I just come here to complain about tron, because it's always a really boring matchup in MTGgoldfish Against the Odd's Videos.

>Oh look, the opponent got turn 3 karn again!

The one exception to this is when Seth had commandeer in hand. That was hilarious, and something every tron player deserves to have happen to them over and over and over again.

Fuck tron.

Angel's Grace Control primarily and some Karn Tribal on the side. Not really that crazy about Karn Tribal, its ok, but not nearly as fun as Angel's Grace Control.

Considering making Titan Shift, it seems like a fun deck that suits my play style. I tend to enjoy combo decks.

Nah, the U-Tron deck I had built was one based on Possessed Portal/Spine of Ish Sah/Trading Post shenanigans, as I already had all of the cards except for the Expedition Maps (which I decided to pick up). https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-93-20-tix-modern-trading-post-tron

I played against an eternal dominion deck on MTGO. I was Martyr Proc and the board go to a position where neither of us could kill each other and we both had mistviel plains so no milling out either. There's no 'mutually agree to a draw' option on MTGO, so I had to play for 40 minutes just passing till he timed out.
>>
>>51464369
Aether Vial flash Gimmicks are pretty good too.
Most decks only run like 4-5 basics, so even without Arbiter you can still GQ and Path people hard enough that you eventually out attrition them. And Aven Mindcensor works as a 5th Arbiter so its not like you have to mulligan 3-4 times to get a good hand.
Hell you can forgo the regular DnT route and play CoCo in the deck to make everything extra gay.

Dude ive been trying to do that for a while now. Westvale abbey is pretty cool, ie sacrifice the goats to satan. Its janky and slow af
>>
>>51465229

What is your plan for getting around Leyline of Sanctity/Ivory Mask?

I'm not sure Crack the Earth would work well in the deck, because your opponent can choose any permanent, even land, to avoid having to sack their protection against the Rack.

An idea that might work is to replace Crack the Earth with Smallpox, which would let you hit an opponent's land-creature-hand, but also include Haunted Plate Mail as an alternative win-condition that could skirt around smallpox.
>>
>>51465354
Leyline doesn't protect against the Rack
>>
>>51465354
Why would anyone play Ivory Mask over Leyline?
>>
>>51465382

Huh, doing a little bit of research, you're right. The Rack doesn't say "target." That's weird.

>>

>>
>>51465382
>>51465444

wait, derp, I meant their protection against discard, which would be their protection against the rack. You can't target them with your discard spells when they have Leyline of Sanctity/Ivory Mask out, so you still have to have a way to deal with that.

He goes in a deck that looks to play him on turn 3. He comes down and takes out any permanent you want, then begins fucking with your opponents hand. One thing he has over most other walkers is that his plus ability gives more loyalty than his neg takes.
>>
>>51468582

Wellll if you want to speed it up, I'd say drop the more controlly elements of it like Contaminated Ground, Waste Not, Sign in Blood, and Arena, and put in more creatures (Hypnotic Specter for discard/evasion, Black Knight if you've been running into Path). A way to gain life like "Syphon Life" in you sideboard would help against burn, which you could abuse with Dakmor Salvage. That's all the suggestions I got.
>>
>>51469282

What Cheeri0s deck?
>>
>>51469309
are such turn 3 drops common in the modern game? glad I stopped playing when I did
>>
>>51469270
In a Tron deck he can drop turn 3 and start exiling permanents before you have a good response to him. He's fast and his abilities hit anything. 4+ Loyalty points for attacking your opponents hand pays for 1.33 permanent exiles which is pretty crazy. He's a strong play in a Tron deck that gets him out fast along with huge creatures and board wipes around the same time. You Karn into an All is Dust and suddenly you have an empty board turn 5 and you most important land is gone.
>>
>>51469311
Thanks, I have a playset of Bloodghast and I was thinking of adding Cry of Contrition, what do you think of that over raven's crime (I rarely want to sacrifice the land and waste turns dredging it)

I forgot Hypnotic Spectre existed, might go for that over Black cats or Abyssal nocturnus.
>>
>>51469337
the puresteel/sram deck that digs for retract and can bounce everytying to draw their entire deck and kill you on t2.

Yet another reason why they should just ban storm in modern. All these retards crying for fast mana bans and then something comes along to just slightly justify it and we get 2 decks that die as a byproduct of storms degeneracy.
>>
>>51469369

Tron is a deck that, when three particular lands are on the field at the same time, they can generate 7 colorless mana together total. It's the only "fast mana" available in Modern and therefore it can power out big colorless cards faster than any other deck.
>>
>>51468956
It seems you do, as you bothered to write down this elaborate, wellwritten retort.
>>
>>51469430
what a ridiculous design decision.

