Are you seriously comparing the complexity of a star ship with tens of thousands of crew and accommodations for each to a tank with a crew of four?
62 Los-Angeles-class submarines were built, which are a meager 110m long.
The USS Honolulu (SSN-718) was laid down in 1981, commissioned 1985. That's still four years for something a fraction of the size and a fraction of the complexity.

Here's the story in brief.
>Alternate timeline
>Lukes torpedoes blow up midway down to DS's reactor
>DS shoots at Yavin IV but doesntblowit up with first strike because laser got banged up a bit
>Second shot blows up the moon but rebels manage to flee
>Only to get captured
>Luke and Han manage to get away
>Luke is contacted by Bens force ghost who tells him to go to Dagobah
>Luke goes through his full training while Vader starts training Leia to become a force user
>Also he reveals to 3PO that he is his creator
>Han, Luke and Yoda team up and fly to Coruscant on an Imperial victory over rebellion anniversary
>Yoda goes to DS and mind controls Tarkin into flying the thing and starts shooting at the imperial fleet with the main laser
>Meanwhile Luke and Leia duel, Vader kills Palpatine when he starts electorcuting Vaders kids
>Vader dies and is left behind, Luke, Leia, droids and Han escape while Yoda J'edi ackbars the death star into Coruscant

As far as I can tell, droids only develop personalities and the associated issues if you make them deal with situations outside of their programming.

If they never have to adapt or improvise or think laterally, they'll be perfectly efficient and pretty nearly mindless.

Robot construction workers building endless identical Star Destroyers, with no issues and no creativity, will do just fine.

Thank you, most honorable Sempai. Thank you for taking me on this most wonderful journey. There's just something so hilarious and wonderful about the earliest ideas for the EU. Swg,

Lore question; How are ship weapons classified?

Ship scale blaster
Laser canon
Light turbo laser canon
Turbo laser
Heavy turbo laser

These may all be modified with macguffin ores and kyber crystals to be more powerful but they still fall into one of those five categories unless they are super weapons?

I have heard back and forth that all of them are actually plasma weapons that just use lasers to ignite the plasma but cant confirm...

I started down this rabbit hole because it always bothered me that star destroyer turrets look CIWS scale compared to their hull sizes. Would a star destroyer turret be stronger, barrel to barrel against say a CR90? Is it just the stupid number of canons that make them dangerous? Was this a thing even ever addressed anywhere? I suppose i always thought of battleships and how the size of the ship determined the size of the main canons but the ISD looks like a dreadnaught covered in AA, like it never finished outfitting.

If someone really wants to go there, is technology stunted in the setting? I was reading up on HK-47 and engineers 4000 years after he was built marveled at his advanced design... and weapons/shields dont seem to have changed at all in any period I've seen unless you want to go back something like 12000 years to belt pack powered light sabers.

So which series from 1979 to 2017 should they have seen?

The issue isn't obscurity of brand - Gundam isn't unknown - but content glut. There are so many series, side-series, movies, and remakes that it's pretty hopeless to expect anyone but the most dedicated otaku to know every single episode and reference.

Well, by nature those last two still HAVE motivations and I assume emotional weaknesses. Even if they aren't well characterized you can still hit them in those aspects and if they're like "I don't get it" you can still point down to their sheet.

I know that breaks the fourth wall a little but sometimes you need to remind characters why they give a crap.

Fair enough.

Anyway, the wookiee is going into a battle pit and is going to fight a dark side representation of his own bestial nature. After he fights that off and realizes it, he's gonna be trapped in a room. Trying to brute force his way out with move will cause the room to contract.

The one on the run is going to run into a manifestation of the inquisitor. Though I'd be open to suggestions because they encountered him in the session before in a big reveal.

The commando is going to be forced to go through a mission and choose between sticking it to the Hutts or keeping to the mission.

