Details is hard to track, because there are so many, but settings - I just love anything that basically becomes the EP equivalent to a dungeon.

I love, like, space setting stuff and exploring all the weirdness of the greater universe so I love exotic exoplanets, abandoned habitats, working on places like the surface of the moon or the inside of an asteroid, I love the TQZ or Iapetus, etc. To me, an ideal EP game is like 40% Space/Future Setpieces, 40% Cyperpunk Technothriller and then 20% Space Cthulhus.

Who wins in an intergate slapfight between the Rortians and the Ultimates?

So someone a few threads back (can't remember which one) were talking about breeding rights can only be purchased by those who are upper class and wealthy, but that's never a given in the setting. If anything, the only things that were mentioned to need "breeding rights" are uplifts and certain specialized morphs like hibernoids.

The way I see it, people that are in splicers that they personally own (or were born in) don't require purchasing breeding rights. I guess if you want to play up the "corrupt corporation" angle you can say that's the case and also say the majority of splicers in the inner system require GSPs or something but I kinda feel like that's too bleak even for this setting. And I can't imagine even the Consortium's army of social engineers trying to justify requiring basically everyone to independently purchase the right to reproduce.

Plus that gives ammunition for mercurials, pointing out that basic splicers get free breeding rights but basic uplift morphs do not.

There's also a certain practicality you have to accept in sci-fi post the consumer electronics/wi-fi revolution too. Physical volume is at a premium in space - why would you own a shelf full of books when you can contain an astonishing more amount of data in a single device that fits in your pocket?

As neat as a "used future" aesthetic is from say, something like Alien, you also have to just think about the fact that its not the future of the 1970s and 80s anymore. Shit would be miniaturized, portable, easy to replace.

Why not both? Surely there's examples of each of them throughout the solar system. Some, if not many habitats would go for the gritty industrial sort of stuff because they're either unable to afford anything better or don't want to rely on nanotech or fabricators to construct everything. I'm sure EP's writers would probably say that those that prefer relying on cheaper or more older methods of constructing or maintain habitats are backwards biocon barbarians and their habitats dystopian hellholes if they don't embrace all of transhumanity's most cutting-edge technological advancements, but when has anyone actually adhered to the canon 100%?

There are very good reasons not to do so. The obvious one being that if mesh control is reliable enough, then hardware access becomes a liability. You can't encrypt a button access, so while you are using the interface it is vulnerable to secondary access, and accessing someone's unlocked phone with your hands is far easier than accessing someone's device through encrypted mental access.

It makes sense to have them today, because we have had them throughout OUR lifetimes. But context, man. This setting isn't about modern day humans, it's about what comes next.

Yeah, I mean, mesh radio distance isn't really that far for most small devices and in case of a hack there's conventional methods to dump intruders (actual day-to-day instances of TITANs and Wizard-class hackers should be low). But your space phone is in your back space pocket, which is fairly easy to reach and quickly futz around with if it had a physical interface.

I think this is specifically in regards to the Night Cartel. Several inner system settlements or polities tend to directly draw from Earth cultures or nations.

That said, post-national or post-ethnic culture in EP is nothing but stagnant - read about Scum Swarms sometime. Nor is this "eliminating" like you might think is bad for some in today's climate (omg don't appropriate that culture, cis white male!) - this is just a natural drift of focus, culture draws from locality and locality is no longer defined by the lines drawn on the map of Earth, and culture of the self cannot easily defined by a genetic background.

Do you think that someone, somewhere look at pre-fall Earth movie aliens and thought, "Yeah, I want to have a body like that." And made one?
I'm surprised there isn't some Klingon look-a-like, though since most Star Trek aliens are literal 'plastic shit on their faces' aliens, it shouldn't be too hard.

So I'm working on a game that, while not featuring the Fall, is going to be very immediately "about" the Fall, taking place in Luna and HEO theatres, with a lot of the major movers and shakers being involved in Fall scavenging and, of course, Earth reclamation.

I'm trying to come up with specific examples of things that happen during the Fall that can still have impact and being referred to ten years on, to make the end of the world seem more real to the players. For example, one plot point is an NPC oligarch who financed his next few millennia of existence by gouging ticket prices for the space elevators under his control during the end of the world. Anarchists have accused him of a kind of "economic genocide" by doing so - only the rich get to live and the poor (and especially uplifts) were left to die - and a bounty has been on his head and steadily growing as more evidence of what he did is coming out from orbital scavengers. Apocalypse profiteering is, of course, probably not going to have been uncommon during the period.

