He played like a viking who could summon storm magics and curse enemies whenever he couldn't reach them, which was often, because he played up his inability and unwillingness to put effort into moving around. There's no reason why wizards wouldn't be fat though. They're generally physically sub-par in terms of stats and have spells for pretty much everything, including getting that bag of Doritos from the other side of the room. Once they figure out magical means for long term flight (which, depending on the system/edition, doesn't take too long) there's not even any reason left for them to walk. Fat blobs of lard throwing lightning and noxious clouds around shouldn't be an unusual sight.

Strongfat and other chubbier physiques are possible for a character that spends most of their time in a safer, populated area. They could fit into the roles of a town/royal/personal guard or a military reserve, assuming they could still train and operate in their state. As long as you can pull your weight and kick ass, there's no reason to kick you out.

Adventurers, mercenaries, and other assorted traveling warriors, are people that live in squalor conditions and carry all their equipment and living materials everywhere they go and/or maintain the vehicles that carry it for them. They have enough time to eat small, minimal meals before they move again to find work (combat, training others for combat, advising for combat, and so on). Their battles, regardless of the time spent fighting, are fast and dirty. Sometimes they get no time to prepare, and that means dropping whatever the fuck they're doing and running like hell. Or into it. For days at a time, in the shittier jobs. And then they move again.

If someone is fat and claims to be an adventurer, they are either incompetent, spoiled, or a liar. Or any combination thereof.

Do Ogres count? I once played a huge, fat ogre. He was still strong by his sheer size, and relativelly dumb. He was the party wall of flesh, being able to survive almost every blow. He died when a retarded player made an illusion on a bridge that was over a n accid river to look secure enough, and the brickhead of an ogre ran for it and broke the bridge, making the entire party lose their easy way to the other side. I played a fat middle aged housewife in a super hero game. Her abilities were basically far-sight, telepathy, and animating inanimate objects. Her 'avatar' to the rest of the team was usually a mannequin or a crash test dummy, the later of which was fitting giving her habit of crashing cars into villains. She ended up falling into the leader role, particularly after the batman-esque character tried to be leader before and almost got everybody killed. And the telepathy helped everybody be in sync and and communicate secretly/quietly.

I think I shared this the last time a thread about fat characters showed up, but I played a witch girl that floated around at mere centimeters off the ground because of a spell gone wrong, and her inability to walk anywhere and otherwise excercise properly had made her gain weight over time so she was quite chunky by the time she started the adventure

eventually we encountered an NPC that was able to counter the spell without the effects that would ensue because of muscle atrophia for not having walked in years, but didn't get rid of the weight

the fighter later helped her train and excercise in our downtime until she slimmed down quite a bit and even gained a bit of muscle and unarmed fighting training

it was a really fun campaign

Essentially played Torneko in a campaign.
Fat merchant who was once a fairly talented thief who joined the party so he could be involved in some serious treasure hunting. At first, he basically treated the party like a group of hired bodyguards, but eventually saw them as adopted kids.

Left all of his treasure to the party in his will, so they ended up with a ton of gold and basic magic items when he took one for the team by letting himself get captured and executed when the BBEG tried to pin his theft of a neighboring kingdom's McGuffin on us.

Two characters that I've thought up, but never played, are a pudgy human wizard who's shy and antisocial, but has a taste for luxury goods like fine foods, and was basically adventuring to eventually become a permaNEET in her tower.

Another was a gnome who was basically a ball of fat who threw fireballs, and hated people not taking her seriously or laughing at her.

The thing is, I feel weird about playing a female around other people, nevermind magical realming.

I've always wanted to play a fat female character, both for magical realm reasons and because I find a lot of characters in RPGs very same-ey in body types. Like I get sick of the skinny thief, the burly fighter, the Auschwitz-mode wizard. Boring, boring, boring.

I was thinking a plump tiefling innkeeper/priest of Yondalla or something. Chubby, homely and sweet, she heals travellers for free because she's just a nice person like that--but of course, if they cross her, the tiefling temper comes out and they get walloped and possibly sat on for serious infractions.

The campaign is set on a space ship during a multi-generational trip across the galaxy and in an environment where every possible luxury has been provided, leaving the population ridiculously fat, happy and docile. I once played a monk type character whom I described as looking like "A asian Blob" essentially a guy who was fat as all possible hell but with almost as much muscle underneath
Due to the system we were using he didn't have any movement penalties and in fact had some bonuses so he basically flew around the battlefield like a human wrecking ball