So my dm is allowing us to use the force to imbue items using discipline checks combined with force rating. I know it's goofy but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on what qualities I could give such items with successful checks? So far it's only an idea he's playing with. Silhouettes have a mechanical purpose. 0 items encompasses up to Jawa and Astromech (R2-D2 size) sized items. Silhouette 1 items are most humanoids. 3 is an x-wing and a tie fighter. 4 is the millennium falcon. This stuff has a mechanical purpose.
>>
>>51586310
Silhouettes are an important mechanic. If you're two below a certain size it upgrades the enemies check to hit. But I believe it makes it an easy check at medium range to shoot enemies that are two above you as well. It's an important mechanic to look into.

Speed and stealth.

You need repulsorlift boosters under your robes. You need the ability to deploy smoke bombs and then fly off at damn near the speed of sound. You need the ability to camouflage yourself in any environment. Have an empty astromech chassis on the ship so you can hop in and pretend to be a droid, in an emergency. Heck, have two matching astromechs programmed to act as distractions.

Steal every bit of tech that's not nailed down. Pull the wiring out of the bar. A droid sits down? Steal its legs. A speeder parks outside? Crawl under, it, steal the valuable bits. The Rebellion hires you? Steal EVERYTHING - they are awfully trusting. Build a mini hoard.

Display absolutely no concern for the following things: nudity of others. Food. The Force. Ideals. Bathing.

Display total, overpowering concern for the following: items of value. Personal space. Secrets. Pranks. TURBO SPEED.

>>
My Armada campaign group had most of our first session today (one of the players wasn't able to make it, so he and his opponent are going to play during the week sometime).

Of the two games that were played, Rebels won both.

I won a Hyperlane Raid mission against double Vics, double Gladiators, and Dengar with a TIE swarm, final score was about 300-200, and I got 100 resource points for my team. The downside is I'm going to have to spend most of my points repairing my fleet (I lost an Assault Frigate, two CR90s, Wedge, and a couple of X-Wings).

The other Rebel player who got a match in today successfully assaulted the Imperial base in the Saberhing Asteroid Belt, like, 60-14. He and his opponent hardly took any shots at each other's ships, because the Imperial player for whatever reason just kept waiting for the Rebels to come to his ISD.

Our remaining player will be defending the Rebel base on Nubia against another ISD list. I really hope he can hold onto it, because I could really use the extra 14 resources and 5 refit points for my fleet.

My group wants me to GM for a Star Wars campaign but I must confess I'm not really a big Star Wars nerd... I've seen all the movies, Rebels, and even read a few of the books as a kid, but that's about the extent of it.

Any tips on how to study up to be a better GM? I've started reading the Darth Vader comic (which is awesome!) and am aiming to read more of the novels and comics as well, alongside watching The Clone Wars, but it seems like a daunting universe to get to know well enough to GM for... so if you have any tips for quickly getting a hang of the setting, that'd be great.

In addition, if it helps, my group is going for Force and Destiny around the time of Rogue One or Episode IV. So Jedi-in-hiding with mystical, spiritual, and moral stuff is gonna be the big theme, probably.

Stop. You're looking for love in all the wrong places.

More accurately, you're confusing "knowing the canon" with "being a good storyteller."

Canon is the stories other people have told. They can give you ideas and inspiration, but they also close off doorways. See:
>>51568221
>>51568459

If you've seen the movies and Rebels, you have all the canon and tone and background you need. Stop adding more food and start digesting what you have.

How can you build a game that incorporates those themes?
>>
>>51588755
I'm actually on season 3 of Rebels! Just watched "The Antilles Extraction". Been really enjoying it. It definitely started as hit or miss, but it's been super great lately. Really loved the season 2 finale.

I pirated a lot of the 'best' Star Wars books (from what little research I did on the internet) and plan on reading those. On my commutes I've been listening to actual play podcasts (Campaign currently, been trying to find a good F&D one because while Campaign's fun, it isn't the right feel really). I'll definitely look into Audible though, audiobooks while driving or working out sounds nice. Thanks for the suggestion!