Sounds like WoTC jumped the shark some time ago
>>
>>51469419

Raven's Crime is neat for keeping an opponent's hand clean in the late game if you've stalled out. However, it is a control-ish card. I'd say you can drop it entirely or keep it at one. I haven't ever seen someone use Cry of Contrition or the other Haunt cards effectively in modern (it worked well enough in Limited, though). I'd keep piling in on creatures that force your opponent to discard when they enter the battlefield or when they hit the opponent.

Tron lands were printed in 1994, they were re-printed and allowed into modern and they're not really broken. Being combo that needs 3 pieces that can only be played 1 at a time means its extremely susceptible to a number of cheap land removals and has counters like any other strategy. It's also weak to faster decks like Infect and burn.

The real niggerish cards that are probably a bit too good are things like Chalice of the Void or Aether Vial which are crucial for Tron and Tribal respectively
>>
>>51469527
sorry anon, I clearly don't know what I'm talking about if they were printed in 94. I still think it's a goofy decision that breaks the meta by having everyone play them, or everyone playing land removal instead.

Then again, I think that cards like Dark Ritual are quite fun...

>>51470075
How exactly is tectonic edge saving you from 3 tron lands?
>>
>>51470075
>gives a basic
>costs 1 and comes far too late against tron
Neither of these cards are good against tron. Ignoring tron and having a fast clock is the only good strategy. Anything else is akin to bolting a (unequipted) memnite
>>
Or resolving crumble to dust
>>
>>51470092
Ghost quarters replaces it with a basic land and they're going to keep playing lands with expedition maps, Tectonic edge isn't a bad option for taking out a eldrazi temple or the Tower Turn 5. You could also run Contaminated Ground or Blood moon.
Im not suggesting you make a a deck built around these land removal, these are just land removal options a deck can take for disabling the Tron battery without having to alter colour or pay a lot of mana.

Also a lucky chalice can lock you out of most of your burn spells and instantly blow the game for you, having off cost destroy land/artifact on the sideboard could actually be a good option.

They basically cut Master of Etherium & Memnite slots. Memnite helps steal wins with Springleaf Drum, Arcbound Ravager, and Cranial Plating. Master of Etherium is good versus (non-white) Eldrazi as a big body. Hmm....
>>
Something to try out at FNM & see where the strengths are! Hope of Ghirapur is another card I'd like to test (as well as Pia's Revolution). Not sure if any are relevant in the current meta to warrant deviating from stock mainboard, but FNM is pretty low stakes.

At the moments its a wildcard deck that occasionally makes your opponent pick two big creatures then lets you play them both for 2 mana. its probably wont get a lot better

Back In those days cards like Strip Mine and Armageddon were a thing so land destruction effects would keep you off and there were no big colourless mana sinks that were backbreaking when cast. Also against land destruction people would play mana dudes/mana rocks to beat aside land destruction. Now the current thing is Tron has far too many efficient cantrips and tutors in the deck that just find those lands quick and easy.

Main:
2x Spellskite
4x Matter Reshaper
4x Thought-Knot Seer
4x Reality Smasher
3x Endbringer
1x Wurmcoil Engine
2x Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
3x Warping Wail
3x Dismember
4x Chalice of the Void
4x Expedition Map
1x Batterskull

1x Sanctum of Ugin
3x Wastes
3x Ghost Quarter
1x Sea Gate Wreckage
4x Eldrazi Temple
The Tron lands

SB:
3x Pithin Needle
3x Relic of Progenitus
1x Oblivion Stone
2x Ratchet Bomb
2x Surgical Extraction
3x Spatial Contortion
1x All is Dust
>>
>>51472394
I used Conduit of ruin to find Ulamog more reliably to get rid of the bridge, it is difficult though if not impossible to do with colourless unless someone knows a cheaper than 7 way to dispose of an artifact or permanent. What do you think of Endbringer? I see it in a lot of lists but I took it out, warping wail dealt with critters 1 toughness critters.
>>

4x Chalice of the Void

>Conduit turn 3 with tron lands
>Drops a temple, Void winnower
>I cant do anything
>he drops another chalice for 3
>I can only play 2 spells in my deck
>He plays Aeons torn
>>
>>51472448
I have some Conduits here and I was thinking of using them for that reason exactly. A Wordly Tutor that comes with a big creature sounds really powerful. Have they performed well for you? How many do you run?

Endbringer has a lot of abilities, and works best in grindy matchups. It can kill lots of 1 thoughness creatures, like Lingering Souls tokens, which Warping Wail can't really deal with and can render some unfair decks useless if for some reason they're too slow since it can force an Emrakul to be unable to attack. Oh, and it draws cards too. Overall, a very efficient creature.

No. Generally speaking, by the time you can play a six CMC creature, your opponent can just hold lands in their hand and still cast everything in their deck. So in most matchups that card will be a 6CMC 5/7 colorless creature, and that's it.

