to me religious upbringing.

I guess it really boils down to how good of an experience you've had with religion growing up, and how much the people there are willing to teach you and feed into your autistic desire for knowledge and learning.

Also, as I grew older and learned about other religions, I felt the doctrine of the LDS was a lot more appealing to me than other religions and sects. They tend to be far too depressing for my taste.

Communication. If you're talking about and established relationship, it becomes a wee bit trickier because as >>52187928 said, a lot of people will take that negatively versus if you are upfront with it from the get go.

I would personally say explore why exactly you want to get a girlfriend. Are you just wanting more sex? More connections? A distraction? Yadda yadda - there's a lot of different types of non monogamy out there, and 'opening up' the relationship to new sexual experiences versus dating new people might go better. Regardless, I tend to recommend people read "Opening Up: A Guide to Non-monogamy" for a perspective on it / communication techniques.

Buuuut, yeah. You're in for a tricky spot. If you just spring it on your wife that you want to get a girlfriend, she is likely to take it really negatively. If you already *have* a girlfriend (I don't think you are), then you're just a shitty person for cheating on your wife.

>and we all share some DNA, and the same number of Chromosomes.
Not him, and I agree with your sentiment, but outbreeding depression in animals of the same species but different ecotype is a thing.

Its the same reason why you can't breed turkeys from Florida with ones from Virginia, why ecologists are almost always hesitant to introduce new members of a species in a local population, and why plant breeding between ecoregions generally fails.

Just because two individuals are the same species doesn't mean they'll breed, as often times depending on how the genetic make-up is different between ecotypes you can instead get an offspring that possesses the worse traits from each parent, or otherwise have lowered fitness.

Granted, its hard tpo determine which individuals will have outbreeding depression between them, and it is often not as deleterious as inbreeding, but it still is a very real issue that exists in ecological management and animal husbandry.

Whether that also applies to humans, however, is a whole other issue that I refuse to have any stake in. Especially because I find black girls to be sexy as all hell
>>
>>52192432
Yeah, I know it's real for dogs and other animals but nobody has done a study to see if its true for humans as it'd take not only willing subjects but you'd have to have an unethical level of control over their lives. The answer would probably be that it really doesn't have any overt harmful effects, if any effect at all. Also wouldn't it be impossible to have a control, in the case of such a study?

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it wrong. You are quite objectively incorrect. Seriously. Big pharma is spending big in race specific medicine. So you link me to video which points out that there are no 100% pure Homo Sapiens Sapiens on this planet. Then to a professor who says exactly what anthropologists and sociologists have been saying for a very long time, races exist both as a social construct, and there are physical differences between them, which is what allows an anthropologist to identify someones race from their skull and bones. As a bonus, to further scare /pol/tard conspiracy theorists, believed that genetic Ashkenazi Jews, have a higher intelligence than everyone else, as a trade off for higher incidence of genetic disease because they were isolated for a very long time.

I don't care what big pharma is doing, or that they are making drugs tailored to different races of people. It is blindingly obvious to anybody with a functioning brain that there are some genetic differences between people of different skin colors and whose ancestors evolved to deal with differing climates.

For you to assert, when 0 proof is out there, that interbreeding with a different skin color is detrimental to the health of any child of such a union is a horrible and fucking stupid assertion. Homo Sapiens Sapiens, has no subspecies officially recognized by any university or journal of any kind, that I'm aware of. Humans have shown many thousands of times that there's no more or less risk of genetic disease whether someone breeds with a nigger or not. Most of the time, it's just luck of the draw.

Neither of these Articles are proof that interbreeding is detrimental, a fringe case of a poor 4 year old child with leukemia, who happened to be 1/4 Indian or so, who needed a marrow transplant and there wasn't one in any of the registries world-wide because they're incomplete, and have mostly white marrow donors, thank you for pointing out like most everyone has said many times, that health care is shit all over the world.
The second shows that different races have different risks for heart attacks and in some, definitely unlucky cases, mixed black/european children get a specific gene that increases risk of heart attacks, the number one killer of all humans everywhere who survive to old age, not all europeans carry this gene, and not all mixed kids are gonna get it, you are not convincing me that inbreeding has highly debilitating risks for humans the same way it does for animals because, there is no evidence for it.

>>
>>52193109
Nobody said it's highly debilitating. What they said was they don't feel right exposing their potential children to that kind of risk

>some, definitely unlucky
It's not merely some. You just read the abstract didn't you. It's a major reason why heart disease is so prevalent in the African American community. Denying it is doing them a huge disservice.

Look, I know challenging preconceptions is perturbing. But c'mon man, look into it yourself. As another anon described with his turkey analogy, going blindly into this thinking everything will be just fine while ignoring the science is unethical. Ignoring the science because of preconceptions is closed minded. At the very least take this information into account instead of just dismissing it out of hand.