I was definitely considering using the viewing guide. I have a pretty high tolerance for cheesier stuff, especially in shows like Rebels and the like, but if it's just straight-up boring then I'll probably just resort to skipping ahead.

>>51588795
Ah, no worries anon! I wrote that post pretty poorly... I know that just knowing the canon isn't gonna make me a better GM, lol. I just want to get a better sense of what species are common in the Star Wars universe, what planets are going to be well-known, what events, etc.

I was actually gonna write this in my original post, but my current plan is to rely a lot on my own material and not really worry about the canon. I'd like to know stuff that makes it feel 'legit Star Wars' like species and kinds of starship and all that, but I know it's not essential. I can always just set it far away from the rest of the stories, make it on planets of my own devising, species of my own devising, etc... but I also genuinely want to learn more about Star Wars canon!

I'll totally answer your questions though, because I am aiming to be the best storyteller I can be for this.

(Continued...)
>>
>>51588835
Species-wise, I'd ignore canon, for the most part. Sure, pick a few species and learn their attributes. If a player wants to play one, it's up to /them/ to tell you and the rest of the group about it. And not just things from canon. Let them make up stuff too.

Make up your own species. I created this PDF for my game. Just peel off an NPC, invent a species, a description, and an ecology, and you're good to go.

The more you delve into canon, the more doors will be closed off. "Oh, there's already a spider-like species," you'll say, as the idea fossilizes in your mind.

Make your players answer questions too. "So your friend Guntar Guntar is a bounty hunter and a Solipharian. What do the Solipharians look like? What do they eat? Where do they live? What sort of minds do they have? What do they enjoy?"

Collaborative worldbuilding is extra satisfying.

>What are three major themes of Star Wars?

I was actually just chatting with my group about this. I was thinking based on the framework of "principles" from Apocalypse World and other PBTA systems, and was idly musing on what some good 'principles' would be for a Star Wars campaign. Here's what I had come up with, with some of my players' suggestions:

> The nature of good and evil

A common recurring theme, even with non-Jedi, is the struggle to stick to the 'light side'. Redemption, temptation, corruption... those themes are huge to the power of Star Wars. The conflict between good and evil is both on the individual level and the universal level, and I want to emphasize the allure of the dark side, and the cryptic "everything has a reason" trust in the light side, as much as I can.

One of my players, when I asked what they thought was important to making a story feel like Star Wars, noted that they really appreciate that good always triumphs. Evil often wins individual battles, but good will ultimately always win the war. I definitely like how that is a 'universal' reflection of the theme that the Dark Side is quick and easy, but ultimately doesn't pay; and the Light Side is subtle in its rewards, and requires trust and faith.

> The impact of the past

I really like how so many things in Star Wars feel like the products of such a grand universe. When I watched Episode IV, it feels so... worn-in. The Rebels existed before Luke; the Millenium Falcon is old and beat-up; there's a Clone War, a Kessel Run, and all these other details only briefly alluded to, but not seen. You can feel that the present is always the result of a huge and epic past.

I run my games in Fate Core, so we have "Game Aspects", but yeah, same thing really.

I agree that the Nature of Good and Evil is in there. But it's capital G good and capital E Evil... with some room for the lower case versions too.

But dig deeper. It's not an examination of "what does it mean to be a good person?" It's an examination of "what are the consequences of my choices?" It's not about the nature of Good and Evil so much as the struggle between them. And it's an immensely personal struggle, but one in which Hope vanquishes Fear, Love banishes Hate, and Peace wins over War.

I love the "used future" aesthetic. Not much else to say here, except work to make the worlds and NPCs feel /real/. Everywhere you go, the place should feel slightly greasy, slightly lived-in, like a truck stop or a motel. There should be noise and clutter and too many languages and species to count.
>>
>>51588934

> The impact of the past, cont.

