Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where claims of "no profile left behind" are clearly Aleph propaganda.

Have a tourney coming up and this is my first real exposure to competitive and I am also fairly new to the game. The missions will be Supplies, Frontline, Firefight, Antenna Field and Supremacy. Currently I have 3 lists in the air and trying to figure out which ones to take. Which do you guys think will be fun to play but at the same time I won't hold up the game so I can make sure we both get all our turns?
Wu Ming Core + Bao Harris

Suggestions for improvement? The lighting makes it seem a good deal yellower than it is in reality. More of a tan/beige with copper mane/hair. Thinking maybe a desaturated orange drybrush on the fringes of the mane to help it look a little less flat, or maybe just a wash and then duplicate whatever happens to the mane to the Dogface's hair.

>>51217385
I mean, the models that are there -- removing one Tankhunter and added in a Dog-Soldier -- and using the Spetsnaz Sniper as another Scout Sniper -- is actually one of my go to lists. Kazaks work very well as an elite army, probably moreso than most of other Ariadna factions. I generally stay to a single Combat Group, and don't think I've ever run more than 3 Line Kazaks + Dozer + Doktor in my experience.

We have a cheating Haqq player that borders three fucking combat groups, though, so that's soured everyone's taste on doing anything that gets you compared to him.

- Switch both imetrons to an Ikadron or R-Drone, make everything 1 combat group.
- unlinked burst 1 ML is terrible, if you really want the ML I'd give it to an Unidron. And the Rodok is much better used as an offensive unit.

very. Nomads and Ariadna are probably the most popular in my area. During casual Infinity game nights, it's usually a mix bag though

How about you try the Army Builder, punch in everything you have and then decide what to buy next?
You already have Marauders as your link (or Grunt Core + Marauders Haris) and everything else in the box. You can easily decide what to do from there.
Also, if you're new I'd recommend playing 200 pts a few times, to get familiar with the rules and your units.

Older than sin. The one's in the updated Vanilla starter are really nice, but the blisters are garbage. Hell, even the OOP starter had better Line Kazaks. Check out Bolt Action's soviets for some decent equivalents, if your table is open to proxies. Or just be man and don't deal with Line Kazaks until the sectorial turns them into ablative health for your Vet Kazaks as well as B2 BS 16 Flash Pulse platforms.

How do you feel about something like a hackable gun emplacement in the middle of the table that could be activated by one of the players? Thematically it could probably fit a Svalarheima table, along the Huangdi border.

After all, from the RPG preview:
>Many sectors of Svalarheima have been transformed by the NeoColonial Wars. Filled with explosives, booby traps, and automated defense platforms (many of which are now malfunctioning due to age), these No Man’s Lands are incredibly dangerous. Petitions by the miners to disable the automated defense platforms have been denied.

I'd just generally be a fan of stationary gun emplacements. As an Ariadna player, I'd be pissed if it was Hacking that activated them, think it a neat idea of it was just Specialists in general. And while I don't imagine it being particularly effective, the idea of a Manned gun emplacement for Ariadna would have be very very interested.
>>
Hi, I'm a Nomad player looking at the new Bacon-Nin starter set, but wondering what's more effective on the Transgression-Nibbler Attentive: The HMG in the new box, or trying to track down some of the now OOP old boxes somewhere while they're still fairly common to obtain a Mk 12? I know a well-placed Sin Eater can be a reactive fire nightmare for my opponents, enough to make taking him head-on suicidal for many but tough units and MSVs, but long story short.

I'm assuming the HMG's extra shot and slightly better ranged accuracy can be more useful in keeping things locked down at range, but the Mk12's 0 SWC and three points plus better close-in accuracy could also make up for the lost shot as well as fit into tight points costs in lists a little better, not to mention handle any closer encounters more effectively (like inside objective rooms). Am I right in assuming they're both about equal in value as long as I don't try and have them perform the wrong jobs at the wrong times?
>>
>>51228520
Yum.

