My cat loves to lay on the Call of Cthulhu board when we play. It's cute the first time, after that we yell at her and she remembers her manners

In my experience dogs are one of the better behaved domestic pets. At the very least they know to stay the fuck off the table, unlike cats, ferrets or that one stoner dude.

Which type of game?

Unless the dogs are one year or younger, if you adress them and give them attention for a few minutes, they'll grow accustomed to you pretty quick and leave you alone for the rest of the evening except possibly for ear scratches.

That is unless you're a cunt.
Dogs sniff out assholes and won't leave them alone.

Bullshit. I used to date a girl whose parents owned the most annoying ill-mannered little yip dog. Something moves in a 20 mile radius, time to bark for at least 30 minutes. Something moves near me, time to bite it. Something really loud happens, like thunder or a balloon popping, time to piss and shit all over the place.

The dog was never disciplined or trained so it was just a little shit and it knew it could get away with murder. They thought it was funny when it bit people. And if you tried to shoo the beast away they went apeshit on you as if you were inhuman for disliking the rat.

Can confirm. My oldest dog (a female black mastiff) always growled at one nurse, who we found out was often too rough with our senile grandpa and there were dozens of hand shaped bruises on his hips and legs that were under bandages because 'He fell a lot'.

She was fired from her company and I was never prouder of my Beatrice for sensing the douchery.

Cats I can handle. I am giant cat. touch noses, then ignore. Unless they come for lap scritches.

Birds man... Buddy of mine has a parrot. Parrots simple MUST be allowed to roam around. Parrot is an angry little autist that likes nothing better than stomping around the gametable pecking at things. Or perching on your shoulder and screeching like a howler monkey with its scrote in a paper shredder.

Bird. Someday I will kill and cook you. I swear this.

If you live at a fucking farm, great. Having dogs running around and playing catch outside with them is fun, sure. But having a pet inside is just fucked up. They're not people, they don't love you. They've just been trained into showing you gratitude because you're their fucking master.

Literally nothing wrong with this. Dogs are love, dogs are life. The only problem is that dogs tend to stink up the place and drool over everything.

>He has pittbulls
Shit tier dogs. Every single one of them should be shot. Dobermanns and Rottweilers are more tolerable, but even then I'd say they're so risky that they should be limited to being police/military dogs. More sensible big dogs like Bernese Mountain Dogs or even Great Danes are fine though. The best dogs are the ones that are the size of grizzly bears but somehow think they're lapdogs.

I've met good pittbulls.

Yes, I'm suggesting we shouldn't

I don't think pitbulls should be shot but I'm not a fan of them either. Partly because they're kind of ugly, but mostly because even well-trained pit bulls can be unpredictable and dangerous.

My favorite dog breed is German Shepard, but they have serious hip problems at older ages because of inbreeding. Dogs with hip problems are heartbreaking.

Pitbulls are sponges, like every other dog. they absorb the attitude of their owner. I have met a neuroticly fearful pitbull that had to hide in the closet any time a stranger came over. It took me three weeks of regular visits to get it to trust me enough to stay in the same room as me.

Cats are like people in that they like to be petted but only on their own terms.

I usually just stick my hand out and if they rub against it they're usually down for petting.
>>
>>52050499
If you don't know the cat, always let it initiate. It might have just wanted the one quick legrub, or maybe it didn't see your hand coming and got startled.
>>
>>52050499
This is 90% of car behavior.
The biting might not have even been aggression.
Some cats are chill and affectionate though.
Until you die and magically turn into food.
>>
>>52047696
Large dogs are generally more friendly and personable than small dogs.

It's the little ones that typically love to bark and be bitchy for no reason. Large dogs, the ones I've had at least, are all lovable as fuck.
>>
>>52050103

What's wrong with pitbulls? You can't blame the breed because of some stereotype the media created, then niggers buying into that stereotype and buying them because they want aggressive dogs... then abusing the dogs because they are niggers.

Pitbulls being bad dogs is a self fulfilling prophecy. It's literally niggerlogic.

Besides, we mostly use German Shepard for police/military dogs. I don't think I've even heard of a police/military pitbull.

>>

If the complaint is that they are high energy... then why not also lump border collies into that same group?