I actually just watched the LotR trilogy for the first time since I was a kid (loved it!) and it really struck me how important it is to a fantasy to make things feel alive, and to constantly bring to mind a sense of wonder and awe to the audience by sheer virtue of age and time. The same thing happens in Star Wars, throughout it. Rather than being new and shiny, like other sci-fi, Star Wars sought to feel like a legacy, a descendant.

In addition, the past haunts a lot of characters. There's the matter of blood and family, but also tragedy and trauma. The Skywalker family is obviously related to this theme, but so too is the alluded-to backstory of Obi Wan in the first movie. Han's referenced Kessel Run gave him his Millenium Falcon, and helps establish his reputation. Lando and Han share a history that has created a bond, which makes Lando's betrayal all the more hard-hitting. Etc... We follow Luke's in this story, but there's clearly so much more to it.

> Mystery and destiny

The Force was awe-inspiring because it was magic that truly felt magical... it was mysterious, wieldable but also fickle. The zen philosophy of Jedi was really exotic when I first saw Star Wars, and was such a stark contrast to the near-scientific magic you see in so many other series. I loved it.

This is a big part of what makes Star Wars "sci-fantasy". In combination with the constant allusions to the past, or other events or species or places, it constantly elicits a sense of wonder and curiosity in the audience. And importantly, when those questions are answered, they inspired awe, and more questions.

Series like Rebels are fun not only because we answer some of our questions - what were other Jedi up to during the rebellion? What was the Rebellion doing before the events of the movies? Etc... but also because they provoke new questions.

And that's fine. They can do that.

Problem is, there's /so much canon/ that you'll never be able to play a fully, exhaustively canonical game.

And since the canon authors made stuff up in the same way you do... why not continue the spirit of the tradition? It's not like the guys naming the bounty hunters in ESB had access to divine inspiration or were somehow orders of magnitude better at storytelling.

You can stick to /only/ materials you know are canonical, but that kind of misses one of the major themes of Star Wars. The galaxy is a big, diverse, and messy place. It's got all sorts of people in it, and they are living their own lives.

Have you ever read the artbooks and designers notes for the films? They designers and concept artists do almost exactly what we do here, except on a tighter schedule. There's no magic involved.

Family is a major theme in Star Wars, especially the dichotomy between adoptive families and bloodlines. The Owen Lars/Luke/Vader story is mirrored by the (unused) Obi-Wan/Luke/Owen Lars arc. >>.51571464 Everything is tied together by family. These stories are like viking epics. People inherit swords, destinies, tragedies, and fates. Even the new movies get that.

So at least one of your PCs will have a family connection. There will be a twist. It's pretty much mandatory. Don't decide right away, but by the end of the first session, you should have a sense of how it's going to go. Then start setting the stage.

>Mystery and destiny

Moments like the Bendu speaking of Ashla and Bogan - of an ancient origin of the Jedi... or of the power of the Holocrons being brought together... or the "Siege of Malachor" and the Sith "Temple"... that stuff is great!

In addition, characters always have a hope, a dream, a 'destiny' to fulfill, and I love that. One of my players noted, half-jokingly, that the idealistic hopes of so many main characters helped them make sense of Star Wars being Disney - they sometimes felt like Disney-character wishes! And I think that's a big part to the series, honestly. Having ambitious desires, a universe stacked up against you, but trust that things will work out for the best... that heroic spirit (and foolishness) is nice. The Rebels are underdogs, the Jedi strive for an ideal... it's good to remember that.

>>51588984
Yeah, I just decided not to capitalize them because it felt weird to do that alongside Light and Dark Side.

I definitely agree it's not about 'what is the Light Side'. I do like the specific focus on consequences, that's a good catch-all term for it. The main nature of the conflict between Light and Dark Side, narratively, is certainly in what costs they bring, and what side-effects they carry with them.

Yeah, variety and diversity is big too! Thanks for reminding me of that.

Currently, my idea to represent these in-game is basically to just have them as 'reminders' on my GM sheet. I was planning on sitting down and breaking up the Light vs. Dark Side into a few basic spectrums. I really like how you divided it. I'll definitely use Hope versus Fear!

