Which ancient traditional game is the most enjoyable?
Lets say that "at least 200 years old" counts as ancient.

The game of love, either left or right handed.
200 years old counts as ancient? Sounds like a colonial American...
Roleplaying. Oldest fucking game there is.

I find Tafl pretty enjoyable. The fact that the battle takes place in every direction, as opposed to the "line up and fight" nature of chess, is very interesting.
We've never really been able to come up with a good set of rules though, it seems to either favor the King or the encircling force in one way or the other.

The Romans had 20 sided dice.

I'm pretty fond of Go myself.

dude, you're counting poker and whist as "ancient."
how about "pre-colombian" which still includes a handful of card games played with completely alien decks to modern users, as well as gets us into shit like Tafls and knucklebones and dice and race games.
I'm a fan of knucklebones. There isn't strategy so much as dexterity, but it can be a fun challenge. a quick home modern version I use involves just rolling d6, then picking up matching sets between a throw and catch of something.
Neat. I'd never heard of this before. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hnefatafl
