Doc and engi should not be in second group, they take too many orders to be useful. Support unit like hacker or defensive unit like Raiden or Husong should be second group.

You've got not much to lock down camo, smoke, or ODD. A lucky smoke tossing warband can cause a lot of hurt. To say nothing about the Steel Phalanx squad or Tohaa assault. A Cutter, Sphinx, or Avatar will certainly be a rude awakening if you can't get Shinobu to them first.

Yu Jing has access to the cheapest MSV2 in the game in the Rui Shi, which is a fast BS12 Spitfire for 20 points 1 SWC. Put on Supportware Marksmanship on it and it effectively becomes a BS15 MSV2 monster that can shoot through smoke. There is also the Bao who take a little bit more finesse to utilize. And of course there is the BS14 Hsien who is expensive, but packs armor, a second wound, direct template,

Other ways around those modifiers are templates, deployables, and sensor if you have the orders. A dude with a chain rifle, nanopulser, or flamethrower can force ugly trades or smoke a whole bunch of troops. This is part of what makes Shaolin and Kuang Shi so good. Mines a great way to slow an advance since they don't care if your target is in camo or not. Your minelayers help a bit in this regard.. Sensor is order intensive, but reveals camo like no other and allows you to shoot things you otherwise wouldn't.

Also, you should never leave 3 or more points out. The Warcor is a free order to discover with as well as an ARO your opponent generally doesn't want to take a risk getting hit by. Yu Jing is also bless with the dreaded 5 point Kuang Shi as well as a 5 point Shaolin.

There is no reason with all those keisotsu shouldn't take the FO upgrade unless you've got points to better spend elsewhere. You may never forward observe with them, but it gets them a Flash Pulse which is an amazingly useful ARO weapon.

This particular list feels a bit more cohesive, but I'm uncomfortable with how the firepower is on the squishies. Guard your Husong well.

I'll take the Guilang Hacker over the Ninja hacker almost any day with it's increased versatility and cheaper price. Change to an FO if you want a doctor. The Daofei will have to take some risks if she wants to deploy on your opponent's half of the board, but she starts on your opponent's side of the board for free and is way tougher than the Tiger.

The Kuang Shi provide murderous close range defense as well as a nice picket line. They are also very dangerous missiles you can barrel toward your opponent. They will probably die, but hopefully it's after Shinobou does her dirty work. Swapping one Kuang Shi for a smoke tossing Shaolin may be worth it.

Man that's terrific, thank you so much! I can't believe I missed the Rui Shi. Even though I'm inexperienced, I've seen what my other Remote has done (The one with Total Reaction HMG) and I can tell by looking at this one it looks terrific for 20 points.

Kuang Shi eh--I'll take your advice but man I hate those models.

I did order a DaoFei today. He looks pretty sweet infiltrating although I was giving him a HMG.

So the Kuan Shi, if I understand Template weapons correctly. Since their BS sucks and they are 5 points, idea is with Chain Rifles they just walk up and spray, auto hit, probably dying to the ARO but since they're 5 points..you're trading up anyways right?

And how picky in official tournaments are people with the Remotes? I know I have one of those two pair but the one I think I have is the Flamethrower/gun Remote, not the one with two guns (spitfire one?)

Eh, I'm not too fond of those models either, but I'm not sure how I would feel if I liked the aesthetics of a brainwashed penal suicide troop. Anyways, yes, that's what direct templates are for. Something under the template is automatically hit unless they choose to dodge. Kuang Shi are extra effective since they have the option of explode or dogged when they go unconscious (remember shock and viral stops this though). If they are within range of the circular template, feel free to explode unless that is overkill. Otherwise choose dogged so you can get a couple more uses of that chain rifle. Dogged templates are evil.

That said they do not have bad BS. It's average, but I've killed my fair share of dudes with that damn pistol. Bad BS is what the Shaolin have.

I've found the Spitfire is right up in those ranges where the Daofei tend to end up. An HMG is a little bit too awkward up close for my tastes but that's a preference thing. There isn't a specifically spitfire model yet so most people won't bat an eye if you use the HMG model as a stand in for either.

By the strict letter of the law, no you cannot use your Lu Duan as a Rui Shi. That said, most people I've run into don't mind as long as you make it clear what that model is, it has the correct silhouette, and is a mostly CB mod. Personally, I found the Rui Shi a pain in the ass to assemble because of the small contact points on the winglets. Turned the fins vertical and pinned the guns directly to the body.

