Bear in mind the term was coined in the context of military veterans with PSTD, which makes the "trigger" part considerably more literal.

There are people who, through no fault of their own, respond extremely and adversely to certain stimuli. The issue is that thin-skinned idiots have co-opted the term to mean "anything I don't like".

You rarely hear about the people with legitimate triggers because they, being otherwise sane and functional people who dislike their own reactions, make a personal effort to restrain themselves where possible and to avoid situations that'd provoke an episode, whereas the tumblr cunts are far too absorbed in their own lives to try and solve their own problems and instead demand that the rest of the world cater to their feefees.

One thing to remember about PTSD is that it used to be called things like "shell-shock" and "battle fatigue", but then people noticed that it didn't only happen in soldiers, pretty much anything traumatic can cause it, rape, abuse, grievous injury, all sorts; and what become triggers can be almost anything, the song playing while they were raped, the smell of the disinfectant used in the bathroom they where left to bleed out in, the nickname they where given by bullies as a child when they got stomped on in the mud.
The poster, although facetious and missing the point, is somewhat true, almost anything can be a trigger, but instead of it being a case where you can't say anything without possibly triggering someone, a better way of looking at it is be aware of who you are with and if they have mentioned negative reactions to things. You wouldn't brag about beating a breathalyser with someone who lost their wife to a drunk driver; and if they asked to skip a song or change the radio station when a song that brings back memories plays, well it's hardly an imposition. Nobody is saying you have to give up alcohol, or that you are evil for enjoying that song, just to show some decency towards your common man, who knows, one day you might be the one who has to ask for a change in music.
