Any self respecting Aux army should have an assault vehicle. Once I saw a Stormlord super taxi holding its limit of charonites and a super punchy lord marshal. I wouldnt recommend unless you play ultra aggressive and get out and charging before it blows.

The death guard vs salamander throwdown on Nocturne. The salamanders still win, but through warfare and having actual military defences on their homeworld, not through giant flamethrowers, convenient earthquakes and the wildlife turning up to punch all the DG tanks like that one scene in Avatar.

Production capacity. Terra's resources and space are exhausted and Mars can call upon old pacts with other forge worlds, a luxury Terra never had. Even Luna's better for marine production facilities.

Also, so what if the bolter is more reliable, Custodes are not your standard front line troops. It's like comparing hot-shot lasguns and lasguns. Hot-shots require far more maintenance and care, but offer more bang. That's why stormies use them, because of the bang. They can live with the downsides because they're not expected to suffer through the same stuff regular guardsmen are. So Custodes using more powerful volkites, even if they're harder to maintain, should be obvious.

They're pretty decent. Their legion rule is +1 to wound in assault, which is a good deal more reliable than what a lot of other legions get. They have a decent RoW which makes you take all the jump packs and DS them T1, which gets you +1I on the charge. Their special weapon is AP2, two-handed, and doubles your wound pool. That makes it arguably the best of the bunch, especially once you factor in that you'll probably be striking first and wounding on 3s, and an absolute rape-train against multi-wound models and troops alike. Some people will try to argue that they read a post on a forum by a guy who knows a guy who spoke to Bligh at an event one time, and he said he said he said it works in some way which directly contradicts RAW. Ignore them. They can also replace any heavy flamer with an assault cannon for a modest price, and take inferno pistols instead of plasma pistols. Their only real downside is that they have to take more infantry than tanks, and it'll be ages before they get their special units and characters. Even so, Sanguinius is widely expected to be an absolute monster as he's the only primarch who's supposed to be able to take down pre-chaos Horus.

I'm working on a Traitor Mechanicum army, and I'm wondering why I would ever take Adsecularis when I can just ally in Cult Horde+ Tainted Flesh Levy squads. For 380 points, so 80ish Adsec, I get a Force Commander, 3 Apothecary guys to grant FnP, and 100 Fearless Hatred Rending 2A bodies that score and give no VPs, and are still Fellow Warriors so no ally problems since I don't need any of the Admech buffs anyway. All that and all I lose for it is a 4- armour and gain a 5+ FnP.

So far my army plan is two Thallax Destructor cohorts (I have enough Rending), a kitted out Archmagos Reductor, some Enginseers, two or three artillery tanks, a Macrocarid and three Destructors to go in it, two Vorax because they're cool and the giant horde of an allied detachment at 2.5k. To go up to 3000, it's either a Knight and another Magos/some unit padding, or a Baneblade variant of some kind.

Fluff is a Reductor fleet with a strong Biologis presence aligned with Xana, so obviously mental experiments as cloned cannon fodder as opposed to Scoria's daemonic robot shock troopers.

Gamewise I'm just starting to put the army together, and wondering over the conversion work I want to do. Also colours. Lots of Nid parts, obviously. Thinking of having some converted "Spore mine" Cyber-Occularis and biological shells stacked on the medusae gunnery platforms. Crypt Ghoul levy tarpits, and not sure what to do for Magi yet. Anyone have any good ideas for colour schemes or converting? Something whitish, with Nihilakh Oxide for cool "antiseptic" blue weathering on metal?

Thing is, I want it to look "Mad Science put to warfare" not Tyranids or Nurgle, so not full bio-abomination on the vehicles or personnel that are sentient and not robots or chaff, ect.