I have the red veil starter, and haven't gotten them assembled yet.

I found a good deal on figs, and can pick up most other single faction starters for $28 or so. What other faction should I pick up? Any specific models that'll enhance the red veil starter well?

Qapu Khalki has Hafzas, which can be the cellulose filler to some link teams, specialists, disguised firepower, decent hidden Lt, or the decoy to Saladin you may want to eventually get to supplement red veil with an actual useful Lt.

Djanbazan sniper in that is a classic model and decent active or reactive piece with the MSV2, ARM 3 and regeneration.

Odalisque is also pretty good with a 360 visor or 6th Sense. Sort of a Pseudo Heavy Infantry.

Plus, with that box more of the models are closer to the modern standard and it's not a repeat of the RV box.

Hassassin Bahram isn't that bad either, Fidays are great, Lasiqs are cool sniper dudes with viral, but I'm not too big of a fan of Daylami.

I can't in good conscience suggest the old Yu Jing starter as those Zhanshi are pretty ugly looking, the Domaru is outdated, and the Shang Ji is stepping on the toes of the HI you already have.

ISS starter is decent as you have a CoC model for the aggressive Hsien Lt you may want to field, great hackers (CG) for helping the Tiger drop down and provide some support, as well as anti camo measures with Crane Rank's sensor. Plus all the models look cool. With it you can squeeze into ISS as the Ninja is also available there, the Zuyong doesn't stand out too much among Wu Ming, and the Tiger can stand in for a GAruda if you're feeling adventurous.

Otherwise the JSA is a great starter in contents of actual profiles, the Oniwaban's an amazing assassin, Keisotsu are cheap and cheerful cheerleaders, the Kempeitei's great in sectorial for the Chain of Command, and the Domaru Chain Rifle is a hearty Lt, but that's dwelling into JSA more.
In general, purchases that decently supplement the RV starters:

Hunzakut, Saladin, Ghazi Muttawi'ah for Haqqislam

the JSA support pack, any Yu Jing Remotes box (preferably the Yaokong), Guilang (bit of an old model though), Kanren

ISS is also good for getting the Kuang Shi Control device and smoke grenade launcher from one of the Guards.

I won't lie, I've never paid kickstarter enough interest to understand how this works.

So, if the whole thing accumulated 25,000$, they will do the O-yoroi pilot in standard 25mm.

But how can that model be acquired? Will I have to pledge a certain amount, and then acquire her through that?

usually there's a pledge manager page that lets you customize your addons after the stretchgoals are unlocked. I'm not an expert tho, but it should be more or less like this.

for some strange reason infinity is dying on me. it started with CB discontinuing the öine troops and blisters (so suddenly I had to buy multiple starter boxes to get my line infantry WYSIWG)... then I somehow got annoyed by all the special edition mioniatures eventhough I have some... and in the end after playing intensively you notice, obviously it's totally possible to spam certain units to max your list, the rules are just too good, the game feels like chess at a certain point and so on. I am not really shure if I am complaining it's not like all the GW nerdrage... it's more a slow and unspectacular death at leat for me... at least in the moment

I use that + Kinematika to get my Skirmishers and Warbands in more rewarding places. Shaolin monks into Chain Rifle Range, engaging with a Ninja, that kind of stuff.

I use Super Clean, which is an automotive grease cleaner. Comes in a purple bottle, can be purchased at any auto parts store. It's safe on plastic but works a lot more quickly and thoroughly than simple green. It also dissolves super glue. It causes mild chemical burns though so wear gloves.

Playing it is probably not as you're expecting in your head, so prepare for that, which can be a paradox in itself.

Overall, from what some may tell you, with the equipment they have to offer, they can sort of be "newb stompers" in teaching neophytes how to deal with heavy armor, fire teams, and ODD from the ASS's power pieces.

Saladin supplements a Fiday well with Strategos allowing you to counter deploy.

Ghazi Muttawi'ah are great, cheap smoke, easy-ish to use, and decent return of investment.

Some Remotes would be nice so that the Najjarun has something to fix, as well as round out your list with specialists and/or firepower with the Total Reaction Bot.