I had Passion vs. Peace, Power vs. Knowledge, and Victory vs. Harmony. (Using the Codes as a basis, which worked out well!)

Like I said, learn a few, and if your players want to learn more, let them.

But if you memorize this whole damn encyclopedia you're in for a rough time. It forces you down pre-defined paths written by other authors. What do you /gain/ from this? Recognizability? How many people out there know that Sullustians can breathe ammonia? Is that ever going to be relevant?

I would also go with Control vs. Freedom.

But yes, good, make lots of little notes, and guide your players along these lines during character creation. Not everything is a binary spectrum, but it's a handy tool.

Don't get too hung up on the Force philosophy thing. What makes an act a "Dark Side" act is entirely up to you as the GM, and to your players as well. It's not about rules lawyering your way out of a massacre, or taking consequences for acts you feel are both just and pure. It's about character change - unless the /character/ changes, the points don't matter.

But I /like/ my clay tablets.

I use technology pretty heavily in my games, but very rarely as a reference tool. Why? It slows down the game. I don't need to look up the political structure of the Mon Calamari. I can just invent it... and amazingly, what I say is canon in my games. That's how GMing works.

If a players has an interesting idea - canon or not - I might go with that instead or as well.

The main use of technology in my games is for music. I have a 90+ track folder with named and sorted music. Each PC has a leitmotif (from non Star Wars music because I'm apparently also a masochist). I also have sound effect boards open. With these tools, I can /increase/ immersion and theme while sacrificing nothing.

What does looking up a canon race in a book get me from a storytelling point of view? Very little. If my players care, it's their job to tell me - to bring their idea into the story. If they don't care, then why should I use the ideas of another author over my own ideas, assuming they're both equally thematic and match the game's tone?
>>
>>51589223
Ah yeah! I was gonna say "Freedom vs. Duty".

The idea of the conflicts actually came from my experience GMing Masks. I loved the conflicts that the rulebook offered between different styles of heroics, since they gave me the ability to present nuanced and interesting conflicts to characters while only needing to write down two words per conflict on my GM sheet notes. So I wanted to do the same here. The idea here is that they help me brainstorm scenarios or decisions that will test the players' Morality.
>>
>>51589273
I'd love a playlist! I've been looking for music that feels Star Wars-y without being recognizably Star Wars, and it's been tough. I've been relying on the video games a lot.

This isn't really uploadable. It's also custom built for my games. I've also edited tracks to remove some leitmotif's (like Vader's theme).

But it's a mix of the 8 film sountracks, plus:

-Some tracks from "The Man from UNCLE" (leitmotifs for one character)
-Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" (more leitmotifs)
-Some Morricone (very carefully chosen) as leitmotifs
-Some tracks from "Lucky Number Slevin" (leitmotifs)
-Some Dvorak
-Some Mussorsky

And this wonderful piece is the main theme for the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4drLmXeoJqI

It played at the start of the first session, after the opening crawl and the main theme, and the players were /hooked/. Hooked by the soul, my friend.

The reason to play in a particular setting is so you can interact with all the things you've seen in the related media. Does the player want to go to water planet 10 and see fish race 8 or do I want to go to Manaan and see Selkath? If it's the former, literally why are they bothering to call it Star Wars? There's nothing stopping you from putting magic and laser swords in your personal setting you've made up with your friends.

What you're looking for is :

-Music with no choir
-Music with few repeated verses. There should never be a clear chorus or phrase that repeats more than three times. If it feels like it loops, it's not Williams
-No piano. I'll accept the guitar, electric or otherwise, for Western-themed Star Wars games. Your major instruments are the violin, the trumpet, and the flute.

It might be for you. But that would feel like too much of a "theme park" tour to me.

"Oooh, look, it's Mandalore. Let's go see the things I've seen in associated media. Oh, the other players haven't? Well fuck them. That's their loss. I'm having a great time."

>Does the player want to go to water planet 10 and see fish race 8 or do I want to go to Manaan and see Selkath?

