How would you make a setting based on the most stereotypical trashy romance books?

It already exists. It's called Blue Rose.

Alright anon you got my attention. Now does any one have a pdf?

Maybe because nobody wants to look at niggers. Not even niggers.
>>
>>52007503
I thought it was because niggers where too busy reading the ones about dinosaurs. Imho that would make them have slightly better taste.

>>52007328
Same for this one.

Book of Erotic Fantasy, and the Carnal Knowledge Guide. I have PDFs of both because of morbid curiosity.

If that were a sexist male power fantasy then why would that be the art work commissioned to be on the cover of a romance novel marketed toward women?

The thing you have to remember is that the producers and artists for both the comics and the books are dudes.

This isn't to say women don't have sexual fantasy stereotypes, they just don't look like that.

They look like this.
>>
>>52011448
I fail to see the difference, other than that there's no woman in the pic to be carried

>not wanting to have several fine as fuck sister-wives so you can explore each other's bodies to distract you when your liege is off killing some unspeakable monster or putting down a rebellion
It's not even a dominance/submission thing either really, you think Conan wouldn't like being tied to the bed? At that point you're either fucking him or trying to kill him, and he's generally a fan of both.

Having to deal with his Lovecraftian level PTSD would suck, sure, but I think I could get over it.
>>
>>52011300
Can confirm, there's tons of shitty Black Romance novels, it's not all whites. Though even on the standards of bad writing they're super awful.
>>
>>52011541
Green text?
I want to know how awful they are
>>
>>52011498
Their tastes vary, just like men's tastes do. I heared one chick complain that her lovers were "thiiis thin", meaning they had too little muscle mass for her tastes. There's even women out there who like pouch bellies.
>>
>>52011570
Probably the same shit as most awful romance novels with worse prose.
>>
>>52007328

I'm going to stand up for Blue Rose a bit and say that it's less vapid then most of these novels, and that I like the idea of maintaining a utopic setting rather then the usual striving for one.
>>
>>52007304
you were looking at some pretty old romance books then. been some interesting studies on the changes in romance covers over the years, and you're stuck in the 80's, or with a bunch of authors without good sense.
>>
>>52011728
I doubt you've read any regardless of "most" of these romance novels to simply write them all off.
>>
>>52009990
When you read the book, the dudes usually have a rich inner life, a personal history that hasn't been retconned a dozend times, feelings, psychology and motivations and there are no illustrations beyond the cover.

Also, the novels usually are fun.

Fun.

They make for enjoyable reading.

So yes, the differences are staggering.
>>
>>52011300
>extinct

Borders? Are you a Michibro??)
>>
>>52011352
The point is non-existent. It is built on a single cherry-picked comparison without any wider context. There's no proof that the right image was commissioned for a harlequin novel, there's no evidence that the novel sold well or was a success, and no data as to who commissioned the work (and if it was a male marketing agents commissioning a male artist, then the comparison is particularly problematic).

Basically, for the point to stand, there would need to be a valid point made. Basic logic.
>>
>>52011207
You realize that there is some convergence in what men and women fantasize about sexually, right? It's part of why we...well...have sex.

The only consistent difference you tend to see in these is who is more naked.
>>
>>52007304
It would literally just be my regular fantasy game except the women would wait three weeks before screwing to "prove" to themselves they're not whores.
>>
>>52012441
>Romance novel
>women waiting before they fuck somebody

Top kek.
>>
>>52012497
Naw son, I'm kind of ashamed to even know this but Harlequin even had (have?) a rule for their novels about how fast the woman could move, so it wouldn't be """"trashy"""".
>>
>>52007304
I'd just run a WFRP game centered around Lahmian vampiresses with the PCs playing their swains.
>>
>>52007328
Blue Rose isn't this genre though. It's a subsection of Fantasy based on the tone and themes of the Kushiel's Legacy fantasy series.
Whether or not you like Blue Rose, or that subgenre of fantasy, it's a reasonably structured RPG for mimicking a literary tradition.

>>
>>52012533
>Harlequin

Anon, that's one company. You're basically saying that no males in comics have penises just because that's the industry standard for Marvel/DC.
>>
>>52013376
The actual sexual fantasy they're selling is in the book, not on the cover.
>>
>>52013437
Except the vast majority of complaints against male power fantasy are solely about the art, not about the content inside it or connected to it.
>>
>>52008206
So what if I were to make lord byron in this game? How would I stat him?

Cape comics don't have an audience as much as they have a bunch of fanboys sucking the dick of a bunch of corporate IDs running off the fumes of the popularity they enjoyed 30 years ago and leeching off far more competent adaptations. There's convergence, yes, and there is some overlap of male power fantasies and female romantic fantasies.

The specific argument made in the post I was disagreeing with, though, is bullshit. The author compared two specific images and said that because they were very similar there must be no difference at all between male power fantasies and female romantic fantasies. That's like saying that a+b=a*b in all cases because 2+2=2*2.

To be honest, I'd totally buy a smutty romance novel where a brave female knight rescues a charming prince and tenderly steals his virginity. Bonus points if the cover art features a female model in incredibly shitty LARP gear that emphasizes her abs and a fuccboi male model in elaborate baroque noble clothing. Extra bonus points if halfway through the novel a rival prince(female) shows who tries (and eventually fails) to NTR the female knight.

It illustrates a pattern that *does* disprove the theory.

The point is that the people who call pics like yours a "male power fantasy" as an indictment against men for having childish and harmful ideas about women ignore that media made by and for women is promoted with images that are extremely similar.

Calling things a "male power fantasy" is also a way for feminists to dismiss their own hypocrisy. They rail against unrealistic portrayals of women that cater to men. Men respond by pointing out unrealistic portrayals of men that cater to women. Feminists attempt to maintain their "men bad, women good" narrative by dismissing the unrealistic men as "male power fantasies" so they don't have to admit (or even explore the possibility) that a lot of men really *don't* fantasize about being like those unrealistic men but have a lot of reason to believe that that's what women want.

Try getting deep into the mind and feelings of a man who doesn't fit that role and watch the readers' interest die.
>>
>>52012320
>You realize that there is some convergence in what men and women fantasize about sexually, right? It's part of why we...well...have sex.
Actually, in this case, it might not actually be convergence, because men don't enjoy that fantasy as much as people think, and would enjoy the *reversal* of it far more than people think:

The latter is pretty weird to play, strangely enough.