My wife likes the idea of dnd but isn't very good at playing it.
Had her in my Curse of strahd campaign with some other friends.
She'd come home and criticize how none of the other group would really roll play.
Throw countless RP scenarios at her, to which she's caught like a deer in head lights.
I mainly just play at the local game store Tuesday nights now.
Some times she will exclaim I WANNA PLAY. Then I'll say ok I'll sign us up for a Saturday game...oh anon I dunno generic excuse #2749282647392028.

Let me tell you a story about how I met the best group of people I ever played a game with.
My gf was studying math+comp.sci, and had a group of math girl friends. So, one of those froends had a b-day party. I tagged along. The other boyfriends were there too. We didn't know eachother well back then, and we were kinda awkward until someone spouted a /v/ meme. All of a sudden, all the awkwardness dissappeared and we clicked. Started talking about hobbies, which were basicaly all of 4chan. And then we decided to play an impromptou pf session. It was a blast.
The girls were getting tired and we all had to break it off at 3 in the morning because every one of us was promised sex as a reward.
>>
>>52193324
You implied it was or could be, not my fault that you weren't clear.

27% of Europeans carry the gene pointed out in that study, and 1.6 percent of Africans have it, showing prior interbreeding at some point. The risk that those children could but not WILL have is not high enough when healthy living counteracts most of the risk of heart attacks. It is also not the reason Africans are prone to it, they are prone to it for the same reason they're prone to diabetes and obesity, their genes are heavily weighted towards being in an environment that requires high levels of activity to get food, and one that is also VERY warm, in wealthy temperate developed countries like the USA, those conditions are no longer in effect and thus you see an outbreak of heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

I am doing them no disservice by not believing you, none whatsoever, my mind is open, and I fight my preconceptions all the time, this is not a case where the facts support your conclusion, sorry.
>>
>>52193458
Forgot to mention that none of the math student girls knew jack shit about tabletop, vidya, or anything else for that matter.
>>
>>52191717

IIRC teh church was so intertwined with science in the west because a) they were the ones who actually kept/read/made the books from the fall of Rome until some centuries later, b) they were the only place to go to get an education (ie. university), and c) they could rely on the community to help support them, so they could spend more time thinking about shit.

Yeah you do. You just sound like a know-it-all who doesn't like their positions challenged. Your ego is somehow invested, you said so yourself, you therefore can't be objective about it. By the way, saying that you yourself is open minded is like telling others that you're a good person or that you're smart. If you fee the need to tell people, then you aren't . Just one of those things.

We're done here.
>>
>>52193668
I cannot. It is unhealthy to be so infatuated with a fictional person. You are closing yourself off from the real world, convincing yourself that wishful thinking is happiness when you are dying inside. No matter how much you delude yourself, some part of you knows that you're killing yourself inside and every day furthering doom towards a lonely pitiful existence completely detached from society. You need to stop this and work to better yourself.

No, you're wrong there and you sound personally hurt. My ego, was not involved in our argument, it was involved only in a discussion of your assertion with another Anon, and only in that he said I made a mistake in my science, I did not.

The whole calling myself open-minded thing, you're flat out fucking wrong. You called me close minded, I believe that when someone calls you something you have a right, if not an obligation, to defend yourself.

Nothing that you fucking said or put forth proves more than that sometimes an ultimately small risk is raised when humans interbreed with different skin colors, not that doing it all is some kind of bad or detrimental to health thing universally. You have, at best a slightly better than 1 in 4, exactly 27%, risk of having that higher risk for heart attacks gene that only detrimentally affect africans, as a European and a 1.6% chance as an African that's from your own fucking source.

What actually happened here is you didn't like that I disproved your assertions with off-hand knowledge and your own sources irrelevance to your assertion. Next time, I suggest that you grow the fuck up and don't make aspersions about another persons character.
>>
>>52193909
Sorry m8 I normally don't chime in on these things but you sound like the one bothered by all this.
>>

I'm bothered by his assertion, because it's wrong, the facts do not support his conclusion that interbreeding is detrimental across the board. He only proved that it is in some cases and not in others which is the default state, because genetic diseases exist, all I was saying.

That last post may have been somewhat hostile but he insulted me so I personally think I'm justified in being hostile, am I wrong?

Stay strong, brother. More importantly, most of your wizard powers should be coming from the fact that the tens of thousands of hours a normal person wastes on a relationship, you have spent mastering several skills.

To use myself as an example I have: become a skilled mechanic, taught myself several programming languages, went back to school and got my teaching certs, built myself an insulated, air-conditioned shed, saved up for, bought, and then paid off my house on my own pay.

And all that's still having enough time for my hobbies! The things you can accomplish if you'd only focus on yourself are incredible!