Grouping pitbulls, dobermanns, rottweilers into the same group, and leaving out border collies seemed to imply that it was aggressiveness that was the problem (which is literally nigger animal abuse), not that the dog requires a lot of exercise.
>>
>>52047830
You never attempted to train your cat in any way, did you? It's not hard at all to explain to a cat that tables are off limits. Not any harder than to teach it to use a litterbox. People just don't bother with it and then wonder why their cats don't behave, although nobody ever taught them how to.
>>
>>52050836
There are certainly bad dogs. Akita Inu is actually a good example. It takes training to make them good, by default they're very aggressive. I would assume it's the same for the pit bulls.

I'm the DM and I often host our games despite having the smallest living space, because its location is most convenient. I've only got one room, so my players have to do with my cat. She usually lays between two of my players and lets herself be petted. I've taught her never to go on the table. We sometimes do dice pyramids on her.
She's something of a mascot now.

>It's not hard at all to explain to a cat that tables are off limits. Not any harder than to teach it to use a litterbox.

"Not impossible" =/= "not hard at all"
Cats take to the litter box instinctively.
Cats also take to climbing higher places, like tabletops, instinctively.

Pitts have the same hip issues. My grandparents saved one from a shelter and here they are eight years later with a dog who can barely walk because her back legs are so fucked. She has never been agressive though. I took it walking when it was a puppy and the people down the street owned a damn little rat thing which attacked my grandparents dog. She just looked confused and worried while the little fucker kept biting her. The owners managed to get it before I killed the little fucker though. They were sooo worried that their precious rodent might have gotten hurt.

>Capitán, a German Shepherd Dog, ran away from his home in central Argentina, after the death of his owner Miguel Guzmán in 2006. About a week later, Guzmán's family found Capitán standing guard at Guzmán's grave after finding the cemetery on his own. When brought home, Capitán again ran away back to the grave of his former owner. As of 2015, he continues to stand vigil over his owner's grave and receives provisions from the cemetery staff so he does not need to leave.

Sometimes it just can't be helped.

My grandmother has a type of progressive dementia. No one in the family has enough medical experience to give her the kind of care she needs, and the type of nurse that will come to your home often enough for the care she needs is too expensive.
We shopped around for nearly a year trying to find a place we were comfortable with and SHE was comfortable with. And she doesn't go more than a day or two without someone visiting her.

We all wish we could have her stay with us, but it just isn't manageable.

>>
>>52047794
It is absolutely a problem.

Traditional games require the attention of a couple of, or group of, people for a length of time. The more intricate and involved the game is (Kerplunk vs. *insert deepest tabletop RPG here*), the more attention is required for a longer period of time. Dogs, especially large dogs, ESPECIALLY multiple large dogs, require LOTS of attention, and can very easily disrupt things, sometimes catastrophically, if they are feeling neglected for any length of time.

>Hey guys WOAH SHIT close the door!
>JUST GO THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR I'LL GIVE THEM A TREAT OR SOMETHING
>ALRIGHT HEY GUYS GLAD YOU COULD MAKE IT OH THEY'LL STOP BARKING IN A BIT
>YEAH LET ME TAKE YOUR COATS WE HAVE TO PUT THEM UP ON THE TOP SHELVES OR THE DOGS WILL GET AT THEM
>ALRIGHT LET'S GO DOWNSTAIRS SOMETIMES THEY JUST BARK UNTIL EVERYONE'S SITTING
>Okay, so let's pick up where we-
>rrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooo
>What? Do you need to go outside? I JUST let you out!
>RRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>Fine! Okay! C'mon, let's go! Sorry guys, I'll be right back.
>10 mins later...
>Yeah! See? You didn't even shit! Alright, sorry about that guys, let's go. I'll start with- HEY! HEY! NO! DON'T BITE THAT! GO UPSTAIRS!
>...
>GO UPSTAIRS!
>UPSTAIRS!
>GO!
>GO UPSTAIRS!
>GO- hold on guys I gotta take the dog upstairs.
And repeat throughout the night. If the host lives with anyone, expect frequent bickering between them about whose turn it is to take the dogs for a walk and who is currently busy etc.