>>51470075

Mono black control is good though. I know it's not as good as muh $3000 dollar Jund deck, but that doesn't mean it's not competitive. The problem is that these unfair cards are allowed into a format where there are no answers for them and wotc does nothing about it.

I mean I've all but given up playing modern except when it's with my EDH group, because at least they have some decency.

jesus christ just buy some ratchet bombs if you need to get rid of lantern pieces you tremendous child.

How do I use shadow of doubt and ghost quarter properly? Shadow before gq? Or gq then shadow in response?

Literally impossible to beat Lantern unless you spend $1000 on some balls to the wall aggro deck that's no fun to play.

Lantern deserves a ban not just because it's op, but because it's utterly unfun to play against.

I'm already the Elves specialist in my group. Legacy, Modern and Frontier

Even mono green stompy is more competitive.

The order very rarely matters. If you're against a deck that can counter your Shadow of Doubt then cast Shadow first because that would be the only time it would matter.

Sometimes you have the answers, sometimes your opponent does. Stop hating on that lovable super synergistic garbage pile because you're too inflexible to alter or abandon your jank brew

Do you know why people netdeck? It's because those decks can work, even if they are very unpopular or have better substitutes, but they still work.
Currently you are hating one 2 very interesting decks that are no way in the power level of infect, Dredge, or those very fast aggro-combo decks. Affinity is basically a trademark of Modern, they oldest deck of the format, with a very interesting gamestyle and it's very interesting to see during GPs etc.
Latern is a unique control deck, one of the few true control decks in the format, it can be an aweful experience to play against, but is in no way overpowered. Modern is in a dire need of Control Decks. It has a very diverse Meta, but not a diverse Archetype. Asking to kill a deck just because of your attempt of being a snowflake in a competitive environment, while that deck being unique is just plain disgusting.
If you aren't having fun, there is a simple solution: use an effective Deck. And no, not every deck costs 1000$, many decks costs 400-500$, even other more expensive decks can be very cheap in other countries/continents, like Affinity (400-450€ in Europe).
>>
>>51477969
Affinity have a pretty good win rate senpai
And I never tested to play against it, but cheeri0s looks strong with sram

But the others cards are ok
Also :
>playing nothing but swamps
>complaining about blood moon
????
>>
>>51478215
He/She/It (most likely the latter one) is either baiting or doesn't know how to play, but considering his/her/its option of a Deck, is most likely the latter in all options.

>Starfield is the weakest wincon imo, details below
>really need to run oblivion rings
>don't need eight mana ramps, I'd say five max or you're wasting slots
>need suppression field mainboard but be careful about fetches
>if you're running four prison you don't need two sphere's, i'd even just run 3 and 1 let tutors do their job
>mainboard a RIP as a tutor target
>you do not need four leylines of hexproof in your 75 3 is plenty i only run 2 split 1-1

About wincons:
This isn't legacy so you can't just shit angels and assume that's gonna work. I have no problems with someone wanting to run Sigil as their main wincon. It's good matchups are problems 4/4 fliers can solve and that's most things, but it's a 5 drop that has to be cast sorcery speed and you have one card that can get it back from gy and that's your other wincon here.

Ethereal armor is gas for W, and Conscription resolving ends the game on the spot usually, both options for immediate beatdown threats.

As for Starfield, while it gets back eliminated threats like ORing it also makes everything fucking targetable by creature hate and I HATE DAMNATION.

(I do Bant cause I'm a huge tool so I use Tamiyo and Tutelage mainboard with conscription and Sigil on the side. )

>Interesting how according to /tg/ the expertise list is far superior but was strangely absent. Really makes me think

Really? I never saw that. The deck is cool, don't get me wrong, but requires a lot of working parts to even be workable.

You have to have a greedy-as-all-get-out manabase, in addition to requiring multiple cards in your hand that are not at all synergistic and can even be useless without the other. All of the expertises are not worth the mana to cast them.

I still wonder if I should have traded it away back when it was around $220ish, but the art is too good to trade it away now.

my friend would always talk about mtg and i would call him a fag, eventually peaked my interest so i bought a 10$ box of commons scrapped together a deck and tried my luck at modern fnm, got rocked. and here i am 2000
$ spent later playing mono green devotion

But does a tango land refer to a land that requires two basics to come into play untapped? Or the one that requires you to reveal a second land from your hand? Or one that taps for two types of mana?

Naming a land with a shitty esoteric label that could easily apply to many other kinds of lands is stupid. When I say battleland you at least know what I'm talking about.
>>
>>51473132
But you can play the card anyway. You don't need two other lands to play it.
>>
>>51476914
Just play mono black twin. It plays exactly the same as before the ban

This is ridiculously wrong. Affinity is tier 10, utter garbage, without opal, dude.