The players are here to tell a story. It can be a Star Wars story and /never once/ involve any canonical planet. You need a few canon elements to tie the whole thing together, but planets and species are definitely not on the mandatory list.

Do you run a lot of games, anon?
>>
>>51589392
Yeah. At the same time, though, I need music that loops if I want it playing for a while during a scene... unless I just use music as stingers to set up scenes, I guess.

It's tough using the movie soundtracks because they so often 'tell a story', too. If you know what I mean.

I've categorized my music as follows:

Battle
Filler
Force
Imperial Music
Intro
Leitmotifs
Outro
Special
Urban

So I might have a track named "Filler - Shadow of the Empire - 4m06s" for a track like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T9dvUqWGWs

Filler tracks are designed to be looped or played in quick succession without feeling like they dominate a scene.

It's also perfectly acceptable to keep the music off for a bit, then bring it back as needed. If it plays all the time it loses its impact.

Running a game is an entirely different beast.

But I assume that, in the game you're in, you don't cross-check everything the GM says for canon veracity? Do you insist other players stick exclusively to canon materials? If there's a question, do you go to Wookipedia first and ask "what would be the most interesting answer?"... never?

But you also need to edit. That filler track in my playlist is 3m26s. I chopped off the end bit because it didn't fit my needs.

And then you need to learn to tell a story in time to music.

It's... tricky. But it's a lot of fun. Soon you'll hear your own playlist in your head as you make plans.

>Running a game is an entirely different beast.
I've GM'd games before.

The disconnect here is that you and your group gather to tell a story. Mine gathers to play a game. What something IS matters more to us than what if it was something else. Your method might work well for you, but frankly if I wanted to tell a story I'd do it with Microsoft Word, not a bag of dice.

I have a similar system for my current campaign (Pokemon). I have Route, Town, Wild Battle, Trainer Battle, and Themes (for various characters). Each folder also has "tags" - so for example, the Route songs are split into "easy / medium / hard", and also tagged with what Route they commonly appear on. I also have some leitmotifs, though I really should work on establishing more of them...

Right now, I have music a lot of the time, but most of the time it's quiet and mostly for a noise-filler (my group likes having a bit of background music to help set the mood). I only turn it up when establishing a big dramatic moment or when it's a 'theme song', like for bosses, rivals, etc. I also use silence at times, of course, for dramatic effect.

Fortunately, as it's based on Pokemon, I have an AMPLE amount of filler. Still, making an entire 'filler' tag for a Star Wars campaign is a great idea... I'll have to use that!

Right now I simply use Youtube playlists with the Notes serving as my 'tags' repository', but I definitely have been leaning more towards just downloading the music, especially so I can edit it.

Thanks for the amazing advice!

>>51589540
Yeah, I had a feeling the root of this conflict was that you both simply sought different things out of your Star Wars experience. Wanting a game that sticks closely to canon is not a problem, if it's what's fun for you! That's really what matters.

You want to play in a game that has things from Star Wars. He wants to tell a story that has the feeling of Star Wars. Very different goals, even if they overlap with the same medium. And both are fun!

I guess "tell a story" is the wrong phrase. Maybe "discover a story" works better?

Nobody has any idea what's going to happen next, but we're all going to find out together.

I'm not sure how you're defining "playing a game". Is this a D&D style "beat X encounter, get Y XP, move on", where the game is really just a series of logic puzzles/challenges/optimization problems? That's fine too... but why does it have to be exclusively canon in that case? It seems like that type of game relies /less/ on canon than a story-based one.
>>
>>51589569
It doesn't have to be, it relies on canon because that's what they want. The fun is playing a game that lets them explore their favorite Star Wars places, meet the coolest Star Wars races, etc.
>>
>>51589330
Dude, your selection is awesome! I'm gonna have to dig more into my classical memory and see what I can find to match the aesthetic.

Any chance you can post up a screenshot of some of your playlist?
>>
>>51589564
No problem!