Why not both?
>>
>>51228181
>>51228616
What about hackers OR engineers for the guns in general?

Or, if there's different types of guns for scenario/campaign play, maybe they have different requirements. Perhaps more advanced guns have better security needing hackers, but the traditional method of forced entry (IE a hammer) works just as fine on less complex guns, while very simple ones are so simple as to be unhackable and need the old brute strength and ignorance.
>>
>>51228804
MK12 is a good weapon when you don't have the SWC for a HMG. Also better at fighting chuckle fucks who get in Pistol range
>>
>>51228804
It's got the damage of a HMG, range bands of a spitfire and costs no SWC. It's pretty much the best of both worlds on a budget.

>It's pretty much the best of both worlds on a budget.

What are some good ways to protect yourself from hacking? I was thinking making repeater nets, with one really good hacker keeping an eye on everything. how well would this work out? Pic related
>>
>>51235249
Have a killer hacker handy. Haqqislam is actually pretty good against hacking, as most of their good stuff is unhackable LI and their hackers tend to have WIP14 at least. Also they can Jam everyone with Ghazi.
>>
>>51235280
How can I defend a TAG? My guard got possessed in a game today, because I brought 0 hackers, so should I just have a hacker near? Or a repeater for them to act through?
>>
>>51235249
Riddling the hackers with bullets is effective. KHDs are pretty good as well, though AHDs can work as a substitute. Oblivion is a fucking nasty program that can completely shut down a hacker.
>>
>>51228884
The thing is ariadna doesn't have engineers either.
Wasn't the whole N2 change to specialists done exactly, because armies like ariadna just couldn't do missions with anything else then their Lt?
>>
>>51235384
Dozers, Irmandinhos, Moblots.
>>
>>51235304
What realy CB should do is finaly give some TAGs to ariadna. Just make them camo and unhackable, because old tech doesn't pop up on scaners and the game will be much better. No more of thise msv2 stupid shit killing whole armies.
A 4 wound TAG arm 6 with dual auto cannons, camo and an option to take a single auto cannon dog warrior pilot that can hulk out and jump out of a destroyed tag and deliver the smack down. Of course it should have a proper high cost. 60pts base plus probably another 10-15 for the extra survivability over two tank hunters. And the dog warrior one should probably cost around 80pts, to realy make people rethink their armies. Plus it would actualy make ariadna viable for all those tournaments with limited insartion, and not just make people spam nomad and aleph lists.

Of course I want ariadna to win, and have non shit models. If other factions can have OP models and rules, ariadna should get them too.

Or maybe you need to git gud.

>I recognize your style. Are all your Nomads with that yellow tribal pattern or just spaces where you can fit it?

It's pretty much exactly the latter. Mobile Briagada. Iguana. This guy. Can't quite fit it on the LI/MI. The rest kind of have a almost standard nomad scheme. The "tribal" markings are more of a legacy leftover from when I was painting Dark Eldar in a cult of red grief scheme.

Maybe infinity shouldn't be about hackers and msv2 snipers sitting in their sniper nest. When I started the game in n2 it was fun. People could play with good armies, that didn't look like anime. there was a ton of ariadna players, ton of qapu khałai. Game was fun. Now it is all about who has the best msv2-3 ODD TO multip sniper or missle launcher seeing both objectives and killing everything that comes near it. Game went from good and fun, to rather shit.

Here's the thing: A PanO Sniper Rifle costs 1.5 SWC. An Ariadnan one only 0.5SWC. And it kills Nisses and Intruders in one shot due to Shock. And you have T2 snipers too, one on HI.
If there's anything Ariadna can do, is outsniping everybody.
Either your table is weird or you're shit and can't take advantage of it.

