I'm looking to do a game in a sort of a D&D-meets-dark fantasy/cosmicism setting of my own invention. Thing is, as much as I like these genres, I don't read enough.
Is it a bad idea to do a game or plan a world in a genre if you aren't super-duper familiar with it? And if so, what are some good, easily accessible and digestible reads to help prepare me?

Op here, also I am quite familiar with Ravenloft. But I like worldbuilding too much, and would like to introduce a cosmology and some plot devices that really go against most of the rules of The Domains of Dread.

If you haven't read any of it, how do you know you like it in the first place?

Get WFRP and the Enemy Within campaign, freely adapt.

I guess it was a stupid question. I'm a slow reader, but just eager to get going with my idea
