Newfag entering my first """tournament""" at the local GW store in a couple of weeks; How would you rate my Skitarii list?

I'm planning to just deathstar the donkey tanks in the center for dat 3++ save, pop transports with the rangers and neutron blasters/heavy stubbers, then mop up the infantry with massed cancer-rifles and galvanic casters set to shred.

No close-combat ability to speak of, but I'm hoping anything that gets into combat will be so chewed up even vanguard will be able to take them with numbers and -1 toughness ability.

Played today my first game of WH40k and enjoyed it a lot. My current Black Templar army is small one, for 500 pts and consits of:
- Emperors champion
- 20 Initiates (2 with melta, 1 with flamer, rest with pistol + chainsword)
- 5 Neophytes (sword + pistol)
- rhino

What should I be getting next to expand my army to bigger points?

Seriously, though, how do I build GKs? With everything being 24" range, footslogging is out, but at 1k, I can't use Land Raiders.

So then I think deep striking, but deepstriking everything isn't allowed anymore, because you auto-lose if you have nothing on the board turn 1.

So then I think the Nemesis Strike Force, which allows turn 1 deepstriking on a 3+. Except that just becomes "Roll 3+ or autolose".

Am I better off running my three Dunecrawlers as a three-tank squadron to get a 4++ save, or individually so I can distribute their shots across more targets?

They're only AV12 on the front, so I'm a bit concerned they'll get knocked out really quickly with just a 6++ to save them, but likewise, concentrating three neutron lasers and six heavy stubbers on a single unit per turn seems like it'd be wasting a lot of firepower.

wew lad. black actually isn't that bad, there are a lot of good tutorials on youtube. even the lazy way isn't the worst thing ever, just do abby black with eshin gray + a lighter gray highlights around the plates and such. GW does it this way and it looks fine. even doing it the painstaking way with several layers of dark grays STILL isn't as bad as the reeeeeeeeee-inducing exercise in butthurt that is painting white power armor.

Death Guard is by far the best way to run CSM, Nurgle has been the best option in general over the years. With traitor legions supplement you get discount not-plague marines, relentless everything, etc. etc. World Eaters are an assault army in a game where shooting is prioritized, so they are going to be a lot harder to win with than a shooty army.

My list isn't spectacular but I've had a fighting chance in most games, only lost 3 or 4 out of 15 with it.
Remember to keep force on the purgation squad so you can mulch monstrous creatures. The termies aren't built for charging, but if they are gonna end up in combat be sure to cast hammerhand. Use the babycarriers teleporter to drop near a squad of infantry, heavy incinerator + blast psycannon = ded

World Eaters requires a pretty good understanding rules to get those first turn charges off into the units that need to die.

in the end it's always best to play whatever you enjoy the most though. don't buy an army you like because of its rules, buy it because you like the models and lore. the meta is always changing so if you buy based on rules and then your army changes from strong to weak, you will become disappointed, whereas you will always like playing with your lore-based army even if you lose unless you get repeatedly pummeled into oblivion like orks : (

main reason I'm doing it this way is because my army is a renegade undivided warband. there's not much official GW lore on them but they aren't affiliated with any specific god so I thought I'd like to represent all of the gods in at least one unit, if I do use traitor legions I'll have to go with something generic like black legion or alpha legion. the noise marines are my main anti-horde, I have played against lots of such armies so far. at higher points I'm thinking of adding some khornate warp talons or zerkers, and tzeentch terminators.

If you're new, you're basically starting on double-hard mode with that army and it'll sap any enthusiasm you might have from the hobby once you get repeatedly tabled.

750 or 1000 pts is better if you're new. At that point value you can get 2 squads of tacticals, a bike squad, a terminator squad, a librarian and transports. And maybe points left over fir a toy like dla dreadnought or a tank.

A good mixed force like that is the best introdyction to the game.

Also bikes are VERY strong. One or two units is cool, but spamming them is not. That said you can still be competitive even without bikes so don't feel like you need them.

It depends on what their purpose is and your meta. Against something like a land raider meta, you need to focus to shots to burn down those hull points. On the other hand, I tend to keep mine behind cover and just have them each on specific jobs like anti-air. Just make sure to take two either as two units, or on unit of two or else they'll get focus fired.

Also, not him but more GK advice: Never, ever, ever, EVER put psycannons on PAGK. It makes them garbage. They should always be taking incinterators, because they should be playing super aggressively. So they're either using those templates to drop on people or, if they're unlucky and get charged, doing some damage on overwatch.

The main thing that every new GK player has to embrace: GKs are a close combat faction who just happen to have guns.

It's an all right list, but you've taken too many upgrades, especially on your CCS and the Emperor's Shield is okay, but better taken as a normal platoon in the CAD for objective secured.

I played a skittle player last week, I found that my 3 leman russes wrecked two of the dunecrawlers by turn 3. They were too close together and my templates scattered over both.

If you use them as a squadron then you would still have to maintain unit coherency. This seems like a bad thing to me.

Modern Iai isn't meant for actual combat. The practice is as spiritual as it is physical. Kata are practiced solo in the pursuit of becoming so good you never need to actually draw the sword to win, because your opponents will not raise arms against you.

SO new to 40k, recently picked up this list, or at least this range of models to play with. Plan is move everything but the fatso up the board whilst shooting with the soul grinder, camp objectives like a noob with nurglings and all of the over saves, and use the two big blobs to just absorb all of the damage.