And I prefer downloading because I can more easily mix 2 tracks - fade one in, bring the other up. Instantly see that "Oh, right, they're going to run into the Imperials soon. Let's use a bridging track to introduce some Imperial themes and then switch music entirely."

Also, this may not be useful at all, but I've written a Fate Core hack for Star Wars. It's light, quick, extremely fun, and it has less fiddly bits than EoTE. It also has a very... mystic Force system.
>>
>>51589595
Cool, will check it out. I already got the dice for the F&D system so I not only have a fiscal investment, but my group already seemed interested in it... but this'll be on my list for sure, and my group might want to go for a lighter system, especially after the hellscape that is PTU. (Ugh...)

Thanks!

Also, anyone have any suggestions for an album-uploading website? Imgur's gone to shit lately. I have a bunch of images I want to upload in thanks for the help I've gotten and I don't know where to do it. I'd just dump them, but I'm not gonna be up much longer.

That's the funny thing. Since I renamed all of the tracks and edited them, I can't really tell what the original ones were.

I mean, there's at least 80% of ANH's soundtrack, with most of Rogue One and about a third of TFA's. Once we get into ESB and RoTJ, Vader's leitmotif (the Imperial March) and the Emperor's leitmotif (the choral chanting) dominate too much, so I had to be very selective.

Some of the more eccentric tracks.

Cantina music: https://soundcloud.com/rig/boogieman

Ed (the Hutt's) Leitmotif: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUmq1cpcglQ&feature=youtu.be&t=90

I genuinely really like the Star Wars system so far from what I've seen and read and played. It seems like a good mix between crunch and narrative. I myself lean far more towards narrative most of the time, like FATE, but a bit of crunch can be nice. And my group is really used to crunch (they started with DND), so more loosey-goosey systems can be a hard sell. They are pretty open, though.

You might like how I'm (secretly) using Force in this game.

Every time a player with Force makes a Force roll, they can also damage a concept named "Secrecy".

Secrecy has 2 stress boxes and 3 consequence slots, just like any NPC.

When a player succeeds on a Force roll, their shifts of success are dealt as damage to their Secrecy.

Stress isn't so bad. It goes away. But the consequences... ooh, those can be nasty.

And then if they manage to accidentally kill Secrecy, very, very bad things will start to happen to them.

This goes on behind the screen, of course. They'll learn about it soon enough.

What is this bullshit?

I make tons of use of canon. I visit Wookipedia all the time when I'm planning out my campaign notes. I also regularly throw in things which have never had any presence in canon. You can easily do both.

Most people who play Star Wars RPGs are big Star Wars fans. Ergo they know a pretty big chunk of the lore from the get-go, and will eagerly look up more when building their backstories and trying to get a sense of where they fit into the existing universe. You don't need an encyclopedic knowledge of the canon to use the canon extensively, and the existing Disney canon is actually pretty small in scope, many people in this thread have been exposed to nearly all of it.

I try to respond to questions, and not just post in a vacuum. It's not like these threads are a finite resource. And I also post images, which is helpful.

>trying to convince everyone of the amazing virtues of your approach to GMing

As far as I can tell, my approach to GMing is different enough that it's worth bringing up from time to time, when people ask "How do I plan a one-shot game" or "How do I make an interesting encounter?" People say "thanks" a fair bit so I must be doing something right.

If I didn't think it was a good approach, I'd do something else.

And no, I'm not fair or balanced. I like the way I run my games. I steal ideas and examine new ways of doing things. I think people would have more fun if they examined some of their preconceptions about canon and GMing.

But the limit of my ability to get anyone to do anything is to post about how I do things, and see if my ideas catch on. It's something. And if you don't like them... ok. No loss to anyone.

It's definitely an arrogant approach, but again, it's free of cost and consequence.

I know the rules let you do this but it's my least favourite thing to do as a GM. Like, villains running away is a fine trope, but I prefer to do it in structured combat so that the players have a CHANCE to stop them.