MSV2 gives Nisse no advantage over a defensive Grunt or Marauder link. Or Chasseurs mining up the midfield.
>>
>>51236698
Caledonia doesn't have grunts, maruders or chasseurs. The only "sniper" for ariadna is the cataran, and he hits a nyss on a sniper tower on a -9.
>>51236684

>>
>>51236737
>The only "sniper" for ariadna is the cataran, and he hits a nyss on a sniper tower on a -9.
Only if you're a tactical moron.
Cateran has Limited Camouflage and the same range bands a Nisse does. MSV2 negates Mimetism bonus, but not Surprise Shot. So what you do is keep your Cateran in total cover until your active turn and then shoot the Nisse. You get -6 at most for Mimetism and Cover and +3 for range, shooting at 9 with B2. Nisse gets -6 for Surprise Shot and + for range, making it one shot at BS 10.
Suddenly it's not that bad, is it?

Also a Cateran costs half the points a Nisse does. Take two. Or three. Then make them all Regular with Wallace.

N3 is about stacking modifiers, so abusing Surprise Shot is still a valid tactic.
>>
>>51236681
Caledonia player here, pretty sure I don't count as a non ariadna fucker. Your meta is trash. Why in the fuck would you set up a table that allows a sniper in the back of the board to see every objective?

The game has issues, dear god does it have issues. But your inability to set up a non-trash table is not one of them.

Having twin pistols doesn't give a +1 Burst to their ARO, right? Somebody last tournament I was playing was saying it was so and I was like, no, that can't be right. I thought it was that the +1 Burst was to the weapon itself, and AROs would be burst 1 as normal.
>>
>>51236952
Burst from twin weapons does not apply to AROs. It has to be specifically stated for something to add burst to an ARO.
>>
>>51236972
Yeah, and I see the "This rule is only usable in the Active Turn."

That guy two tables down insisting it was the case was just cheating (knowingly or unknowingly) then.

He ARO'd with the double viral pistol of the Ayyar in a game against an opponent that wasn't me but I was watching because I finished with my game already.

And yeah, otherwise neurocinetics on the Yan Huo would have no point.
>>
>>51236802
>Nisse gets -6 for Surprise Shot
Surprise shot is -3 mate. (Surprise attack (CC) is -6).
>>
>>51237052
I left out some bits there. I meant -6 for Surprise Shot and Cover (because you're not shooting out of cover, are you?). I also left a + instead of a +3 for range.
Also my Nisse tends to end up with a Fiday knife in his back, so I'm used to the -6.

I had a really good laugh at this. MoM is nowhere near autistic, he's a very personable banker with a wife and three kids. He'll laugh and say you have to get into the 'sneaky Shasvastii' mindset to play them, but it's not serious. He'll be the first to tell you his strategy revolves around board control, positioning, avoiding fair fights, sneaking around. He's patient about when he'll bring a Speculo, or when to bring the Sphinx or Malignos out even when there's an obvious hole in his points, but there's no special arithmancy going on. He'll CC you if he needs to, usually sticking a Shrouded against a TAG and leaving it there for you to spend orders dislodging. But he wins his games without killing much.

Infinity is a game of managing your turn and your Orders, making them pay dividends...is it any surprise a banker is good at that? Leave autism for the [inserted hated game of choice here] players.

Yeah, that actually works nice. Janissary doctor & Al Hawwa AHD are standard issue specialists for me. Halqa are great and don't get the recognition they deserve a lot of the time.
There's a few small tweaks I'd make but it's just what I'd do, mostly to make use of the spare SWC. From strongest recommendation to weakest:

1) Upgrade the Djanbazan to a sniper. You have two spare points and nothing with a +3 mod past 32". Djanbazan sniper wrecks shit and looks cool as fuck whilst doing it.

2) Swap the Zhayedan for a Spitfire Khawarij. The Breaker Zhayedan's
great, but you're a little lacking in high burst weaponry, especially if you're up close. Zhayedan's also a much less tricksy piece in a list with few tricks. Super-jump can let you pull unexpected moves.