If you don't have the Al Fasid you might need some decent firepower like a Djanbazan HMG.

Specialists that go well for being well priced and cheerful would be the Hunzakut (great model) and Al Hawwa hacker (well rounded profile with D-Charges for that other classified objective).

I'm not sure what my suggestions add up to but you should be on the right track.

Very little. Fireteams are great and all, but they have their weaknesses and can be a clutch. There is strength in diverse options that can synergize, for example, Saladin's Strategos with a Fiday's impersonation really helps picking the right spot to strike the most damage. A Djanbazan with a Multi Spectral Visor can easily shoot through the smoke a Ghazi Muttawi'ah can provide. Stuff like that. Very rarely do I regret playing a generic/vanilla army; the few times I did it was for biotechvore missions or for Mercenaries available in a sectorial that would've helped in a situation.

Kuang Shi for your BF. The models are pretty ugly imo but the units themselves are extremely useful. They need a particular Celestial Guard to field, but the ISS starter provides that so you don't need to worry.
Guilangs are also a very good investment for vanilla YJ, and all the other remotes he doesn't have are good too.

Now that we have fireteams duo, trio and haris, I wish there were some crew-served weapons. There must be means to still have heavy weapons when the heavy infantry and the TAGs aren't there.

Odalisques are generally good, making great Haris options in QK or in general being a decent combat specialist that's almost a pseudo Heavy Infantry with ARM 2 and NWI. 360 Visors or 6th Sense is almost always useful.

You're fine overall, you've got decent starts for many lists there.

You'll be in some need of Remotes for Neoterra + perhaps some regular Bolts to fill out a link. Deva Functionary is a decent Lt option as well you might want to consider fielding her. I am not a Neoterra player but I've played against them so don't take me as an expert.

ISS is well stocked, but again, remotes. both Yaokong and Yaoxie so that the Sophotect has something to fix up, as well as having cheap visors, decent specialist options, and ARO pieces.

You seem rather QK heavy on the Haqqislam side so I'd suggest Al Hawwa Hacker at the very least for Haqqislam, who's a great camo specialist that's also available for QK and Hafza for mind games or filling out links in QK(there's a blister of one, but occassionally the blister of two shows up on ebay, or you could just buy the starter for QK for three Hafzas, and Odalisque, and Djanbazan Sniper).


Bear in mind though, there are very few "must haves" in the game and you already have quite a few of them. It's better to just start playing with what you got.

You need 2 good specialists and preferably a couple of backups in ITS. Survivable and mobile specialists are best, though close range killing power also helps.

You don't need specialists in 20x20 though, they're pretty much optional.

How do you virtually nonexistent Tohaa chaos use your battle cats? Send them into the enemy DZ Turn 1 to take out a special target? To eat cheerleaders? Leave them in the midfield to pounce on interlopers? Guard you own DZ? Do you Mutan? I'm curious.

I've mostly used the mutan loadout since the Kerail himself is pretty fragile despite its symbiont. Typically using him to cover firelanes in smoke so Gao-Raels can exploit them. Otherwise it's picking on softer specialists straying too far.

I've been using the Tiger Soldier a bit.

Funny, when we first started we didn't know about Alert! as an ARO. I"d drop my Tiger in and feed him 5 orders, watch him drop 5 guys. Seemed...unfair to the point I wasn't going to use him anymore.

Then we started Googling and talking it out on how to defend against it--now he rarely grabs more than one guy before dying.

It's been a while since I've played JSA and especially without Haramaki because I've either been playing Limited Insertion or in the LI format.

Been thinking about the Son Bae a bit, if I should place it so that I buff its AROs and sit it on a roof as a roof Korean, and, if possible, do guided missile shenanigans. So, I was considering fielding something like this for supply or console type missions.

Have flanks covered by Raiden, Son Bae, and the link team, assassinate with Oniwaban, corner guard with Domaru, use the Raiden to hunt camo, all while grabbing objectives with the Ninja, Karakuri, and if necessary the doctor or the link. But something feels off, and it's hard to tell what from my own eyes.

Also, why did no one here show me this?

Try building 200pts armies with what you've bought and you should learn the game as you go. Maybe avoid too complex rules like hacking or sectorials at first, but ease into them once you get the hang of setting up AROs and taking advantage of cover and you learn what each of your units does in a nutshell.
