> society of sentient mimics who forgot over time that they are mimics and genuinely think that they are humans/humanoids
Yes or no?

Really really REALLY stupid idea senpai.
Mimics are inanimate. Do something like dopplegangers. But even then, how would it ever come up? If they didn't know and you didn't know, how would anyone know?

Yes. Almost Borgesian.
Ignore the literalist idiot that answered first.

I could see that working. Ignore fellow who answered first.
That sounds really fucking stupid.

>society of sentient mimics
Okay, sounds good.
>who forgot over time that they are mimics and genuinely think that they are humans/humanoids
Interesting, but you'll have to do some serious mental gymnastics to explain how they "forgot" that they are mimics in the first place. Might be easier to consider that they adopt an humanoid form to be able to trade or interact with their neighbors.

How do mimics reproduce?
>>51645698
by splitting
>>51644133
What if they're not imitating humanoids?

There's a DS9 episode where an entire society is a holographic projection and nobody knows. I think it can be a cool story, but it takes a lot more work to make something like your suggestion work in fantasy and still seem believable. Perhaps watching the DS9 episode can give you hints on how to structure it.

This is supposed to be a common hazard for tanuki.

>individual mimics occasionally realize their true nature
>try revealing the masquerade to society
>society reacts with "oh shit we're being attacked by a mimic!" and executes them then goes on with their daily lives
>witch hunts trying to find mimic spies are greatly successful, with a 100% success rate

That was one of the better Voyager episodes.

>All of the mimics know that they are a mimic, but keep it hidden to avoid being killed.

Nigger, how the fuck does this thing think it's a humanoid or even form a society. It can only work if they never have contact with humans, but then they wouldn't know what a human was in order to think they are one.
Are you sure you didn't mean dopplegangers or shapeshifters or something?