How does an enterprising sociopath turn an extinction event into a profit?

Selling stock in planet-based corps before they crash, buying up stock in off-world corps which skyrockets after the Fall to sell back for massive profit.

Bribing government officials or paying off mercenaries to smuggle valuable artifacts (works of art, records and documentation, covert intel, corp secrets) off planet illegally and then selling them back.

Soultrading or forknapping important people during the apocalypse and then banking on the indenture market later to have valuable skills.

Literal genocide, killing off people with no protection during the crisis to just mass steal their shit.

Basically, any sort of shitty thing somebody could do for profit now - but is amplified and made possible by the theoretical forewarning that the Apocalypse is about to happen. If you want the conspiracy element, make Firewall or other organizations like that mad at them because they tried to enforce ownership of intel, science or relief organizations bases - like buying up an otherwise abandoned oil rig JASON or Lifeboat was using as a base of operations and trying to extort them for rent or something.

Selling real estate or resource rights on Earth (which was in a Resource War/Cold War phase pre-Fall) which now obviously can't be collected on.

Embezzle corporations or even small countries, transferring shitloads of cash or other monetary resources to Luna illegally then keeping it when the end of the world makes them go defunct, or leave them holding the no money bag when their records evaporate.

Patent or steal research into military or information security technology then wait until after the Fall to market it - even though it may have been MUCH more useful to open source during the conflict.

Buy items off refugees for pennies on the dollar, turn around and resell as "Earth Memorabilia" for huge profit to nostalgic hyperelites.

Extort refus on the other end, buy the rights to ships or habs they move into, and evict or extort them, possibly seizing their possessions or even their Egos for "misconducts" or "financial damages".

Permanently kill people in your way by stranding their egos and backups on Earth - take hold of their assets or inheritance or just the fact that they aren't there to profit.

There seem to be a few superficial similarities between the two IPs, and I think a campaign merging the two (with some setting tweaks) could be pretty neat.

If you want to hold a planet, which might be possible using exoplanets as nodes in the Gate Network you'd need to secure the gate and planet and hold it down - this is where longer term stuff like fabrication comes in. Find enough carbon around and you can build all kinds of structures and materials to use.

You could have worded it more clearly the first time. Unless its just a finger or toe, it's usually better to just use a vat. You know, there should be smaller vats available for limbs and maybe one for heads. Limb treatments should be common enough, especially implantations, and the same with face and hair treatments. There's no need to use all of the space for a few giant vats when you can have ten limb vats in the same room as a full vat. Then all they need is to find a chair.

How difficult is it actually to get ahold of "big iron" (hardware capable of hosting an ASI)? On the one hand, Transhuman makes it sound like they're regulated more heavily than antimatter warheads, but on the other hand, everybody and their fork seems to have a secret seed AI project going.

Let me set up the scenario
>You are walking through a generic space-habitat, minding your business, when out of the blue you hear the sound a horrendous scream. It searches the local news and after a few moments, moments in which the Fury has now broken fully out of the floor in some parody of childbirth, it shows that the spimes have recorded someone who looks just like your morph (the one you rented when you farcasted yourself here) calmly shooting each of the Fury's friends in the head with a large-bore firearm. The bullets appeared to hold some form of Dissembler Nano-hive and shows the rapid dissolution of each of their morphs, stacks (presunmably) included. In the time it takes for this information to pass through your Mesh Inserts the Fury is now running past full-speed, half-way to your location.

Scatter and hide. Swarmanoid microbots can operate individually, so I'll just instruct all of them to hide and meet in a randomly-chosen location. Given the number of hiding places in the average hab, there's no way she can kill enough of them to do more than inconvenience me. The rotor speed of a swarmanoid is almost as fast as the fury, so even if she tries an area attack, I can still spread out fast enough to avoid catastrophic damage.

Now that I'm done being an asshole, the original question clearly assumes that you're in a humanoid morph that could actually have shot her friends. I could add more dickery by being in a generic vacuum pod identical to dozens of others on the station (vacuum pod cookie-cutter looks having been mentioned in the MRG), but frankly fucking the chickcharnie sounds interesting. Even if it sucks, at least I can say that I tried it. What's the point in being transhuman if you don't try weird shit?