3) Get rid of something to give a Halqa a Hacking Device, That means a lot of up-board infowar early game to stop ramboing HI & TAGs, as well as being able to buff the Kameel. It'd probably mean two Ghazi, so you're swapping redundancy for utility, but I think it's worth it.

Those aren't "units", those are characters using various equipment. Think of them like Knauf: it's impossible to tell where he is from by his equipment alone.

The guy in white looks like he's wearing a version of PanO power armour. Maybe it's something more widely available to civilians than ORC or knight suits.
The girl with the sword is an Imperial Agent, but possibly lower rank than Pheasant. And that's DA or EXP sword in action.

The other guys are just some dregs. Probably Ateks.

Similarly, the girl in pic related is no "unit", she's just a Nomad journalist.

braces were cool in theory, but there was basically no point in ever using them. For the amount of orders it took to mount up, move, and dismount, you could have just walked the model up there itself and actually done whatever it is you wanted it to do.
>>
>>51243649
yep I know it's a gimmicky shenanigans list and it's meant for fun, but still if you lose initiative and are forced to play first you waste 1/3 of your total orders for that game.
In addition you imply that the single TO marker can see everywhere but that's hadly the case unless you put it in an overwatch position.
What's more, as soon as you declare the first Alert ARO you drop out of TO marker state so I can freely engage your Lt (because it has to be the Lt) with, say, a HMG Hsien or a Rui Shi, putting you in LoL. The situation doesn't look too bright to be honest.

Are you referring to the Kum's hands? It's his sword which was cut in half by lightsaber girl

Yes, the gun is projecting a line of white goo, you can trace the line past the back of the guy in white and see the main projectile, I guess it's some kinda adhesive based weapon.

>Roughly humanoid in shape, with a long muscular tail that they use for locomotion in the water and long, spindly limbs that end in six-digit grasping extremities with black, retractable claws. Their skin is an iridescent blue-grey. They have wide, fl at-faced heads with two bulbous eyes.
>Their skulls do not completely encase their brains, which instead bulge out of the back of their heads and are protected with a highly muscled, flexible mantle. Similar muscular tissue fi lls their chest cavity, protecting their internal organs from the pressures of the deep ocean and assisting with respiration.
>The iridescent quality of their skin is caused by pigment proteins that are used to reinforce their body language underwater.

>Helot eggs hatch in the sissolu waters (of medium depth) and are cared for by a monogamous pair of mature adults. The young fry are mermaid-like in shape and remain with their parents in the sissolu until they develop legs, at which point they go through the juvenile rites, are recognized as young adults, and usually migrate to the Uplands.

>(...)More commonly, however, mature adults will remain in the sissolu until their legs atrophy from old age (at which point their tail usually reinforces, restoring them to their original, mermaid-like form).

>The colour of Helot eyes varies depending on the state of their internal biological changes, most of which are triggered by pressure and indicate their general emotional inclination or state. These colours can often be counterintuitive compared to the emotions they’re associated with in human cultures however, and this has given rise to new emotional metaphors becoming part of the Varunan parlance: Blue rage. Crimson calm. Green lust.

About that
>As young adults, females have three oestrus moments a year in which they become fertile and lay clutches of four to six eggs (always in the relatively shallow waters of the Uplands). Each nesting is then “claimed” and fertilised by a young male adult who will defend it against others until calassus is achieved. (Until that point, the eggs could be successfully refertilised by a second claimant.) Once the eggs reach calassus, however, the male will move the eggs to the sissolu waters below and then abandon them.

What do you think is "the big thing" that CB mentioned in their future releases seminar?
I'm going with a big box like the USAriadna one, an early release for one of next book's sectorials like Tunguska or Vedic.

Another possibility is the resculpt of some of the oldest started boxes in the game (like a couple of Ariadna ones, Hassassin, MO) to bring them to current quality standard.

