My players have become nobles in charge of a few small villages in western Faerun. Their major responsibilities are to resolve disputes among the peasants, pass judgement on criminals (or exhonerate the innocent), and sometimes to grant special exceptions or privileges to needy or deserving people.
What are some interesting issues that the people can petition them about?

Manor Courts
many of the disputes in the manor courts had to do with farming and property(using too much manure, ploughing another person's land)
manor courts dealt with charges of assault, petty theft, public drunkenness and other small crimes
this court would even allow serfs to sue if they felt it was unfair
manor courts were like a village meeting, most of the villagers would attend
witnesses were very important
heavy fines were enforced for lying in the court
villagers decided who won the case
representatives of the lord, called stewards, acted as judges deciding the sentence of the court (which was usually a fine)
Royal Courts
took care of serious crimes such as murder, treason, rape, burglary, poaching game from royal forests, cutting trees or even taking deadwood for fuel from royal forests
royal courts used the łcommon law˛
it was called common law because it was the same for the whole kingdom
royal courts could order the execution of murderers and theives
after the execution of a criminal the court would take away all of his or her property

Have a large group of superstitious peasants come forward demanding the murder of a small child because of some obviously stupid thing. Have them threaten revolt or some sort of civil disturbance if their idiocy isn't appeased, and the PCs should have to tapdance a bit if they want a third option.

Peasants are convinced that a red-headed woman is an evil witch, simply because she's unmarried, owns a black cat and their cattle is dying. They're right.

Given that your PCs are ennobled and are operating on the frontier they are likely authorized to adjudicate all issues as they see fit barring church issues.
Potential suits can revolve around land theft, poaching, accusation of hexes or curses, clan/fued disputes, smuggling or contraband or tax evasion, etc

This is Faerun. Magic is quite well known and spread and while peasants likely can and will be this stupid, many of these things can be determined by a court wizard
A group of rowdy adventurers has arrived. They are groping women, disrespecting authorities, refusing to pay for services and heard openly and loudly discussing if they can take on the party and loot them for magic items.
Two women both claim a baby is theirs.

Yo, that's some good shit right there.
>>52166701
Shit, better split the baby in half so each woman can have their own dead baby.
>>52166415
There is a lack of problem since they ruled so the elderly complained.

Put the two women and a pack of starved wolves at the end of a long hallway and the baby at the other end.
First to reach the baby alive wins. Obviously only the rightful mother will have the strength to claim the baby as her own.

Play king of the dragon pass. This gives you some ideas.
