Why is dead black and not green? Death is something natural.
Natural = Green

undeath is unnatural
idk, shut up, who cares.
>>51323605
death by black means is certainly not natural

Colors have overlap, the circle of life and death is the overlap that is, as a result, strongly expressed in the BG color pair.
You'll notice that hunting and predation is strongly in pure green. General "death" though is a much broader concept that is centrally in black.
death is spooky
thus black

Natural death *is* green. Green gets cards which reference death's place in the life cycle (fecundity), cards which represent new life coming from the decay of old (loam) possibly through detrivorous means (goyf). It's half of the death obsessed guild and hosts a number of the death-based creature types. When it kills it does so through natural processes (fighting/predation) rather than unnatural ones (black magic) and doesn't deal with the undead except in specific contexts but it's as much the color of death in general as black is.
The color pie is anthropocentric.

Death is Black and Green. That's the crux of their pairing, just like War is both Red and White, or Evolution is both Blue and Green.
Green is only "natural" deaths, e.g. death by combat or old age. You can't represent death by old age in a magic duel though, without using time magic at least (which is white or blue usually).
If you think about the term "a means to an end", green would see death only as an end. Black would be somewhere between the two, sometimes using death to as a resource, and sometimes causing it outright.

Of black's current killing tools, only disease and poison fit in green (and it DOES get poisonous stuff. Disease is rarely shown to begin with).
The rest is entirely unnatural death.
Death is part of both colors. In green, it is simply part of the cycle. In black, it is USED, a too.
It is what brings the two together yet also what differentiates them.
>>51323605
Death is natural but does not always occur naturally.

Okay, have a Dead Bear - 1G 0/0.
>>51323605
Metal is natural too, but doing crazy stuff with it is blue and sometimes red. Same thing goes with death and how black uses it.

But Force of Savagery only costs 1 more for 8/0