Why would a species with external fertilization feel lust? It's even color-coded to be more easily recognizable by others.
What's the point of communicating the need to fertilize eggs? It seems counterproductive, the only ones who care are the nest defenders, and you don't want to alert them.

That's not a howitzer, and that's not a "transporter".
This is a low pressure 100mm gun that can shoot anti-tank guided missiles (against armored targets) or explosive shells (against the rest of the creation). The turret also sports a coaxial 30mm autocannon.
This is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle meant to be used in airborne operations, by providing mobility, protection and firepower to otherwise unsupported paratroopers.
This is not an Armored Personnel Carrier, nor is it a truck.

The mine would still be a hit as long as the Missile Launcher passes his BS rolls. The model with ths Dodge ARO can dodge only with the template is placed over him; If he does not have LoF it's a -3MOD to the his PH. If he passes the FtF rolls against the ML, he is not affected by it.

The Mine is still hit if the ML user passes the Normal Rolls to shoot it.

Well considering that most soldiers who wear armour have the front and sides of torso covered ice-pick does make sense fro attacks in the neck area where it is really hard to put hard armour without compromising ability of the wearer to move and aim.

Check his own armour. Only joints are more or less open and semi-open side gaps further to the back on torso can be easily covered with elbows in melee.

Hey all, I've been thinking about getting into Infinity for ages, and resolved to this year so I got me some models I liked and started painting. Now they're painted and I dunno where to go from here. I've watched some of the learn to play videos, I've started chatting to the local players but haven't played a game yet. What should I expect? Any hints or tips? I've done other wargames, but not in a couple years now.
>>
>>51273642
You're probably gonna get destroyed in your first couple games because you won't be thinking about exactly what veteran players would be thinking about, but that's a-okay. Accept it as a learning experience and don't get angry. Try your best to understand what you did wrong or what you forgot about, and remember it as well as you can. There are so many rules and skills, it'll take a bit to learn.

Or maybe I'm totally wrong and you'll be a natural, wrecking everyone who dares challenge you. Who knows?
The main thing is, have fun and learn.
>>
>>51273642

>>
>>51273642
>What to expect?
Some fun, and a lot of looking up of rules. Having a device with the wiki handy would be great and convenient. Even if you learn all the rules beforehand, there's always one rule you misinterpreted or forgot beforehand.

>Any hints or tips?

Well, if you haven't already, mess around with Army builder and try to start with 200-250 point games before you get into 300. List building is pretty forgiving, general rules of thumb for being "smart" about it with the missions of ITS is to have at least one full combat group, roughly 4/10 of your guys should be specialists for the mission, and trying not to have Hidden Deployment TO Camouflage or AD Lt's as it starts you with loss of Lt.

Rule I've gotten wrong before getting it right:

Template weapons, and how they hit others below the template as long as the template was a successful hit from the shooter's end, even if it lost the F2F roll.

Game thing I've seen people have trouble wrapping their head around:

The being able to pick a spot to shoot in an order, like the furthest back in a movement, or a guy peaking about the corner of a building and getting back to hiding behind it, then declaring shoot. Lots of orders are "simultaneous" so to speak.

Stuff I kept missing while playing:

How many things will say Short Skill/ARO to denote if it can be used in ARO, if "ARO" isn't in the box for the rule it isn't allowed for ARO. Example: "surprise shot" isn't allowed for ARO. Shooting someone from camo in ARO doesn't give the -3 mod.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Toni Macayana "the star"? I thought not. It's not a story the Yu Jing would tell you. It's a PanO legend. Toni Macayana was a Pilot of PanO, so powerful and such a star she could use the Stats to influence Eduardo to be OP... She had such a knowledge of the piloting that she could even keep the generic Tikbalangs from being fielded. The dark side of these stats is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. She became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing her power, which eventually, of course, she did. Unfortunately, she taught generic Tikbalangs everything she knew, then an Umbra Samaritan killed her in her sleep. It's ironic she could keep others from being fielded, but not herself.