Multiple large dogs are very distracting and disruptive for extended game sessions.

Good trick to getting cats to not lose their composure with you right off the bat is to just let them sniff your finger or hand.
Simply extend a digit visibly without force. You don't have to slowly creep it to its face, in fact, just let it come to you.
After that, they're usually more comfortable around you. I do this a lot with curious strays.

>>

Never said I don't like dogs, you cockmongler. In fact, I happen to find them fascinating animals. My rant was specifically directed at HOUSE pets.

Using a dog as a tool for hunting or guarding a location is completely different than having a "family" dog that stays inside and learns to shit in a box so you can call him funny names and pretend he's your friend.

Animal husbandry has been completely distorted so people can buy a "friend" who has no choice in being in that made-up relationship or not.

>They're not people,
>they don't love you.
These two statements don't go hand-in hand. Dogs and cats are mammals, and while obviously less intelligent than us, they still have very simple neurochemistry. Up until recently biologists thought animals were emotionless robots, now we've empirically studied various animal psychologies and found the opposite. Elephants, for example, mourn their dead and can get similar conditions to PTSD if young elephants lose their parents to poachers. Doggos are perfectly capable of loving humans, even cats theoretically are capable of love, it's just that it's obviously more difficult to pick up on due to language/instinctual behaviour differences and the fact that we don't fuck dogs.

Literally the exact opposite. Dogs were bred for thousands of years until they became the perfect subservient pet. We find comfort in dogs because we shaped them into being what we expect from them.

> The fact that we still have dogs around is because we evolved a natural affection for them.

We can get attached to literally anything. People marry pillows, for fuck's sake.
It's just that it's socially acceptable to get emotionally attached to a domesticated dog. Dogs only seem somewhat humanlike because we breeded those features into them until they seem genuine, but don't fool yourself.

>>52057657

They can "love" you the same way a slave can "love" its master.
Your dog will never grow up and move on with his life without you. He will be forever under your constant care, forced into doing what you want, and acting how you want him to act, and if he dares run away you'll just look for him and drag him back into his cage.

They can love in the same way an autistic manchild can love a parent.
If you were talking about wolves, yeah, you'd be right, but domestication of the dog was basically breeding more and more retarded generations of wolves until they spent their entire lives with a child's mentality, seeing us as their parent and idol.
Cats are different, they weren't really domesticated in the same manner as dogs, they're basically tiny tigers. They like you, but if they were a few times bigger and hungry they'd probably attack you unless you were the nicest owner on the planet.
Try doing some goddamn research.
>>

Just so you know, a border collie is extremely intelligent and most Dog Breeds are smarter than Wolves, hence why when Wolves are docile and timid they cannot learn half the skills even a Pitbull can.
>>
>>52057700

That's why I think having dogs are house pets is a really shitty thing, you illiterate fuck.

I like dogs, as animals. The same way I admire dolphins and apes and wolves and hawks. I think they should be free to do their own thing. Unless you live at a farm there's ZERO reason to own animals, other than personal amusement, and that's a fucked up reason.

I feel bad for pets when I see them. I don't like to pretend they're "sooo cuuute!" and play with them and pretend I'm not uncomfortable with the idea.

I'd say that's a lot more empathy than calling them a "good boy" and telling them to fetch me a ball.

>>52057728

Wolves don't NEED to learn the skilsl a pitbull can because they live in the fucking wild. A pitbull, like the vast majority of dog breeds, can't go for long without a human taking care of them, and can't live at all in the wild.
>>
>>52049377
You don't know shit. Literally.
>>
>>52057744
>Wolves are docile and timid they cannot learn half the skills even a Pitbull can
Wolves don't give a fuck about humans. Wolves see us as other wolves. If a human ran over to you and started commanding you to roll over or go hunt ducks for them you'd ignore him or tell him to fuck off. This behavior appears in adolescence in wolves and it was breeding this out that "domesticated" dogs, causing dogs to treat humans like superior god-parents their entire lives, like how wolves treat their parents. Baby wolves learn survival behaviors from their parents this way, but grow out of it at the stage where there's supposed to be nothing else to learn.
Also, I'm a dog person. And my last dog was mostly collie. Collies were specifically bred for intelligence, after the initial domestication of dogs.