Just having them poof with no questions asked when you flip a destiny seems to rob players of opportunity to do anything.

It is a well known fact that Temple Guards are neckbeard smalldicked permavirgins. That's why they wear masks and have huge sabers that they always have activated to compensate.

They're ceremonial, i think. Or maybe they're designed so you could feasibly use it like a baton or truncheon. And i could see why having some sort of crowd control option that doesn't involve dismemberment would be useful for a guard.

I do like the look of the temple guard sabers they showed in rebels though. Overall they have a closer aesthetic to what we generally see fro sabers and they don't seem as bulky.
>>
>>51591491
Having them fold in like that was cool, although it seems to have more utility as a thing to use in the field, not in a ceremonial, defence role.

How do I make an infamous pirate's flagship seem suitably unique and personalised? Naturally it'll be modified to all fuck, but how do you make the internals feel lived in and evocative?

Any tips on characterising and writing stories involving pirates in general would be cool, too.

Trophies, graffiti, jury-rigged moonshine production, and all sorts of luxuries, creature comforts, and non-milspec stuff. Maybe even a bit of superstition thrown in. A high-ranking officer, for instance, might have a king-size bed with an honest-to-God wooden frame. Good luck charms might hang from the air vents. A crewman might have a potted plant somewhere that reminds him of home. The lower decks could be the gathering place for all the hangers-on of the actual crew--wives, prostitutes, vendors, scavengers, knife-sharpeners, tattoo artists, etc. Pirate ships might also be home to all manner of vermin, poorly maintained machinery, etc.

It was aired on Cartoon Network. Virtually everyone who was a kid in the 1980s and 1990s has probably seen it.

Most people dont know about macross or robotech actually and if they did they would just think its another kind of Gundam.

Hello /tg/, I have a quick EotE question I hope to have answered.

I'm interested in using both shipfag's rule mods for starship combat as well as the various houseruled ships /swg/ has thrown in the dropbox, but could someone tell me if the HT and SS values for these ships are balanced for the base game or use with the shipfag's house rules? I don't want to apply the buff to something that already got it.

Thanks in advance for any answers.
>>
>>51594077
>>51594077
The values are not preajusted. I did the ships that way to ensure complete compatibility with any house rules or adjustments, not just mine.
Also, I've revised my house rules in the years since I originally put them up here.
I would now have piloting skill add outright difficulty dice to hit, with handling adding setbacks. I've also been experimenting with having handling upgrade the piloting difficulty die to reds, though I haven't used that one too much so far

With folks with foresight, I tend to load them on with good stuff they need to know, then bad stuff they can't change. Pick a few rotational points in the history and drive them to despair/make them cause them by trying to prevent them. Pretty classic.

With regards to healers, test their commitment to healing. Make an old enemy - preferably one that is petty, but caused great damage, like a con man - then have them turn up in need of medical aid later: genuinely desperate. See if they deny them.

Diplomats in Star Wars are prone to getting overly involved in conflicts, and even using blasters or lightsabers when things don't go their way. See: Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi as "Ambassadors"; Viceroy Bail Organa; Senator Padme Amidala; Princess Leia.
>>
>>51589889
This.
I need some proud warrior race dudes to fill a villainous terrorist role in my game? I have Deathwatch, and my players can go 'ooooh, Deathwatch!'

But that isn't to say that you automatically shy away from the players discovering the last remaining survivor of an Imperial purge on some weird force tradition that listens to the winds and weather to auger the future.
Yes, the Baran-do sages exist, but how many of your players care in the same way they care about Mandos? Also there isn't anything wrong with duplicating similar themes - heck if someone at your table turns out to be a massive Baran-do sages fan - incorporate some story around those similarities later!
Canon vs. New stuff doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.

>>51592386
What the fuck is Macross? Is it a sport?
>>
>>51596296
That's one of the few things the prequels did right. Even as a kid I remember loving the senate bits and the political talk much more than the love story and the anakin crap.