Dogs genuinely care about you in the most familiar way. Every other pet is just an animal in a container. Even cats are just little tigers in a house, their loyalty only goes so far as a stable source of food ( they'll probably eat you when you die because you didn't feed them that morning).

+A lot of personality if you treat it right

-Noisy
-Intelligence ranges from annoying to worrying
-Incredibly high maintenance, require lots of attention or they go crazy
-Dirty, crap everywhere
-Bird cages are disgusting
-Will ignore their toys and chew on whatever possession you like most

Basically if any pet were Chaotic Neutral, it's birds.

Stop off at McDonald's and get a 20-piece chicken McNuggets. Feed them to the dogs.

You should have to do this once, MAYBE twice, and thereafter these dogs will be your ultimate bros for life.

It also works with potato chips, or really any kind of food. There would be potential health issues from some food, but seeing as you're only doing this once or twice as a special treat to get them to like you, it's not a problem.

>We find comfort in dogs because we shaped them into being what we expect from them.

Actually the current line of thinking is that proto-dogs starting hanging out at the fringes of human camps looking for scraps. Over time, the dogs who were friendly with humans - wagging their tails, playing with children and not causing harm, being goofy, etc. - were more successful at getting food than the ones that weren't. They also - in their own animal way - studied human behaviors and adapted themselves to it. For example, dogs don't really need any training to understand what a human means when they point at something: point at something, and a dog looks at the thing you're pointing at, not your finger. Most animals can't figure that out.

Dogs, in short, appear to have largely domesticated themselves.

There is also some evidence to suggest that this happened ONCE, not multiple times, and that nearly all humans and all dogs are descended from one tribe of humans and one pack of dogs that learned how to work together and as a result out-competed every other human tribe and dog pack.

Lying like this because you don't have an argument anymore.

Sure animals can learn to respond to human expression but only dogs have the process built in from birth and have the most complex understanding ( next to humans themselves).

People think a pet is just conditioning but it's actually a long process of biological temperment and intuition as well. No other animal has the history of breeding that dogs do. It isn't anthropomorphism, we have literally forged the animal into a human reflection with similar emotions and all.

These aren't people we're keeping as slaves.
They're dogs, with a relatable but entirely different mind set.
The dog doesn't chase the ball because it wants to please, but because it has a drive to chase. They've taught us to play fetch as much as we've taught them.

The primary drives of a dog are shelter, food water, and to belong to a pack/family. They don't really have concepts like freedom or slavery, because doing what the pack's "alpha" wants is deeply ingrained in what they are. A wolf isn't really any more free then a domesticated dog. It just gets all the shit of dealing with surviving in the wild.

I don't look at modern humans and think. "How sick! They're kept in these tiny houses instead of being free to roam the savannas and forests of their ancestors!"

Its not quite the same, but /k/ occasionally gets dudes making threads to brag about shooting their neighbors' animals for coming on their property. Those same dudes go on and on about how they have the legal right to do so, and try to use that as an argument as to why they're the injured party when shooting the neighbor's cat for walking on top of their fence and leaving poisoned pieces of meat on the edge of their property. If anyone says that killing your neighbors' pets to assert absolute control of your land is a dick move, regardless of legality, the pet shooters assume they must be nogunz. To them it seems it is inconceivable that they should restrain the aggression they feel towards any given creature, unless there is a direct legal punishment to restrain them, and they seem to think this attitude is inherent to being a gun owner. Most times their responses boil down to it being their right to decide the fate of all life in their domain, which is neurotic, or teaching pet owners about personal responsibility by killing things they care about, which is moreso.

>tl;dr /k/omandos like to own guns, some like to shoot animals, but some /k/omandos prefer to shoot animals that people own

As a /k/ommando myself I can say with confidence that the people who make those threads receive far more death threats than praise.

/k/ommandos do not take the idea of their battle buddies being in danger lying down.

My grandmother has Alzheimer's and both of my parents have individually told me that if they ever get that bad to kill them.
All I could think when they were telling me this is that they were sorta implicitly telling me that they think we should kill my grandma, or if they don't they're hypocrites.
